About Krovek Vorenus

Background:
Krovek is the bastard child of Lucien Vorenus, a noble member of Cormyr's Council of Mages. He was raised in his youth by his mother Ciara, a beautiful and simple Illuskan woman. As a boy, Krovek lived much as the other children, exploring the wilderness, play-fighting, pretending to hunt and trap, learning fierceness and determination. Despite his humble upbringing, his mother always told him that he had greatness within--noble blood from his father and magical Netherese blood from his mother.

When Ciara passed away from illness when Krovek was 8, Lucien determined to bring his bastard child to Cormyr. The decision surprised the boy, who before then had only infrequent interactions with his financially generous but otherwise distant father. Krovek was educated in much the same way as his half-brothers and sisters. Although Krovek often faced challenges from the scornful presence of Lucien's resentful wife, Vivien, Krovek's natural charm allowed him to win friends and allies, including his father whom he always sought to impress.

Krovek took quickly to his education despite being years behind his peers, attuning himself to deep knowledge, swordcraft, and--in the footsteps of his father--wizardry. Such learning came easily to Krovek, as he grew older, he was confident that he would gain admission to the War Wizards of Cormyr and perhaps follow in his father's footsteps. The War Wizards, however, had different ideas, finding Krovek to be talented but "undisciplined," and therefore unsuited to service in a military environment.

Krovek's world turned upside down after the rejection, which meant not only missing out on a top-flight arcane education but also a fall from grace in the eyes of his father. As he entered adulthood as "just another bastard child" Krovek lost the financial support that had fueled a lavish lifestyle. Unwilling to live in mediocrity, Krovek began to make his own way in the world, channeling the "wild" upbringing of his youth. For Krovek still believed the words of his mother. Greatness lay within him, and he would prove it. So it was that a proud duelist and self-taught wizard began to make a name for himself as an adventurer.

Appearance and Personality:
Krovek is tall like an Illuskan, but slender like a Chondathan, with his father's brown hair and his mother's blue-gray eyes. He is quite self-conscious about his looks, which are grounded in a carefully maintained mix of nobility and wildness--hair stylish if slightly disheveled, nice shirts with open collars, practical but form-fitting pants. Those who know would recognize his clothing to be of fine quality.

Krovek is charming and clever, if somewhat undisciplined, as the War Wizards correctly assessed. He seemingly enjoys living his life to the fullest in endless pursuit of adventure and a tale to tell at the tavern afterwards. Though he might not recognize it himself, Krovek's surface enthusiasm has an undercurrent of a deeper desire to obtain the esteem and approval of others, including his father. Thanks to his upbringing, he appreciates a wide range of cultures and seeks justice for nobles and commoners.

Relations:
-Lucien Vorenus - Krovek's father, a noble-blooded wizard on Cormyr's Council of Mages. Though known for charming both noble and common ladies alike, he is guided by duty and legacy as the patriarch of House Vorenus, a relatively minor noble family.
-Owen Sanderson - Krovek's good friend and drinking companion, a rough-and-tumble man who had a knack for getting his hands on things normally forbidden to youths. The knave taught Krovek a great deal of his more unscrupulous skills, and Krovek has often encouraged Owen to consider a life of adventure, to no avail.
-Inialos Vorenus - Krovek's half-elven half-brother, a poor fighter but skilled wizard, and another bastard who rivaled Krovek for their mutual father's attention. Inialos's stock rose as Krovek's fell, and the last Krovek had heard, Inialos had been taken as an apprentice to a War Wizard.

Feats (Secondary): Quick Draw, Precise Shot, Rapid Shot
Traits/Drawbacks:
-Dueling Cloak Adept: You are trained in using your cloak to disguise your body and deceive your enemies. While wearing a cloak and using an Aldori dueling sword, you gain a +2 trait bonus on Bluff checks made to feint. Additionally, every time you successfully feint while wearing a cloak, you gain a +1 dodge bonus to your Armor Class until your next turn.
-Child of Two Peoples: Your parents come from two visibly different cultures that maintain distinct identities regardless of their physical proximity. The tug of conflicting expectations has strengthened your sense of individuality and given you a gift for languages. You receive a +2 trait bonus on Will saves against charm and compulsion effects, and you automatically know the racial or ethnic languages of both your parents.
-Memorable: Growing up amid a large number of children, you learned quickly how to get others’ attention and keep it. When you modify a character’s attitude with the Diplomacy or Intimidate skill, the attitude change lasts 1-1/2 times longer than it otherwise would. Whenever you create a fear or mind-affecting effect that imposes a penalty or bonus with a duration of at least 2 rounds, it lasts 1 additional round after it would normally end. For example, if you demoralize a foe with an Intimidate check and beat the DC by 5, the victim is shaken for 3 rounds instead of the usual 2 rounds.
