Game Master Lia Wynn

A player-driven campaign set in Golarion.

Having thought about it, here's my ruling on optional rules:

We will only be using FA.

But, there will be two limitations:

1. A character may only have 1 MCD. They may have more than one archetype, following the normal you need a total of 3 feats before switching. But, if you do take more than one, only one can be an MCD.

2. Captain, from Battlecry! is off the table. Not because it's bad or I don't like it. I actually think it's well-made. But it also adds a degree of complexity and bookkeeping I don't want to deal with for this game and format.

If, down the road, people want to make a case to change either of these, I'll be willing to listen. It may turn out, for instance, that the narrative for a player really needs a second MCD that can't be covered by one of the hundreds of other archetypes, and in that case, I'd be willing to revisit this.

For character planning:

The game will start in Absalom.

However, the first arc will take place in Brevoy. A series of earthquakes and tsunamis in the Lake of Mist and Veils after the Godsrain has, among other things, exposed long-forgotten ruins and caverns, and the group will be hired to explore one of those.

Oooooh. Love that as an entry point for the game. Sweet.
* Runs off to work on his Ranger *

Lia, your input, please. As the summoner has not gained a remastered update yet. Since the new remastered dragons are categorized by the magic traditons and the dragon eidolon is a conspirator dragon (an occult dragon), do you want the type of dragon to determine the spell tradition the summoner gains spells from?

My educated guess is that when Paizo updates the summoner to remastered, that the spell tradition a dragon eidolon summoner uses will depend on the type of dragon selected, similar to how the new remastered dragon types are used for some of the ancestry feats for the Dragonblood versatile heritage. The remastered sorcerer draconic bloodline's spell tradition is variable, which depends on which of the remastered dragon types is chosen, so it makes sense that a remastered version of dragon eidolon would do the same change.

Without Ancestry Paragon variant rule being used, she will not have Adapted Cantrip (primal tradition- Healing Plaster) as one of her cantrips at 1st level. If using the occult tradition instead of the arcane tradition, Soothe will be one of the spells in her spell repertoire.

The occult tradition fits the character concept better, as (unknown to her) she is an direct descendant of the (conspirator) dragon eidolon.

I'll get to work on Myrp. I like Ancestral Paragon... but to be honest there aren't a lot of exciting options for Poppets anyway. :-)

So, starting Absalom works. Given that, unless there is a conflict in the group, I was think of making him a member of the Pathfinder Society. The Scrollmaster archetype fits well and his thirst for knowledge fits as well. Yeah, he is either naive of or ignoring all the issues in the group's history, he just wants to learn.

Here is the image that inspired this character.

Secre-tengu? :P

Got the basics of my character down. I plan on using Sorcerer (Draconic, natch!) as my MC Archetype in the future. Still hammering out her details but the basics is that she grew up in The Puddles district of Absalom, and was inspired by the Consulate of the Platinum Band until she was able to join as a member. Lia, are you okay with using the old-fashioned dragons as a Draconic Exemplar? I was specifically interested in using the Bronze dragon giving her bronze-ish scales with some green "patina" on the edges, which is why she's got features related to swimming and stuff.

That is an AWESOME Tengu portrait! I already want to adventure with the guy...

@J Scot Shady: Pathfinder Society has no conflict with my character.

I like the artwork that inspired your character.

My summoner's 2nd level feats will be FA (exemplar - scar of the survivor, as mentioned in a previous post) and the class feat will be Dual Studies:

Athletics for the dragon - who's primary eidolon unarmed attack is Tail (with the Trip trait), so during 1st level he is still getting accustomed to his (once again) new eidolon body.

Acrobatics for the summoner - and will be gaining Quick Squeeze as the 2nd level skill feat.

Her ethnicity is Tian-Sing (one of the two Tian ethnicities that are described as "Even among the generally thin and narrow-bodied Tians, the Tian-Dan and Tian-Sing frequently appear particularly skinny even when well-fed." She is 4'10" and 75 lbs.

She is from the Shackles - going to reread up on the two main areas of the Shackles that Tian-Sing live (Senchu Bay and the Ushinawa Isles) to decide which area she is from.

The dragon eidolon will be significantly larger than the summoner's petite frame.

Here you go tineye search

The first name of the artist can be see on the artwork though I could not tell if the last name was fully shown and whether or not it has a P or R after the K. The artist's name is Christina Kraus.

