Grandmaster TOZ |
It takes a few moments to convince the townsfolk of the safety before doors open with trepidation. The news of the undeads destruction brings joyous cheers and cautious optimism. Not-Trixie manages to convince a few of the fishermen to follow the party out to the beach and look over the boat. "Aw yeah, that's Sarian's boat! He's one of them rangers, lives maybe a mile or so north of town. Sure hope them monsters didn't get him too!"
Not-Trixie |
“Why would the spawn have fled across the lake then?” Not-Trixie wonders out loud as she follows Bo.
Narayan Singh |
"Who can fathom the minds of fiends?"
Bo Goh Twang |
"What choice did they have. It was not like they could pilot the boat without their arms." The simple mon pauses to ponder whether or not clouds have limbs. If they do not, then do they cease to exist? What of the eyes...or the mind? This is all rather confusing.
Grandmaster TOZ |
After perhaps ten minutes of walking/flying/whatever a rustic cabin appears ahead, set back enough from the beach to be on firm ground. A man can be seen swinging an axe, splitting firewood with practiced ease by a large bonfire. As the party comes within the light of the fire, he sets the axe head on the ground, resting one hand on the handle as he stares suspiciously at the eclectic group before him.
Grandmaster TOZ |
The man looks Bo up and down before answering. ”Naw, can’t says I am. That what brought you out here?”
Bo Goh Twang |
"That's odd because the people in town said the boat on the shore a mile or so to the south belongs to you. We thought it might have been stolen. We are looking for the ones we think did it."
Perception: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (4) + 32 = 36
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (7) + 31 = 38 {Is he lying or acting suspiciously like his loved ones are at risk?}
Not-Trixie |
“Please pardon our intrusion - we were recently in town and help defend the citizens from an incursion of undead monsters.” Not-Trixie smiles disarmingly at the man, her empty hands in plain sight. “When we investigated the beachfront in the aftermath of the attack, the only difference was a boat on the shore and tracks leading from it to the town. When we inquired, folks thought it could be your vehicle and wanted to make certain that you are alright. Has there been anything out of the ordinary here?”
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (17) + 27 = 44
Grandmaster TOZ |
"Right. Alright, ya got me. Wasn't missing it though, had ta leave it behind when the monsters attacked me on that island. Swam the whole damn lake ta get away." He glances out to the dark waters and throws another log onto the fire.
Not-Trixie |
“That’s quite a ways to swim,” Not-Trixie observes with a smile. “You must be a very strong swimmer - and very brave to even try in the dark when you can’t see the opposite shore. Might I ask what you were doing out there before the monsters appeared? And, hmm, why you’re tending this bonfire in the middle of the night?” She decides to wait to ask why he felt like he had to lie about the ownership of the boat.
Grandmaster TOZ |
"Nothing brave about it, was swimming for my life. I'd gone up on the island hunting fer waterfowl, when they came shambling outta some old building." He shudders, poking at the bonfire with a long branch. "Been staying close ta home, keeping watch in case them monsters find me."
Grandmaster TOZ |
"Sure. Your funeral, not mine." Crouching, he grabs a splinter of wood and begins scratching an outline of the lake in the dirt. "The place is a few miles out, past some of the bigger ones. You get up on the south side, you'll see some stonework setting up a wall. Ain't hard to spot."
Bo Goh Twang |
The monk thanks the man for his time. As soon as everyone else is ready, he heads out in search of the island {...of the Dead!!}.
Perception: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (19) + 32 = 51
Grandmaster TOZ |
Is Bo going on his own? It will be a Knowledge Geography check to follow the directions.
Narayan Singh |
Narayan will certainly accompany Bo! Though he can't read a map for s$$%....
Bo Goh Twang |
As soon as everyone else is ready
Sorry that wasn't clear, he is going with the team.
And no Geography here either.
Bo Goh Twang |
Just me. The carpet is 5x5. You might rule I could squeeze with someone? With all his gear, he is pretty close to (but under) the weight limit.
Not-Trixie |
Knowledge (geography): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
Not-Trixie makes a quick copy of the map and thanks the gentleman before bidding him farewell and turning to her companions. "It's probably in the same direction as Bo scouted earlier following the vampire spawn. I think I can triangulate where we need to go from here, though I would imagine we'll need some course corrections as we get closer."
Not-Trixie could try to use dimension door to get some of the non-flying folks to the island, but only if it's within 800 ft of the shore (880 ft if she uses a reservoir point to boost the CL, which would also let her snag 4 medium-creature's-worth of passengers (which should be enough for Selter, Sithis, and Narayan)). If the island is further out (which seems likely, though not certain given that our friendly boat-less neighbor managed to swim home), then we might need to go back to town for said boat.
Grandmaster TOZ |
The island is miles away, well out of dimension door range. It sounds like you are going back to town to get the boat?
Narayan Singh |
Makes sense to me!
Grandmaster TOZ |
Making your way back to the village, you find the boat right where you left it.

Narayan Singh |
Prepares sea shanties
Not-Trixie |
Onward!
Grandmaster TOZ |
The dark shapes of islands pass by slowly as the rowboat makes its way across the lake. Thanks to Not-Trixie's excellent guidance, the destination soon comes into view, tall juniper trees lining the shore. Huddled together, they fill the interior of this small island with dense, gloomy vegetation. An unsettling silence seems to hang over everything, broken only by the gentle lapping of the water against the side of the boat.

Narayan bounds ashore, sheathing himself in layered mystical protections before plunging further inland.
Mage Armor and Barkskin
Bo Goh Twang |
Taking a cue from his fellow monk, Bo renews his defenses as well.
With both Mage Armor (wand) and Barkskin (Ki Point). He will then use a meditation crystal to regain the Ki Point.
Sithiss |
Hmm... GM call. Do you think Sithiss could swim well enough to keep up with the rowboat? What about if I took a water elemental or large fish form to try and help her?
Selter Sago de'Morcaine PFS |
Selter changes into aquatic megafauna to carry Sithiss across the lake alongside the rowboat. If the island isn't very large, he will cruise around it once and stretch his long neck up out of the water to take a scouting run around the outside edge. If it is a large island he will at least go up and down the beach a couple hundred yards in each direction.
Not-Trixie |
Not-Trixie and Vendalfek hang in the air like a pair of bats having a silent argument over who has the better fashion sense.
About 20 ft above ground. I'm a bit confused which map we're currently on, so I added tokens to Slide 4. Mage armor activated for both via wand.
Selter Sago de'Morcaine PFS |
Selter deposits Sithiss on shore then reverts back to his 'normal' shape. Out of wildshapes for the day.
He approaches the opening and peaks in, knowing that Sithiss will struggle to get along that walk way to enter the structure.
