Ah! Glad to be here! Get to play the same character twice at the same time, which will certainly be an experience. Sorry for the delay, was in the middle of hosting a campaign over VTT.
GM Cody |
All good; I reached out to customer support, the gameplay chat appears to be broken. I can’t post anything.
Grayson Reeve |
Greetings! Still working on the alias, but this is what I have so far. Will start looking at other selected characters, and coming up with various relationships, or connections that Grayson may have.
Quick question, we are using Remaster rules, correct? So Tenets & Anathema replace alignment?
Oppa Silk |
I noticed the issue with the Gameplay chat dotting as well. The basics of Oppa are in the profile, but I'll be refining it, and probably adding an additional profile for my Eidolon as well as he often acts differently.
Thanks for the invite!!!
Violant Turra |
I could imagine Violant and Grayson having known each other prior to the Call for Heroes, but Violant likely would have been too much of a hermit to meet anyone else.
Does no one here speak Utopian? Battles are going to be hilarious if not a soul can understand Violant rambling, considering 2e requires the Multilingual feat to add more languages.
GM Cody |
Yeah, still waiting to hear back from customer support, not sure about the gameplay thread. Odd to say the least.
Still gives folks a few days to finalize their character sheets and what not and ask me any last minute questions or last minute changes to their characters.
Grayson Reeve |
Well Grayson's brother did die during the fall of Lastwall, so maybe Violant remembers Braedon, and realizes that one of the knights who gave his life so the refugees from Roslar's Coffer could escape was the eldest son of the Reeves.
Even as I write this, the idea solidifies in my head, maybe Vio was the one who told the Reeves family that their son had died at Lastwall? So there would be this melancholy around Grayson & Violant's relationship because she was the bearer of that news ...
Thoughts?
Violant Turra |
Yeah that sounds somewhat reasonable. Well, somewhat, Violant was told that Lastwall was Radiant Fire'd at Twilight Academy in Varisia, so that'd mean that there'd be a bit of a time gap between when Grayson's brother actually died and when you got the news?
I was just thinking they would at least have found out about each other living in Breachhill. Either that or wait for the reveal later on, which will certainly be a shock to both parties.
Grayson Reeve |
I am not sure where the timeline falls, I think Ashes takes place about six months after Lastwall fell. I am assuming that the Knights were escorting refugees from Lastwall and such, which Braedon would have been part of that rear guard ...
Violant Turra |
Six months seems like a reasonable amount of time to wait in a world where quick long-distance travel rarely exists. That means the Radiant Fire fell right about when Violant was due to graduate, as well.
GM Cody |
Gameplay is up and working! Looks like it was hidden, so some posts were going through but werent visible. Either way, I made that first introductory post.
GM Cody |
Also, Ira, I was blown away by that Macro you are using in the Wrath Game, I went and asked GM Doug if I could use it too. So with his permission, I made a copy of yours and have set it up for our game!
But I might ask you questions every now and then if I can't figure something out lol
But yeah if y'all could fill out the Age of Ashes Macro at the top, that'd be appreciated. I'm still getting my butt kicked by this illness. I should be up and at 'em any day now.

Hopefully you are recovering Cody! I do have a couple questions for when you feel up to it. As a Local Scion, and the new owner (since Grigorès passing) of Reeveès Ironworks, I am assuming the Smithy is what pays for Grayson and his mother's lifestyle, including their home.
I am hoping most of that can be hand waived (ie. Lifestyle costs & basic necessities are assumed to be there, but his adventuring gear, etc is coming out of liquid funds, or personal wealth). Any stock he wanted to get would come from his personal funds, or he'd risk losing the business, or some such. Secondly, the Local Scion starts with Specialty Crafting, if I took Armor Smith, would that cover armor **and** shields?
Also, for their family home/smithy, I am figuring it is the red building along the Breach Creek, to the East, North-East of Tuskhead's Masonry, since they are partners now.
GM Cody |
Looking at the categories of speciality crafting, if you just chose blacksmithing it would cover all manner of blacksmithing, so weapons/armor/horsehoes/etc. As long as the weapon/armor/shield were mostly made of metal.
If you wanna add a little note to the town map slide, you can pick a house and that can be the Reevees Ironworks.
Violant Turra |
Ack! I haven't acted yet! Sorry for the confusion, was just trying to get a message in since I typically go through them in bulk. Sorry.
On that note, do I need an interaction action to draw weapons and spellbooks?
GM Cody |
I dont think you have to have your spellbook out to cast spells, but if you want it out for the flavor of a ya know the fluttering spellbook style caster than yeah I guess it'd be an interact action to draw it.
I love that the range of Hand of the Apprentice is 500 feet. Its so absurdly far.
