FEATS:
Future Feats: Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Martial Dominance --------------------------------------------------------------
Blended View (2 rp): Most elves that represent having darkvision are of a drow heritage. In her case, this is a family trait tied to their ancient deal with a devil for power. It is hereditary much as a sorcerous bloodline would be. Instead of having ties to hell, it is more accurately the ties between the weave that grant it. Those rare elves of her household with this racial trait gain darkvision with a range of 60 feet as well as low-light vision. Elven Immunities (2 rp): Elves are immune to magic sleep effects and gain a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells and effects. Elven Magic (3 rp): Elves receive a +2 racial bonus on caster level checks made to overcome spell resistance. In addition, elves receive a +2 racial bonus on Spellcraft skill checks made to identify the properties of magic items. Fey Thoughts (1 rp): Select two skills: Diplomacy, Use Magic Device. The selected skills are always class skills for the character. Keen Senses (Perception) (2 rp): Elves receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception checks. Low-light Vision (1 rp): Elves can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light. Weapon Familiarity (2 rp): Elves are proficient with longbows (including composite longbows), longswords, rapiers, and shortbows (including composite shortbows), and treat any weapon with the word “elven” in its name as a martial weapon. --------------------------------------------------------------
Demoralizing Presence: You gain a +2 trait bonus on Intimidate checks made to demoralize opponents. Harvester: You gain a +1 trait bonus on Profession (trapper) checks, and you may make these checks as if you were trained in the skill even if you have no ranks. Additionally, you do not risk poisoning yourself whenever you handle or apply poison taken from a venomous creature. Paranoid (Drawback): Anyone who attempts an aid another action of any type to assist you must succeed at a DC 15 check instead of the normal DC 10 check. Sound of Mind: You gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against mind-affecting effects. Strip the Veils: You gain a +1 trait bonus on opposed Perception and Sense Motive checks. One of these skills is always a class skill for you. --------------------------------------------------------------
Favored Class Bonus: Add a +½ circumstance bonus on critical hit confirmation rolls with light weapons (+2). Proficiencies: A ranger is proficient with all simple and martial weapons and with light armor, medium armor, and shields (except tower shields). ==RANGER== Track (Ex): A ranger adds half her level (minimum 1) to Survival skill checks made to follow tracks. Wild Empathy (Ex): A ranger can improve the initial attitude of an animal. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check to improve the attitude of a person (see Using Skills). The ranger rolls 1d20 and adds her ranger level and her Charisma bonus to determine the wild empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly.
Endurance: A ranger gains Endurance as a bonus feat at 3rd level. Favored Terrain (Ex): At 3rd level, a ranger may select a type of terrain. The ranger gains a +2 bonus on initiative checks and Knowledge (geography), Perception, Stealth, and Survival skill checks when she is in this terrain. A ranger traveling through her favored terrain normally leaves no trail and cannot be tracked (though she may leave a trail if she so chooses).
FREEBOOTER
Freebooter’s Bond (Ex): At 4th level, a freebooter forms a bond with her teammates. This bond allows her to spend a move action to grant her allies extra combat prowess when they work as a team. All allies within 30 feet who can see or hear the freebooter gain an additional +2 bonus on attack rolls when flanking with the freebooter or with another ally affected by this ability.
WARDEN
Live in Comfort (Ex): At 2nd level, a warden is truly at home within her favored terrains. She knows all the signs of the wilderness. She rarely gets lost. She can easily live off the land in comfort, and can provide for companions. The warden can take 10 on any Survival check involving any of her favored terrains, even when in immediate danger and distracted. If the warden is not in immediate danger and distracted, she can take 20 even if the check has a penalty for failure.
Terrain Bond (Ex): At 4th level, a warden forms a bond with the land itself, enabling her to direct others in such terrain. When in her favored terrain, the warden grants all allies within line of sight and that can hear her a +2 bonus on initiative checks and Perception, Stealth, and Survival skill checks. Also, as long as they travel with her, the warden’s allies leave no trail and can’t be tracked. The warden can choose for the group to leave a trail, or even for specific members of the group to leave a trail if she so desires.
Inherent Nature Magic (Sp): At 4th level, Lilianne gains the ability to discover and handle magic to some degree. At 4th level she gains a divine pool of magic from which she can produce specialty spells from. Casting them from the pool costs one divine point. She gains a number of pool points equal to 3+Wis Mod.

