On the first day of Paizomas, my GM gave to me…

As we close 2020, we give you exciting news of a new Pathfinder Playtest! Just after the new year we’ll release a playtest with two new classes for you to create, play, and share feedback on. The playtest will run from Jan 5-Feb 5. We wanted to share the news so you can plan some games in that window. For our organized play community, players will be able to try the playtest classes and earn credit for a Pathfinder Society character at the same time.

A general looks over a scale model of the battlefield, determining the best place to deploy her troops.

Be the first to play two new Pathfinder classes in just under 2 weeks!

Not sure how to find a game? Check out warhorn.net or our VTT partners (Roll20, Fantasy Grounds or Astral) for games. Need a pre-made adventure? Consider using a Pathfinder Society scenario (you can run them outside of Society rules), link together a few Pathfinder Bounties, or try Troubles in Otari!

We hope you all have a safe December, enjoy a cup of virtual cheer, and we’ll see you here on January 5th!

Also it would be great to see more elements from the get-go, not just the European 4(+1) of Fire/Air/Water/Earth(/Aether=Force?), but also Wood/Metal for the Asian 5, Cold/Lightning to round out the modern RPG element trio, and maybe Positive/Negative as a stand-in for "Light/Shadow" without stepping in Divine territory.

Plus making Force damage more readily available without timed resource costs would be my personal preferrence (though no hopes on this ever getting granted if past records of all D&D-esque games bar Eldeitch Blast have anything to say of).

Not sure if you're aware, but all of those options, including force, were options for the PF1 kinetecist. Most, again including force, were available from the release of the class. The rest within a couple months.

I imagine they'll all return in PF2.

Edit: As far as what I hope to see in a kineticist, basically this: Elemental Host.

That 3pp class basically hit it out of the park for me. It could use some more options, like Metal and Wood, but overall this is my favorite PF2 "kineticist" out there right now.

I know this is off topic but are there any previews available for this class anywhere? It sounds right up my alley in the concept but idk about buying it without a hint about its mechanics

It's a playtest. There's nothing to buy. You get to test out the classes for the easy price of 'giving feedback' and 'filling out questionnaires'.

You don't even need to do that, it's just rude not to.

The 3rd party class the other person linked. Not the two official classes being play tested in 5 days.

It's pleasant to have this to look forward to next week; I'm glad they announced it in advance.

Okay but how many letters long are the names of the playtest classes.

What are we, 4 days out now? Exactly one of the playtest classes has a name that is 8 letters long.

I don't think anyone has been guessing any classes with exactly 8 letters in it.

Arcanist has 8 letters :D

And unless I miscounted or missed one it might be the only PF1 class left that does (according to a 2 minute google search from someone who never played it outside the Kingmaker CRPG)

It would be pretty bold to release the Arcanist, as a full class, after releasing the secrets of magic book instead of in it. So I think we might be getting a hint about a brand new class.

Agreed, although I think Arcanist would be pretty fun too.

So let's all spend the next 4 days guessing 8 letter words for classes until every single guess is proven wrong in 4 days!

I would be so happy if Mark gets to make the Harrowed medium a thing again.

I made an entire thread for my 8 letter word guess.

Edit: Also, if you'd like a moment of terror:

Actually "Moment of Terror" sounds like a commoner class feature, now that I think about it.

Runemage, Ragemage, Gunwitch, Gunsmith, Mechanic, Vanguard, Solarian, Timelord, Revenant, Bonelord, Merchant, and Firelord also have 8 letters each.

In my mind that sort of cements a new class coming to 2e! Really doubt arcanist is one of the classes. Echoing the mechanic or inventor guess.

Wanderer?

Perhaps our "Drifter" might be a "Wanderer"?

EDIT: Ha! Seems I wasn't the only one.

It would be a more polite name, Drifter can be taken derogatory.

Great minds think alike!

Guys, I think we're getting Sorcerer!

I feel like Wanderer comes dangerously close conceptually to stepping on the Ranger's toes.

On the other hand, Ranger without all the gratuitous nature baggage is something I wish existed.

I can't wait to try the new class, "8 letters long".

Tell us one letter that does not appear in the name of either new class

A jury summons.

In seriousness, the only PF1 class that fits the name that we don't have in some form is the Arcanist, so it's that, something new, or something renamed.

Not a fan of “Wanderer” as an alternative to Drifter, but Stranger evokes the correct tropes for me.

If we get a Stranger class, I just hope we can make it strange.
