LOOT!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hello potential players! I'm looking for a group of 5-6 players to embark upon a journey in Nirmathas! Please review the information below, but most importantly check out the steps in the Application Requirement sections to see what I'm looking for.

I'm planning on keeping the recruitment open for at least 5 days. If we get a ton of responses than I may shorten it and if we don't get any I may extend it. I'll give at least 24 hours notice before I close it if I close it early.

Good luck to everyone and I hope to see you on the other side!

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

1) Read the player's guide available here. What I don't want to see is a repurposed character from another game that doesn't fit into the story.
2) Role in the party (This should include your planned/preferred class)
2) Give me your concept, the crunch is not important to me up front. I'm more concerned with your character background and motivations than I am with mechanics right now. If you get selected then we'll worry about the stats. Why are you in Phaendar?
3) An understanding of your experience to both Pathfinder as well as play by post.

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS:

Here are my guidelines to determine if this is the PbP for you:

Post as often as is necessary but keep it regular. I tend to check the boards several times a day but less often on the weekends. Ideally, we’d have at least 1 post per day from everyone, as needed, but I understand that’s not always possible. Minimally I'd like to see 4 posts during weekdays. I am going to do my best to keep this game moving. If you only check the boards on the weekends or every few days, this is not the PbP for you.

Perseverance is preferred. This is a long-lasting story arc split into multiple modules with multiple parts each. If you don't think you can devote the time to hang around for at least a module at a time, this is not the PbP for you.

Communication is key. Whether it is letting me know of a vacation where you might not have internet access, questions about some minutiae of game play, or simple clarifications; communication is how I gauge how engaged my players are, and how I can tune the adventure so that everyone is enjoying themselves. If you don’t think it’s important to let the other players and GM know when you aren’t going to be able to post for a few days, this is not the PbP for you.

Roleplaying. As mentioned above, I like for my players to take the lead in a goodly portion of the adventure. Cues and clues will be given to prod, but I'd rather you go off on a wild hare chase rather than be spoon-fed copied portions of the AP over and over. If rolling dice is your go to solve a problem and your character is the strong silent type, this is not the PbP for you.

Quality posting. Know how you get when that hamburger you ordered doesn't look anything like the picture on the poster? That's how I feel about craptastic posts. No one (but you) is forcing you to rush a post out the door, so take your time with it. If you prefer to let the others do the talking, while you toss in one word responses, and like to roll for social skills with no explanations, this is not the PbP for you.

Have fun! This is one of the most important, because if you aren't having fun, why are you playing? Of course, this applies to everyone else too. So, don't be a jerk. If you want to have fun, then this is the PbP for you!

ABOUT THE GM:

I've been a Pathfinder GM for six years now and have run hundreds of different adventures ranging from Quests, Society Play, Modules and numerous Adventure Paths. I run live games, virtual table top games and play by post games with my local group of friends as well as complete strangers. I've been on these forums for enough years now to learn what the right balance of games is for me and I'm ready to take on a new group to start an adventure.

I enjoy role-playing more than rolling the dice and I only play this game because I love the story that we create together.

  • HERO POINTS: We will be playing with Hero Points.

FLUFF & STUFF

  • REQUIRED - BACKGROUND: A character background will allow me to RP with your character a little better, understand their motives, and even tailor hints or dialogue to them specifically. I will look upon those characters with a detailed background more favorably than those with two lines of "I was born, my parents were killed, I was an orphan, I want to kill things for revenge". Be creative!
  • REQUIRED - DESCRIPTION: A physical description will allow you and the other party members to visualize your character.
  • MOTIVATION: Your character should have a strong personal investment in the area, a reason to oppose invading monsters, or no pressing reason to return from whence they came.
  • UNDERLYING THEMESE: Wilderness survival, dungeon exploration, and guerrilla warfare against a far larger and better-equipped army.

Submitting Thuk Scarsbane. Half-Orc Bloodrager with the Blue Dragon bloodline and the Unbreakable Survivor trait.

Alignment: CG
Deity: Gorum

Thuk would serve as a nova front-liner, capable of huge amounts of damage on short notice. He could also serve as the "intimidate" face.

Backstory:

Thuk was born to a tribe of orcs that recognized the value of their half-orc kin, mixing bloodlines to try to create the smartest halfbreeds possible to lead them to victory in battle (though never as chieftains, obviously). Thuk seemed to hold promise, with his mixture of human, orc, and distant draconic blood making him much more intelligent than most of his brethren while still maintaining much of their strength.

The turning point in Thuk's life came when he and a small group of orcs he was leading were ambushed by a group of bandits in the Chernasardo. Thuk fought hard, but the ambush was well-planned out and the orcish squad was slaughtered. The bandits took their valuables, then dug a hasty grave for them and buried all four.

A few days later, a Ranger patrol happened by the site and took it upon themselves to investigate. As the most senior of them interpreted the tracks, a blue-green hand thrust itself out of the ground.

