Found the post where you talked about her background, but it didn't seem like it was a definite thing. I also didn't see it in your profile, that's why I hadn't move it.

Warning: I like to write, and I've been working on my skills in character development, so kinda went overboard here. Feel free to ignore it.
As for appearance, well the avatar shows us the face, but doesn't really tell us anything else. Is her armor decorated with filigree or plain and utilitarian? What does she wear when she's not out righting the wrongs of the world and slaying the wicked? Is there anything she wears to remind her of someone or something from her past? Are there any scars that she tires to hide or displays with pride? Is she tall? Short? What's her build? Would people consider her pretty or homely? What are her vestments like? Does she wear symbols of her faith on her person?

It's not just about how a character looks but also a chance to establish some of their personality. If clothes make the man, then what does your characters clothes say about them? Something as simple as how a character choose to wear their hair can say a lot. It is unkempt? Is it done up, but in a sloppy way? Is it styled for utility? Do they wear braids? Is it ornamented?

Taking a look at Tessai, here's what I'm seeing.

Background: Tessai grew up in the Underdark, the pet and prized trophy of a slaver. She was a fighter, and often beaten for her troubles. She got loose and escaped, possibly with the help of some adventurers. She was taken in by a temple and found some solace in faith. She dedicated her life to eradicating evil in this world.

Personality: Tessai is unyielding and unforgiving. She's a vengeful sort, seeking to enact judgement above all else. She sees herself as a bulwark between the innocent and the many evils of the world.

As far as relations, she doesn't have any connections to the ones that saved her or introduced her to her faith? If she doesn't see them as important enough to mention or remember is one thing, but I'm betting the GM is looking for hooks to hang adventures and stories on.

Just looking at what you posted, your could write about the clergy at the temple she trained at, the adventurers who may have saved her, and the slaver. Just given those three groups of people, there's a lot we can ask about here. Was one of the adventurers that maybe saved her a member of the temple Tessai wound up at? Did the slaver survive Tessai's rescue/escape? Does he hold a grudge if he did? Was there anyone at the temple worried about Tessai? Does or did Tessai have any feelings for any of the people she interreacted with?

There's a clear concept here, but not much else. Based on what you posted here, she feels flat, like a one trick pony. Characters can and do develop over the course of role-play, but it does help if you have something more to build off of than former-slave, avenging-angel paladin.

To each his/her own. I could indeed write much more (and have done so over the many years and many characters in these boards), but I chose not to ;)

I feel the bare bones of what I have written down are enough to get a good perception of who the character is, and how she will most likely be played. I think there are enough loose ends in those lines for several adventure hooks as needed. I am sure TheLastGhost will have his own opinion, and make a decision based on that, or ask for more if he finds it necessary.

First, allow me to offer my apologies. It wasn't my intent to single you out. It was a combination of a desire to help and getting carried away while explaining why I hadn't moved you to the completed list. It's definitely not my intention to belittle or antagonize you.

Second, as far as the one-trick pony comment is concerned, that is my read of it, nothing more. All I could really tell about your character with any certainty is that she's a former slave, she found her calling thanks to a temple, and she's an avenging angel sort of paladin. I could have been more clear that her feeling flat was my opinion, and mine alone. I'm not trying to say that you have to write more, or add anything, or even read what I wrote (though you obviously did.) I was trying to offer some help, unsolicited it may be. That's why I put that warning up at the top.

You're right, to each his/her own and I am okay with you saying you aren't going to do any of that or if you had said you weren't going to read any of that. And again, your right about the GM having his own opinions and criteria. It's one of the reasons I didn't put my opinions as a GM there and kept things more from the perspective of a writer. Seeing your reaction, however, I know I shouldn't have put my nose in. Again, I'm sorry.

Third, Honestly I would do this with other characters if I had the time and no one minded. SmooshieBanana has been helping me out with getting Mia fleshed out and getting into her head. Tessai just happened to spark the part of me that is a writer and I wanted to get to know more about her. I'm nosy, and as much as the questions were posed to make a point and get you thinking, they were also me wondering about those things.

