5E Adventure's in Midgard – North (Reaver's Spring)

Game Master Tareth

A small merchant caravan led by Rook Bentknee, a kobold merchant, travels up the coast of the Bay of Ghed to deliver goods and trade with Rook's former adventuring companion and occasional business partner, Britta Gleamgaurd, human owner of the Frost Maiden Inn in the village of Nargenstal.

(Waves to Grimmy)

I'm going to bow out here - not getting the chance to really explore Kráku's concept and I'm a tad burned out from the old "return to work" blues.

Should be an interesting game - will keep an eye on it. Good luck all!

Cheers

Wow, so is Courlandia still ruled by a red dragon?

I'm trying to come up with a conspiracy theory.

Elves are behind the vampire invasion?

Grimmy: Yes, Courlandia is ruled by a red dragon. While technically still under the authority of Dornig, the red queen is pretty much free to do as she pleases especially since the Imperatirx has fallen into a coma.

Oh sorry I see now your campaign tab confirms Red Queen.

So are we on the Courlandia side of the bay or the Krakovar side?

I think I should be running from Courlandia rather than Krakova. After proselytizing that elves and the Order of the Undying Sun have conspired against Krakova.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

We will be starting out on the Courlandia side, but quite a ways north of the city. More toward the tip of the penisula. This first go around is much more rural, small village focused so you could easily be on the run from the queens guards by joining the small merchant caravan north. Could even be that Natloz's minotaur (as a general outsider and not having any real knowledge of the Dancing Bears) suggested you to Bentknee to help guide the rugged trails along the coast. Thus his rep is on the line as well should your skills prove less than adequate. :) I'll leave that to the two of you to decide.

Guys does anyone want to make any character connections?

I'm yur huckleberry.

1) I've found that the Smart People hold off on character connections until after selection. Otherwise you risk doing a lot of work on a plot that goes no where if you're not selected.

But, since I'm not that bright... =)

2) If you actually are from Krakovia, all you would need to do is proclaim that vampires are bad and the Krakovian land should be restored, and Aterro's gauntlet of STEEL would quickly intercept any and all criticism headed your way.

"You say that this man doesn't know anything about the woods? PAH! Blessed is the mind too small for doubt."

Let the wacky hijinks ensue. =)

No that's true though. It puts DM's in a weird situation too.

I lol'd tho. That's always a good sign.

I am from Krakova just more recently in Courlandia.

I tried with bard and fighter but came back to ranger.

Tweaked the point buy a little. The "homepage url" field in this profile contains a link to the full sheet on dndbeyond.

Still filling out the flavor portion.

Proficiencies Light & medium armor & shields. Martial & simple weapons. Disguise kit & forgery kit.

A founding member of "No Empire No Problem", a small group of uneducated political activists committed to revealing a vast conspiracy between the Imperatrix Regia and the Paladins of Khors to bring Krakova under vampire rule.

Charlatan background. He's not actually motivated to con people for personal gain, his deceptions are purely a counter measure fueled by his paranoia.

Currently posing as a Dancing Bear Guide to escape prosecution in Courlandia. He's actually very uncomfortable in the outdoors and forgot to bring even the basics like a bedroll.

stats and party role:
His skill with a crossbow comes from the tavern where the society met. They had a special dart board designed to be used with a crossbow for drinking games.

His ideals are somewhat like those of the Libertarian party in America.

He fights with a rapier and a handcrossbow, so all he really needed was Dex. I gave him an odd wisdom score so he can develop into a "real" ranger later on.

At the outset he's woefully unprepared to be a guide although I will allude to his upbringing along the Bay of Ghed to explain his coastal favored terrain.

If it's ok I'd like to slightly downplay his spellcasting when it comes online as more Sif derived than nature derived.

If everyone else is doing more optimal Stat arrays I could dump strength and take more con and swap the "face" stuff for regular ranger skills but the way he is now is more how I like to picture him.

So here are the final PC's. Everyone has great ideas and I'm sorry I couldn't get everyone into the group, but I'd agree with others that anymore over 6 probably isn't a good idea. For those who the dice roller didn't favor, if anyone drops I'll reach out to you all first as potential replacements. Also keep an eye out for Grimmy's Southland Midgard recruitment.

For everyone in the group, please go ahead and check in to the discussion tab and go ahead and finalize any character details or backgrounds.

Planning to open Gameplay thread up soon to allow for any initial PC roleplay and a plan to officially get underway Wednesday or Thursday if everyone is set and ready by then.