Thuk still lived, though his blood soaked the earth and he could neither see nor speak properly. The Rangers initially moved to slaughter what they thought was either an orc or an undead, but they were stayed by the elder's hand, who realized more quickly than the others Thuk's half-breed heritage. They took him to Phaendar to recover, where he became something of a legend. He took the moniker "Scarsbane" in homage to the network of healed wounds that crossed his face, torso, and limbs. As he recovered, Thuk found himself enamored with this culture, and these people who, while weaker than he, seemed to live happier and more free lives. Their ministrations brought him back to life, and he decided to stay - to entertain some of the children with his stories, and to defend the town if some enemy came calling.

Experience:
I've been playing Pathfinder since Legacy of Fire appeared in Paizo's store. I'm readily available and fairly knowledgeable about the rules, but if the GM contradicts me I happily submit to him/her (I don't argue). I also write novels, so coming up with fun and descriptive posts is entertaining and enjoyable to me.

Dotting for later

Definitely interested in coming up with a concept.

I'd really appreciate a chance to play! Answering your application questions with my initial ideas for a Druid.

Party role: a casting focused Druid utilising their powers to support the party and destroy its foes (inspired by the Fury Druid theme in the Pathfinder Strategy Guide).

Concept: As a young adult they travelled to Crystalhurst with their mentor with the intention of helping research a cure for the Darkblight. Unfortunately their small group of travellers was discovered by Ironfang Legion scouts and mercilessly set upon in the night for sport - all the other members of their group, including their mentor, were killed. They barely escaped under the protection of their mentor's animal companion (Ironfang Survivor trait).

Since then they have primarily resided in Crystalhurst. Their studies turned from curing the Darkblight to the harnessing the fury of nature and they are always amongst the first to volunteer when Crystalhurst sends allies to aid the Nirmathi.

Experience: I've been playing RPGs for 20+ years but I'm new to PbP (~10 posts in to a PFS campaign on these boards). I've only been playing d20 systems (Pathfinder and 5e D&D) for around 5 of those years and primarily GMing homebrew campaigns. I consider myself a Pathfinder novice player, my only characters have been CRB & APG only, hence I'm using the strategy guide to influence my build. I absolutely love the Pathfinder campaign setting and would enjoy any opportunity to experience more of it.

Scarab Sages

Dotting for interest. I wont have time to do much these next two days but I will certainly have all the information filled out before the five day deadline.

Dotting in! Very interested!

Dotting. Been wanting to play this one for a while and have a few ideas for a character.

Scarab Sages

Not familiar with Ironfang past the Player's Guide, but sounds really intriguing so I would like to submit a character for consideration.

Party Role: Jillian is a soldier, as such she will be a front liner in combat. Out of combat she will be a party diplomat and a bit of a moral compass.

Concept: Jillian was born to a family of devout worshipers of Erastil. At a young age they took her to a regional cleric of Erastil who took her on as his ward and trained the young girl. After receiving a vision from Old Deadeye himself, she joined the ranks of Paladin. Following the tenants of Erastil and focusing on family and community Jillian eventually joined up to fight against the threats that faced the community she held so dear. She spent awhile as a soldier until recently returning to her family and community.

I've intentionally left things a bit vague, but essentially I figured either her family proper or maybe a sister/brother/uncle etc lives in Phaendar and that is why she has returned there on her extended sabbatical from the fighting. I'm also open to either fighting on the fronts of the crusades in Lastwall or the war-torn front with Molthune. Happy to flesh out more with guidance on appropriate potential NPC links or story elements related to the AP. Love to try and tie things in closely with the AP to provide for a better story, but as noted I don't have any past experience with the AP so open to some collaboration with you on that front.

Experience: I've been playing RPGs for years and specifically Pathfinder since D&D branched off into 4E. I've been GMing/playing PbP for several years and I currently play in 3 slow moving games and GM 5 others here on the boards so I'm pretty active.

Thank you to those that have dotted with interest and to haydenmccullen, incandescant and Dakcenturi for your submissions!

Application:
1) Role in the party- Ranged Support, Tracking, Stealth. (Ranger - Hooded Champion)
2) Concept - Planning a sort of history with vague recollections to the Patriot movie, only rather than revolutionary war, more of a Nirmathi lilt. World-Weary trait, something of a hermit, but then the world once again invades his serenity and causes him to take up arms.
3) I have been playing Pathfinder since Jade Regent came out, or thereabouts, been involved heavily in society for about three years. Been doing play by post for about two years.

RACE: Half-Elf

ABILITY SCORES: To come later, if chosen.

CLASSES: Ranger (Hooded Champion), possible eventual levels sorcerer into Arcane Archer.

FEATS: All good.

TRAITS: War-Weary and either Reactionary or Forlorn.

SKILLS: Profession (Soldier) to reflect his past as bonus, background will come with crunch.

GOLD: Average gold for your class (175gp)

HIT POINTS: 10+con mod

ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Neutral

RELIGION: Ketephys (Elven Deity)

OTHER STUFF : HERO POINTS: 1?

