Ain the watcher
No arcane spell failure. It's classified as a shirt pr robe taking up the chest slot
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Oh… yes, I would love that on so many levels!
May I have the tunic?
Ain the watcher
Go for it, Imo. Its best put on an arcane caster
Elisani Dascalu
Sorry for the delay, I was out of my thyroid medication for several days. Turns out that’s a bigger problem than I thought, I’ve been really out of it. Tired, difficulty thinking… wait, aren’t those the symptoms that when I told the doctor years ago, he ordered a thyroid test? Oh yeah. Funny how that works. Lesson learned.
I’m fine with Tarphrex getting the snakeskin tunic. While the +Dex would be helpful for Elisani, sorcerers are squishy and Tarphrex needs the extra protection.
Hopefully I will feel better now that I have my meds and be able to do the leveling up math.

Well, I'm evaluating the facts of the item. I am casting Mage Armor as daily prep now, so I won't actually benefit from the AC bump most of the time. I could buy a belt of Dexterity and get the bump to Dexterity. And I have a Cloak of Resistance that covers half of the resistance bonus to poison.
And all of this has been assuming that the tunic will resize to Small, anyway. It has lost some of its luster, so I will happily take it thematically, but functionally it might benefit another more.
In other news, Alain had many big items, but Tarphrex would like to have something to remember him by and would like to claim his flint and steel with the tiny rose of Sheylyn engraving on the little steel plate. If I'm not allowed to just say it's there, I will hire an artisan to put one there for me. And Quinn's character sheet included a Small cold iron dagger - would anyone mind Tarphrex keeping that? Small daggers to remember his Small friends is a fun bit of synchronicity.
GM: It appears that shenanigans involving a buckler when not proficient with shields are nullified by the mithral because there is no armor check penalty - is that how it will be ruled? Might not be worth it just to avoid the cheese - hard to see Tarphrex suddenly taking up the shield unless Alain has inspired him.

