Tarphrex the Magnificent
Valid points. Tarphrex is generally trusting, so he wouldn't argue either way. I won't, either.
Elisani Dascalu
Yeah, those are good points. Having them where we can keep an eye on them might be better.
Estella Vale
Yeha, I'm down with bringing them with us too. Just gotta make sure whoever the traitor is, he doesn't get the chance to 'helpfully' run ahead so he can regroup with his ogre buddies out of sight.
Tarphrex the Magnificent
I don’t mind, actually, if he chooses to self-identify for us and remove the doubt…
Let’s bring them all, then.
GM Sphen
All it is. Sending Kaven and Vale in the front. Is everyone getting resisit energy? If so, how many minutes does that give everyone?
Ceven, how many people can fly with your abilities?
Sherman Blake
Sherman will cast one resist energy, communal and 2x resist energy to get everyone.
Sherman and Ceven will have 70 mins, everyone else will get 10 mins.
Elisani Dascalu
Does the glowing lichen provide enough light to navigate without carrying a light source?
Sherman Blake
Group stealth checks are like rolling with 5x disadvantage :)
GM Sphen
Does the glowing lichen provide enough light to navigate without carrying a light source?
I apologize. I swear I wasn't ignoring you, I just forgot to answer. I often read posts on my phone but wait to make my posts until I have my laptop out and running. And I just didn't answer, for multiple days. So, again, I am sorry.
Yes, the lichen provides enough light to navigate. The whole cavern is dim light.
Ceven Valdemar
@Ceven: Did you double check? Will your power turn all 9 of you invisible?
Obviously timing is a thing, but yes: if everyone stands in a circle and Cev touches them all quickly, they will then all be invisible for a minute. Also possibly a stretch concentration-wise, but cinematically pretty cool.
Sherman Blake
I don't think the telekinetic invis works on others faq
Estella Vale
Alternate plan: Considering Elisani used Blend, and Ceven has that, that means an additional Invisibility spell from me or Tarphrex (I volunteer) would cover everyone else, and then we should be good.
Tarphrex the Magnificent
OK, thinking out loud.
Ceven can fly and make himself invisible.
Elisani is practically invisible.
Estella or Tarphrex can make most of the party hasted.
Tarphrex can burn first-level spells to grant 30-second invisibility to one person per available slot.
Estella can burn second-level slots to grant seven-minute(?) invisibility to one person per available slot.
Proposal:
Round 1: Estella casts invisibility on Sherman (longer duration, but don't attack anyone) while Tarphrex casts vanish on Jakardros. Ceven makes himself invisible and he, Elisani and Jakardros head across the courtyard to open the door.
Round 2: Estella casts haste on the remainder of the group, Tarphrex casts vanish on her, she heads for the door.
Round 3 - 5: Tarphrex casts vanish on Kale the Black Arrow, he heads to the door. Rinse and repeat for Vane and Shalelu.
Round 6: Jakardros' vanish spell expires. Tarphrex vanishes himself and he and Sherman head across the courtyard. (Sherman can head across anytime, of course, his invisibility has a better duration, but I wanted to explicitly include him).
Cost: Estella, 2nd-level and 3rd-level spell; Tarphrex, six 1st-level spells
What do you think? Did I miss anyone? I have nine characters moving over the course of six rounds. And so many ways it can go wrong...
GM Sphen
Well, that faq makes it pretty cut and dry. Any objections to Tarprhex's proposal? If presented in character, Jakardros would tell you that 30 seconds is enough time.
Sherman Blake
How sneaky are the black arrows without magical help?
I'm fine with the plan as such. Quite heavy investment of spells for crossing the courtyard - but if Tarphrex feels he has enough magic for the rest of the fort I'm good
Elisani Dascalu
Not sure we actually need that many spells, but sure. Let’s get this show on the road!
Tarphrex the Magnificent
I am absolutely down with a lesser expenditure of spells, so if someone feels they have the skills to sneak, I am happy to hold onto my spell. Just let me know.
GM Sphen
Reasonably, but obviously not guarenteed, Vale is the only one that really needs help.
He has a +1 bonus to Stealth, the others are all +13 or higher.
Estella Vale
No personal objections from my side: experience tells me I don't typically go through my spell slots anyway so I'm not fussed about the 2nd and 3rd level spell slot. I'm good!
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Let’s do it!
Estella Vale
Oh wait wait, my Invisibility spell targets 1 person per level so we can replace all those Vanish spells of Tarphrex's with the single cast of Invisibility I'm already doing.
Really sorry for making this take longer, I don't know how I missed this when reading Tarphrex's plan.
Estella Vale
Unless I'm misreading the spell (very possible) but it says "Target: you or a creature or object weighing no more than 100 lbs./level" and that would be caster level, not spell level, right?
Sherman Blake
1 person marked this as a favorite.
That sentence could use some punctuation, but I think the "/level" refers only to the weight of the object. Otherwise it would make a 7th level spell "Mass invisibility" quite pointless (or 3rd level invisibility sphere, for that matter). I've always played invis is one target only (which of course doesn't mean I couldn't be wrong about it...)
Tarphrex the Magnificent

