Starfinder Battles Announced for 2020!

Wednesday, April 24, 2019

Starfinder fans,

Today we sent out this press release in partnership with WizKids. We're so excited about the opportunities this brings and while we don't have details now, like information on subscriptions, or which characters (aliens?) will make it into the first set, we want to be sure you hear about this new development for Starfinder.

WizKids Announces Enhanced Licensing Partnership with Paizo

Pre-painted Iconic Heroes, Monsters, and Starships from the Starfinder Universe Coming Soon!

WizKids, the industry leader in high-quality pre-painted miniatures, today announced a new branch of their licensing partnership with Paizo, makers of the popular Pathfinder and Starfinder Roleplaying Games, with plans to bring the company's latest offering to life on the tabletop with a brand new line of Starfinder Pre-Painted Miniatures.

Starfinder Battles joins the wildly popular Pathfinder Battles line in offering an amazing collection of high-quality miniatures for fans of the game.

"We're very excited to explore the Starfinder universe with Paizo," said Justin Ziran, president of WizKids. "We're confident that our fans will love the new miniatures this line will have to offer."

The initial Starfinder offerings will include a Booster Set and Premium Set, and product will be available for sale worldwide. The first release is slated to hit shelves in 2020.

"Pathfinder Battles has been a stalwart of the Pathfinder RPG for years, and we're excited to see WizKids bringing that same expertise to the Starfinder universe," said Jim Butler, VP of Marketing and Licensing at Paizo. "With hundreds of aliens and scores of player-character races in the Starfinder RPG, the Starfinder Battles line is sure to expand your gaming tabletop for years to come."

We can't wait to share more details as they emerge!

What becomes of the Ninja Division Kickstarter for Starfinder miniatures?

Customer Service Representative

We understand this may raise some questions regarding the status of the Ninja Division Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures.

Information, discussion, and questions on the Ninja Division Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures can still be referenced in this thread. Please reference Sara Marie's post on April 24th on the topic.

Thank all the powers in the heavens! At least with Wizkids we know we will get what we paid for! Great quality miniatures at hopefully at a normal price point!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Will the whizkids products be all new sculpts and renderings or will they be able to manufacture the CGI renderings that Weve already seen produced?

This is a relief. Prepaints are fine, but if WizKids ever offers an unpainted Starfinder miniature line I might be in trouble. They sometimes take a bit of work to clean up and paint, but I'm addicted to Wizkids unpainted minis. As long as they aren't fragile expensive resin figures, I'm in.

Probably should have been done in the first place. As much as I'm excited, I'd really like to see some unpainted miniatures!

Looks at the pile of minis not yet painted in his collection

On the other hand, maybe for the better.

Yes!

Grand Lodge

Please. Please. Please. Let this lead to an unpainted line. I adore what Wizkids has done with their unpainted miniatures.

Quite frankly, I’ve been holding off getting into Starfinder until such a thing came to pass.

I'm very happy to hear of this development. Starfinder + Wiz Kids = Joy

Awesome, can't wait! Also, allow me to be the first to say: #IDemandPlatyparian minis.

The Platyparian Empire deserves a full AP storyline and their own full miniature season! All hail our quasi-reptilian overlords!

Dark Archive

Definitely glad to hear this. I've loved Wizkids line for Pathfinder and D&D, and always hoped they'd do a Starfinder pre-painted line. Still a little salty over ND, but I'm real excited for this news.

Hyped to see SF miniatures finally happen :D

I can’t wait to get Paizo’s flavor of Characters and NPC’s. I’m hoping case distribution will be patterned after the Pathfinder Battles model, and that we can also look forward to Gargantuan case incentives!

This news made my day.

Ellicoth case incentive?

An enormous pile of multicolored Skittermander commons?

Finally seeing something besides iconics at the table?

The possibilities are endless!

The one positive thing about Wizkids not having this deal from the beginning is that the miniatures subscription was not made into part of the Superscriber package required to gain Paizo advantage via Starfinder.

Of course, given the general shortage of science fantasy minis, I may consider subscribing to that line anyway.

The fact that it wasn't was not for lack of trying on Paizo's part.