Poop missed it

Hi There,
Brother Aterro invited me over.

Looks like everyone is 5th level and you've got a Fighter, Druid, Wizard and Cleric.

Let me refresh myself on Midgard and see what inspiration strikes :)

Thanks

Hey,

Atlas asked me to take a look. I have never played 5e, so I may need a little help.

After reading a little, I have an idea for a character. A midget who has been raised by a travelling pimp and his two ladies. I'm thinking rogue. So, does a human little person have any stat changes?

Cucumber: If you're looking to play someone of short stature, you might want to look at Halflings, Dwarves, or Ratfolk. Both Halflings and Ratfolk typically go well with the Rogue class. Choosing a different race will mean changes to stats and some additional abilities. You can also stick with regular human, and just RP someone who is short. But in that case, there would not be any mechanical stat or other benefits/disadvantages generated.

Awesome, Human + RP

There's so many interesting options...but I'll narrow it down this weekend...

Like Cucumber and Spazmodeus, Atlas sent me an invite. I’ve been reading the game thread and thinking about character ideas. I’ll need to refresh my knowledge of Midgard, but I think I have a few ideas that should be interesting for you GM.

For those working on potential ideas, we've got two openings right now. Once you've landed on something go ahead and post the alias here. Note, that although the group is 5th level, magic items and treasure have been very limited. Because of this, no starting magic items, but you go get an extra 250GP to spend in addition to any starting wealth.

If anyone has questions feel free to post them here.

I know the original build rules said that only the PHB, XGtE, and the MHH would be allowed, but would you be willing to allow a background from the Midgard Heroes book? I can PM you the details if needed.

Adam: The Backgrounds from Midgard Heroes are fine. The race information would all default to the MHH since it is the more recent book.

Cool, thanks!

Going to try out a Warlock, using the Hexblade Patron, pact of blades of course :)

Will work in the background: Mystic of Baba Yaga from the Midgard Heroes Handbook.

not sure about race, probably human ...

Background:
His mother, destitute and sick, saw the burden her son would impose. While holding her son's shoulder, she says, "I can't do nothin' for ya." and she vanishes into a city street filled with people. The eight year old tries to go after her, but the small misshapen boy only got more lost. The day spun like a top. As the sun slung low, he sat on a curb crying.

A wagon pulls up in front of him. It has a banner on the side facing him. Therapeutic Massage

A man steps out from the driver's side. He wears a white silk shirt with flared cuffs. His vest is blood red with mother of pearl buttons. His slacks were purple velvet. His boots had glass soles. When he jumped down, the boy half-expected the glass to shatter on the cobblestone streets. They didn't. The boots were custom made for the man. He must have paid a pretty copper for them.

"Hey why you cryin'?" The man says. The boy tells the stranger his name and his story. "Ah hells. I'm callin' you 'Lil Man' from now on. My real name is Kane. You can call me 'Big Daddie'." The looks around irritated. "Where is them wenches?!? Oh I see 'em." He waves them over. "Don't make me wait. Slow. Stop bein' so slow."

"Sorry Big Daddie." The two girls say in unison.

Big Daddie Kane points at the boy. Scintillate. Satisfaction. This is Lil' Man. He'll be ridin' with us. Go make room. Scintillate grabs Lil Man's arm and says. "Well aren't you so precious. We'll give you one of Big Daddie's furs to sleep in."

"Get him to fetch some water first." remarks Satisfaction. Her face expressing that Scintillate should not be babying the boy.

--------------------------

The years had flown by. Lil' Man was a full grown 3'6". His head was man size. His body was that of a child. He had a very fun life with his new family. Every new town opened up to them. When they left, the town's pockets were lighter and the wives angrier.

In a stretch between towns, Big Daddie clutched at his chest. He falls sideways into the driver's seat. Lil' Man gently cradles his head. "Come on Big Daddie. Don't leave me." The back of Lil' Man's throat felt thick with sorrow and grief. Words failed and the crying began.

Lil' Man buried Big Daddie in field of grass. Scintillate and Satisfaction helped him. They divvied up, and said their goodbyes.

I'm finishing up a Ranger Fey Wanderer with a criminal background.

I hope I got the math right. Please Let me know if everything is acceptable.

Sent you a PM, DM. If you're okay with the idea and I do get in, I'd kinda like some details to be a surprise for the others. I'm sure Atlas is already suspicious of me with just that. :3

Are you doing an Artificer?

