I've sent my character build over. Just waiting for a pit number so that me and Choon can see who will take this round.

Okay, I've received gladiator sheets from:

Arian
Gnasher
Jezebel
Lazarus
Morskitter
Ritti
Rolg

I'm reviewing the ones I should be reviewing (I'll try to get to them today). mbauers is reviewing a handful of them as well.

If you have't sent in your gladiator submission or this round, please do so when you can. I'm going to kick off challenge matches as soon as both players has gotten approved gladiators.

Yep, I have yours, and will be reviewing it today. Now I just need to receive and review Bruno's sheet and you two will get set up in a Pit. :)

Scarab Sages

I'll do that this afternoon. I don't have access to it on my phone (which is where 90% of my posting happens).

I'll be sending Elinora and Alistar at some point today

Male to kill the six fingered man Duelist/20 years

I've been toying with the idea of making an arena similar to this with one crucial difference. I want to see how good builds are through the life of their build. My idea was to have a group of fighters fight each other at 1st, 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th and see which builds end up with the most wins. Maybe 2 or 3 fights at each level to help with fluke victories or losses. You would have to build your character from each point, as in no swapping out feats or anything as you level. What do you all think? Any suggestions on ways to do this?

Maybe that's too many fights and I should do it at 1st, 7th, 13th, and 20th or 3rd, 10th, and 17th.

Cool and cool. People should be getting feedback on their submissions. If you haven't heard from me, it's either because yours was good without any issues or because I've overlooked the submission. Let me know if you think that's the case.

THis certainly seems ambitious. More of an experiment than an arena.

I'm not sure if I'd have the time to drum up 3 or 4 version of a build, then be able to stick through the testing of the build through 9 to 15 fights.

I mean, it's interesting.. .just work intensive. Avid char-builders may like it, though.

Nearly ready to post Jezebel vs. Alistar.

I also have char-sheets from Gnasher, Arian, Lazarus, and Morskitter.

@ level 4, we have Rolg and Elinora.

Well, this'll be interesting. :p

Yep, will my challenge match with Ritti be up soon?

I hope so. Mbauers found a couple of problems with my submission; I just sent them back over to him earlier today. So as soon as he can check over it (and approve it), he should be able to set us up a fight. :)

Lazarus, you don't have anyoen challenging you, but if you don't want to wait until the next round of randomized fights, Arian hasn't had a challenge this round, has he?

Actually, I'd be happy to, though I'm busy Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday, so if we can't finish our match until Monday and Mbauers is fine with waiting over the weekend, we can get started shortly.

I live in England so I can make a few posts over the next few hours, though I did send you one last PM Eben, if you don't mind checking it! :)

Thanking ye.

I closed out Bout 4 in Pit One with victory to Alistar Nodd.

Pit One now has a challenge match up between Morskitter and Ritti. Good luck!

So Choon and Gnasher need a challenge up too, right? When I can I'll try to go through and "officially" close out all of the fights that are down.

@Eben--I actually had a challenge fight against Liane in my last match. However, if we give ample time for people to submit their characters and there's a lull (i.e. Lazarus and I are the only two ready Level 3 characters), could we count as a "randomized" match or just waive the challenge/randomized matches alternating rule?

Arian is 1-2 with 0 VP, it's not like I'm exploiting the system or anything, hehe.

Sorry I missed that. Just responded. :)

Replied and detailed all info you need, so I'm ready to go. :)

And I got Alistar and Jezebel up in Pit 3!

would you mind going into pit six and closing out the elinora/rolg fight as well?

Yah, it's probably bad form for me to close out Pit 2, as well (as Rafiki was mine).

Scarab Sages

Buno and Esmeralda have been submitted to Pit Boss

The Man. The Myth. The Mask!

And, as a reminder, I am available should any adjudicating parties wish to murder each other.

Jezebel is posted in Pit 3

It's appreciated. I certainly won't say no to someone else helping out.

I do wonder if we'll hear from Jehova soon. I'm hoping something came up IRL (as opposed to suddenly deciding this game wasn't fun/worth it). I guess we'll see.

Me and Choon could use a Pit for our Bruno Vs. Gnasher match.

Agreed, but I'm still waiting to hear back from him about some questions I had about his build. As soon as I get a response and feel that the build is 100% up, you'll get a pit. :)

Alright. I'll be out of town for part of the weekend, though I think I should be able to get in a post per day if nothing else. Though I could find myself without internet service as well, so I just wanted to get things started as soon as possible.

Ok. I'll kick it off, and if Bruno's little discrepancies become a problem, we'll deal with it. I want to keep things rolling if possible. I'll set you two up in Pit 2.