This is fantastic news! I love the pre-painted stuff so far, for both Pathfinder and DnD.
Even though 2020 is a ways off, getting that subscription info will make it feel real.
:)

I *love* the starfinder art. It will be cosmically awesome to see it made into little 3d models.

Praise Cayden Cailean or George Lucas or whoever made this happen! Been hoping with fingers crossed that we'd see Wizkids take the mini-line.

Dark Archive

I wonder if we'll get DROW first in a Pathfinder Battles or Starfinder Battles set.

In 16 whole Pathfinder Battles sets - the entirety of First Edition, no single drow miniature was produced. ;-(

I would gladly use Starfinder Drow minis in Pathfinder games - the Drow soldier & Drow Matriarch art in the Alien Archive look fantastic!

Not a fan of pre-paints, but they can be repainted, of course. If it does lead to a unpainted line I hope it is better quality than their current unpainted minis. Lots of mold shifts and loss of detail... but they are inexpensive, so I suppose that's the trade off.

I've never dug into 'Battles' product lines before (such as D&D Battles or Pathfinder Battles), are these collectible? I really am not trying to be negative here, I am honestly glad to hear there are minis coming out, but collectible generally means random and/or not being able to find what you're looking for (or buying a bunch of what you don't need to get what you do need), and/or grossly over-priced models (for what you get).

They're not grossly overpriced when purchased by the case. With Paizo's subscription the cost per Pathfinder Battles mini when purchasing a case is about $3 each. Compared to buying them individually, where they could be as much as $30 or more each (especially for huge case incentives), this is a great deal. Of course, the Starfinder Battles cases could be priced differently, but I wouldn't imagine it would be too different.

*Cautious Optimism Indicated*

Sweet. I've been blowing a lot of money on fantasy minis from the prepaint stuff. Would be great to get some sci-fi for my minis tool chest.

Currently mix and matching the cardboard minis for the Dead Suns set with fantasy minis and the Starfinder Iconic heroes for my Starfinder stuff. Also: some Star Trek ships for space battles (got the Val Jean for cheap at a convention, also have been using Troll and Toad to pick up an Akira class and some others)

Would be great to have these, but lost $400 on the Kickstarter (thanks Mona) minis, so no Starfinder Battles for me.

Was there any further details about this announced at Gencon?

Acquisitives

I was in the 2019 & Beyond panel, and this didn't come up. They discussed the deal to get the unpainted minis out, but I don't recall a status update on this.

So, Paizo, any further details on this...2020, scarily, is not that far away.

Still no news? Two and a half months til 2020!

We expect WizKids to formally announce the first couple of products fairly soon, but I don't yet know exactly when.

But I can say confidently that "the first release is slated to hit shelves in 2020" does NOT mean "on January 1, 2020."

Right, okay, this game needs minis real bad and I am sick of picking through the Ravinca Models to find the most Science-Fantasy prepaints I can find that aren't Star Wars. When are we getting something game worthy?

Yup, I am happy that Reaper has some to use as well.

Oh god, yeah. The fact that Reaper has four-armed models that AREN'T Genestealers at Games Workshop prices is a LIFE SAVER!

It's up to WizKids to reveal when products are coming; all I can really say is that things are moving along!

Thanks at least for this tidbit.

Bum diddly bump bump!

Now that we finally got an announcement for the next Pathfinder Battles set, I’m anxiously awaiting some news on the first Starfinder Battles set.

Hey WizKids, this would be where I would put news about minis...IF I HAD SOME!

Neat!

i mostly use legos currently but some actual models would be nifty for sure.

Dataphiles

Not sure WizKids is aware of this forum as I have not seen any posts from them.

It's an announcement blog, not the main showcase forum, they'll probably have another blog released as more info comes out.

Yes, correct, I was being facetious.

FWIW - I contacted Wizkids today to ask if they had any updated info about the Starfinder prepainted mini's and release dates. Their response to me was:

"Thank you for contacting us about this. Please keep your eyes open for an announcement about this soon.

Thank you,

The WK Team"

So, I think that is encouraging news...maybe?

Dark Archive
