Have a drink my new friend.

I only use spoilers since I'm used to some skills being useful to have other than perception..although looking, Ari has none of those. (In another game, DM prefers to roll forgeries, bluffs, sense motives so we don't know how well we did/what we missed).

Here is a proposal for combat that, in my opinion, makes the whole combat process a little smoother and more friendly to the PbP environment. This is just a proposal. If most of you wish to run combat per RAW, then it shall be so.
Proposal 1: Upon combat start, I will roll all initiatives and take the average for both the party and the foes. The two groups then act on alternating turns. The party members post as usual and your post order for that round is how your initiative falls. This means, if you want to delay until after someone, simply wait until they post. Conversely, if you want to open combat, everyone waits for you to post. If you wish to interrupt or delay until an enemy acts, simply state so in the fluff of your attack action and I will apply your action at the appropriate moment on the foe's turn.
I will also do end of round posts to make sure we are all on the same page going into a new round.
Thoughts?
Proposal 2: known AC's
Some people wish to know the target AC of a foe in order to flavor their fluff to match their roll. Thoughts?
Proposal 3: Split party encounters.
With so many of you (and so many martials) it will be very easy for you to mash any CR= or CR+1 I throw at youall. Do youall mind if I (sometimes, not constantly) provide opportunities for the party to pursue two goals at once, thus splitting the group and increasing the challenge for both portions? Heavy spoiler use would be employed in this instance.
Thoughts?

I don't really like averaging the inits, but grouping inits is pretty normal for PbPs. That is, if party members A and B go before enemy 3, they can post in any order and then the DM will post for enemy 3. That said, if you find it easier to average, I won't complain. :)
I prefer not to know ACs or other enemy information unless my character does, but I'm perfectly able to separate player and character knowledge, and I have DMs that do it both ways.
I strongly support your third proposal - I think with a group this big, splitting us up is going to be the best for keeping things moving and keeping people interested.

Pelgrev |

I'm flexible.
I have never averaged initiatives, but I am willing to give it a try.
I also prefer not to know AC, but can play either way.
The third option is totally ok. Makes sense both thematically and mechanically.

Freia |

Ill chime in and add to what Ariana said - the last one seems like fun and number two might not have that big of an impact. But the first one seems like it could hurt those who spent alot of resources going first. On the other hand I can see the arguments for it since pbp combat tends to take a long time.
Count that as two positive votes for 2&3 and a maybe to 1.

Johnny Porters |

I like 2 and 3 but not the average initiatives. Just like the others said about putting things into going first.
But like knowing if I hit and how many HP the enemy has in order to not have to have everyone go on one enemy to find out the first guy knocked him down.

Freia |

I must say that I admire Pelgrevs views on life - very zen.
And now for something completely different. I will be visiting Ye Old Rpg bookshop this weekend and was thinking that I could brush up my knowledge about Magnimar, do anyone know what sourcebook that contains good information about the city? Was thinking the Inner Sea campain/setting guide but are there other better books or would that be my best bet?

Pelgrev |

There is a specific sourcebook. Magnimar, City of Monuments
I'm running Shattered Star for my IRL group, so I got it. I think it has a lot of great stuff. Magnimar is a really cool locale.
Thanks for the compliment. I'm trying to go for the noble savage/natural wisdom vibe...

GM Choon |

Alright, the general consensus I'm feeling is a no on the averaged Init. I'm cool with that if youall are.
How about this for a compromise on known AC's: I'll put it in a spoiler. If you want to know for proper flavor, it's there for you. If you want to be suprised by by end-round description of your move's success (or lack thereof), don't look.
As for split encounters, *evilly steepled fingers*.

