Yes, same. Real life can be tough—do what you need to for you and your family.

Sounds overwhelming, hope you can find peace of mind somewhere in all the turmoil.

Thanks, I appreciate. I know that may sound trite, but I really do.

He proudly displays the silver coil souvenir along with a single flawless diamond buried deep in the central heart of the device. Nearly the size of his thumb, the round cut stone glitters brilliantly in the setting light of the sun.
When Scram grabbed that patriarch's coil there was also a diamond. I just spent a while looking for an appraisal and I don't think I ever did one. There was a ton of loot from the wreckage and I think it was overlooked.
Jeweler's Tools: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
But that would make 2 diamonds for spell components.

I've got some good news. My nana should be out of the hospital and going to the rehab center this afternoon.
Raseri Whitescale |
It was also great to hear!
@GM: Any reaction from the Margreve, I was waiting on that before posting.
Luthael Invictusol |
@Tareth Luthael is waiting for a response from the sword, too.
cheers

So, DM, I was thinking about looking for a fallen ash, yew, or thorn tree that she could harvest the wood from. A maple or oak would also work. Are there any near the shore or will Raseri have to swim out
And given that Elm is known as a widow-maker for dropping branches on the heads of the unwary and Hemlock is known for poisoning people, I figure the Spear of Purification and Justice would loath having a haft made of either.
Also, if the spear doesn't have a name, would you mind if I gave it one? Is there any particular feeling to it, like hot or cold? Anything about the aura the spearhead gives off that Gunnar could convey?
Lastly, and this is for everyone, does anyone have anything that Raseri can use to make the ferrule for the butt end of the spear's haft, or both ends if the spearhead doesn't socket onto the haft and some tools she can borrow? She's got nothing besides her seax that she can use.
Scramsax |
Caveat I don't know what was destroyed by the rust, and shudder to think about it.
But Scram has that blessed silver horseshoe he and Invictusol made at Invictusol's mom's house. It was at one point the demonic unholy symbol for one of the slaver gnomes from Arianna's story arc.
Also a solid silver solenoid coil from the patriarch's device, which I imagine is like a big transformer that once held a diamond for its core to increase its magnetic permeability or some such arcano-tech babble. Zap it with lightning and it should be an electromagnet. :)
For tools she has (hopefully still...) jeweler's tools, 3 sets of thieves tools, 1 set of improvised thieves tools (which is a bunch of Radovar's robot crafting stuff), and of course a crowbar.
Raseri Whitescale |
Okay, so add some tools so Ras can actually do some of the stuff she likes to do to the list of stuff she's looking for.
Gunnar Thorstein |
Gunnar has Smith’s Tools and is also proficient in them. You may not know, but that was his pre-adventuring profession. He is happy to help.
Raseri Whitescale |
Woo! Now if only we had the materials we needed to forge herself a set of tools for each of her profeciencies.
Scramsax |
Have we always known the sword was a holy relic of Khors? I forgot that detail if so.
DM - Tareth |
I believe so. Not sure if it was ever called a 'relic' but it was certainly crafted by and for followers of Khors. However, it was a relic of the Inquisition which is now discredited and not openly worshiped. So certainly not of the same Khorish vein that Luthael and most folk would be following now.
Raseri Whitescale |
More like an unholy relic, but yep, y'all have known it since day 1.

I got some good news about my grandmothers.
My maternal grandmother is out of the hospital and undergoing rehabilitation. Unless something drastic happens, she'll be 96 tomorrow.
My paternal grandmother is more lucid and able to speak clearly again. She's still got some short-term memory problems and is bed-bound, but this is still an improvement from the last time I saw her, even if she's not likely to get any better.
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. I appreciate every single one of them.
Luthael Invictusol |
Lost track during the RP, did we long rest?
Scramsax |
Obviously the thief would select the shadowy route, too.
But here is what we've been told:
"The tower sits high upon a lonely crag of rock where the winds howl and the clouds constantly dance with the parapets. The path up is a treacherous stairway carved out of the stone by shackled hands many of which fell to their doom during the making of that place. Many are the bones that litter the valley beneath that place. Many are the hate filled spirits that lurk in the shadows and crannies." He shakes his head. "To ascend the stairs directly, is a days climb. Perhaps a bit more. All the while, observers from above can watch your progress, hamper it should they so desire."
Then there is the fact that we paid for, but the fox never gave information about, the alternative route.

Just so I'm clear. I absolutely love Scramsax and have zero issues with mishima. Just having some fun with banter. :)

Ditto, if it needs to be said. I know you love this kind of party banter. ;) I like the back and forth between these two with a tinge of conflict.
Of course Scram is totally stealing Heidur and giving the sapphire orb back to Illarya one day though. xD
Nothing but love for you, Adam. Always a pleasure to read your thoughtful posts, I genuinely enjoy your writing, and would play a game with you any day. *hugs*
...and along those lines, yeah, I know sometimes I'm asking for it. I do want Scram to be a no good dirty scoundrel, and I get nervous when the DM thinks Scramsax is actually gentle hearted in the final analysis, hehe. ;)

Oh, Scram won't have to steal Heidur for that. Raseri wants that orb out of her sword, pronto!
And same here, I'd play at a table with you any day. *returns hug*

No that would be Ingryd, thinking Scram like a younger sibling or stand in child
Raseri Whitescale |
Scram's a thief with a heart of gold, somewhere in there anyway.