FLUFF & STUFF

BACKGROUND: Phaestan is a half-elf, born of a happy marriage between a hunter from the forest surrounding Phaendar, whence he drew the boy's name, and an elf from Crystalhurst. He was raised by his happy family, and in time he joined the military, serving at the Fangwood Keep for a number of years before receiving a post closer to home.

He served his full term, and came home to an empty house and no parents. His father had died some years ago, which is unsurprising. His mother had returned to the grove at Crystalhurst, and from time to time he will visit her, though it hurts her somewhat having lost his father to know that she will lose him as well long before she has reached the end of her life.

Being now retired, somewhat, Phaestan makes his living hunting in the woods, killing deer and other game, tanning hides, drying and salting meat, and foraging for what other bounty the forest offers. He mostly keeps to himself these days, occasionally traveling to town to sell what he needs to or for a drink with people, silence and solitude are not always the cure for what ails you.

DESCRIPTION: Phaestan looks to be a decently young man, well into his adulthood but with the vim and vigor of one barely in his thirties. His eyes speak to the truer age of his body, crease lines worn around them from gazing, and from time spent smiling in years past. He tends to dress in darker colors, deep greens and browns, and shies away from anything that might actually draw attention. His skin is a shade of grey, and his hair is a stark white, though he tends to dye it brown much of the time, giving him a very earthen appearance. He is almost never without a knife and a bow, though what else he carries is anyone's guess.

MOTIVATION: Motivation for Phaestan will come from the threat to his homeland, to his personal way of life, or to those he considers friends. Though they are few and far between, it is something to consider as "For love will even a peaceful man go to war. For love, man will destroy himself, and that right willingly". It might be overstepping to call it love, but there is certainly a portion of care and a strong sense of belonging to be had for one's town.

Dotting. I have a question.

Application Requirements wrote:

1) Read the player's guide available here. What I don't want to see is a repurposed character from another game that doesn't fit into the story.

Where it says you don't want a repurposed character, does that include a character from another Ironfang Invasion PbP that died out?

Party Role: Frontline melee fighter, with a bit of extra elemental punch.

Concept: World-weary Lastwall human or Half-Elven CG shifter (Elementalist) a deserter from Castle Everstand after a raid on the orcs went badly (so, won't he be delighted when the hobgoblins come - after getting away from the orcs).

Experience: Been playing PF since the (1e) playtest days, been active on the boards for more than a decade, playing PbP on the boards since 2011, and have lasted longer than the GM in every one of them so far. (Made it to 10th twice, once an Age of Worms and once a Rise of Runelords, and 9th in Legacy of Fire). Currently playing in 4 PbPs, which as someone with a 16-month-old at home, is the only kind of gaming I'm doing at the moment.

Welcome ScorchedOne and Tilnar!

Phntm888 wrote:

No, that situation you mention is fine. What I meant by my statement was that I don't want to see a Rise of the Runelords or Reign of Winter character that didn't get selected for another campaign is submitted here as is without being changed to fit the context of this adventure path. This has happened to me numerous times in other campaigns so I thought I'd call it out up front. If you already have another Ironfang character then I'm sure this theme is probably right where it needs to be.

Right. If you're a crazy person in an insane asylum, you belong in Strange Aeons, not Ironfang Invasion. :P

I'd like to submit Rowan Ellis, chaotic good half-elf investigator. He would serve as the group's skill monkey, focusing especially on knowledge and trapfinding. He would also serve as a backup melee or ranged fighter. At level three, he will be able to start sharing his extracts with the party, allowing him to heal or buff the team. I am also potentially interested in giving him item crafting feats (especially potion making), but that can be decided later.

I have been playing Pathfinder for about five years now. I have some pbp experience, although not much of it is on these forums. I'm not in any other pbps right now, so I'm excited to get a chance to play again. If you have any questions or concerns about the character, please let me know.

Backstory:
Born to an elven man and a human woman, Rowan Ellis has lived in Nirmathas all his life. His father, a visiting diplomat from Kyonin, left shortly after he was born. He was raised by his mother, a skilled herbalist who taught him everything he needed to know about surviving in the wild. Rowan grew up to become a trapper living in the Fangwood, hunting small game and gathering herbs to trade. He has continued his now-deceased mother's tradition of experimenting with herbalism and has even branched out into alchemy using materials gathered from the forest.

Having lived in Nirmathas almost since the start of the war with Molthune, Rowan has done his best to avoid the fighting. Although he supports the Nirmathi people in their struggle for freedom, he is not a fighter at heart. However, he hates to see people suffering and has done his part to help in indirect ways, healing the injured with his mother's herbal remedies and donating what supplies he can find to the war effort. A few years ago, Rowan decided to settle down in Phaendar, hoping it would be far enough from the front lines that he could live in peace.