@PD:

My first thought was the Shackles for the first arc, but when I was looking through the WoI gazeteer, the entry for Brevoy basically matched what the group thought would be a good start, so Brevoy it is!

@Drake:

Yes, that sounds reasonable that the magical tradition of the Dragon, given the new ties to traditions with the Remastered Dragons, could be the same one the summoner gets, so Occult is approved.

@Zousha:

Yes, that would also be fine. Mengkare is still a gold dragon after all, so using older dragon things is not an issue for me at all.

@J Scot:

Yes, it's fine if your tengu is a member of PFS. I don't know how often it will come up as a point of emphasis, but who knows, it just might.

So, we have a ranger, a summoner, a cloistered? cleric, and a bard so far, if I am reading correctly.

Scranford, were you also going to be a summoner or take a different direction?

If Dr. Evil goes bard or rogue, this group might have some unique ways to approach problems, and that could be interesting.

I think Myrp will stick with Psychic. I see that over time the visiting children... and Master Glynn had slowly been seeping into his consciousness even though he wasn't awakened yet. When Master Glynn passed on his spark of life went into Myrp.

Distant grasp as his Conscious mind and Precise discipline as his subconscious mind. He sat for decades and when he awakened with Master Glynn's ghost those things were easier for him to grasp.

As he develops more confidence, he'll FA into "Inventor" to cover the combo's ability to craft toys and things.

Here is is preliminary build.
Myrp

I have decided to go with her being from Ushinawa Isles. Her mother is a geisha and assistant to school's head instructor, Kazumi Nanbatwa, at the Petal Seminary school in the town of Zeibo.

The identity of my character's father is not known. Her father is part of the direct descendant line from the conspirator dragon.

@J Scot Shady:

From write-up for Ushinawa Isles from Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Isles of the Shackles: "A surprising number of tengus for whom the seagoing life has lost its allure have also retired to these islands, typically tending shops and taverns or working the docks."

Would you like your tengu to be from there as well with our characters having grown up together and (when your tengu was old enough to apply for Pathfinder training at the Grand Lodge) traveled from there to Absalom? Your tengu could have been studying at the Pathfinder Society's Grand Lodge while the summoner continued on to Iblydos.

The summoner (at the urging of the eidolon) traveled from Absalom to Iblydos and the dragon discovered the secret hoard of items he had there was discovered long ago and no items remained. With that their next path was back to Absalom (if already have ties to some of the other PCS) before heading up north to the Lake of Mists and Veils.

@Lia:

I have not come up with the summoner's name yet or the conspirator dragon's current alias yet. As for the dragon's actual name (which the summoner does not know - I would like to have you be the only one who knows it (not even I know it - so you can add that to your potential 'plot mysteries', if you are okay with this suggestion.

Working with one of my previous suggestions, maybe the conspirator dragon eidolon has a desire to get to the Lakes of Mists and Veils since the news of what recently discovered makes him want to get to another hoard of his that is connected to the newly discovered caverns.

I'll go over builds as they are finished and give any thoughts on a build then.

@Drake:

I was thinking something along those lines myself.

Working on my Half-Orc (Dromaar) Ranger, atm, and wanted to run something by ya, Lia. I'm pretty sure it'll be ok, but, how would you feel about me taking Brevic Noble as a background? I stumbled across it while looking up Brevoy, and it feels right...so long as you approve it, that is. Being less than full-blooded human, he's sort of the black sheep, and while not being chased off with pitchforks, the family is happier when he's ...elsewhere.
(Also it's called Kingdom Noble (Wilderness) in Pathbuilder.

Still a work in progress, but here's where I'm at on him, at the moment.
Khalaros Medvyed I'm open to thoughts on him, especially since I've never really played a 2e Ranger. I'm currently debating between a Bird (Peregrine Hawk) or a Wolf Animal companion. Can't decide.

Would you be okay if I made Brevic sword fighter in the tradition of the Aldori swordlords? He would be melee based, and perhaps take swashbuckler archetype, or perhaps another melee supportive choice.

If it works, I could be the person coming to Absalom to hire help to explore the situation in my homeland (hometown?).

ideally, a minor noble whose father sided with the wrong faction in the never ceasing game of thrones and political intrigue in Brevoy, he looks to regain his lost title, land, and home and restore his family honor. He will be vain, proud, and aloof, but brave, loyal, and willing to throw himself into the front lines and defend companions to help restore his family's lost honor and further his own ambition to be powerful enough to wrest his name back, even if by force.

