A legion of elves and tieflings descends upon Mistledale, intent on dealing with whatever problem is at hand LOL

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32, 2011 Top 4

What, 20 4th level PCs equals CR 19 encounters, right? He can just have our first 'getting to know you' encounter be vs. a shoggoth or a grendel, I'm sure it will all work out in the end.

I had been hoping to get a character together to apply with, but the hour is late and I do not think I will be completing in time. I got stuck with too many initial ideas and never settled on one, so ended up with several half developed characters.

Good luck to all!

A little over 3 hours to go.

Are gnomes miniaturized elves, or are elves embiggened gnomes?

Either way, I keep picturing Rissa being cute as a button.

Mia stops and looks around to see someone shorter than even she is. She takes a knee, making herself the same height as Rissa.

"Um, H-Hello. I guess that means you aren't a child."

"I get it. With the armor you can't tell. Har. Har. There are normal, real humans here, too."

Elves and Tieflings? I'm just a halfling!

Surprised there hasn’t been a genasi. Good luck to all!

RECRUITMENT IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED

Thank you for so many great applications! I had a blast this weekend gaming with some old friends that had not all been together since before COVID, and am now even more excited to launch this game!

There are a lot of tough decisions to make ahead. I have messaged some of you with questions, and will be sending out several more today. If you don't receive a question, don't worry, it simply means everything on your character makes sense to me.

I look forward to hearing all your responses, then assembling the final party.

See, this is why I like Golarion better. It forestalls questions like this with distinct answers: elves and gnomes are entirely unrelated. Gnomes are descended from Fey, and elves are space aliens, duh. =p

Let the anticipation begin!

Good luck everyone!

But aren't all elves secretly drow as well?

No no, it's actually funnier than that.

So when the Aboleths dropped a meteor on the planet out of spite, the elves had advance warning, and most of them f~*#ed off BACK to their home planet to weather the cataclysm.

Some big brain free thinkers decided that getting off the planet was for chumps, and figured they'd be just fine going underground.

Apparently radiation mutated them into Drow? With the help of the evil god sealed inside the planet, of course.

Oh, yeah. Thanks for the reminder. I was just talking about the [The rest of this post has been redacted by the elven high council to prevent the spread of misinformation. Have a pleasant day.]

Best of luck to everyone! Excitement builds :D

And then there's the fact that any elf can just spontaneously *POOF* into a drow by thinking naughty thoughts.

Please disregard DankeSean's last post. We have determined that his account has been hacked by drow malcontents intent on spreading misinformation. All elves are pure and good with nary a naughty thought in our head, unlike those dark-dwelling deviants.

In an unrelated note, we have also sent Care and Mental Health agents to DankeSean's last known location to ensure that he is healthy and happy. Please ignore any pleas for help from his accounts as they have been compromised by drow hackers.

On a side note, I cannot believe that no one, and I mean no one had taken that alias before I did just a few minutes ago.

Just realized, wording it this way opens up a whole new avenue of hilarity. Imagine you're in elf high school, two of your classmates share a look, and *POOF* suddenly they're drow.

Strictly speaking, no elf would make it out of childhood (and certainly not adolescence) without *POOF*ing. Drow should be the predominant subspecies of elves on the planet.

Agreed.

I do wonder if the same applies to dwarves? Do they *POOF* into duergar? Would gnomes turn into goblins? Do orcs become humans? Inquiring minds would like to know.

I believe dwarves *grunt* into duergar, technically.

This is always the worst part.

Smurfing frustrating!

No! We do not turn in to Smurfs! Oh NO!!!!

It's like everything evolving into crabs. Everything *POOFS* into smurfs!

All I have to say on the subject is smurfity smurfity smurf this type of discussion it just smurfing causes me to doubt my goblin friend saying he's really just a gnome with attitude

@Temerith Faurian: I just realized that we've played together before. How's Rissi doing these days?

/plays the Jeopardy theme song...(hopefully!)

Sharpens her sword, gets herself ready to travel to help her neighbors in Mistledale :-)

Hides in the shadows and waits to see who shows up. ;)
Hopefully we'll hear something tomorrow.

Good morning one and all,
Thank you all for your continued patience. I appreciate all the responses I have received to the PMs I've sent out. I apologize for the continued delay, I sent out several of the PMs while I was still in the mountains in Maine, and apparently with our spotty internet two of them didn't go through. They have been now been resent, and I'm waiting responses from those players. As soon as I hear back, I will be posting the final roster.

I want to thank you all again for so many amazing characters. It's been a very difficult decision making process. In a perfect world I'd try to run a couple games, but I think it's best for now to focus on one. If things go smoothly for a few months, maybe I'll consider adding a second down the road.

Having been in the Appalachian region in Maine this summer I can attest to the spotty Internet.

Ah yes, the joys of rural living. I live in the country myself, so I get it.

Just out of curiosity, how did everyone here get started in tabletop RPGs? What systems have y'all played?

