Welcome to Varisia, and to Sandpoint - a small coastal town located to the west of the region. For the last forty-two years, there hasn't been much trouble in this small coastal town, but that is all about to change.

So sorry to hear that and hope you get well soon, Cade.

I should go ahead and let you all know that my mother received a referral for Hospice today. This, of course, shifts my priorities away from gaming for the time being. Hopefully I will be able to keep up at least a stumbling pace so we don't lose the game completely.

Apologies, this year so far has been one thing after another and this is the worst yet.

Several years ago, we lost my father-in-law.

He hadn't responded to any of his children in over a week (none lived close, of course), so one of his daughters called the police and requested a health and wellness check.

They found cause to enter the home and found him sitting in a chair, alive, but unresponsive. Among other issues, as a side effect, his kidneys had shut down. The nephrologist said she had never seen anyone alive with blood toxin levels that high.

Turns out he had a bone marrow cancer. He lived with us for months, undergoing treatment to kill his bone marrow and having dialysis every 4 days, IIRC. The entire time his body continued to deteriorate.

Eventually, he was admitted because they were having trouble getting the dialysis system connected to his bloodstream. That night we were told first that the treatments to kill the bone marrow had succeeded, and we could schedule thebone marrow transplant to get him seriously on the mend. Minutes later we were told they could no longer perform dialysis for him because of the deterioration, and started the paperwork for us to take him home to die.

The good part of this is that there was time to gather his children to see him off.

Why did I go through that? So that you might believe you are not alone; that some of us understand where you are right now. Take care of your family and yourself. We can wait.

I am home and resting as best as I can. Covid is not fun to get. I will be back up to normal posting rate soon. Since I am self quarantining, I will be using my laptop for posts. It may be a bit hard to view maps right now but I will make do.

My Father is back in hospital just now. He had a bad case of Pneumonia about 10 years ago. Now when he gets a cold it goes straight to pneumonia and he goes to hospital. Add that to the several heart attacks he's had and we know it's only a matter of time.

Luckily my mother was a nurse for 50 years and knows what to do. Plus she's in great health.

So I'm a little distracted myself. Family comes first always. Take all the time you need.

I am 3ish hours East of home, with my 27 year old daughter in a neurological ICU.

She is supposed to be in observation for 24~48 hours. Beennworking this issue since 0500 local this morning. I make no promises about posting on my phone through this.

As we know and all agree...Real life comes first.

I am not sure (I could be jumping the gun here) but maybe RL has taken our GM away from us.

How do we wish to proceed?
Do we wait longer in hopes of her return?
Do we look for a new GM?
Do we call it quits and toss this game to the pile of lost PBP games?

That's a mighty big pile ... pretty much every PbP game I've ever gotten into has fallen onto that pile by 3rd level. I'm happy to wait a bit before consigning another game to it.

Agreed - good things are worth waiting for, and this game has proved to to be good. Happy to wait.

I would enjoy continuing, but I no longer hold my breath on the attempts to find replacement GMs. Too old and cynical, I guess.

Alternatively, would y'all be interested in moving the game to play by post on a discord server? There are several play by post lodges on discord servers, and I know several GMs on them that have run RotR before; maybe they'd be willing to run it again for us. I personally prefer play by post on discord; the syntax is more lightweight, you can get notifications, the games tend to run a little faster, you have more control over your art, etc

As the only surviving original character I'm happy to shift to discord if we get a GM.

Seemed like every time we got moving a player would vanish. Or a Gm. :)

I found a GM who has played and run Rise of the Runelords before. He has run RotR and Strange Aeons to completion in PbP so I'm optimistic this will work out well.

He prefers to run APs on a private server so he can have full control over channel configuration (I do the same thing for my own run of Rise of the Runelords and Age of Ashes, it has a lot of benefits.