I hope that this lapse in judgement on my part doesn't sour your desire to play or your opinion of me. I really did mean no harm, and I'm sorry that I apparently did some anyway.

Hey, I would love to have you do that with my character!

I mean, I usually like to only give some rough fleshing out and then let the imagination flow during game, but it's invaluable to have a third one's eyes at your service. Sometimes it's a matter of opinions, but sometimes I skip things. Sometimes I forget the reader can't read my mind.

In any case, please, your opinion would be extremely helpful (even if I choose to discard it).

KingHotTrash I will be candid in saying I have no experience with the Combat Stamina optional rule. After a quick perusal, I think it might be a nice boost for the fighter. As such, I will tentatively say fighters gain it as a bonus feats at 1st. Please keep in mind if it becomes unbalanced, I will adjust as necessary.

Writing Samples if anyone wants to either link to an existing gameplay writing sample or include some in character writing, you are more than welcome to, but it is not required.

I am really impressed with the broad range of characters being proposed. Hope to see a few more in the coming days, but it's definitely going to be a challenge to whittle it down to just one group of 6.

Wonder if a tressym familiar would be an option? Intelligent winged cats are one of my favorite things about the Realms.

Behold, the tressym! They are made of 100% pure concentrated adorableness. And yes, if I get in and if the GM lets me have a tressym, I will make sure he lets Mia pet him.

Mia snuggles with the tressym only to look up and see the rest of the party watching. Her face turns beet-red. She still breaths and her heart still beats, but it's clear to all who see that Mia is already dead. The cause? Terminal embarrassment.

I appreciate the reply. I'm thinking of a half-orc fighter who is a bit of a bounty hunter. Child of two other half-orcs, martially trained, follower of Tempus and The Red Knight. Lawful Neutral but tends towards good more than evil. Real tough SOB.

@DeathQuaker: I've posted the link to the HeroForge mini for the moment. I'm not sure how to get a good portrait from it, but when I do, I'll update the link.

I'm considering a "simple" Human Fighter. (I believe the class is grossly underestimated in capabilities more often than not. Their strength isn't about being a wall, or race-to-zero, or battlefield control, but in versatility.)

I have an EitR rules question that pertains to, well, everybody, really.

Weapon Proficiencies. EitR changes the WP Feats pretty drastically, and it contradicts pretty much every class write-up without providing adaptation rules.

In EitR, the feat Weapon Proficiency gains you proficiency with all weapons in a single Fighter Weapons Group. There are no other options. The Simple and Martial Weapon Proficiency feats are gone.

So, for my initial thoughts, to be proficient in one-handed Bastard Sword, Katana, or Dueling Sword (all in the Heavy Blades Group, but that's simply convenient, not the point), do I get to assume proficiency, or do I need to add Weapon Proficiency (Heavy Blades) to cover them?

Related question that's not part of my character thoughts right now at all, but seems relevant. What about weapons added in some of the last First Ed books, that were never formally assigned to any Weapon Groups? (Like the Elven Leaf and Thorn Blades. I mean, I know what makes sense to me [those two specific examples should be in Light Blades], but it isn't my game . . ..)

BTW, Risky Strike effectively replaces ALL of the reduced attack for bonus damage feats, even the ones not mentioned in the EitR rules.

How? Risky strike explicitly applies to both melee and ranged combat. It explicitly directs applying the bonus 50% for 2-handed use. It provides no additional limits.

Re: weapon proficiencies:

Just ask yourself a simple question.

Does your class grant you access to the weapon?

If yes, congratulations!

If no, you then need a feat that does.

So, for example,I pick wizard. Does wizard grant proficiency in katana?

Since the answer is 'no', then I pick Weapon Proficiency (Heavy Blades) and, as an extra, I get proficiency in some other weapons as well.

A fighter, for example, gets proficiency in all martial weapons. Since the Dueling Sword is an Exotic Weapon, our fighter also needs to pick the feat and also gets extra bonus proficiencies with other weapons.

Seems quite clear to me.

Except for the whole bit about the feats being used to grant that access to Fighters don't exist.

EitR doesn't get rid of exotic weapon prof. feats. Those are the ones you need for the bastard sword and dueling sword.