Ha, lets not get carried away. The lies he/she has got away with have shaped the party's perception of the thief as much as the lies he/she didn't get away with...
I'd like to explore some other sides of Scram with Vee and Illarya and answer the question 'what would it take to betray them'.
If we were to use the old school alignments, I would put him/her just north of neutral evil at true neutral in terms of what I am going for. The beans and other quick judgements (on my part when drunk irl usually) have made the character more chaotic.
Scram is like a natural disaster but the impetus is the collection of wealth instead of pressure differentials.
I've considered a few druid levels at some point. I think it would be hilarious after the Illarya relationship, beanstalk and lake incidents, and not to mention just how much Scram hates wandering around in nature and loves all things urban, if some druidic circle sought to punish/kill Scram. Then somehow instead, the rogue conned her way up through the complex hierarchy and convinced them such progressive methodology was for the best after all.
I love the Ingryd relationship and the kind of unconditional trust and friendship she gives Scram.
I miss the tight friendship Scram used to have with Luthael, I think the halfling has become too much for him. I loved how Scram, at least tongue in cheek, would believe every prophecy even to the point of proselytizing to others on Luthael's behalf. I think Jubal has maybe dialed back on the Prophet elements of the character, which is fine.
Then Gunnar has always been a solid problem solving buddy. Good group all around from my perspective. :)

Yes. I dial the prophetizing when it’s just us.
This last ploy of Scramsax really broke the relationship with Luthael who got personally chastised by his god for not preventing Scamsax from getting into trouble.
Raseri Whitescale |
And here Thor is probably silently egging Scramsax on just so Raseri will have tough foes to fight.
I do wonder if Khors and Thor are going to have a scene like in OotS when Durkon and Hilgya had an amatory encounter. That might be hilarious given how the two clerics view Scram with suspicion now.
Gunnar Thorstein |
Gunnar just deals with life as it comes. He is a bit odd himself as a mage who worships Thor. As long as he gets to throw thunder and lightning he is happy.
Luthael Invictusol |
I get it, gods over bros. ;)
For a cleric and prophet, unfortunately, yes.

Yeah, Scram doesn't know how to feel about Khors' interpretation of her actions to be honest.
Scram failed her will save multiple times and was under Carn's direct control. She couldn't have put it back even if she wanted to. What kind of god blames a mortal for falling under the control of another god? Did Khors expect Scramsax to be more powerful than a god? That seems foolish.
Further, there was no sign saying stealing the gem would cause the end of Midgard. Scram saw a creepy skeleton with his back turned and the most expensive gem she ever appraised begging to be taken. Khors should have said something.
Yes, it was a suspicious situation, but Scram's entire character is about avoiding traps and stealing jewels. Here the trap was divine and not avoided. Why didn't Khors tell Luthael to warn her beforehand if it was so important? Did Khors not see it coming? Did Scramsax sneak past a god?
Scram suggests Khors rethink the situation. ;)
Raseri Whitescale |
Ah, justifying one's kleptomania as any good thief should! :P

+1
Scramsax |
I'm just saying, it doesn't make sense for Khors to be upset with Scramsax. It's like blaming someone for an accident. Scram feels Khors, as a god, should be more wise.
Raseri Whitescale |

Perhaps Khors was expecting Mnemosyne to reign in her follower? Would that not make it the fault of Scram's goddess, then?
;)
Scramsax |
Scram would be fine with that interpretation. ;)
Put another way. Tangential scenario. Scram smokes. Its a bad habit, just like stealing. Scram could conceivably accidentally start a forest fire that burns down the entire Margreve because of her smoking. Should her soul be judged by starting a forest fire? Or should her soul be judged based on conscious decisions she makes? What seems the more godly way?
Raseri Whitescale |
Logically speaking, starting a forest fire is a risk that a reasonable person should be aware of when smoking in the wilds.
Scramsax |
Is the entire universe ending a logical assumption a reasonable person would think of when taking a gem from a statue? Is that what you are saying?
That would honestly not spring to mind. xD I think that would be completely irrational if someone believed that without any evidence, even in a fantasy fictional world.
Had Scram known the entire universe would end, or had that been even approaching anywhere near a rational thought, and still did it anyways, that would make sense. But what Khors is doing doesn't make sense.
Raseri Whitescale |
No, but what I am saying is that if you know how to start a fire, like Scram probably does, and that a forest has conditions that are conducive to starting a fire, then logically speaking, you should know that producing a spark or other ignition source could potentially start a fire.
Scramsax |
Haha, well I don't mean to bicker, but...
Do you blame the wild goose who has no comprehesion of how fires start for kicking someone's cigarette into the forest and starting a fire? Isn't that more like Scram who had no conceivable way to connect grabbing a gem and the universe ending?
Would it even make sense to say 'keep an eye on that goose'? How dare the animal not understand how fire works?
Raseri Whitescale |
No, but I also don't think a goose is sapient.
In this instance, I don't think the Universe ending is a logical conclusion, but it was pretty clear that there was something up with that room from the word go, so I'd argue that whether or not Scram knew that something hinky was up, she should have known something hinky was up. It's kinda like the difference between manslaughter and negligent homicide in NY State.
Manslaughter you knew what you were doing could get someone killed.
Negligent homicide you should have known what you were doing could get someone killed.
As far as bickering goes, I didn't think we were. I just thought we were having a conversation. :)
Scramsax |
Scram should have known the universe would end? How?
Scram's actions were neither similar to manslaughter nor negligent homicide.
Scram was thinking at worst trap ...not universe ending. Scram is good at detecting and evading traps. Scram was even in this case willing to take the risk to herself, even if it meant dying. Nat 20 appraisal, result priceless.