Personality/Physical Description:
Rowan is a kind, quiet soul. He enjoys the tranquility of the woods and spends much of his time out on walks to hunt and gather new ingredients. Although he enjoys solitude, he also greatly values the companionship of others, and regularly returns to town to trade and share stories. He also loves to learn more about the world, and it is not uncommon to find him with his nose buried in a book (despite the difficulty of finding books in such a rural place). His curiosity also leads him to experiment with herbalism and alchemy, always trying to improve his formulas.

As a half-elf, Rowan is taller than the average human and has distinctive pointy ears. He has long blond hair and green eyes. He normally wears a simple, well-worn set of leather armor when traveling, carrying a bow and a spear for hunting and self-defense. At home, he often wears a pair of spectacles while reading or conducting alchemical research.

Excellent. Then my submission is below.

Application Requirements

Carthas Brambleroad, half-elf alchemist (bramble brewer).

Role: In combat, he's mostly a ranged switch-hitter with an eventual secondary support role (once I take the Infusion discovery). Out of combat, he'll provide some minor face abilities and the ability to make potions, as well as having some wilderness survival ability.

Concept: Summarized version of the backstory below is that he is originally from Molthune and was apprenticed to a drunken hedge doctor/alchemist, from whom he was able to learn his skills until one day when he waited until his master passed out, stole some supplies, and ran away, heading to Nirmathas. He decided that he liked Nirmathas enough to stay, and has become a wandering alchemist and hedge doctor. He comes to Phaendar to resupply.

Backstory:

Carthas Brambleroad, formerly Carthas Algaresla, never knew who his father was. His mother was an Elven sacred prostitute of Calistria in Molthune who had the anti-contraception brew fail on her. Though she kept him and gave birth to him, she never truly cared for him, viewing him more as an annoyance than a child. Though he initially lived in the temple to Calistria, he was sent away at age 10, as they had no desire to keep such a homely looking boy around. He was taken in by a hedge doctor named Hork Small who treated soldier’s ills and wounds, and used him as mostly a gopher and beating stick when he drank enough. Carthas quickly learned to walk small and avoid notice, and shut himself away from others, no matter how friendly.

The one benefit of living with Hork was that his keen mind was able to learn some of what he did by watching the doctor at work, and by sneaking into the doctor’s workshop when he was either sleeping or passed out. Hork did directly teach him some things, but only when he was feeling generous or in a good mood. Eventually, he began secretly experimenting with some of what he found until he felt confident he could do so on his own, then, one night when the doctor was passed out drunk at 18, he ran away, stealing what supplies he could carry to practice the hedge doctor’s trade.

He traveled towards the border with Nirmathas with various caravans and other groups, bartering his skill as a hedge doctor for transport and food. He wound his way towards the border, hoping the doctor hadn’t reported him to the authorities, and that if the man had, he won’t be found out. During these travels, a merchant’s guard named Volex took some pity on him, and taught him a bit out how to use some basic weapons to defend himself if he was attacked. Carthas also discovered certain combinations of reagents could become highly volatile and explosive when combined, and he nearly blew his hand off in that incident. He also discovered he could replicate certain magical effects - a product of his Elven heritage, he supposed. Eventually, the caravan reached the front, and Carthas was able to sneak across the border, and into freedom.

Carthas initially thought about traversing the Bloodsworn Vale and heading to Varisia, but he found Nirmathas pleasant, and chose to stay. He has spent the past 10 years in Nirmathas, honing his craft, going from village to village, treating the ills of the common folk in exchange for lodging, food, and sometimes coin. He’s grown used to living off the land and sleeping under the stars when need be, and though he has no true friends, there are many who recognize him and will take the time to talk to him. Now calling himself Carthas Brambleroad, he has spent the past 2 years in the Nesmian Plains. He finds the setting beautiful, and the region has enough population that he can easily keep to a specific, circuitous route. He is able to pass through Phaendar at the time when most people gather and the merchants from other parts of Nirmathas come, for this is the best time for him to acquire actual coin for his services, as well as to find supplies he may not be able to acquire in the wild or during the rest of the year. He finds his new life to be a good one, and perhaps he will even settle down in the area and stop wandering someday. He isn’t worried. He has plenty of time to figure it out.

Experience: I've been playing RPGs for over a decade, and have been GM'ing for a good portion of that. I've been doing Play-by-Posts for the past 4-5 years. I currently play in many PbP games, and am GMing 4 here on the forums.

Liberty's Edge

name Tahlarn Kither

party role
Lawful good Ranger Trapper. Skills and ranged damage

concept:

Tahlarn was raised by his father Kinkar who worked as a traveling beast hunter. This eventually lead to the fangwood forest. His father quickly became a member of the foxglove scouts taking a young Talharn on hunts into the forest. While talharn was not as strong as his father he developed a knack for traps. Life progressed peacefully until Talharn's Kinkar was injured horribly on a solo hunt leading to an early retirement. Talharn now continues the hunt alone in order to support and protect his father along with others who enter the Fangwood forest.

physical description:

Talharn has a narrow face with long whiskers and a tawny color coat. He has a tuft of black fur on the top of his head that never seems to lay flat. He wears mostly leather of a deep green except for a dark brown traveling cloak.

