Just from skimming the game you are running now, I think you would do a fine job.
However, one request. The previous GM indicated that this module was greatly improved by listening to a podcast interview the author did and then adding back in some things that were cut due to page count. Would it be possible to at least check that out? I don't want to burden you with too much work. I don't know if the missing bits are encounters or just explanatory plot elements.
I don't know if the module is actively bad or nonsensical in its published form or if it is actually fine as is. I guess if you could at least give it a read-through and find that podcast interview, then judge if you think it is a good story. Certainly if you read through and then decide "This is garbage" then we could do a different scenario.
For my part I would be happy to have you take this on.

@GM RePete: thanks for offering to run this for us! we are also open to a different scenario if you have one in the level 8 range you've run in the past (i.e. so no prep time for you). Just shoot us a list of those you'd be able to quickly throw at us; I'm not attached to this current scenario as we have not started it yet.

I'm fine with running this one if you'd like. I'd just need a few days to get up to speed. The only other stand alone PFS sanctioned Mod I've run for this tier is 'The Gauntlet'. The others I've run were either higher or lower tier.
Vindlér Far-seer |
I'd also be glad to have you run the module for us, RePete! Thanks for offering to step up!
On a side-note, my wife and I actually just had our first child about two months ago! Seems like a fun coincidence!

What's your opinion on The Gauntlet? the blurb sounds like a warning of sorts, and I'm not sure how this party could do well against traps. Anyone?
GM RePete |
Re: The Gauntlet, I'm not going to mislead you. It's aptly named. That module is a beast! I did enjoy running it. In society play, you do have an option after each room to bail. Have any of you played the 'Bonekeep' stuff? It's similar in that fashion, just without the time limit.
Grats on the little one! Our newest addition was a bit of a surprise. I have a 17 year old, a 12 year old, and now a 2 month old. o.O
Berato Aquilinus |
Congrats RePete! and now you have two babysitters close at hand! ;)
About Bonekeep: I survived it along with another player, but 5 others in our party of 7 died in it. I won't lie: these kind of backbreaking dungeon crawl modules are for certain characters that have been optimized since their inception. Not for most regular, balanced partys. I'd rather take a pass on this then, and wait for a time whenever you'll feel ready with Fellnight Queen (or other, regular/normal type of scenario)
Elaril |
Hey guys.... it’s been great playing with you all but I’m going to have to bail. My work computer has now blocked Paizo and I did all my posting from there. Keeping up with games from my phone is just such a nightmare. I’m winding up my presence here as my current set of games finish.
Good luck and may the dice bless you...
Anthys |
We'll be sorry to miss you, Elaril. Thanks for all of your contributions!
@Bonekeep - I did take a Core Rogue through all 3 levels, and he did more than pull his weight. Even killed the BBEG in the first level. But we timed out on all of them. Just too much stuff to get through. I did try to play smart, plus my Core Rogue was a dwarf built for great saves and Perception and pretty solid AC. And I used a lot of consumables.
Berato Aquilinus |
Sorry to see you go Elaril. :(
It was great to have you along for last few adventures. Now we need another mage!
GM RePete |
I certainly understand Berato. The group I ran through the gauntlet almost fell in the first room. They ended up pushing through to the 10th, but called it after that one.
Best wishes to you Elaril!
@Group, are you guys wanting to try and recruit another player before this gets started up again?
I've been looking through your teamwork feats. The variable AC stuff is quite interesting.
Berato Aquilinus |
I'll poll Flaxseed for a mage; let's put this on hold until we do.
Anthys |
Sure! Looks like Dirge Bard also?
Anthys and Vindlér both have Solo Tactics, so Shadow Conjuration helps us. We'll just treat the Shadow Puppets as real allies and get our Teamwork feat bonuses from them.
Xasay Xyu |
Sure! Looks like Dirge Bard also?
Correct; once I determined the two kits were compatible, there was no friggin' way I was going to pass that up!
Does...that mean I'm in, then, just like that?
Berato Aquilinus |
Welcome to the gang Xasay!
Vindlér Far-seer |
Should be fun to have a little creepy boi on the team! Thanks for jumping in!
Berato Aquilinus |
Sure, join the fun!
Berato Aquilinus |
We haven't started the module so nothing to read. There's a fair going on I think.
Anthys |
@GM, a few key teamwork feat things for Anthys.
He has a Ring of Tactical Precision which increases the numerical value of all teamwork benefits he gives or receives by 1.
The prior GM I believe had agreed that if both the giver and the recipient have such rings, the increase is +2.
Does this agree with your view of how it should be interpreted?
Meanwhile, Anthys has the Fighter's Tactics Advanced Weapon Training ability (solo tactics). So if he is adjacent to any allies he gets, with his Ring:
+2 AC if they have a light shield or buckler, +3 if heavy (Shield Wall);
+1 untyped to all saves per adjacent ally, up to +4, with additional +1 from the Ring (I think this allows +5 total, or the cap could be fixed at +4) (Shake it Off);
+1 sacred bonus to AC and saves against evil opponents per adjacent ally, +1 more from ring, no cap (Lastwall Phalanx);
+3 morale bonus to hit and damage vs any enemy damaged by any ally within the last round, and gets Haste for a round if an ally within 30' dies (shadow puppets?) (Blood for the Empire);
+3 competence bonus to any attack, save, ability check, or skill check as an immediate action (Scion of the Lost Empire).
Most often this means that his AC and saves are quite high, especially against evil foes. He usually saves the Scion feat in case he needs to make a save. But if he is adjacent to 3 allies, his usual Will save of +4 goes to +8, or +12 vs evil foes, with a floating +3 to use once a round. That's with no Cloak of Resistance. Needless to say, he prefers to be in formation with his allies, and his saves are usually much higher than his stat line shows.
Xasay Xyu |
@DM, Would you mind including another copy of the link to the maps in your signature-or-whatever-it's-called? That would be very convenient.
Kimo Vatthana |
We haven't started the module so nothing to read. There's a fair going on I think.
There is 72 posts in gameplay. What is that?
Berato Aquilinus |
Those are not the posts you're looking for... ;)
Berato Aquilinus |
Yes, maybe real life events are making me too cynical! ;)
I was too lazy to give you a summary. Plus, you're Chaotic Neutral and you don't respond well to briefings, so I didn't want to cause your character any anxiety! ;) :P
PS: we're a party of lawful good folks... this is gonna be fun. :)
Xasay Xyu |