Oh, and FYI, I will traveling this weekend tomorrow through Monday. Hopefully will be able to keep up and post in here and there but may not get the opportunity as much as I'd like.

Plastic Dragon wrote:

You can (eventually) have both!

This is the archetype for such builds: Beastmaster The archetype gives the potential to have up to 4 animal companions, though only one of them is the current active animal companion. There is 1 minute exploration activity for another animal companion to 'tag in' as the active animal companion.

There is a 6th level archetype feat that lets you swap out animal companions as free action that is triggered by rolling initiative.

There is a 16th level archetype feat that lets you have two animal companions active at the same time (though together they use the action economy of having a single active animal companion).

The archetype also has a 20th level capstone ability that emulates a very effective pack attack from the two active animal companions and the beastmaster.

While the Beastmaster archetype gives the potential for a character to have up to four animal companions, another archetype that allows a characcter to have two animal companions is the Mammoth Lord. A Beastmaster/Mammoth Lord character has a potential to have up to 4 animal companions, with the one gained from the Mammoth Lord archetype being a megafauna animal companion.

Note, that the Mammoth Lord archetype is uncommon - it is from the AP that takes place in the Realm of the Mammoth Lords, so check with Lia if she would allow it.

In regard to the twin questions about Brevoy'ish pasts.

Yes, PD, that's fine. It seems to me that the only reason it's rare is that it's from an AP. There's nothing concerning about it from any sort of balance reason. However, it could - and I am not saying that it will, just that it could - lead to complications if you encounter nobles of other houses. Brevoy is, after all, a land of pretty cut-throat politics.

That may not come up at all! But, I'd rather bring it up in advance than catch you off guard if it does come up and you had not expected it.

Dr. Evil, were you considering taking the Aldori Duelist archetype? It just got touched up in Battlecry!, and is on Nethys, too. Or were you planning to use it, or are you thinking more that he would be a swordsman who tends to try and act like an Aldori swordlord?

Either way, it's fine. I just want to make sure I understand what you're going for, and the same note as for PD applies in that case to you as well.

For expectation management, I'm not seeing the first arc as anyplace being directly in danger, and instead more along the lines of: place uncovered, groups are going to explore it, and you'll be dealing with those groups, should you encounter them, and anything that is already there.

Now, actions from your group - or others - could lead to locals being threatened, but at the start, it's more of a delve into the unknown as opposed to saving a town from baddies.

As for Mammoth Lord, since Drake did bring it up, if I said yes to that would depend on how things go in the game. If you never encounter a mammoth, you won't be able to get one as a pet, but in general, if it makes sense narratively, I'm pretty likely to approve it.

I'll write a little short story about this when I get some downtime... but here are some bullet points about Myrp.

"The weeks after Master Glynn's passing"

* Myrp was scared. The Master was gone, and he was left with the cats at night... until they all disappeared one night.
* He never liked Master Glynn's son (Fredrick). He was mean and never helped Master Glynn even when asked. When his mother died giving birth to his sister (Matilda) he became unbearable... but Master Glynn always got him out of his frequent bouts with trouble. Matilda simply stayed out of things as her personality was one of submission.
* In the months before Master Glynn's passing a rich nobles spoiled daughter(I'll search the Absalom book for a fitting foil) constantly badgered her father to buy Myrp for her, but Master Glynn refused to sell. Instead, he offered to make a fabulous mechanical pony for her... His Magnus Opus.
* Days after his death Fredrick opened the doors to the shop and sold everything in it... including Myrp.
* The spoiled rich girl was overcome with joy when her father brought Myrp home... and elated when the incomplete mechanical horse was brought as well... not so much when she discovered it didn't work...yet.
* As Master Glynn expected the little girl played with Myrp for about a week before he ended up in a toy box with all the other unacknowledged and forgotten toys. The horse ended up in the backyard shed to be dispensed of later.
* Myrp began to gain control of himself in that brief period though he pretended to be just a toy until the little girl slept. He then walked about the house learning about life... how to speak... and realizing his psychic powers. The housekeeping staff often wondered how Myrp kept ending up in the most unusual places and were slowly being convinced he was haunted.
* Finally, one night the girl accidently left her window open and Myrp took his chance to escape. Since then (three weeks ago) he had been moving from one place to another sometimes spending the evening with some of the poor children he remembered... sometimes holing up in Master Glynn's shop.
* Yesterday the new owner of the shop space came by and started throwing out everything Myrp was familiar with in the alley out back including Myrp. He gathered up a large pair of sheers, a few outfits, one of the bottles of elixir that Master Glynn took when he had his chest pains, and almost as an afterthought the heavy steel base that was used to support him in the window (Steel Shield).
* Something inside him gave him at least an immediate goal... find the mechanical horse (Unicorn) and finish the work he... I mean Master Glynn had started then see what the future offered.
* He stepped into the ally and stood in the street. What now.