Zen Gypsy |
Whelp, that looks like a dead Mephit ... 20 points of damage on the crit ... I like the Paizo boards, I never roll this well at home!
Quick question for you, as a long time resident of Breachill, is Grayson aware of the side door, behind the mephit? Does it lead to an exterior exit, or just a storage room or what have you?
GM Cody |
Yeah, as far as I can tell the doors lead to hallways, that kind of circle the council chambers.
GM Cody |
Oppa, poke poke, you're up in combat, for now the Mephit is dead but the fire still poses a considerable threat to the party and the civilians which is gonna have us remain in rounds to see how y'all handle the fire as a hazard.
GM Cody |
yeah, it was either a crit success on a 20 or a crit failure on a 1 or 2 so lol figured odds were in your favor to only take 1 damage XD
Zen Gypsy |
Slightly confused on the saving folks rules. How many actions does it take? Do you need to be adjacent?
ie. Grayson has three actions; can he save three people? The closest are the two in the south west corner, do I need to move adjacent (2 moves), and then save them? With only 1 action, can I save them?
GM Cody |
yeah you'd have to move to them first, the action of saving them allows you to move with them as well, its kind like you're taking their hand and leading them out with you.
So in your case, you'd spend two actions to move to those folks, then your third action would be another movement with up to three NPC's moving with you. They aren't "saved" untill they make it out the doors at the back of the room. Once outside they start to set up a bucket line to the fountain.
15 NPC's is needed to get the bucketline going, there are a total of 25 NPCs in the room, 20 townsfolk + 5 councilors, so the more folks you get out, the sooner the bucket line is formed.
1 bucket's worth of water, believe it or not, puts out 4 squares of fire.
GM Cody |
yes, spending an action to pour water and wrap your face will protect you from the smoke inhalation. Good creative thinking!
GM Cody |
lol would be funny, the fire damage definitely took a toll on you
Zen Gypsy |
Question. According to the map, I am in the SW corner, however, last round I still had an action left but wasn't sure how far I got with the two people, or if it was an interact action to get them to move.
Essentially, did I get them to the door last round, and was I able to move with them? Or are we still in the same spot when I start my turn this round?
GM Cody |
oh no, they just move when you move, so its whatever your movement speed is how far you would've got them, you could always pass them off or shout for one of the councilor's to take them the rest of the way, the councilor's are able to help folks escape as well, though only like 1 or 2 at a time, rather than the 3 of a Hero.
If you wanna move them to where you'd be if you finished your available movement first then take your turn you can.
Oppa Silk |
Just a few points for those new to PF2.
The three-action economy doesn't really start till you go into encounter mode. (Roll initiative). There are three modes of adventuring. Encounter, Exploration, and Down time. If you're not in active combat you're usually in Exploration mode... which is one action... Defend, Scout, Investigate, search etc. Until you are in encounter mode you must choose one of these actions to use in exploration mode.
Pathfinder 2e is almost void of random encounters. The encounters are balanced to be approached with almost full resources. That is why healing is much more powerful in this system you are designed to take damage, then heal up before the next encounter. This is using the assumption that hp damage is mostly bumps, bruises, and exhaustion not vital wounds. PF2 has "Conditions" to account for that happening.
An off shoot of this balance is that "prep" actions aren't really used. You can't buff, etc. before encounter mode begins. This is done to balance things out. You're not prepared for the encounter... but neither are the enemies, so it starts our balanced. You might know there is a threat behind the door but no more casting bless, raising my weapon, loading my bow and nocking an arrow. These things all take actions for everyone. If you don't follow this, it makes DM'ing much harder as they also have to do prep work for all the enemies. I find that this rule makes prep work for the DM many times easier than previous d20 systems. I know it seems weird... but it works.
I'm not the GM and they might rule otherwise... just trying to share my experience running the game RAW.
GM Cody |
Hey I appreciate that advice.
This is my first time GMing pf2e, though I've played in a couple of campaigns, The exploration actions are an added piece I'm still figuring out. Downtime makes sense, and of course the encounter one makes sense.
I'm just still trying to wrap my head around exploration actions.
So in this instance, I should have only allowed folks who had "Search" as their exploration activity listed get the perception check, and I roll that in secret.
GM Cody |
Yeah sorry, folks it was kind of busy week and I wasn't sure about y'alls intentions, seem liked we got bogged down by some dogs growling at y'all.
Y'all were making attempts at diplomacy but the dogs werent having it, wasnt sure if you guys were gonna attack or try something else. I didn't want to railroad you guys too hard, but I probably could provide better direction I guess?
They won't let y'all pass without a fight, if that's what you choose to do.
GM Cody |
Not sure what happened to Grayson, he stopped posting in his other game as well.