Your new mage is Chaotic Good, as it happens. 8D
Berato Aquilinus |
You two are the reason Berato will spend the next few nights writing a Party Constitutional Charter and Declaration of Contractor Disavowal.
GM RePete |
The map that is up there isnt mine. It's the original GMs. I've sent an email to take over the thread but it'll take paizo a little time to get it done.
I am in the process of getting my prep done for the scenario. I had hoped to be done by now but work has been quite brutal this week. At current prep rate, I expect to be ready to go fully by Tuesday evening of next week. I do apologize for the delay, but am pleased to see the recruitment went well.
I will have the map link posted in my GM Alias header, similarly to how my other game is linked. Once I am given control of this campaign thread, I'll replace the link at the top as well.
I am looking forward to seeing how this group works together. I suspect it'll be an interesting mix.
GM RePete |
Sorry for taking an extra day. Had a family issue that popped up yesterday evening and kept me away.
The map link is active in my header. As you get a chance, please fill in our perceptions, initiatives, and preferred marching order.
Lutorinus Exsuberia |
Hello! It was suggested to me that I ask if y’all are willing to take on an additional player (me!). No worries if not :)
This is the character I’d want to bring.
Anthys |
I would really rather not have Anthys ally with a Lamashtu cleric.
I understand such things are technically legal in PFS.
But we had a longstanding party that was mostly LG. Now it seems the party has fallen apart.
Not sure what I want to do if Vindlér and Marcus are both gone.
Maybe I should drop out too.
Early enough that I would not get a Chronicle, and thereby preserve my ability to play this later?
Dana Katsu |
Well, I have Dana Katsu, neutral a 7th level Psychic that potentially does not have the alignment problem as she is also following a good goddess.
Would that be an option to join you?
Thanks for the consideration.

Hey folks! Sorry for going AWOL there for a bit. I got a little overwhelmed with things for a minute. Just decided to jump back in and throw up a post. Hope my absence hasn't been too disruptive.
Berato Aquilinus |
Is Marcus still in? Sent a PM and haven't heard back in days...
GM RePete |
I sent Marcus a PM as well on Nov 18th and have not heard back.
Glad to see you back Vindler. Last few days have been a bit rough for me as well with a child being hospitalized and work issues. Sorry for my absence. Things are doing better now.
Anthys, I fully understand your position. Are you wanting to stick around still?
Xasay Xyu |
Okay, they're in the tent; what now?
Also, do I still need to save vs poison, or is that left over?
GM RePete |
Sorry, that's left over. Xasay does not need any poison save this round.
RE Tent: This post a citizen suggested collapsing a tent on the swarms. Your options to do this are 1 Strength check (Decent DC) or cutting the 4 ropes holding it up.
The ropes are at the 4 corners of the tent.

Xasay, the more your character does, the more I like the concept.
That lucky number thing is awesome!

I appreciate hearing it! He's a very 'me-appropriate' Bard, and I adore the Wayang race. They're one of the best things Pathfinder ever did.
That lucky number thing is awesome!
Pretty hard to go wrong, isn't it (just don't roll too high :P)? It's from the same book as the infamous Sacred Geometry feat! Pity they didn't think of carving out an exception to its legality for PbP play; it could actually work on here.
GM RePete |
I too love the wayang race. Personally, I went with a melee Scrollmaster/Arcane trickster with mine.
Xasay Xyu |
You know, I have never seen a Scrollmaster in play; seems like an expensive way of life. How is it?
GM RePete |
Certainly an expensive archetype to play, but I've been thoroughly enjoying it.
I rarely use the scrolls as a shield as even a miss can damage them. I typically start a combat out with one and use it a couple times as a weapon (depending on the level of the spell) before activating the scroll for it's spell effect.
I did break down and buy a few shortswords so I have options other than scrolls. I also dipped into UnRogue and picked up the 'Bleed' talent so I can get a persistent bleed going and then back off.