I got started spring of 2011 in Pathfinder 1e. I've played most PF1e and D&D5e, but I've also played GURPS, Savage Worlds, Rifts (once), Dungeon World, a Forged in the Dark system that I forget the name of, Conan 2d20, and I think that's it.

1990 with D&D Basic Red Box.

Have played all editions of D&D (TONS of 2e, and almost no 5e), Pathfinder 1st and 2ed, MERP, Rolemaster, GURPS, World of Darkness, Runequest, Call of Cthulhu, Shadowrun, and I am sure there gotta be a few more ;)

Heh. I started in the summer of '79, playing a character built using the new Advanced PHB and working through a Monty Haul dungeon created using the red box.

Looking at my shelves, I don't want to count what I still have copies of today! A quick glance at the mechanical systems as I sit here and type shows 5 different versions of D&D, 2 of Pathfinder, 4 of Shadowrun, 2 of Paranoia, 2 of Legends of the Five Rings, 2 of Mechwarrior, the Arcanis system, Gamma World, Marvel Super Heroes, Star Wars, Star Trek, Space 1889, GURPS, Top Secret SI, Twilight 2000, Traveler 2300, Ghostbusters, Earthdawn, Starfinder, Cyberpunk, Dark Conspiracy, Forge, and I think there's another couple of small systems I can't easily see from the keyboard.

Then we can talk different settings: Greyhawk, Fauern, Kalamar, Eberron, Spelljammer, Arcanis, Golarion, Seattle, Denver, Germany, London, Aztlan, etc.

I have played more than I purchased, and I've purchased more than I still have.

Well, you asked.

That is an impressive list.

And I'm nosy, that's why I asked. ;D

D&D, 1977. Some guy brought the pamphlets to Astronomy camp.

Over 16 linear feet of bookshelves for the TTRPG material. Over 40' for the fiction works in my library, too.

I'm old. I like the feel of the book in my hand. <shrug>

Edit: Wait. Why am I watching this thread, again? Oh, yeah! Game recruitment!

Looks eagerly into the void . . ..

That is a lot of bookshelf. I'm actually a little jealous. I wish I had that much shelf space and the books to put on them.

(No shame in liking the physically books. Having the physical book is a different experience from reading it digitally.)

It's complicated. I bought the Red Box in 1987 and in 7th grade asked the local gaming group at my school if I could play with them, but they said no, with the reason given being, and I quote, "Because you're a girl." Nonetheless I bought AD&D 2nd Ed later and made up my own game worlds and characters using the rules, but initially I never had anyone to play with. (I did play the Gold Box video games which is how I first became familiar with the Forgotten Realms.)

In high school I got invited to play AD&D and the GM ran me through an introductory solo adventure, but then he cancelled the campaign with the group of us because his mom told him he couldn't play because she heard D&D was satanic. (No really.)

When I got to college it was the early 1990s, so the game system du jour was World of Darkness. I joined the gaming club and the first honest to god RPG I ever played a full campaign of was Wraith: the Oblivion. Which is a heck of a way to get started fully playing RPGs! But it was a good campaign.

From there on, I've played most of the oWoD games in various editions, Exalted 1st ed (which I got to be a playtester on), I did actually get to play some AD&D2e, D&D 3.0/3.5, Star Wars d20, Star Wars that really old one with the D6s, Star Wars Fantasy Flight, Big Eyes Small Mouth, Legend of the 5 Rings, GURPs, Champions, Savage Worlds, Spirit of the Century/FATE, Dungeon World, the Doctor Who RPG, Mutants & Masterminds (2nd and 3rd ed), and of course Pathfinder 1e. We playtested 2e a little but I haven't played much of it. Probably some homebrews and one shots of other things in there as well that I've forgotten.

Silver Crusade

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I was in the 6th grade and had a crush on a girl who was too old for me, but she was very nice to the weird kid and taught me the rules for D&D 3.5 and explained Forgotten Realms lore to me. Been playing since.

I've played DnD 3.0 and onward, both Pathfinders of course, plus (to a much lesser degree) Blades in the Dark, Lancer, MotW, Only War, Symbaroum, Expanse RPG/AGE, and Starfinder. I've definitely had a strong urge to play something different mechanically & thematically from my usual PF high-fantasy fare

The original Deadlands did a MARVELOUS job of making the mechanics fit the setting.

Kind of a horror/apocalypse/fantasy game set in the weird, weird West.

The random factor came from using a normal deck of plying cards, and you could hold cards and pick and choose which you used when, and you had to get certain combinations for some spellcasting. Yes, the white man spellcasters were all gamblers. Seriously.

VERY different mechanically, and the difference did a glorious job of helping pull you into the setting.

I understand they're working a different ruleset these days. I don't know if they abandoned the cards or not. I hope not.

I'm a big fan of the mechanics Paradigm Concepts, Inc came up with for their Fantasy setting. I think they use a minor variant for their zombie super-hero game, Rotted Capes.