Letter Page 1 (Background):
To the esteemed High Councilor Haresk Malorn, may such an attentive servant of the people, as you seem to be, continue for many ages in your position with blessings:
Be advised sir, that I am not an adventurer. I am a noble. However, I am of such a disposition that when I hear the pleas of those beset on all sides, I cannot remain idle. For too many centuries have I seen war rise up and watched elves and men sit by and neglect to spearhead troubles. You, I think, understand what looms before you. Set in stone are troubles, be they monsters or ruffians, and you seek to be rid of them. Perhaps they are even entrenched and intertwined in the very nature they exist in. For that, you need a ranger. Despite being born a noble, I am of the trained skills of a Ranger of the High Forest to the northwest. It was my great father's intent that I spend my youth there as a border guard, and worked after my time of required service in this field, to be a guide for those entering and exiting the Wood. In later years, I traveled to Waterdeep. It was there I worked as a representative to my family's House and secured holdings they had acquired there in the city. It was no easy task in that age and of constant physical and political challenges. From there I spent many years around the coast between Baldur's Gate, Waterdeep, and beyond to the west. It was therein that I engaged in several overseas military campaigns against piracy in the service of those two cities. Through these primary examples, I have learned the ways of fighting well. I have advanced these forms since I have been on my most recent quest. As you may know, the road is not kind to travelers who are on their own. This hardship has grown me in skill far beyond what I possessed in my youth and I believe I can be of some small bit of help at the very least. Perhaps in return, in consideration, you can aid me in my quest? I am a representative of my House, House Vyshaan, and they seek to expand into the forested regions of the Dalelands. I currently seek land to acquire through eventual purchase and have the discretion to propose where that land should be. Such matters are best discussed in person, and perhaps after you come to know me and the deeds of my House, such ownership and aid will be more palatable to you. Regardless, I will be open to help you, whatever your decision may be. Not to boast too highly of myself, as to my particular skill aside from fighting, I also can sort through the nonsense of natural traps and spy the foolishness of those who seek to hide from me. By my brothers' testimonies, "I can track an eagle on a cloudy day." I may not agree with that sentiment, but I am well-versed in the ways of nature. Not only in the forested regions of your home, but on the water, sea, or be it in a city. Further, if you are sending out a group, I can do great things to ensure their survivability, as nature itself can be a challenge in these months. As for my exploits, I have an attached list of scribe-copied testimonies to the end of this letter, to which I would request you add your own recommendation should this job be completed in a manner pleasing to you. Feel free to write to any or all of these long-lived servants still in knowledge of my deeds. Each has left their name and place where they may be found. --Continued Page 2 *What she doesn't explain in the letter are her magical understandings passed down from her people (this is her lore skill). It is difficult to express the whole of one's background in a few paragraphs when they have lived for centuries. Like a resume, she has presented herself in the best light for the potential job before her, but there is much more to her than what is listed in her letter. Letter Page 2 (Appearance):
To my other qualities, and so that you may recognize me and not mistake me for any other, as stated, I am born of the rare noble House of Vyshaan. This may not be a house known to you, as it lies far to the northwest, and was said to have been mostly destroyed many centuries ago. That, however, is not the case. While our forged nation has been corrupted and taken, we still exist as a noble and ancient House. We grow in circumstance and standing each year. Our holdings are old and expansive in all elven nations and beyond. Our roots are deep and long-reaching in encouraging trade in regions. Of this house, I bear the marks and symbols befitting one of them.
As for looks, I am a female sun elf with hair black like midnight. My skin is a light coppery brown of less shine than some of my sisters. I possess almond-shaped eyes with irides darker than my hair; yet in the sun, I have been told my eyes shine brown with golden flecks. My age may seem youthful to you, but I am not. I am in good shape and a fine fit for any physical task, be it in nature or urban challenge. To be true, I am not given to smoking or excessive drunkenness, however, I do prefer a good elven wine now and then, and spiced wine in the winter months. In 1352, I was held as a slave by an orc chieftain named Odobuldan Twinscar; a ruler of orcs in your region. I believe he has passed on since those days. Perhaps you've heard of him? I was held captive there in his control for many days until I was hastily rescued by the Riders of the Mistdales. The most notable remaining scar I bear from the experience, among others for recognition, is upon my left upper axillary region. I should be wearing the green and brown colors of my house with their insignia upon the upper right plate of my armor. You will forgive my rough appearance, I hope. Appearing before such an esteemed man of great position, I intend to meet with you directly before the coming day of your recruitment, as I do not wish to waste time and wish to surveil the area around your city before your teams set out. I recently come from the rough and battle-filled road, as well as from missions in the wild here located around your neighboring city of Zhentil Keep. I have been seeking to rout out a mysterious order here propping its head up in a cult-like fashion recently. However, these are my own aspirations and I will lay such personal endeavors aside, and without a moment's breath to my own care or worries of appearance, and will come directly. From your message, you sounded like someone in great plight. Therefore, I do not wish to tarry in aid of your quest to beautify myself to the proper level that such an introduction among those of our standing should require. So for my appearance, I will offer my advanced apologies. It is paired with this request, that you reserve a room for me at your local inn of decent standing, or a home that will house me for a short time until your scheduled recruitment. You may expect me to be in the region of your city on the 10th if the roads are kind. Graciously and sincerely, Lilianne Nightshade, Representative of House Vyshaan (Seal of her house) --Continued Page 3 Letter Page 3 (Relations/Testimony):
Below over the next page, back and front, is a script of brief markers of deeds done. While this document is a magical copy done by a scribe and marked as authentic by them, it is clear enough she has been around the land of Faerun. Most of these notations are attached with signed witness marks to a myriad of events from simple missions to complicated and harrowing deeds. Some go into a very brief detail of tasks done, some are glowing paragraphs of recommendations and some are simply easily recognizable seals after words describing the tasks done. One can only wonder why she feels the need to travel with such a document but it can be guessed that it is because she is unaffiliated with an adventuring guild like so many others of lower standing in terms of nobility. In all truth, it is below her to do adventuring work as a noble, so since she has desired to do so at times (clearly), perhaps she has found it difficult to have some leaders open up and believe her, thus hindering her help to those in need without such recommendations. The general unwritten language and pattern of deeds below seem to be painting a picture of a civil servant who may uphold the law in personality but does what is right more importantly.
