Selter zips over to check out the north opening while waiting for the others (especially the wizard) to catch up and check out the sphere.

On Hiatus

Selter finds a scattering of rough nests and small animal bones filling up the northern cavern. Nothing of value appears to be kept among the bedding.

”Not to state the obvious, but it’s very strongly magical - probably evocation given what it did to the corpse.” Not-Trixie pushes her glasses up on her forehead to rub her eyes. ”Given its strength, I doubt I could dispel it - though that might be our only option. Let’s test a few things first though. Narayan, can you find something inorganic to throw into it?” The wizard continues studying the hemisphere carefully.

Would a Knowledge check reveal any secrets of this thing?

Bo has no idea what the dome is, although Not-Trixie does recognize the quicksilver making up its composition. The artifact is likely outside of all but the most knowledgeable scholars experience.

**thunk**

Narayan softly lobs a rock at it.

On Hiatus

Magical energy arcs over the rock before it falls to the earth, scorched and blackened.

Grandmaster TOZ wrote:

Does it look like magical electricity maybe?

On Hiatus

Nope, just energy.

Sssuppose Ssself could change back to earth creature to try and go under.

In frustration, Selter hurls a magical ball of heated sticky black goo at the sphere. The spell Tar Ball, does fire damage.

Is the floor of the cavern solid rock, dirt, something else?

On Hiatus

The tar ball banks off the curve of the dome, apparently ineffective against the magic.

It appears to be solid rock salt.

The Exchange

Airwalk - dur 8 minutes
Wild Shape - only 1 left today
Mage Armor - dur 1 hour

Selter changes back to his 'normal' shape. Whips out his wand.
wand CLW 1: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
wand CLW 2: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

wand CLW 4: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
wand CLW 5: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Then being careful not to actually touch the sphere, Selter uses his adamantine scimitar and iron spikes to dig a small tunnel to see if the sphere extends below the surface.

On Hiatus

Selter scrapes away enough of the salt at the dome's base to see that it does not penetrate the floor, although the quicksilver does flow into the gap created.

I intentionally said a tunnel so that he surface of the salt is not disturbed. Does it still flow into the gap?

On Hiatus

How long do you want to stab at the ground with ineffective tools?

Nagaji, Naga Aspirant 10, HP 83, AC:23, FF:21, Th:12, F+13/R+9/W+14(+2mind-affecting&poison), Perc+18, Init+2

Unless someone comes up with something more likely to succeed, I have nothing but time. So a few hours. {shrug} I figure the adamantine scimitar ought to be able to cut through the salt eventually.

On Hiatus

Selter begins to bore a hole through the floor, angling to reach under the dome.

Anyone have actions they would like to take?

Point Blank Master means I can fire in melee, and my AC will be pumped for a bit (plus I have Snake Style for an additional boost). Besides, now Narayan can come in second, play the hero and said 'I told you so.' Wins all around. :)

On Hiatus

Since the party can't earth glide, I would say Selter has to fully engulf the character to transport them. So only one at a time.

On Hiatus

For those inside the sphere:
The interior of the bubble is a hollow dome, magically illuminated by an unknown source. The interior surface of this silver liquid is completely covered with various images depicting scenes of forests, plains, seas, and cities. All are extremely realistic and filled with moving creatures, flora, and weather.

Standing at the center of this hemispherical diorama, like a lone sentinel, is a tall pillar of rock. A single eye stares out from the center of this column, just above a fang-filled mouth, and shifts from scene to scene as it takes in all the images being portrayed on the interior of the silver dome. A perfectly preserved woman’s corpse lies on the side of the one-eyed pillar, partially absorbed into its stony hide.

On Hiatus

Bo:
The ponderous bulk barely shifts as the staring eye continues to focus on the scenes shown in the quicksilver reflection. If it even noticed your arrival, it makes no sign of it.

Not-Trixie:
You recognize the craggy beast as a roper, a rare aberration known to ambush prey via precise control of its body’s coloration and shape. Ssself going to try sssomething. Selter sinks back into the ground. Then a few moments later, an arm reaches up through the ground, then it gropes around until it locates a part of the woman's corpse to grab. Then it slowly slides back toward the others, dragging the body towards them.
