I am recruiting for The Heresy of Man three part series, to be run as part of Gameday VI. The goal is to run the finish the first two scenarios as part of the Gameday. All three scenarios are tier 5-9, and this game will be played at high tier. This series is from Season 2 so I will be limiting the game to 5 players max, and one of the slots is already filled.
My preference is for players available for all three scenarios. Those that want to play only one or two will be considered on a case by case basis, but I will give priority to those that will play the whole series.
You can check in HERE. Recruiting will be open for a couple of days and I will roll for winners.

Now recruiting for 5-19: The Horn of Aroden
This will be starting Thursday and will be a faster paced run. My goal is to wrap this up somewhere during the beginning of GameDay 6 (i.e. before I get so deep in Solstice Scar that I find myself buried).

On my phone but interested, I have a 1st level brawler that can go.

Apparently my post to this thread got eaten, although at least my post to gameplay made it up. Anyhow...
Redelia, JAF0, d'Eon, Ietsuna, Great Green God and I'm Hiding in your Closet can check in here.
Some of whom already have... but I'm lazy and copy/pasted the list...

Bigguyinblack |

You kind of pointed out the issue within your request. A lot of core characters are already assigned to core games and players want to avoid overlap. Not to mention some players have signed up for a fair few games overall and don't want to risk spreading themselves thin.
That being said I have a Druid 8 that doesn't have a game until October.
I also have a Bard 2 that could jump into a 1-5 assuming it os something I haven't played yet. Like Horn of Aroden Core :)

Will Huston |

I've been thinking of starting GMing some PBP stuff, and I was also thinking that it'd be a good place to GM core stuff (since my hometown isn't big enough to support the two campaigns and none of us are veteran enough to need to replay stuff. We're far from running out of stuff)
Is there anything specific you'd want to play, Turmoil?

The Mad Poet |

I was also thinking of GMing some low tier stuff, apart from game day, but not CORE. I don't know much about the scenarios, not having been able to participate much in PFS, so I was thinking of picking three season 8 levels 1-5 scenarios. Thinking about it, I could possibly do them as part of game day if GMs are still allowed to register games. Is that a thing I could do?

GM ShieldBug |

Although the deadline for session 1 has passed, if you still want to take advantage of scenario support, the deadline for session 2 isn't until the 4th of September. But, yes, if you already own, or are willing to buy a scenario, you can still sign up for session 1.
Here's a link to all the relevant info ;)

GM Hmm |

Just get your game registered. There has been a slight holdup on Paizo's end. The expected Season Nine Scenario Support form is not available yet, and I am not allowed to use the Season Eight form for a Season Nine Convention. So... I haven't been able to submit it yet. If you get your scenario in quickly, I will likely include it in my scenario support request to Tonya.
Submit it ASAP!
Thank you,
Hmm
PS The others are correct... You can always submit a game past the deadline if you own it already or plan to purchase it. All that matters is that you register it, and that the game starts and ends within the PBP Gameday Window.

Good. I was wanting to dedicate all my attention to the special hence I didn't put up any games. I tend to run mostly CORE with few standard games inbetween.
I also own most of the scenarios so I can just submit one if and when I feel like running one.
(No more confirmation, wounded wisp and First steps for me.....)

Magabeus |

I would love to sneak a core game in in session 1 of PbPday.
There is a local scene for Core nearby and I want to catch up to them levelwise.
Unless they are only meeting once every several months I would not count on catching up to them by playing by post. Most scenarios take somewhere between 1 and 2 months to resolve through PbP.

GM Redelia |

I just set up recruitment for a Gameday game of Crypt of the Everflame. Recruitment can be found here.
I prefer dungeon crawls most of the time as both a player and GM, and this one is just too much fun to leave out for others who agree.

I greatly appreciate the offer, but I found a game for my Core character. Someone dropped from a game and I was able to take the slot.

Well, I'm still gonna GM something Core. Luckily since I'm an VA I don't need adventure support.
For Gameday, I assume we should not do lotteries, and just first come first serve? Or is it up to us?

Hello everyone!
I am GMing my first PBP as part of Gameday VI.
I am running Masks of the Living God and my recruitment thread is here. The game will start September 2nd, although I may open gameplay a few days earlier than that.
I will be selecting the team from the applicants based on characters, background, and an attempt to send a balanced team.
If you are interested, please apply in the thread.
Thanks!