Ariana Rosencruz |

Sounds good to me!
Edit: I would like to add that I don't really care what order PC actions are resolved in, just that Ari's initiative lets her go before the enemy. With all the AoE debuff/control she plans to drop though, watch out allies :P

Noro_Kas |

hey all sorry bout absence went to see Thor 2 tonight.
liked the Capt America cameo. oops spoilers
also I didn't realize this until later (guess I am out of the loop) but the bad guy was played by the 9th Doctor from Dr Who

Ariana Rosencruz |

I'm definitely for grouped initiatives; if PCs have to go in order, combat gets REALLY slow.
In the other PbP games I've been in that lasted (1 really, up to a year now) we do initiative in order but don't wait for others to post. We'll say what our characters are doing for the round, possibly with a few caveats: i.e.: "If Enemy A moves next to me, I do Y, if they don't then B."
In the game I' DMing, I have the player's post "Round X" on the top of each post to keep track of actions for rounds and I re-post initiative with every one of my posts along with a Round X listing so everyone can keep track of where they are in initiative and what round we are on for buffs/etc. If say, every PC but one or two has posted their actions and the round started 24 hours+ ago, I'll DMPC their actions. Usually either avoiding any of their limited use abilities or doing what they requested their character does on any given DMPC round. For example, one of them always uses the same ability if he is DMPC'ed while the cleric wants to heal anyone about to be downed. It keeps things moving quickly with us finishing at minimum 1 round a day, some days 2-3 rounds.

Pelgrev |

Saw Thor this morning. Not bad. The Cap cameo was solid.
One of the all-time comic hooks in the follow up. :)

Freia |

Will Freia be getting tatoos aswell ? No need for anything fancy but it will ease her mind to have some - so that she is not outcasted here aswell

If I may ask; What kind of person would show any emotional interest in a kobold?
One reason I picked Korrith (besides loving kobolds) is because as a strange, inhuman race, I thought it significantly less likely that I'd get tangled up in whatever romance scenario might happen. I know it's exceedingly unlikely, but then I remember humans' Racial Heritage feat. I do know that in fluff, kobolds are slow to form actual friendships, and romance typically does not happen in their society, due to... Well, the mortality rate.
I also know that some NPC's try to get a PC in bed with them (I have read Runelords), and that PCxPC things happen. I'd rather not get entangled in such things.
This whole thing was probably very, very awkwardly worded, but whatever.

Freia |

@Voyd Well we know for sure that there are all kinds of weird and 'interesting' people in our own world*, so its probably safe to assume that there is a bunch of them in Golarion aswell - considering its abundance of magic and other mindmelting stuff.
But on the other hand, neither I came here to play some steamy second rate fanfic. And I think others would agree with you and me, while some will not. Nevertheless, its good that you made your feelings clear : )
*There is a subreddit dedicated to dragons *ahem* "making love" *ahem to cars. A friend directed me there once - never again!

Freia |

Yeah - I think we are safe :P But I felt that I might aswell address the issue when it was bought up. On the other hand, emotional attachment is like a core part of prgs - trusting ones life to eachother and all that. Besides, which adventure party would not want an pyromaniac alcoholic kobold as a mascot and figurehead ^^?

Eye doctor = dialation = late post. Again, apologies.
Your tattoos are thus:
Pelgev: Woven into your tribal tattoos and scarring are several branches of a withered tree. Midst the bark are the words of your crimes.
Noro: Your tattoo looks like a set of iron rods running the length of both your arms. Graven into the surface of the rods are your infractions.
Johnny: Yours cascades down your chest in the style of a waterfall, your crimes spelled out in the falling torrent.
Ariana: Your crimes are written in a delicate, elegant script starting behind your ears at the base of your skull and falling down the tops of your shoulders.
Korrith: Yours are noticeably less elegant than most of the others as there was no way to turn just part of a scale permanently black. It runs in rings down your arms starting just below the shoulder.
Zayid: Your crimes are tattooed to the back of your hands and fingers like gloves.
Freia: Your tattoo runs from shoulder to shoulder across your collar bones. It is a unique pattern of clouds forming abstract scales, a crying face, the right hand of justice, and a symbol of death.
We will move on when everyone's asleep.
