Yeah no worries, I mean we can probably prevail just ignoring tactics completely. It came to mind because I used it recently I guess.
Scramsax
Is it safe to assume the long rest happens at this point?

Grabbing a few spells to fill up my ring. A leftover fog cloud will have added to it Shield, Feather Fall, and Lesser Restoration for a total of 5 levels.

There's the goblin tinkerer's short sword I will try to identify.
Finally, if there's time today I want to try and get the poison sacs from the fallen wyverns.
Raseri Whitescale
I'll get a post up tomorrow. I am beat.
Gunnar Thorstein
Need to do some math for Gunnar. How much scribing time will he have available before the battle?
Scramsax
AdamWarnock, thanks for response. I'll have to get something up tomorrow...beat from conferences all day.
Gunnar Thorstein
Gunnar spends a few active hours trying to find an auspicious place to begin his scribal work. A local ley line, perhaps a high place sacred to Thor, or maybe a forgotten temple struck by lightning.
Arcana: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Settling himself down, he begins a ritual to isolate himself from the rest of the world and anchor into the ancient magics (Freyja's Respite--Tiny Hut). Setting his Lammanian Oak Hammer with its embedded Arcane Crystal to prop up his magic shield housing Sylvia, Gunnar begins a quiet conversation with her, entreating her to take a more active role in their struggle against increasingly powerful foes by integrating herself with his Arcane Focus.
That conversation started, Gunnar spends the rest of his 8 hours scribing the spell "Fireball" into his spellbook (6 hours, 300 gp).
For his second set of 8 hours, he scribes "Phantasmal Killer" into his spellbook (8 hours, 400 gp).
For his last 8 hours prior to departing to face the hag, Gunnar meditates quietly in seclusion with Sylvia and his arcane focus, only occasionally pausing to feed Mamluk. Channeling arcane power into his valkyrie ally and praying to Thor for strength, the dwarven wizard doesn't know what to expect other than a fearsome challenge ahead.

No worries. I really should have been going to sleep a while ago anyway.

DM, any reaction from Darrell on getting the silver horn of Valhalla?
Luthael Invictusol
I was looking for suggestions on the scrying.
Perhaps the temple to have a safe place where to teleport.
Perhaps the room with the dragon egg nest to see if it being reused
I think we saw some henchmen in the last scrying, I could scry them.
Any suggestions, so we can finalize two castings by the end of today, or does Scramsax want one of those castings for his ring?
Scramsax
Scramsax took some stuff from the tower, which could be used as a anchor point for the teleport:
Suspicious Sand sample: First little room from the backdoor tunnel
Peppermint Mushroom: Approach to fart cocoa land
Store-room Token: Hidden whiskey room
2 lbs adamantine, clockworker's tools: Surgical theater
lizard doctor hand abacus, doctor's keys, 7th Bell missive, crossword scroll: ... Any of these would take us to the medical scriptorium where we rested with the stone wall.
Potion of Climbing: I believe this was from the temple of Khors but I'd have to look back over that post sometime later today.
She also scribed a small dong on the monolith overlooking the new created lake in the Margreve, which iirc was a few days travel from the tower. Thats probably too far away.
If we want something else, she would have to see it through a Scry she casts herself (I believe only the caster can see the Scry unless I'm mistaken).