Myrp is a mixture of unfamiliarity and wonder. He is innocent and not a good judge of people and social situations. But he wants to have friends that he can adopt as a family and will go tout of his way to help and protect them. He jumps at any chance to learn and experience new things.

And that's part of the fun, right? I'm a big believer in characters dealing with what comes their way, especially if it's part of their backstory. He won't be seriously ACTIVE in politics amd looking for a conflict there, but should "House" interactions come into play...so be it.

This could definitely work. I was already looking down the line of him being from Tian Xia at birth and coming to Absalom with family. Likely could have a stop in the Shackles, and have the family be part of the sailors who found the settlement. Obviously not his parents (he's not that old) but sometime the 200 or so years.

Interestingly enough, given the connection you were establishing with a "dragon" I was figuring my nephilim heritage actually comes from an ancient imperial dragon (as they are connected to the Celestial Court). Explains the distortion in appearance to be more like a predatory bird (dragons being ultimate predators). I wasn't thinking it would be the same dragon nor was I intending this to be a presence in the characters story, just it explains his backstory and provides a connection to you.

Yes, I would take Aldori Duelist archetype. Was looking into a bit after I posted. Have not yet decided if SW or Fighter is the right base class, but kinda leaning towards swashbuckler for the cinematic moments using panache etc.

Any thoughts?

The swashbuckler panache cinematic moments! :D

@J Scot Shady.

Cool. I am about to watch a movie with a friend. Will post more later today.

Have you decided what part of Tian Xia your tengu's ancestors are from?

My summoner's (Tian) ancestors are from Minata (I still want to read up on Minata for the specific area her ancestors are from.

Just an observation: This really DOES feel like sitting around the table making characters for a new campaign. Well done, Lia.

Depends on if you want to be Frontline fighting, I suppose. Though, in the end, I agree with Drake on this.

@Myrp: Great backstory. Question: As the group won't be hanging around Absalom, will he be ok with not being able to get to/work on the mechanical pony for a while? Clearly, a mid-range goal could be to get the money to buy it from the noble family upon a return to Absalom.

@Dr. Evil: I would echo that a swashbuckler can be great for cinematic moments. Obviously, a fighter is always a good class mechanically, but a swashbuckler feels more in line with the story you seem to be going for.

@PD: I think the credit for the process goes to all of you more than it does to me. But, I will still take the complimentent!

Myrp planned on stealing the pony (Medium Sized) from the noble before leaving Absalom. Then at second level he was FA into Inventor, and the pony was to become his Construct Companion.

I think further down the feat tree there is something that lets you ride your companion... but until then he's a normal Inventors companion.

Swashbuckler it is. Panache is his middle name...

Will add the Aldori archetype at 2nd level. Ideally light armor but high dex and some abilities that add to survivability later.

@Dr. Evil: Two questions. What subclass do you plan to use, since I didn't see that in the mini profile. Also, where is Exacting Strike coming from, as it seems to be just a fighter feat?

@Myrp: That's something you should discuss with the group. Stealing a mechanical horse from a noble right before a 1400-mile trip might not be something everyone is ok with. I'm not saying it can't happen. I am saying something that could both have group repercussions and be a logistical factor, should be bounced off of everyone.

Per my bullet points the horse had already been sent to the shed to be dispensed of later. I guess he could wait till it went from the garbage to the junkyard. Not really a big deal either way as it won't come into play right away. I had imagined he disassembled (If it's not already) the horse and hauled it around in a wagon.