Got a lot of work to do to put this together, but how about a Halfling Tiefling, Inspired Blade Swashbuckler? Mother was a beautiful halfing bard that was raped by a demon while her party was decimated exploring an "abandoned" wizard's tower. The demon left my mother alive knowing that she would be tortured by the decision of whether she should kill herself before my birth or kill me when I was born. Fortunately she did neither and I was raised to be a force for good. My demonic heritage is barely visible.

Hmm, in that case, why didn't they remove it in the HeroLab files? I'm not saying that it wasn't deleted, just seems like a pretty big oversight.

I dunno how I would adjudicate this, and I'm just as glad it ain't my problem. :P

Eh since everyone's talking about character appearance I did up Sophronia in Heroforge and added the link in my Appearance section of my character sheet.

Hit Points: 10 + 3d5 + 15 + 8 ⇒ 10 + (3, 2, 2) + 15 + 8 = 40 Hmm.... 2 points below average, but OK.

Ater the above discussion and sleeping on it, I have come to these conclusions:

1) The EitR guys just assumed the class proficiency lists remain explicit, regardless of how the proficiencies are identified

2) Thus, gaining desired exotic weapon proficiencies require taking proficiency in the appropriate Fighter Weapon Group

3) This complicates gaining SOME proficiencies, as some weapons were explicitly left out of weapon groups and others were created late enough they were just never explicitly added to one

And I don't expect 3 to be an issue for my character, so we would have to watch and see if it comes up as a problem for anyone else.

And, of course, TheLastGhost gets to tell us his campaign binding conclusions instead.

I would expect, with GM permission, you could just take proficiency in the specific weapon you want to be proficient with, which would work just like the old Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat, which isn't banned, per se, it was just removed because at the time the EITR option was meant to offer more, rather than less, than what it allowed you to get.

And I don't expect 3 to be an issue for my character, so we would have to watch and see if it comes up as a problem for anyone else.

Given I think most weapons you would find and use in Faerun in general and in the Dales specifically are in one fighter weapon group or another, and the GM is prioritizing flavor, it's unlikely, and/or the GM may supply homebrewed groups as needed.

I have a lot of typing to do before I can provide a full submission (including detailing the background in my head and fleshing out his description and relations).

Grigor Trotsk, ethnic Damaran (human) from Cormyr. Fighter (Two-Weapon Warrior) with a significant investment in the human racial feats thanks to those campaign bonus feats TheLastGhost is choosing to provide.

For primary equipment, I figure he will start with a heavy blade/light weapon dual-wield combo but move into a heavy blade/heavy blade dual-wield combo once he can take Advanced Weapon Training at level 5 . . .. He'll probably wear medium armor, especially if I pump his dexterity instead of strength, as is the current development plan.

And, yes, I know a build that wants to not move is sub-optimal.

No, I meant the ones in the original creation spoiler.

they exist above and beyond all the feats provided through core character creation/advancement.

Since bonus feats is a term used frequently within class descriptions, I chose to call them something else. Campaign feats just seemed obvious to me, as they are part of the campaign rules.

A human fighter with those additional campaign feats has 9 selected feats at 4th level, and gains 3 more every 2 levels. Allows for some amazingly heroic builds. What I am creating is far from as optimized as things could easily go, while still maintaining a pretty specific focus on two-weapon fighting.

Okay, I'm going to throw my hat into the ring, number of applicants notwithstanding. Rissa here will be a rock gnome wizard, diviner school and scryer subschool, with the scroll scholar archetype. Hope that's okay.

@TheLastGhost:What do you mean by "Defensive Training, Lesser" vs. "Defensive Training, Greater" in your ancestries document? Not that it matters for a wizard, but I would like to make sure I have all the numbers correct in my sheet.

Also, I would like the alternate racial trait Charming Diviner. Am I correct in assuming that's 2 RP? And Fey Thoughts is 1 RP? (Why did they pair charm animal with +1 CL divination spells? That's pretty random. Also, can I use Int rather than Cha? If not, no big deal, I don't see myself using it much anyway.)