I think the seen is shown on the surface of the material component
Gunnar Thorstein
Gunnar: Absolutely. Sorry, I have been on vacation and not as much time for a longer post. Will be back home tomorrow, should be able to follow up on some of the RP Friday and over the weekend.
Luthael: Who/where and when do you want to scry?
No worries—your posts are worth waiting for.
(Behind the screen—Gunnar is not being completely altruistic. He is hoping his generosity and attempted promulgation of Thor’s worship makes it more likely for a blessing to be granted him regarding Sylvia, the Valkyrie spirit during his time of meditation and solitude).
Raseri Whitescale
Arianna has Sylvia's sister in a spear, right?
As for me, I think Raseri's going to spend the time getting to know Emilee and helping Luthael learn how to wield a sword.
Scramsax
To answer Luthael's other question, I need to dig through some old posts. Having trouble finding the mysterious person escaping from the slug intersection earlier.
edit: and as usual find it after complaining about not finding it. Scramsax saw it here and told the party about it.
Almost certainly the hag and the same sled Scramsax had seen earlier before getting liver-muppetted.
Scramsax
Scram collected a slime sample that Gunnar later analyzed. So I guess that's another spot we could teleport into. An 'escape route' as Luthael put it.
Or with more risk the sled itself, by familiarity (Scram tried to purchase it from her, studying it closely).
Scramsax
Its hard to know what Scram knows and doesn't know about the chipmunk. Here's my attempt to research posts related to it and find some conclusion. Its probably incomplete.
The Chipmunk Chronicles
This seems to be a running gag that has turned into a terrible foe, and has harried the party at least on a periphery at least one time.
The genesis moment was Scram getting racked in the nuts falling onto a tree-branch on a nat 1 attack, while simultaneously fatally slipping on a chipmunk (named Dale, a wealthy inventor whose family consisted of a ballerina and the other a Zobeck university graduate. And a mate, Chip.). This was back during the fight near Nargenstal, when we had found a possible hag lair (and instead found an Ice Hyena) then promptly abandoned it for no reason (or at least none this player understands).
DM picked up the gag with Chip, who witnessed Dale's murder and dropped his nuts instantly. Pure hatred grew within the creature and he swore revenge against Scramsax.
At the battle's conclusion, the DM added a final twist. One of the totem's ectoplasmic globs landed directly into Chip's open mouth, corrupting its essence. It later awoke embued with eldritch power:
Long after all have left the scene of this terrible battle, two tiny eyes open. Twin orbs of violet light scurry along the branch. Black nose snuffles the night air. The scent is still riding upon the wind. The hated one. It beings to climb down. To begin its journey of revenge. Just at that moment it notices the length of its claws and how easily they sink deep into the hard wood of the tree. A soft chitter of excitement escapes the toothy chipmunks lips. Revenge! Revenge! Soon it will be mine. Soon! Muahahaha The thoughts burn and echo across his small but suddenly very active and much expanded mind. All must pay! All must die! The maniacal chittering echoes through the wood as the tiny orbs of light dash away south in pursuit of its quarry and the smell of roasting nuts.
Later there was a chipmunk themed trap for Scramsax, laid within a jeweled pin planted on some of the hag's goons wandering around Narg. Scram was physically transformed into a chipmunk and mentally imprisoned. From behind bars, this was the first time Scram saw Chip. From the party's perspective, Scram was mind-controlled and started singing/rhyming while throwing gold coins to everyone in town.
Then, Scram threw a bean in a temple of Khors, which turned into a statue of himself and shouted many things...among them a new moniker: Squasher of Innocent Chipmunks. Iirc, the statue itself killed someone.
At the lemonade stand, a hot halfling made her move against Scram...and was backed up by a chipmunk but only Gunnar, Scram and Attero saw it. It was attempting to kidnap a shadow-elf boy, and succeeded when Aterro had to make a choice and chose something besides pursuing it (the slave traders balloon).
But later that scene Aterro met up with the chipmunk again. This time the chipmunk was wearing a steel-clawed gauntlet and was drawing blood at the shadow-elf boy's neck. Aterro took the matter more seriously this time, speaking directly to the character, I think the first time a PC talked to it:
"Release the child, chipmunk. He has nothing for you. If you have need of a thing, address to me your concern. The path you tread on now leads only to your destruction."
The chipmunk responded:
"Haallflliiing." Is slowly drawls. It's voice high pitched. But even in the awkwardness of its slow moving common speech, Aterro can sense the fury, hatred and need for revenge dripping from each word as it emerges from its small rodent throat. "Briiinnng, me the ooonneee caalllled Ssssccraaamssssaxxxx. Hheeee mmmuuuusssttt wwittnesssss deaaath of innoooocccent assss I did. Elssse...."
I think only Aterro directly heard this. The plot was ultimately foiled, or at least carried off screen, by the giant beanstalk sprouting into existence.
Scram was later paranoid about fur-less chipmunk pirate vampires and the flammable cabin's they infested, but that turned out to be bogus. The rogue also expressed certain machinations to turn this newfound foe into a powerful weapon, creating a chipmunk grenade of sorts. It never took off.
The trail went cold for a while, something like an IRL year.
Then Scramsax was captured by the hag and saw the evil chipmunk during her dream torture/muppet metamorphosis. Coin was thus directed to kill all Chipmunks on sight, creating many an owl pellet as the party wandered the wilderness and keeping Scram's pantry (in her apartment within Ingryd's backhair) stocked with chipmunk jerky.