Experience
I'm new to play by post but not to pathfinder. I moved away from my old play group and I'm hoping to find something on here to scratch the itch.

Role: Dwarf wizard, focused on magical item crafting. He'll be a battlefield control and buff wizard in combat.

Concept: Ulmaic Stormforge is an old veteran of many campaigns, primarily with Molthune, and has faced the Ironfang Legion in the past. A few years ago he came home to Glimmerhold to retire in peace. He set up a small shop and was content enchanting weapons and armor for younger warriors to wield. He's a regular visitor to Phaendar for the Market Festival and will feel the old excitement and adrenaline pumping again once this adventure kicks off. He may develop a sort of parental relationship with younger party members, or it may be more of a "kids these days!" thing, I'm interested in finding out which.

About me: I've been roleplaying for a few years, but my schedule is such that PbP is the only way I can realistically do it. I've only done pathfinder, no other systems, and I'm currently in 2 other campaigns here on the Paizo boards and ready to start another. I'd barely even heard of Ironfang before now, so it'll be fun to experience it completely blind other than what the player's guide tells me.

Howdy!

This character was created for another Ironfang Invasion game that I got to start, but when I vanished for 3 weeks as a result of a sudden acute attack of a condition we didn't know my wife suffers . . .. (She is in marvelous shape and has avoided any additional attacks for several months, now.) The Ironfang Invasion team had replaced Barhador before I was able to ask about rejoining them. No hard feelings from my end, and apologetic expressions from theirs. They still haven't marked Barhador as inactive in that game, though. <shrug>

Role: Ranged Combat/Hunter/Naturalist Hunter/Ranger/Slayer seem the most obvious class options.

Concept: An elf from a secluded village hidden within the Fangwood, sent out to find a mate to bring back home. Note that home is close enough, the invading army is OBVIOUSLY a huge potential threat to his small village, so protecting them will mean working against the army whenever and wherever possible.

Experience: Extensive, I think. Started playing in '79. Started playing PBP through CompuServe back in '92, I think. Been on these forums for a while, now. My profile shows my first post as 11 Oct 2011. After I moved for work in 2013, PBP became my primary RP method. I am in multiple AP games on these forums, and check the boards multiple times a day, most days. I normally only post in the evenings after I get home from work.

Other notes: Obviously, I need to downgrade Barhador back to 1st level. Looking him over again, the feat selection confuses me. I'll probably swap that to PBS to enhance his primary role capability.

I can do more rework than that if the selected party desires. I'm happy with how the character was working mechanically, though, so I would want a solid REASON to rework beyond the identified.

The story does a good job of pushing past the xenophobia that's a natural result of his background story, not that his hunt for a mate wasn't designed to help with that already.

My background offers the creation of a couple of elven lasses native to Phaendar that justify Barhador having "settled" into the area for a bit. Depending on player preferences, I am not opposed to including any likely PCs as potential mates to eventually take home, but I will not knowingly impose that role on another player unilaterally.

Thank you KnightOwl20, Phntm888, Jezques, Lekric18 and Barhador for your submissions!

Submitting Darrin al Diman

Role: Ranged Damage doer/goblinoid expert

Concept: Slayer with the Stygian Slayer Archetype, Greenskin stalker and Unbreakable Survivor traits

Background:

Spoiler:
Darrin al Diman is a Slayer with the Stygian Slayer Archetype, previously from Isger, and a veteran of the Goblinblood wars, in which he lost many people he cared about, and devoted himself to wiping the goblin menace from the area around him. He led a party of like minded street toughs into the goblin warrens, and thanks to his choices, they all died, and he nearly did. Desna came to him in a dream, and told him that now was not his time to destroy, that he needed to find a place to live and cultivate the art of life. He headed into the wilds of Nirmathis, and became a farmer, known as a quiet and peaceful man, and never seen to pick up a bow.

Experience: I have been playing D&D or Pathfinder for more than a decade, and almost always as a GM (so getting to play as a character would be so great). I have done a few play by posts throughout the past few years, and before that I was an embarrassingly frequent visitor to Role Play forums of other websites. I can, and will, check multiple times a day, because I love doing this.

Thanks for your consideration!

Are you accepting only LG paladins?

I'll submit Markus. Human unchained monk multiclassing with unchained rogue with the world weary trait. His roll will be mobile striker, trap finder, and survivalist.

Background: In his last official assignment, Markus served in the scouting regiment at Lastwall. His duties took him into the wilds scouting for orcs and worse that encroached upon the kingdom. Usually these trips lasted up to a tenday at a time. In order to move quickly and quietly he had to pack light, often having to forage and hunt for his own food. One day he came across the grisly scene of the remains of a family that had been traveling through the area. This discovery shook him to his core and he decided to retire as soon as he got back to headquarters. Thankfully his superiors were amiable to the idea and he went on his way to find more peaceful places to live.
He eventually made his way to the Nesmian Plains and found an easy life as a farmer. He passed the time bringing his meager yield to Phaendar to trade for things he may need. This peaceful life isn't as exciting as he wished it could be but at least he is away from the horrors in Lastwall.