Hmm ok maybe mileage varies, I tend to open a few tables of a game at a time, so there's a fair few seats on offer - when you offer out 12+ seats they tend to go that bit slower.
I suppose I also hate missing out on particular scenarios :p
Anyhow, it's a pet hate. I understand and accept contra points of view :)

![]() |

Although most of my games run on a first come first serve basis, it is mainly because I generally am not opposed to running multiple tables of the same scenario. Considering how I hate turning players away, this tends to be the case more often than not for me. However, I posted my WBG series as lottery simply because I wanted to make sure that I was not overloading my bandwidth for Gameday.
I too can see both sides of this coin. A lot of people miss out on first come games, and I have also noticed that you tend to end up with a rather smaller pool of regular players that get the games because they are consistently online. This to provides another double edged sword.. you end up with a lot of the same players, but you also end up with players that post regularly and help push the game along.
All that being said, I really do like the recent push to "reserve" a few seats at each table for newer or less experienced players. This is certainly something that I will be offering from now on. If we can get more of these newer players at tables, it would encourage not only the growth of PbP and the Flaxseed, but also widen the pool of applicants by giving these players a reason to be online.

I go back and forth between lottery and FCFS. My last 2 recruitments were FCFS, but I do frequently use lottery. I haven't been GMing here too long yet and I like to get some more variance in players. I tend to put up recruitment in the late afternoon to early evening pacific standard time, and as a result I usually get the same crowd signing up first every time. I do however always like to extend special invites to people before opening a lottery, and I also give my previous GMs what I call a lottery freecard, meaning they automatically get selected the next time they sign up for a lottery game of mine. When I do run a lottery I keep it open for no longer than 24h.

I'm running a non-gameday Confirmation table that anyone can sign up for here (link)
Please read the main post, new players are encouraged to apply. My goal is to have this done before Gameday, so make sure you're commuted to a decent posting rate please.
(This is partially because I'll be busy enough with games, come Gameday, and also because I need to assign this GM credit as soon as I can :p )

GM Hmm |

\o/ Woohooooo! That's pretty exciting! I know you mentioned previously that we're unlikely to get the scenarios until the week before the event - do you think that still holds true? o:
One week's the usual norm. Cosmic Captive dropped three hours after I submitted the support request (That was unusual! I hadn't even gotten a chance to send out my acceptance emails to GMs yet!) For most in person conventions that I do, scenarios drop the week before.
I'm hoping they release them to us before GenCon, but I know that Tonya et al. have a ton to do yet for that convention and the pending Starfinder release. In all likelihood, we'll see everything the week before.
Hmm

GM Deekan |

First I would like to apologize to the GM's tables that I was playing at and for the players who were originally set to play at the tables I was offering. The last few months of life have been absolutely brutal to me(understatement). Lets just say I had a run of bad luck of which I haven't had in a long time. With that being said I am back and it feels good to say that. I once again will open recruitment for The Glass River Rescue.
I will leave recruitment open for 48 hours for the original players who were supposed to play at my tables. If after that they do not want to claim their spot then I will open recruitment for everyone else.
You can post there or use my sign up sheet below. If you notice it is full check back in 48 hours. If the original spots are not claimed then it will be open for everyone. Now let the games begin.

I know we're still a little over a month away, but the sooner everyone is checked in, the better.