You're doing an Artificer aren't you? =3

Hi, though the game looks very interesting, I've decided to run another game and so don't want to overload my gaming agenda, and so won't be finishing a submission.

Thanks for the invite, Atlas!

Happy Gaming!

I have one question I haven't seemed to find an answer to, are we using feats?

Silver Crusade

Yes. (Or, at least I have one from being a 'uman an' stuff.)

I imagine the GM would want to approve it, but there's an entire school of thought that says feat in 5E are underpowered, so I don't foresee an issue.

Mainly looking at nabbing medium armor master. I’d like to be able to take a hit and be sneaky. I did learn my lesson from Arianna.

As for artificer, we’ll, that class isn’t in the PHB nor XGtE nor MHH as far as I know, so no artificer for this crew. Blacksmith on the other hand....

@Spazmodeus: Sorry to see you go. Good luck with your game!

Adam: Feats from the PHB and MHH are okay.

Spazmodeous: I totally understand. Good luck with the new game.

Did you get a chance to go over my character crunch?

All: I realize Tasha's wasn't out when we started this campaign so it isn't in the list of 'accepted' books. However, we have allowed some things from it since then, so I'll go ahead and allow the class options from Tasha's. But I'm going to keep feats limited to PHB and MHH for now.

Lil'Man: All looks fine, although it looks like you'll need to select your final languages

Oh yeah. I forgot to ask. What would be some useful choices for the campaign? The list is soooo big.

Here are some Midgard specific languages.

Elvish or Sylvan for more of a Fey tilt.
Dwarvish is widely spoken in the northern realms and areas around Zobeck.
Darakhul, language of the Ghoul Empire, although there should be a good background reason for learning).
Northern Tongue. Also called Rune Tongue. Similar to Giantish and Dwarven. Common among Reavers and other northern peoples/creatures.
Umbral, language of the Shadow Fae and other shadow creatures.
Mharoti (Draconic), language of the Draconic Empire.
Ankeshelian, a dead language but still used by many wizards and other arcanists. Again, this might require a good background reason for knowing since you aren't a mage.
Nurian. Common language of the Southlands and the realm of Nuria Natal.

This is a limited list and doesn't cover all available. It does cover those most likely to be encountered on a regular or semi regular basis.

Perfect

Elvish, Northern Tongue, Nurian

Ready when you are

One more question

Otherworldly Glamour
Additionally at 3rd level, your fey qualities give you a supernatural charm. As a result, whenever you make a Charisma check, you gain a bonus to the check equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of +1).

does this mean I add WIS bonus to CHA skills?

For instance would my persuasion go from 8 to 10?

Yes, that is how it would work.

Rough Draft of Kalisuel's Stats:

Female Elf-marked Bard (College of Valor) 5
Background: Fey-Touched
Stats: (Before Racial|After Racial (point cost))
STR: 13|14 (5)
DEX: 15|16 (9)
CON: 11|11 (3)
INT: 10|10 (2)
WIS: 09|09 (1)
CHA: 14|16 (7)

Proficiencies: Light and Medium Armor, Shields, Simple and Martial Weapons

Feats:
Medium Armor Mastery (4th)

Spells:
Cantrips - Mending, Prestidigitation, Minor Illusion
1st - Cure Wounds, Disguise Self, Fairie Fire, Feather Fall, Healing Word, Silent Image
2nd - Invisibility, Lesser Restoration

Party Role:

I'm picturing Kali as a scout, healer (So Aterro can use more of his slots for zappin'), and skirmisher in battle. In less martial situations, she'll be the face and spokesman of the crew and the go to craftsperson for custom work in the party. (maybe with some fae-touched enchantments if the DM is willing.)

Personality:

At the moment, Kali's a wilder kind of fae-kin, more of a force of nature than the civilized elves that once ruled Midgard. She's good, but not always nice. I'll try to flesh it out more as I work on getting her background down.

For now, imagine someone as warm and cheerful as a breezy spring day with the capacity to be as vicious and ruthless as a howling, winter nor'easter and you'll be close to what she's like.

Backgound:

She wakes up in the middle of a field with no memories of what came before.

More to come as I get it down. I'm pretty much done for the night.

Lil'Man and Kalisuel, you are both in. Welcome aboard. Jump over to Discussion to finalize any PC questions and I'll figure out how to weave you into the current situation in Gameplay.

Cool. I’ll try to have Kali’s sheet useable tonight.