Bruno! Gnasher! Get your butts in Pit 2!

Scarab Sages

It's fights like that that produce a strong urge to re-build Bruno. Well done you crazy goblin.

Yah, that little gobbo is vicious once he gets going.

Also, anyone watching this massacre in Pit One? Sheesh...

I have a sudden sympathy for fish in barrels everywhere.

Are myself and Mbauers playing Monday? :)

I'm hesitant to begin allowing multiple challenge matches for a gladiator between randomized fights. It's nice for the speed of play for players who have more availability, but it also means some players can get more arena-time, which can mean they get a chance to out-pace their competitors.

Id like to hear from everyone, though, on this issue.

Should multiple challenges be allowed between randomized matches for any single gladiator? Yes or no?

I haven't actually had a challenge match this round yet. I'm still waiting for both a challenge and randomisation. Not so sure about Mbauer's though. :)

Mbauers has. If there is another 3rd level who hasn't, feel free to challenge them.

I'm strongly against multiple challenge matches between randomization matches. The fact you can only do one between each randomization match helps give a balance to the system.

It helps prevent people from picking and choosing their matches to their benefit.

Also, it helps prevent people from being penalized if their match takes a bit longer than others.

Well, if any level 3 characters haven't been challenged yet, I'm up for the challenge, otherwise I'll be too far behind and will only be facing level 4 people. :/

As people have a character that reach level 4, they get the chance to make a new character at level 3. So I would not be too worried about not having characters to face off against. The people that have to worry about that are those that have characters that are ahead of the flock in terms of level.

True enough, though it means the people who get less challenges/fights are at a disadvantage, because challenging multiple people isn't allowed to ensure everyone has the same amount of fights, but when there are less people to challenge, those who are left are at the disadvantage of having less VP to level up. So, unless challenges are out and we only get randomised fights...which would solve the issue, situations like this will constantly put participants at a disadvantage sadly.

I myself like the challenge matches. It helps give people a chance to court their own course, while the randomized matches give them that unknown factor.

Yes, unfortunately everyone does not always get a challenge match for one reason or another. (Not enough contestants or not enough time before the next Randomization.) However, this should happen to very few, if any, contestants each time challenge matches come up.

I might suggest that if it does happen to someone during one round of challenge matches, we try to make sure it does not happen to them again during the next challenge match. However, remember that you can challenge people outside of your level.

Or just swap one person out each time to keep things fair?

It's boring for the other player, but then if we take it in turns to stand out a challenge match when there is an odd number of players, it keeps things fair.

That or we could have 2 challenge matches for competitors who have already had one when facing one who hasn't...but then that competitor doesn't get a challenge round the next match.

Might work ok.

Wouldn't hurt if somebody bumps the recruitment thread a bit. Bring some more players in.

Guys, checking in, I'm alive, I am several states away from where I live and have been unexpectedly without internet for several days now. I am back to civilization but am headed back out tonight. I have not read the new posts here yet, but will read through when I'm back tonight and will update things that need it. Sorry for delayz.

Woop, just read the PM from Eben, seems like people are keeping things going without me. I will figure out things when I return, hope you're all well.

Scarab Sages

Good to know you're alive man. Eben and mbauers are keeping your seat warm for ya. :)

Alrighty, I am back to the internet though still away from my home base. I'm very glad you guys have kept this going while I was MIA.

You may have all noticed that I go missing more frequently than I probably should. This is the only place on the forums that I'm currently active, and since I'm not involved in the gameplay myself I sometimes totally forget to update things (as I did last week before I left the internet. Anyways, in terms of the future of the administration of this pit, I am completely willing to either continue being in charge, to give some of the load to Eben/mbauers/someone else, or to give up all administration and join back in as a player. I am here to try to make this an enjoyable and illuminating sort of PbP, and whatever you guys feel is good I am completely down for. I would be fully willing to share the access information for the Pit Administration account if necessary.

I'll check back in later, things seem to be rolling here for the moment and I have many things to go do.

Scarab Sages

As creator, I feel you should maintain some rights to "chiefness" and have Eben/mbauers/other appointees as management (able to set up randomized, etc). This is kind of already happened organically. Therefore you can join as a player and have one of the other Arbitors (Eben, mbauers, myself) moderate it. I trust any of us to not take advantage of the information we are given. And not just us four, but most if not all people here would be fair about the competition that is this arena, I feel.
All that to say, I like how this is flowing. Let's just ride the tide.

I'm ready for another randomized round whenever we get to it.

I'm definitely ready for a randomization with Arian.

No one else is Level 5 yet, right? If anyone is getting close I'll update Shigeharu.