I'm good with just waiting till he takes the FA to begin assembly, was just tying it to Myrp's limited history and knowledge of the world.

Could simply be "locked away" in that shed? Maybe Myrp steals the keys to the shed? Far less likely to put anyone on alert if they simply can't find the keys. Or maybe the unicorn is hidden in a secret chamber of some sort? Or at another location altogether, using the aforementioned wagon?

Besides, having the "Quest for the Clockwork Unicorn" as a thing to do for the group after our initial arc...or at least when we level up for Archetypes...that could be fun.

May I present Dobu-tsuen Chishik, nephilim tengu bard from The Sublime Shogunate of Ushinawa and agent-in-training of The Pathfinder Society.

I am still working on the backstory, trying to be detailed but not write a whole novel. The simple beats are that he was born and raise in The Ushinawa Isles, the descendent of generations of retired sailors going all the way back to Minkai. He was a natural bookworm and never took to the sea much, and when he met a member of the Pathfinder Society, he jumped at the chance to study with them.

There are still many details to come, but for tonight, this is what I got so far.

Khakrios and Dobu look fine.

Dobu, you are aware that Sure Strike is a once-per-10-minute spell now, right? You probably are, but I want to make sure in advance just to prevent any surprises later.

Re: the horse. To be clear, I am not against the theft of the mechanical horse. It would even be an off-screen thing, with the theft automatically being successful. I just wanted two things:

1. For the group to be able to weigh in on something that might be a later complication (and it very well may *not* be);

2. To make you, Myrp, and everyone else aware that dragging a mechanical horse on a 1400-mile trip could very well lead to complications, in the same vein as warning both Brevic PCs that their backgrounds could also lead to complications.

But, in no way am I saying that I am against the horse being taken, or anything else. I think it's a wonderful narrative decision.

I have worked out some of the backstory now, but while working on it I have found a few things didn't fit mechanically with the story.

The main change was the Occult Librarian background. The name fit, but it seemed more fitting for someone focused on cults and not on creatures. Then it dawned on me, that I didn't look at anything related to the Society. I found the Pathfinder Hopeful background.

So I switched that, and rebalanced some skills because of it. Also, now he has Additional Lore as his skill feat. This meant I had to figure out what lore to take. I settled on Serpent lore for now. It seemed fitting since bird and snakes are often seen as enemies (they do often predate each other). Add that with the Ghol-gan empire being opposed to the Serpentfolk empires, it seemed kind of fitting. And maybe, it will inspire Lia in some ways.

So, still working on the story and will add more later tonight or tomorrow.

Starting at 6th level, she will be able to Treat Wounds every 10 minutes sans healing kit (via Healing Plaster) - provided there is dirt/mud nearby (if her 'medicinal mud' bag is empty).

Dragon Eidolon:

As the dragon eidolon repeats the cycle with a new blood descendant at some point after his previous descendant has passed on, the following represents the level progression the dragon eidolon takes during each 'lifetime'

Cunning Dragon Ability Array (Str +1, Dex +4, Con +1, Int +2, Wis +0, Cha +1)
5th level boosts to Con (+2), Int (+3), Wis (+1), Cha (+2)
10th level boosts to Str (+2), Int (+4), Wis (+2), Cha (+3) The dragon eidolon becomes large at 10th and huge at 12th level via summoner feats.
15th level boosts to Str (+3), Int (+4 1/2), Wis (+3), Cha (+4)
17th ability boost: Int (+5 1/2)
20th ability boosts: Str (+4), Con (+3), Int (+6), Wis (+4)

Primary unarmed strike: Tail 1d8 Bludgeoning (Trip) Much easier to gain answers from someone that is still alive, and for others, making them prone can speed up how quickly they can be dealth with.

Secondary unarmed strike: Claw 1d6 Slashing (Agile, Finesse)

Summoner Feats:

1st level: evolution feat: Glider Form

1st level (via Natural Ambition ancestry feat): Meld into Eidolon

2nd level: Dual Studies (Acrobatics for summoner, Athletics for eidolon)

4th level: Skilled Partner (1st level skill feat: Arcane Sense; 2nd level skill feat: Titan Wrestler) (at 7th level gains Assurance (Athletics)

6th level: Magical Understudy (cantrips: Read Aura, Sigil) The dragon's sigil mark is the mark he places on the items of his hoards (twice per item - one visible and one invisible) as well as (storyline combined with summoner/eidolon sigil connection) an invisible one on his current descendant who is the current summoner he is bonded with. The dragon also places an invisible copy of his sigil on relatives of his current bonded summoner descendant - which can make it easier to track his ongoing bloodline descendants. While the visible sigil mark on his items might be removed by others, it is the invisible sigils that most new owners of the items that were once part of one his hoards that lets the dragon know if an item once part of his hoard of magic items.