And I should have said this first, very glad you are feeling better and have what you need at hand.
Estella Vale
Yeah glad to hear you're doing better now! It sounds pretty rough.
Also, from beyond the grave, Loth would be thrilled that Tarphrex would have a keepsake from him, so you're more than welcome to get the dagger if you ask me.
GM Sphen
I was going to tell a story about my mom having her thyroid removed, but it got a little ..... weird. So I'll just say, glad you're feeling better.
One of my favorite things is coming back after the weekend to see so many posts on the game. Love it.
But I'm sure I'm going to miss some questions, so please re-ask.
__________
@Tarphrex: RE: The Flint & Steel
Having that engraving confers such an over-powered mechanical benefit, that I hesitate to allow it. But, for the sake of flavor, I'll retconn it for an adequate cost. Let's say 65,000 gp.
The snakeskin tunic would resize. All wondrous items and magical rings will resize to fit the user unless otherwise stated.
Magical armor and weapons need to have the resizing property put onto them.
___________
@Someone who asked about mithral buckler rules stuff: I read through all the bits about mithral and bucklers and non-proficiency and and and and and.
Having a mithral buckler would not negatively affect a person in any way. It does not grant proficiency with bucklers, but the penalty is that you would take the armor check penalty to a bunch of rolls. But the ACP for a mithral buckler is 0. So it effectively does nothing. And the arcane spell failure chance is also 0%. So it's all good. And I learned something new for my sorcerer in Jade Regent.
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Tarphrex will start saving for this game-altering engraving on the flint and steel immediately. And a Small mithral buckler.
I will leave the snakeskin tunic for another party member that will get more good out of it.
He has Zenaida’s holy symbol of Falayna(?), Loth’s Small cool dagger (will research any particulars from when it was gained), Alain’s flint and steel, and maybe Quinn’s Small cold iron dagger. He will defer to the other party members in any other gear that want to claim and accept his share of coin when those decisions are made.
I submit that the new character will be kitted out and does not need us to set things aside for them. Make your wishes known based on the characters that are present. We will be here forever if everyone defers to everyone else - if two want it, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.
Elisani Dascalu
Estella, you interested in the snakeskin tunic? If not, Elisani will take it. If so, we can both roll a d20 and the highest roll gets the loot.
Estella Vale
I gotta admit, a dex boost like that is hard to pass up. Let's roll on it.
Need: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Well, unless you're very unlucky, enjoy your tunic! :D
Elisani Dascalu
Need: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Nice. Next time we get loot that both of us can use, Estella, it's yours. :)
Tarphrex the Magnificent
OK, attempting to organize this a bit. I don't have access to the loot list at top of page, does anyone else?
Our three fallen companions that weren't turned to rubble (sorry, Zenaida/Elisani!) had the following with anyone I have noticed expressed interest:
Medium mithral breastplate - Estella, Sherman
Medium mithral buckler - Sherman
Medium +1 bastard sword
Cracked dusty rose prism ioun stone - Sherman interested
Wand of CLW, 39 charges
Flint & Steel - Tarphrex
Small studded leather armor
Small +1 buckler
Small shortbow
Small dagger (x4)
Small cool dagger - Tarphrex
Medium silver dagger
Small +1 shortsword
Caltrops (x2) - Tarphrex if no one else
Shoddy alchemist's fire (x2) - 2% failure chance
Masterwork Thieves' Tools - Tarphrex if no one else
Small cold iron dagger - Tarphrex
Small +1 adaptive composite darkwood longbow
Small +1 mithral chain shirt
Small +1 darkwood buckler
Boro bead (1st)
Headband of Int (+2, Escape artist)
Belt of Con (+2)
Alchemist's Kit
Alchemist's Lab, portable
1477 gp total
Lamia's loot:
330 gp in the form of 33000 copper pieces
810 gp in the form of 8100 silver pieces
900 gp in the form of 900 gold pieces
1000 gp in the form of 100 platinum pieces
4200 gp in the form of unspecified jewelry and gemstones
(1448 gp per character if jewelry and gems are sold at full value)
Four potions, one identified as Cure Moderate Wounds
Golembane Brooch - Estella
+2 Kukri - Sell
Impaler of Thorns, +1 Longspear, 1/day despair effect - Estella
Snakeskin Tunic, +1 AC, +2 Dex, +2 resist vs poison - Elisani
Unidentified mask, seems to be powerful - Keep & ID
Is that everything? See anything you like that you hadn't noticed before? Lay claim! Estella and Sherman - were you going to investigate swapping armor? Estella, were you interested in the buckler or only the breastplate? Ain, do you see anything you like or are you waiting for cash to pick up something nice later? :D
Those are the questions I'm aware of at this point.
Ain the watcher
I'm saving cash to buy more things later. Hopefully the enchanted stuff we sell goes for a bit lol
Estella Vale
I COULD take the buckler, but because my main weapon is a two-handed spear, I'd not get the most mileage out of it. That's why I think it's better suited for Sherman.
And yes, if I take the breastplate, that opens up the +2 chain shirt I got right now for Sherman to use if he has any use for it. But if he prefers the breastplate, that's totally fine too.
Sherman Blake
My main interest for mithral is the low weight for STR 7 character :) If anyone who is more likely to get hit would get better AC from that, just go ahead
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Totally up to the two of you, but from the sidelines, it looks like the benefit of the mithral breastplate for Sherman is greater than it is for Estella because of the weight differential. And that frees up an enchanted mithral chain shirt for another character or sale if Sherman wishes to trade it out...
Did anyone wish to claim the Headband of Intellect or the Belt of Constitution? Those for certain seem to be items we would rather use than sell.
GM Sphen
Presuming I have all (or enough) of the details with the new player worked out by then, the plan is to start book 3 on Monday (the 15th). I am going to say that you all have 2 days of absolute downtime to do with as you please between books. Don't worry about paying for lodging and food, just presume that someone does it for you in gratitude for your service to the city.
Elisani Dascalu
If nobody else wants the headband of intellect, Elisani can use it. I definitely want the boro bead, but not the portable alchemist lab.
Sherman Blake
Armor doesn't resize, right? Otherwise the Small +1 darkwood buckler would be great for Sherman.
And Sherman has his belt and headband already, so no need for those from the loot.
And if I take the breastplate, that would free the current mithral shirt +1
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Weapons, armor, shields would require additional magic properties to resize. The mithral buckler seems a good fit for Sherman and might be enchanted later.
I've added Sherman's mithral shirt +1 and put the mithral breastplate on him to the sell pile for the tentative distribution I'm working on.
And here's a link to that draft. I didn't make it openly editable because I'm a control freak, but I will happily change anything. I'm trying to approach it from a WBL point of view, but I'm not pretending that it's perfect, so please let me know if you see any errors. I can explain more about my method if you are interested.
1. Note the items in the first (Sell) column. As far as I can tell, those are completely up for grabs. The Belt of Constitution, in particular.
2. Elisani and Estella are currently receiving well above the average and Sherman is receiving about average from the pool. I'm absolutely fine with that, just being transparent. I haven't attempted to adjust the cash amounts to make things more even yet.
Estella Vale
I'll look over everything one extra time once I hav eaccess to the draft. Thank you for the hard work!
Tarphrex the Magnificent
I may have done it wrong, but there’s a link in the post. It’s in-line - the words “a link” should take you to my Google sheet.
Estella Vale
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Yes, I spotted the link, but it blocks me off, telling me I gotta request access, so I did. If that wasn't the intention, you might want to check your share settings, make sure that its set to "everyone with the link" is allowed in as a "viewer".
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Well, aren't my scales red. I thought it was open to whoever had the link and was watching the wrong email address, to boot. You should have rights to see it now. My apologies.
Elisani Dascalu
Okay, now I can see it! Thank you so much for being our bookkeeper, Tarphrex. I have a mild form of dyscalculia (think dyslexia but with numbers), so if I tried this I WOULD mess it up. The only question is to what degree.
This is one reason I like PbP, the dice roller will add and subtract my roll modifiers for me. And Myth Weavers does a lot of the math for my character sheet.
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Great - looking forward to feedback!
Estella Vale
Looks good to me, thanks again!
GM Sphen
I have also requested access. I'll replace the other link in the campaign description.
Delay on the new character. They are debating builds at the moment. All tank builds, though.
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Thanks for pointing that out - I believe everyone that has requested access has viewer access now.
Anyone have any change requests?
GM Sphen
Link is updated to Tarphrex sheet. I would also like to add my thanks for you handling loot.
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Well, I will try to maintain it. I was just trying to facilitate getting it done so we could move forward.
I was assuming there would be some adjustments to make things a little more even. Mostly regarding cash.
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Would the characters that got more magic be willing to forgo cash so that cash can go to those with smaller shares this time around?
I did not attempt to review everyone's WBL, so that might not be fair, so I'm asking.
Estella Vale
As far as I'm concerned, Estella's money is the party's money, so feel free to distribute mine accordingly.
Sherman Blake
We could have pool money, and then use from that when we need new gear for characters who didn't get anything from loot?
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Tarphrex has modest purchase plans, so we could certainly redirect pool money to Ain so they get something from the hoard.
If no one is interested in the Belt of Constitution, Tarphrex can certainly keep it, which would augment his share and reduce everyone's cash by a bit. It is currently unclaimed.
Also unclaimed is the Medium silver dagger.
Currently, I have the healing potions distributed to everyone but Sherman.
I think everything else has been written off already. If no one has any concerns, I will post a final accounting of what's going to who and clear the treasure sheet.
Going once....