Here are a few of the people who claim to know her: High Justicar Reginult Portar of Neverwinter witnessed the highly regarded acts of Lilianne Nightshade freeing the local captives of orcish warfare in the northern reaches of Neverwinter. It was there she battled wolves and hunger for many days to lay a trap for these orc enslavers who had been bent on pressing local townsfolk to build a new stronghold. She singlehandedly wiped them out and ensured the warmth and well-being of these people as she returned them back to their homes. Since then, she has been a good friend to me and I cannot recommend her enough. Supreme Lord of the Onsruur, Belarkh Rostigror, of Kholtar respects the acts of this she-elf, Lilianne Nightshade. Her deeds are a worthy investment in the health of any community seeking to thrive, as well as that of her House Vyshaan, who have increased trade in our region over 30%. She is astute as she is brutal with a blade, and good on the eyes as well if she will forgive me for writing so. She has been my friend for many years now and helped elevate me to my current position. Anyone who dealt with Enklaevur, my relation, who held the position before me, knew him as a slaver, and disreputable man. Captain Albatra Festus of the good ship Sunbeam, out of Baldur's Gate, recommends Lilianne as an able-bodied watch captain. In her time aboard my vessel, she worked over a series of long voyages over three years at the bell and kept immaculate time. She commands a stern ship as well as a shipshape crew under her watch as a junior petty officer. If it were not for her inclination for land, she would have easily made quartermaster. Among those of high rankings, there are also lower, more common folk: Here lies the mark of Celia Pennyfoot, gnome and tavern wench myself at the current occupation of the Lofty Door. This elf Lilianne Nightshade I say is of great kindness! She dun helped me in ways I can't speak of! Freed me from a bad situation with the owner Toff Oliver of the Winding Serpent Inn she did. He's one of those sorts who likes to think of us as property. He believed he still owned me and my body for his occupation despite me movin' on. Sent thugs after me too! This elf made sure Toff has never bothered me again. She is a sweet creature and one I love kindly to see when she's in the area! And some are marks of her noble house by various family members: Luniver Vyshaan, head of House Vyshaan hereby marks that Lilianne Nightshade is an esteemed member of our noble house and has been for many centuries. I had the honor and served with her mother Silvanna Vyshaan, my cousin, and her esteemed father Falendros Nightshade. I am known to Lilianne, as I am to her three brothers and two sisters. She is of noble birth, and to which this contested challenge may be witnessed by me as easily as any others who know her well in the House Vyshaan.
Hook notes for GM:
--I am unsure what your current goals are for this campaign, but if you wish, Lilianne is trained in modifying, repairing, and working with the ancient abberant magic her people forged. She has a unique connection to the weave that only those of her house (and people they train) have. If you so wish to include Mythal or Incarnum zones in your game (sort of like haunts or unique technological zones perhaps?) she can fix/work them and open up unique gameplay.
--Any sun elf she meets would likely see her as being very beautiful for one of their kind, almost exotic. Not to mention, that while many sun elves exist in natural cities or in the woods together, she embodies nature and lives it, survives in it, and thrives in it. This can be considered extremely attractive to elves. Coupled with her being noble and likely from a wealthy family, that adds a kind of extra appeal to those who seek a long-lasting mate. I am open to past romances, and a current or future romance for the character (keeping it minimal to the story and PG-13 of course). If you wish to (by means of NPCs and desire) put a sun elf in the game who can fulfill this role, I would not oppose it. If so, it wouldn't be the focus of my character anyways. It may, however, add to the story growth in that region from time to time. As long as they are good-natured to people in general, have some respectable heritage themselves, and they don't despise her, she may be inclined to them. --She has no issue taking from what nature provides. Having skill in harvesting some poisons, it'd be nice to see some venomous animals that she can take from and add poison safely to her weapons from time to time. --Being of House Vyshaan, perhaps wizards who rarely would have experienced Mythal zones or mechanisms would go to great lengths to get their hands on those who understand such magics and can control them without being a masterful manipulators of magic. They may seek to harm/kidnap such a person for those ends. This could be a potential problem for her in the future with what we face. --After helping uproot Enklaevur Rostigror from rulership, she's likely made enemies with slavers. She also killed orcs who bought and took slaves from traders in the north of Neverwinter. These slave trade lines may have been connected and may have put a bounty on her head. --Toff Oliver may send bandits from time to time to visit trouble on her if she becomes renowned in an area (as he doesn't often know where she is). |