8th: Magical Adept (1st level spell: Charm; 2nd level spell: Humanoid Form) I used the conspirator dragon innate spells and ability to shapechange into humanoid form as the guiding force for choosing the innate spells. At 10th level, she swaps out the 2nd level humanoid form for the 3rd level version; At 12th level, he swaps out the 1st Charm for the 4th level Cham; At 14th level, he swaps out the 3rd level version of Humanoid Form for the 5th level version; at 16th level he does not swap out a spell. At 18th level he gains the Magical Master feat.

10th: Hulking Size (large size)

12th: Towering Size (huge size)

14th: Airborne Form

16th: Ever-vigilant Senses

18th: Magical Master (1st level spell: Charm; 2nd level spell: Humanoid Form; 3rd level spell: Mind Reading; 4th level spell: Rewrite Memory; 5th level spell: Mind Probe; 6th level spell: Dominate; 7th level spell: Dragon Form) All spells (aside Dragon Form and Humanoid Form) are innate spells of conspirator dragons, and Humanoid Form to gain limited at-will ability it had in is first life to assume humanoid forms.

20th: True Transmogrification (The dragon gains the ability to be akin to the powerful cunning trickster and planner he was in his original life).

Ancestry Feats:

1st: Natural Ambion (Meld into Eidolon)

3rd (gained via Ancestral Paragon general feat): Adapted Cantrip (divine list, Healing Plaster). At 4th level will swap out Detect Magic for Healing Plaster. Will still have Detect Magic via the Arcane Sense skill feat gained at 4th level. Divine list working with dragon eidolon is a potential source of exemplar power source.

5th: possibly Draconic Scent

9th: possibly Multi-talented

13th: Draconic Veil

17th: Form of the Dragon

skill feats & skill increases:

2nd: Quick Squeeze
3rd: Medicine (E)

Starigati (pronounced Star-ee-gat-tee)

"Stari" to her friends.

Pathbuilder Sheet

Hero Forge mini of Starigati

Going to read up the entries for Minata before deciding on the name that the eidolon gives as his name.

Player knowledge: the cunning dragon might at some point allude to being part of Starigati's Tian ancestors (using a bit of truth to make a falsehood seem true). This is a cunning tactic the dragon does - so whenever the dragon's current bonded summoner figures out that they are a descendant of the dragon, they believe the dragon is an ancestor of a specific parent of theirs, when it is the other parent that is the direct bloodline descendant of the dragon.

Brief 'snapshot' of backstory, which I still need to flesh out more than this tidbit.

Spoiler:

While at the river by herself, washing clothing and linen for the geisha bardic school, she had her first period. This did not surprise her as her mother had already educated her regarding puberty changes. What her mother did not tell her was that you would start to hear voices in your head.

<"Do you want to live in this place your whole life or would you like to see the world, child?">

"Who's there? Stop hiding and come where I can see you." Starigati told whoever just spoke to her.

<"You want to see me, child? Are you sure?">

"Yes"

<"As you wish, child. Look at your reflection in the water and you will see me.">

A bit confused at how someone under the surface of the water could be speaking so clearly, Starigati, looked at the water and saw her reflection, and then saw the face of a dragon emerging from her own face, until her face was no longer visible, "Now that you have seen me, answer my question, child. Would you like to see the world or do you want to spend your life on this island?"

Seeing the dragon's mouth move as it talked, the voice was much deeper than it was before. <"My friend Dobu plans to travel to Absolom to become a Pathfinder."> Her own voice sounded different. <"Why does my voice sound different?">

The reflection of the dragon, her reflection...spoke again, "We have a bond, child, and while you host me others cannot see or hear me, and when we swap places, others can see me but not see or hear you. Would you like to travel with your friend?"

Still not fully comprehending what exactly was happening, Starigati answered the question truthfully, <"It would be fun to accompany Dobu, but I do not have any interest in becoming a Pathfinder. He would be studying at their Grand Lodge for years. What would I do while he is enrolled at the Pathfinder school?">

"Finding hidden treasures."