Experience: I currently run a 5th ed game here on the boards but until recently I was in three different pathfinder games with the same DM. He decided to stop the games as he couldn't find the time to devote to them any more. Two of those campaigns were set in Eberon while the third was his take on rise of the runelords that he started back before it was created for pathfinder. I've been playing these style of RPGs since 3.0 and continued to pathfinder.

I'm enforcing the alignment restriction, yes. The only exception I'm aware of is the Grey Paladin.

LOTS of competition for ranged/outdoorsie type characters. Ah, well. Does seem the AP for them.

It most certainly is. I haven't read any of the books after the first one yet, but I can say for certain that a focus on the outdoors is a good fit for the first chapter of the AP.

The player's guide highlight several important skills and archetypes that push in that direction as well.

ShadowLord, how do you handle (no pun intended) animal companions with regards to player control, especially in combat? Also, I've heard that this AP is a good one for mounted characters - would you agree from what you've read so far?

From what I've read so far, the large majority of the book takes place in rural areas. I would agree that the first book would be well suited to animal companions or mounts.

In the past I have worked with players who have animal companions to try and come to an agreement on how they function. My preference is to allow the players full control of them, I have enough to handle already:) However, if the players can't adequately portray the companion and instead make them behave appropriately to the situation than I may have to intervene.

Sounds good, thanks. I'll see what I can come up with.

Scarab Sages

Silverback, Human Druid 1, at your service. (I see we have lots of competition for druid/ranger types, but can't resist for some reason)

Q&A:

1) Read the player's guide available here. What I don't want to see is a repurposed character from another game that doesn't fit into the story.
DONE!

2) Role in the party (This should include your planned/preferred class). My combat role will primarily be a Wild Shape front-liner (off-tank or off damage-dealer), though I will be taking all levels in druid and should be a formidable full divine caster. I have a domain, not an animal companion. Out of combat, I should be able to offer survival, nature, perception, and intimidate.

3) Give me your concept, the crunch is not important to me up front. I'm more concerned with your character background and motivations than I am with mechanics right now. If you get selected then we'll worry about the stats. Why are you in Phaendar? See Background section of my character sheet. I'm happy to change any details to better fit the campaign.

4) An understanding of your experience to both Pathfinder as well as play by post. I have been playing D&D since Red Box days, but have gravitated to Pathfinder since 3.5. I have been on the Paizo boards for about 5 years, and have over 18,000 posts. I am very consistent and have no problem with the posting requirements.

Hey! Thank you for agreeing to DM a play by post game. Seems like I am a wee bit late to the party - the submit a nature themed character party. Imma still do it though.

Introducing Ceres Scipio - the Human, Leshy Warden Druid!

Role:

I am looking to play a Human (Taldan) Leshy Warder Druid. I have been interested in playing a plant themed character, and I think this setting (especially the Darkblight and Fangwood Forest) is an excellent opportunity.

Ceres Scipio will provide her party support through several avenues. First, she will provide buffing, healing and crowd control with her full druid list and additional Growth Domain (and as I see there are other applicants with access to the druid spell list, I would definitely be willing to work with them to ensure little overlap). Second, she and occasionally her leaf leshy, Chloris, will provide melee support through flanking, positioning, wild shaping and summoning. Third, her skill and feat selections will focus on crafting herbal remedies (Craft:Alchemy) for the party, surviving in nature (Knowledge: Nature, Survival, Handle Animal) and growing a beautiful, safer Fangwood (Train Plants, Grow Plant Creatures).

Concept:

Alignment: Neutral Good

Religion: Green Faith

Background:
“No Ceres, our family didn’t fight in no war,” Vetus Scipio would, again, remind his daughter. “Someone has the tend to the land and feed the people. Our family have always respected the land, and the land has always cherished us. Never forget that.”

This memory became Ceres solace after the Darkblight overcame her small community on the outskirts of the Fangwood forest. Locals were always weary that the blighted fey would visit, but no one suspected that they would come with such ferocity. Ceres’s family attempted to flee into the Fangwood to avoid the scourge, however all but Ceres were utterly overwhelmed. Ceres herself became plagued, almost instantaneously, with the Darkblight - a bite from an affected Pixie on her left hand’s ring finger.

As Ceres lay dying in the undergrowth and brush of the Fangwood, she remembered her father’s words: “The land has always cherished us.” With her ring finger searing and disease rapidly spreading up her arm, Ceres began to lose consciousness. As her vision faded, she began to hear the forest around her – leaves rustled, branches crackled and yet the land settled…

When Ceres awoke, she immediately noticed two things. First, she appeared to be no longer suffering from the ill effects of the Darkblight. She also appeared to no longer be “suffering” from a ring finger on her left hand – a thick purple, throbbing scar ran across the new tip of her finger at her first knuckle. And second, perhaps more incredulously, on her chest sat a plump, little plant creature covered in leaves and pine needles. Though its face was featureless, she felt a warm, comforting smile radiate from this forest spirit. “Never forget that,” she could almost hear her father say.