Sherman's correct. Your spell gives you three choices for a target:
You
A creature - weighing no more than 100 lbs per level
An object - weighing no more than 100 lbs per level
I checked your spell list when I made the plan, assuming we would have discussed in-character.
I was going to quote the group invisibility spell for comparison, but I see that it has changed on aonprd.com. It used to be something along the lines of targets a creature per level, but it is now much broader with "any number of creatures, no two of which can be more than 180 ft. apart". I wonder if that's courtesy of the Remaster - I didn't know they applied remaster updates to PF1e.
Estella Vale
Ah, thank you! I really couldn't put my finger on it but being able to invis 7 people at once felt wrong to me, but I struggled to interpret it any other way. Thanks for setting me straight, all good to move on with the plan as discussed.
GM Sphen
Alright, with that many expended resources, you move across the space.
Make sure to mark off spent spells.
Elisani Dascalu
I vote we let Jakardros take the lead, he knows where he's going.

Tarphrex agrees.

Done.

We are late in the packing for our annual fall trip to somewhere else. I will likely have access, at least by phone, so my normal (slow) rate of posting should not be interrupted. In case I don't get back here for a minute, have a fantastic day. Every day.
Cheers!
GM Sphen
Hey everyone. Sorry I haven't posted much in the past week. Just been swamped IRL with stuff. I was watching for anything I needed to respond to, but to mentally drained to push people to post.
Slowed down now, though. So I'll be back to bothering people.
@Tarphrex: Have fun on your trip. Hopefully the travel portion goes smoothly.
Estella Vale
Don't sweat it, hope everything's going okay!
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Sorry RL is bogging you down - I feel like my recent posting has fallen off considerably for similar reasons. Always, take the time you need. This should be a form of escape not another source of stress.
As for the trip, we have safely arrived and find ourselves surrounded by mountains! Today's actually a rest day after hiking 7 miles yesterday up onto the ridge overlooking the town. We don't have anything truly epic planned - just escaping RL for a few days - but we will try to push some limits.
Hope everything's getting sorted for you.

You know, when our kids were old enough to get themselves breakfast, we thought we had it made. But now they're old enough to be in seperate extracurricular activities, and it is the seperate part that is tough. One night, one kid is in cheer camp and the other is at soccer. Another night they both have dance class. Another night one is back at soccer while one is doing ice skating lessons 30 minutes away. It's not a "problem", but it is time consuming.

I’m told that someday, you will look back on this time with fond memories. But you have to make the memories now to enjoy them later.

This post really made me smile ... so how far out are you from the next trade-off? How long till you have to let them drive themselves ;)
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Hey, Ceven, welcome back! It's your turn to post if you've got a minute!
Ceven Valdemar
TY :)
I've been here, but thank you.
I'm here every day.
Was more than a little put off by the deeply researched "Ceven's wrong post" but got through that.
That said, yesterday's GM post gave a turn order and it didn't seem to be Cev's turn unless what is typed above the turn order (which I thought was prep) is actually everyone else's turns. LMK.
Also still happy to add people on Discord in case someone wants to reach out if it seems like I'm lagging.
GM Sphen
@Tarphrex: I look back at all of our years with fondness. Even the times when I'm so tired I just want to fall asleep in the (most uncomfortable) chair (possible) rather than watch another person's kid(s) while waiting on my own. My biggest hope is that they look back on these times fondly.
@Ceven: We've got another six years before the oldest can drive. Our next big landmark is next year, though, right around the beginning of summer. THe oldest becomes old enough to (legally) babysit and the youngest gets her own phone. And her own cat. And I start teaching her to play Pathfinder.
@Ceven2: It is, indeed, your turn in combat.
@All: Map is on page 9. The blue circle is Sherman's silence spell. One ogre is defeated. If you have a declared move, please move your pawns, just in case.

@Sherman Blake: As a bystander, it appeared that Ceven was unsure that the ability should be so powerful, so I found it very kind of you to take the time to search to answer the unspoken question I "heard" when I read their post.
I don't think you did anything wrong.
@Ceven: We are in this together, learning limitations or interesting combos of our powers. It's not criticism if someone else finds a nugget of information that's been overlooked and shares it. If Tarphrex or any of my other characters is doing something beyond their abilities, I fully expect someone to speak up and point out how the rules say it should be done.
Please don't take offense if someone offers assistance in playing a better Ceven - it's meant well.

@Ceven: Last reminder before I bot Ceven. I'm trying to avoid doing so because it is such a complicated class I don't want to miss anything.

Apologies all, roommate was "sick" and then tested positive for ... yep, COVID. My bad, took me away from things. I'm here now, happy to be prompted or proded as needed.

I do not recommend Death Valley this time of year, for the record.
Though I do like to bask in the sun like any self-respecting reptilian.