Luthael scryed from Stalker's Retreat and saw the chipmunk was there (with the Ice Hyena, too) and hag. Luthael just scryed again and it was still there, apparently now a sith lord high on fentanyl.
~~~
TL;DR I guess only Aterro heard the chipmunk's plot about being after Scramsax directly, but Scram and Gunnar have both seen the evil-eyed creature before at the lemonade stand. Aterro talked about the experience, but never mentioned 'the one called Scramsax' part as far as I can tell. Everyone at the Narg temple heard the 'squasher of innocent chipmunks' moniker at the temple also, and saw Scram transformed into a chipmunk that one time. Scram has seen the chipmunk in her mind almost as many times as in reality/scry.
Luthael Invictusol
Wow. That's a history.
I think we just needed to direct her to read a scene where Raseri was present. Here
Scramsax
Yeah, it was more for me. I was confused and honestly didn't know what Scram knew or didn't. Player just remembered the joke.
I completely forgot about transforming into a chipmunk, for example. Or the multiple times it appeared in Scrams mind with the hag. Or that Gunnar saw it, too.
Raseri Whitescale
And that scene happened while I was away, which explains why I didn't remember it until it was brought up.
So yeah, Raseri definitely has some questions now.
Scramsax
It would be hilarious if that chipmunk became Scram's animal companion when she becomes a fake-druid. Crossing fingers.
There's the goblin tinkerer's short sword I will try to identify.
Finally, if there's time today I want to try and get the poison sacs from the fallen wyverns.
DM-Tareth, did you want me to roll anything for either of those, sword or sacs?
DM - Tareth
DM-Tareth, did you want me to roll anything for either of those, sword or sacs?
No need to roll for the sword. It is just a normal short sword. No magic. For the poison sac from the one fallen wyvern, go ahead and make a Survival or Nature check vs DC10 to successfully remove the glands and extract some poison.
Scramsax
As far as where to teleport, I suppose Scram would vote for the slime path. Its a known exit route the hag takes, even though I guess she came back (in between Scram seeing her leave, and the first of Luthael's scrys). That would put use near the shrine also.
Scramsax
To answer Luthael about 'how close', I (player) am pretty sure Scram doesn't know that room. It sounds like an aviary, which I don't remember coming across. Maybe Scram does...? (DM?)
Luthael Invictusol
Did we see enough of it during the hag show to teleport there?
Scramsax
For me the aviary sounds like:
"Viewed once" is a place you have seen once, possibly using magic.
That would give us some pretty crappy chances:
01-43 44-53 54-73 74-100
That is Mishap, Similar Area, Off Target, On Target respectively. Even Off Target is pretty nasty, with a d10*d10 percentage of distance traveled off.
I think the slug intersection (with associated object) would be better, then just running up through Khors temple which led to egg room (and beyond presumably).
edit: Or, if Luthael scrys again tomorrow Scram could cast Teleport 'while viewing' that spot for 75% chance On Target.
Luthael Invictusol
Might be a worth a 5th level Scrying slot to teleport there. But I defer to consensus
Scramsax
Scram would be willing to take the 25% risk to skip the unexplored chambers linking the known with aviary and save Vee faster. More risk than that though with a mere 'Viewed Once' I don't know...I think we have to wait for the second long rest anyways.
Scramsax
Another thing, using the scry boosted teleport I guess if we failed the initial d100 (rolled 01-24) or below we could instantly try another two times unless it was a serious mishap.
Ingryd, Gunnar, Raseri? The risk again is ending up miles away from the tower, or 'anywhere on the plane' that is similar in theme to a hag's tower, or taking direct damage. The benefit would be skipping the interim chambers we never explored, which have presumably had their defenses bolstered to slow us down.
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Didn’t someone prepare Sending? We could let the dragon know what is going on—hostages on the top level, foes starting to flee the mountain, etc. She is an upset and vengeful mother, but she is also cunning, and should be more inclined to kill the hag than just bust up her lair.
Luthael Invictusol
Luthael can cast the Sending immediately after the Long Rest. Did we ever get the name of this dragon?
Raseri Whitescale
Raseri can also prepare sending, but I think I'll be mostly going to stuff that can lay down some hurt or keep the hag form escaping.
Just to clarify, we are taking a long rest then bamfing to the Hag's lair, right?
Scramsax
Yes, Scram used all his teleportation from the first rest to steal Darrel's whiskey for Ingryd, visit Narg and the girls, etc so we have to rest twice. The double was originally just based on what the dragon had said, but now after scrying the stakes have increased with people we care about needing rescued before the DragonStrike(TM).
Scramsax
Yes and hopefully the dragon and his muppet-loving spawn are also slain in the process.
Gunnar Thorstein
Gunnar is fine with that. I recall Luthael planning to prepare sending in the morning after the egg recovery—at that point, we thought we were going to have to use it to inform the dragon we had saved her eggs.
Gunnar just wants our hard-won ally to be kept in the loop so the hag can’t twist the situation into using our new dragon ally against us.
Luthael Invictusol
I’ll get a post up for the Sending. I vote to teleport to our friends and family. So we can teleport them out.
Scramsax
Options for destination at this point seem to be directly into the aviary, or 5 ft above it. I'm fine with either of those.
..ninjad, yes getting them out instantly should be possible. Scram has a platter she needs to return to Britta, and could grab something to use as anchor while in the aviary so she could return.
I guess that assumes Gunnar's Inspiration doesn't reveal its a hag-cacklin' trick of some sort.
Gunnar Thorstein
Yes, I am keen to know if Gunnar’s investigation turned up anything!