Following the four years since the Darkblight eradicated her little hamlet, Ceres’s purpose has become clear – the Darkblight must be extinguished and the inhabitants of this land, both humanoid and spirit, must be supported. While Ceres has spent a significant amount of this time learning and communing in the hidden community of Crystalhurst, she frequently travels the countryside of Nirmathas. She is always accompanied by her faithful Leshy companion, Chloris. Guided by the tainted scar on her finger, she provides both magical and herbal support in fighting both the effects and the source of the Darkblight.

“We have always respected the land, and the land has always
cherished us. Never forget that.”

Physical Description:
At 21 years old, a stranger might first notice Ceres’s… “natural appearance.” Not dirty per say, in fact the mud from the Tourondel Marches has amazing anti-fungal and cleansing qualities. But it does leave a bit of a brownish-red residue. And yes, she typically wears a loosely woven flower crown in her long, unbrushed chestnut hair – but Chloris makes one for her each morning so she can’t NOT wear it. Her calves are taut from years of traveling, and her squat frame sits is condensed to 5 feet and 5 inches. A stranger might notice second her green eyes that reflect the vitality of the plant life that constantly surrounds her. While her skin, from what can be seen, remains a pale white with olive undertones. No one would particularly describe as comely, yet no one would describe her as homely either. In fact, she typically remains somewhat undescribed by those who do not directly associate for her.

Experience:

I have been playing in an "in real life" Rise of the Runelords campaign for around 2 years (as a witch!). I have, as of yet, been unable to find a play by post game to join, but I am eager to join one. I think the speed of the game and emphasis on writing will be right up my alley!

Thanks for the consideration, and may Desna bless you on this journey!

I am dotting for interest. I have a fairly good idea of the character I will propose, but I want to read over the source material on the area before I do. I should have something within 24 hours.

Dotting. Was initially thinking about an archer, but it looks like there are plenty of those already :p

I'd love to be a part of this, thanks for running! Here's my application

Vitus Woodborn

Role: Vitus is a herb witch (probably with the healing patron) who provides healing and support to the party through the use of herbal remedies and natural magic. I'm not a fan of weird hexes like prehensile hair, so I'm thinking more support like healing hex and fortune.

Concept: Vitus was born to a family living in the Fangwood but was displaced by violence as a young man and joined up with the Nirmathi Militia. Fueled by anger at his misfortune he fought numerous battles and saw more of the horrors of war than he would like.

Eventually his anger and resentment dried up, and his essentially good nature meant that he couldn't remain fighting and stay sane, even in the role of a healer that he had found he had an aptitude for. He parted in good terms, and settled in Phaender, where he has lived for decades.

The locals of the village know that if they need bones setting, or if they fall into a patch of poison berries, that cooky old Vitus can mix them up a remedy or even provide a bit of magical healing if necessary.

Experience: I've been playing Pathfinder since 2013, when I started running Rise of the Runelords for some friends. We finished that after 3 years, and I'm now running Carrion Crown. I also play Pathfinder Society (mostly as a way to play rather than GM, but even there I end up GMing a fair amount). I've always wanted to play in an Adventure Path, so I'm really excited about this chance, especially as Play-by-Post seems like such a rich format for it.

I've not yet played any Play-by-Post games, although I am signed up for EvilMinion's "Occasional Demons" PFS run starting in January which I'm very excited about. However my wife would be able to confirm that I'm obsessed with Pathfinder and am on these boards and other discords multiple times per day, so I think I can manage a post every day or thereabouts.

Thanks!

Application:

1) I have read the players' guide.

2) Casia Umbright would be a Feyspeaker Druid. In combat, her role would be battlefield control (between enchantment spells and the typical druid spells). Out of combat, her roles include scout and face (stealth, high charisma).

3) Casia is a refugee from Nidal. She was born to a minor noble family as a slave, now bearing the scars of both her ownership and their faith in Zon-Kuthon. As their slave she was forced to bear a variety of burdens around the house deemed worthy for a halfling, although unlike the rest of her family, she was also given a special project. Unsatisfied with the status of their family, they tasked Casia with discretely following other families around the city and learning their machinations. During one such errand, Casia stumbled upon an opportunity to leave Pangolais: a group of traders were in need of help and were heading to the Usk River to catch a river boat heading east. Taking what was likely her only chance of freedom, she boarded their carriage and never looked back.

After months of hitchhiking east, Casia has found herself in a small hamlet deep in the Fangwoods of Nirmathas. Unfortunately, this now abandoned town was in the early stages of a Darkblight epidemic. After weeks of suffering helplessly, Casia carries the weight of additional scars on her body. Luckily, Casia was able to slowly recover and after being nursed back to health by a generous family, now finds herself in Phaendar. In this remote little town, she has found people to be friendly yet physically distant enough that she is confident that she won't be found by her former masters or their agents.