Sorry I forgot to specify, I thought this was standard procedure. The people who don't get magic items as loot get a bigger share of the cash so they can buy what they need. So yes, by all means, give Tarphrex, Ain, and Sherman more gold!
As long as I have enough to buy a horse and mundane travel gear I'm good. (Zenaida had a horse and pack mule, but I'm not sure what happened to them.)
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Agreed.
Up to the GM, but I think the livestock would be at her parents or the base of the tower and therefore retrieved.
I will update the spreadsheet with a suggestion for the reallocation of cash.
Hearing no dissent, I will put the belt of constitution +2 on Tarphrex and give Ain more money. :D
Edit: I have moved cash around and made the value distribution for Sherman, Ain, and Tarphrex pretty much equal. I will provide a listing for each character shortly.
GM Sphen
I would say that, since I don't remember anyone saying they brought animals or mounts, that such things were left with families. Which means none of those things were stolen, so huzzah.
Tarphrex the Magnificent

@GM: How strict are you going to be on things like rations and animal feed? Because I have a grand total of 9 gp cash right now, and didn't buy any rations at character creation. I've had some GMs who didn't care and some who wanted you to keep track of that stuff. (One particular 3.5 adventure in the Underdark comes to mind. That was not a good time.)
Zenaida's horse would have had her camping gear, since the tent and such are too bulky to carry easily no matter what your Str is. Pretty sure she had her rations in her backpack though, so those are toast.
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Point taken. How much cash will Elisani and Estella need? Unless we suddenly have a patron, they need something. I will adjust.
Elisani Dascalu
Go ahead and give someone else the CMW potion if that helps.
Ain the watcher
Works for me. Thats money for more runestones and dwemer essence. And oracle things i can't think of atm
GM Sphen
So, once upon a time, I ran a game where all the players agreed to track every little thing. Each arrow was given the 50% roll to see if it broke after being used, each ration, each waterskin, AoE spells dealt damage to armor and gear, all of it. We were all eager for the emmersion, for the first session. The second session was less exciting. We didn't make it more than half a dozen games before we collectively decided that it was just to tedious to deal with.
All that to say, I'm not going to nitpick it. Mostly because I just don't have the time or the desire to do so. Buy some feed if you have a mount, have a waterskin and backpack, you know the normal things an adventurer would have for travel.
If I can't trust you all to play fairly, you won't trust me.
Tarphrex the Magnificent
Well, we know the price of the mask. Keep or sell? Tarphrex does not desire it.
Tarphrex will happily share some of his gold with Elisani and Estella because they helped bring the lamia matriarch down. Let’s just handle your expenses that way. I had been thinking about it and just hadn’t said it out loud.
Elisani Dascalu

Oh thank god. That Underdark adventure got tedious real quick what with all the bookkeeping.
@Tarphrex: Thank you so much! Elisani doesn't need a lot if she can use Zenaida's horse and the camping gear it was carrying. Maybe 20 gp? That would give me some cash on hand for food and lodging at inns and such.
Tarphrex the Magnificent
@Elisani: My pleasure. I have enough to buy my mithral buckler. I won't know what to do with the rest. I'm notorious for carrying ridiculous amounts of coin around because I forget I have it until I get more.
I think we have a majority, but I'd like to make sure Estella and Sherman don't have any changes they want to suggest. Democratic to a fault.

OK, I have agreement from Estella and Sherman on the current loot distribution. I noticed a small error in the cash for Ain, so I'm going to review the numbers and post a final-final distribution here. It shouldn't take me long.
EDIT: And I noticed a rather larger potential error, so you may notice some structural changes to the spreadsheet today. More to come!