<"We would need a treaure map for that.">

"No we do not. For I was the one who buried the treasure."

<"This is the Shackles. Chances are any treasure you buried here might have been discovered by a pirate already.">

"The first treasure we would be digging up is not in The Shackles. It is in Iblydos. So, I ask again, child. Do you want to spend your life here or become a treasure hunter?"

Starigati ponders the question for a few minutes, <"Becoming a treasure hunter could be fun, but if Dobi needs my help or wants me to accompany him, for his travel to Absalom and his travels from there after his time training at the Grand Lodge, I would want that to take precedent over finding your treasure. Is that okay?>

The dragon smiles, "Those are acceptable terms, Starigati. Do you want to secure our pact?"

<"Not yet. I want Dobi to benefit from the magic items from your treasure as well.">

"That is acceptable, Starigati. Any other terms you want to add?"

<"Would we need more than you and me to uncover your treasure?>

"We should not for the treasure I hid in Iblydos. For some of the other treasures I hid, we might need to ally ourselves with a few others to retrive my treasures."

<"Then in addition to Dobi, any allies that help us should each get an item from each of the buried treasures they help us retrieve.">

"There are certain items that are to remain mine, as well as certain items you are to take posession of. As for the rest, I can wait another century or two before reacquiring them after your friend and our future allies have benefitted from having them during their lifetimes. Are you satisfied with the terms, Starigati?"

<"Yes.">

Starigati sees the reflection of the dragon lift its right front leg from the water and bring its claw to its face and start to rend into its scales below its right eye, Starigati can feel the pain of the flesh under her right eye being shredded, "We are now bonded. It is time to start your magic lessons. The first lesson is to heal the pain of our pact wound, though the scar will remain. This scar is more than just a symbol of our pact. In time it will gain the power to mend any other wounds you...I...we gain."

Starigati watches as the reflection of the dragon recedes, as her own face seems to emerge out of the dragon's head, though unlike the dragon's head, the size of her head never changes in size as the dragon's size gets smaller until it vanishes within Starigati's own reflection.

The dragon instructs Starigati how to cast the Soothe spell, and the pain goes away, but the scars below her right eye remain.

<"Would you like to suprise your friend Dobi that you are now a spellcaster too?">

Starigati smiles.

@Stari:

Firstly, I like the mini look. I was actually thinking about doing that for my cloistered cleric in one of Dr. Evil's games.

Second, while I like the whole build plan, I'm not going to lock you into it, so that if story elements make you think 'Feat X' makes more sense than the plan, you can make that decision as you level. I'm also going to have to brush up on Meld as my summoner in my FTF game doesn't use that feat.

Finally, yeah, until you are actually doing Spirit damage with an Ikon, Energized Spark would do nothing. However, Vow of Mortal Defiance could be something interesting to take at 6, as it does not require a weapon Ikon, and it does not look like Stari will be sanctified.

A couple of comments real quick.

Stari, I looked over Meld, and I have to say I'm curious to see how it actually works in-game. It looks like it gives up the 4 actions per turn a Summoner effectively gets, and doesn't give that much in return. I'm very interested to see if that actually holds true, or if gives more in play than it seems to.

To the group, something you want to start to consider is healing, both in and out of combat.

You have very limited healing options at this point. That is not a bad thing! But you will need to start considering your plans for how you'll work around it.

I want to emphasize I am not saying 'OMG, someone must be a cleric' or 'You all need to get medicine.' What I am saying is during this session 0, which will hopefully move to session 1 within a week, that some chatter and planning around this happens.

On that note, I'm considering a change...c o n s i d e r i n g...not a threat here...to Druid rather than Ranger. Khalaros' primary function is the ability to survive in the wild and to help guide his companions through whatever environs they find themselves in. With Drake's suggestion regarding animal companions, I've taken that on...all of which could be covered by a Druid as well as a Ranger, as well as addressing some of the healing issues, methinks. I'm currently reading through the Druid class to see what's what. I'll get back to you on it.

I'm open to opinions on it.

Druid adds a bit more flexibility and healing ability. Looks like you can keep most of the features of Beastmaster, and perhaps add some. I support that idea, if you want to shift, but no pressure.