Now, a couple of years have passed without a calling from Pangolais and Casia lives in relative ease. She spends most of her day gathering berries and other fruits from the nearby woods to trade with the other locals for supplies. While she wouldn't call many of them true friends, she has formed many warm acquaintances in the community and, for now, this is enough.

Motivations/Personality: Casia is motivated by safety, both her own and those she knows. After a childhood of slavery and darkness, she is overjoyed to have a community in which her work is her own and she is beholden to none. Perhaps more importantly, she is willing to do what she can to resist any attempts at shattering this little pocket of paradise (especially for the family that nursed her back to health).

Physical Appearance: Casia is tall, for a halfling, at 3ft tall. Her dark brown hair falls to her waist and contrasts with her bright green eyes. Years of working everyday have kept her in reasonable shape and she is quite quick on her feet. Most of the skin on her body has a scar created in the name of Zon-Kuthon. Most of these take the form of cuts and lashes, but the occasional burn is present too, as is the unmistakable remnants of a brush with Darkblight.

4) I've been playing Pathfinder for about a decade now. I've played through the Age of Worms AP (adapted for Pathfinder from 3.5), GMed Legacy of Fire through the third book, am a 2 star PFS GM, and have GMed a smattering of other modules. I'm currently involved in several long-term AP's and PFS scenario campaigns. I've been active daily on these boards for about 3 years now. I invite you to peruse my aliases and post history for a taste of my RP potential and daily activity, however I am also willing to pull samples if you wish.

In your OP, you said crunch can come later, but your crunch spoiler suggests there are some pieces of it you might want earlier. Let me know if there are any further details you'd like me to provide you with!

Sorry, Barhador, you're inactive now. :)

Along those lines, GM, are you OK with a player who's also running the game? I've got one about 3/4 of the way through Book 1, but I'd also love to play in it.

Of course! I play in games I GM all the time.

Silver Crusade

ShadowLord, I don't see any monsters who are almost looked upon like vermin in your races list. Before I carefully craft a character concept, would you allow any monster races? Goblins are probably too closely connected to hobgoblins, but what about a kobold who worships Apsu? He would be enough of an outcast that his presence in Phaendar would make sense.

I put together an alias for Ulmaic Stormforge, but the only thing finished so far is the background, appearance, and personality. The rest is just copy-pasted over from another alias for the formatting. I'll finish the rest as I have time today.

I'd like to submit Selde Cathron for the campaign. I created her for a previous online game I had to drop out of due to time constraints. I'd love to give her another shot. Mechanics might need some slight modification to match your requirements, but there shouldn't be any issues.

Roe in the Party: Nature Fang Druid, Ranged Damage, Magical Support
Selde's focus will be on archery, her animal companion serves as a mount for added mobility. This leaves her magic free to help support the party. Her skill focus will be in wilderness survival. If we find ourselves lacking a rogue, she can also pick up Trapfinding to help with dungeon crawling.

Concept: I absolutely love the Nature Fang Druid archetype. It straddles martial and magic and I played with that concept for Selde. She has a foot in multiple worlds and is trying to find her place. Living in the forest and the village, wanting to have friends while being awful at making and keeping them. As a Phaendar local, she has a vested interest in the land and its people. Full backstory and appearance can be found in the profile. Should be easy to work any of the party members in as well.

Experience: I've been playing pathfinder since it first released, and D&D and other tabletops for years before that. I have experience with online games and I'm currently in a Starfinder play by post.

Welcome Selde, Gummy Bear, Tom G, Magicblast, Silverback.

The book eludes to the fact that there could possibly be some strange creatures in Phaendar. I don't have an issue with someone trying a kobold, but you should be prepared for a less than pleasant/potentially hostile greeting from humanoids who are likely not accustomed to dealing with them.

GM:

I've played with Dakcenturi for a while and haydenmmcullen only for a little bit but so far they're both regular posters who RP well. Exactly the kind of players every PBP gm wants.

Sorry if there's anyone else in this thread I should recommend whose alias I didn't recognize.

Presenting Father Emil for consideration. See the profile for all the materials requested for application. Thank you for considering my character.

Scarab Sages

I plan on rolling up a wizard. Either a halfing or an undine. As im working out the details I will ask, would a decendant of a river nereid be too exotic for your tastes? To be honest i dont want to submit something with a very small chance of making the cut.

My other plans involve a former halfling slave to an old wizard who passed along. In the chaos of the old wizards children dizzying up the goods he slipped out and fled north with a few tomes trying to make a new life for himself.

Role - Arcane

Experience - I cut my teeth for D&D at the tail end of 2nd edition back in the 90's in the army. I became deeply enthralled when 3rd edition hit and have been actively playing in all manner of roleplaying games since then.

I have only been playing PBP's for the last 4 years and would to think of myself of profiecient in keeping involved and moving things forward, although real life has poked its head in a time or two to slow that down.