(Not aimed at anyone in particular)
Personally, I hate lotteries. I won't run them, and I am reticent to 'apply' for a game offering them - I'm pretty set on 'first come first served'.
I agree, and honestly I find the Lottery system to be bad for the community as a whole. For new players, well really for everyone, but in particular newer players, it makes it difficult to find an actual game, and I've seen and heard of plenty of cases where players loose out on multiple games because they where not sure if they where in on one or two, withdrew their places in another, and then didn't try to get into another, and turns out they didn't get picked in any lotteries.
I've also run into situations where my entire table, as a DM for a completely different game, had to get swapped around because folks found out that they had won lotteries in different games, and needed to change out characters, but now had issues with the Tier, and caused everyone else to change out characters, or even move around to the other Tier game I was running. I try not to turn people away when I can find another option.
I've also seen a few cases where I suspect the DM simply swapped the names around to conform to certain players getting slots based on the dice rolls of the lottery. Can't say for sure, but it sort of seemed that way. Or a few times where the DM forgot to include a player, and they got skipped, as it was too late to replace someone else that had already been told they got in.
Anyway, it's also a pet peeve of mine, but I understand others like it. I think it would be better all around to either offer to run another table, or offer the game outside of Flaxseed first, and then maybe using Flaxseed to fill in empty seats, (see below).
The problem with that is that many games fill up in less than an hour. If people aren't logged on at the right time, they miss out. Doing a lottery gives people a chance to get into the game, even if they aren't logged on at the particular moment that the GM posts the game announcement.
True, but this is also why I go out of my way to post games on the main forums first, so that more people have access to them than just those that frequent this thread. I think that is the main issue, honestly, (it certainly has both pros and cons), in that because so many games are posted here exclusively, those people that know to look here or are often searching for the next game have an easier time finding them. But a lot of folks go looking into the Online Recruitment thread, the place where games are intended to be posted, and often don't find anything, or they are already filled up.
It somewhat gives off an elitist mentality, where those that frequent this thread have significantly better chances of finding games, but those that are not familiar or do not use it are sort of left out.

^ I am taking off my VL hat for a moment to give my boyfriend's game a shameless plug. (I figured that I better announce that personal bias up front.) Bret's a great in-person GM: knowedgable, friendly, dedicated. He never quits anything. This is his first time GMing PbP, but he's played in several Play-by-Posts. He's still looking for players, so if you know of some good ones to send his way, please do. It's a great module, with a GM that will not quit out on you or disappear.
Okay, shameless plug over!

I think that people here should continue to employ both sign-up methods as they see fit. I have done lottery once when GMing and didn't like it, so am now exclusively first come-first served, but there are definitely merits to both methods.
As for GMs rigging the lottery... really what should be done is they just have less lottery slots to begin with and have the players they know they want already picked out. That way if the GM has, say, 3 players they want to pick, they can just have 3 slots left up to the lottery. Being upfront about that stuff is probably for the best. I do this on my games sometimes as well. "This person asked me to run this... they're getting a slot."
Really, there's no right way to do this as long as it is pretty fair, and both methods are. And if someone doesn't like the method, they don't have to sign up for the game. Simple as that.
TL;DR: Both methods are fine.

Okay back with the VL hat on again. I agree with GM Andrew.
Quite frankly, every single recruitment method is problematic. Everyone of the methods also has its advantages.
First Come First Serve:
Pros: It is the easiest to implement.
Cons: It gives a tremendous advantage to those of us (myself included) who live on the forums. You are likely to draw from the same small group of people over and over.
Lottery:
Pros: It is fairly easy to implement, and randomizes things so that you can get people who are not the same ones over and over. It can give more people a chance to play.
Cons: It can be frustrating as heck for the player base, because of the uncertainty involved. They can enter many lotteries and not get in.
Recruitment Threads where the GM Picks:
Pros: The Gm can often get a balanced group of good players. This is what I often do.
Cons: My gosh they are a lot of work, and there can be bad feelings of rejection for those players that do not get in. Also they feel elitist.
Invitation Only:
Pros: You pick awesome players with whom you have played before, and you get a great team that you know you can rely upon and enjoy. My guess is that 70-80% of PbP games are filled quietly this way and are never announced unless someone drops and they need a replacement. Often, if I get a table that I liked the first time around, I invite them for a second game. I suspect that other GMs do this too.
Cons: You don't get to discover awesome new players this way and vary the group.
_____
I started up with First Come First Serve for my Table 1 of Starfinder, mainly because I have not done that in a long time and it is PBP Gameday with lots of seats. Then I had three people drop, and so I opened a lottery for the remaining seats, with two of those reserved for newcomers. Why? Two reasons. One. I have never done a lottery. I figured it was about time. Two, I keep hoping that Paizo will print the blog that I Wrote about PbP Gameday so that we'll get another influx of new players looking for seats.
All of the methods of recruitment have their issues. I am not going proscribe or recommend any single one. GMs can choose which ones work best for them.
Hmm

For another perspective, as a mobile user I only look here for games, so I never see games that only recruit in the recruitment section.
