Hi, everyone! Please don't mind me, I want to practice my dice-rolling a bit.
{dice=Roll]1d20
{dice=Roll a weird die?]1d280
{dice=Two dice]1d20+7;1d8+1
Neat, I didnt know that two dice trick!
Take 10: 10 + 23 = 33

EbonFist wrote:For a god to be your Patron, do you have to have divine spellcasting levels or can you just pick them? I know revering a god is a thing but I can't remember the rules. It is all on page 25 and 26 of the Guide to Organised Play. The important bits, assuming you are not a divine spellcaster and receive no mechanical benefit connected to a deity:
Characters can worship any deity listed in the table of gods in the Core Rulebook, Pathfinder Campaign Setting: The Inner Sea World Guide, Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Gods and Magic, or any other source listed in the Additional Resources document.
AND:
Regardless of class, each character must have an alignment within one step of her deity’s alignment.
I saw that section but I am thinking about a magic item (The Dawnflower Sash) that says that a particular god has to be your Patron. It seems like this section used to be longer and include information about worshiping and revering and patrons but I may be thinking of something else.
My question is - Is Patron a mechanical term that requires some other criteria or is declaring that my character worships that god enough to make that god his Patron.

Patron is used in Inner Sea Gods to denote the deity that your character worships. The only mechanical requirement is to be within one alignment step; Sarenrae is NG, so you need to be one of: LG, NG, CG, or N to use the dawnflower sash.

Thank you!
On a semi-unrelated note, what is the most radical rebuild people have done on their 1st level character.
I just rebuilt one for the second time that started as a 1st level male Half-elf Summoner but I built him using the APG rules before I realized that was illegal so I rebuilt him as a female Sylph Occultist (Sha'ir) before ever playing him. The second adventure I played her in had a very interesting boon for Spiritualists so I rebuilt her as a male Oread Spiritualist (Haunted.)
I'm mostly just curious to see what people have done and why.

I turned a Dwarf Rogue into a Human Druid because I decided I didn't like the former character.

I know people who want to play a Wizard but will do their first level as a Barb' w. power attack to get to level 2 "easier"... my personal take is that this is not using the rules as they are intended.
Otherwise, when DMing for new players, I often push them to play with 3 different PreGens (Kyra, Valerios, Merisiel...) to get a taste for totally different play styles.

Most of the time I use the level one to test out a character, and just do small tweaks. However one of my characters switched from a mechanically really capable occultist named Gadget to an undine HellKnight because I needed a story hook, and it was just dead to me on the first go. Gadget was great with skill and combat... But I could not make her personality and story work for me, so I let her go.

I've used the level 1 rebuilding to do the following:
1. Test out a character. (Honestly wish this were available sooner than it was in the campaign. There's one character I would have totally changed. As of right now he's abandoned at level 3.)
2. Have a character who fits in with a particular party. Don't think combat monster barbarian here... more party fit. (Like bringing a healer when you don't have one, or a wizard if there isn't an arcane caster)
I've seen people use it to make the ol' barbarian at level 1, but I don't have much of a problem with it. It's only level 1 that it affects anyway.

With lots of pbps using first come first serve as their recruiting I built a well rounded and mechanically strong strength 18 level 1 life oracle with a longspear that I could apply to pbps with.
I must have played that same character build through close to a dozen confirmation/wounded wisp pbps turning her into all sorts of different characters.

I don't really get the notion of deliberately playing a totally different character at level 1. Level 1 is part of your career and history. How do you rationalise being a STR 20 barbarian and then being a STR 7 wizard?
I have made minor tweaks here and there. I played a character as a mad dog archetype barbarian at level 1, switching to scarred rager archetype at level 2 when I multiclassed hunter. I did this because I wanted the animal companion to be a central feature of the character from the start: the companion helped the character escape from slavery and they bonded as juveniles.

*snip*
Easy.
Character went to college before leveling up to L2, sat in the dorm room, read a LOT of books, that great strength went to the Abyss in a handbasket.
The reason they did that? Because they were tired of feeling like a complete dumb-ass on Society missions and decided to get some good ol' 'book-larnin' on the Society's dime.

In the past, before I had lots of characters already built and designed through level 11, it came up a bit. I would find I unexpectedly have time to attend a PFS event and the only opening was at the level 1-2 table. So I pull out one of my noobie builds*, whichever seems most appropriate for the table composition and play that. Once I'd get 3 chronicle sheets on a dash number, I would have to decide on a concept and build before playing it again.
It wasn't so much I don't like level 1 or didn't feel I could survive level 1 as much as I just didn't have any particular concept fleshed out yet.*Noobie Builds - I have 4 different chatacters that use only the CRB but are better than most of the pregens. I hae passed them out to players that don't yet know how to build a character. They can be used as a starting point or are perfectly viable to continue as a primary build. And since I only used the CRB, they are still valid for a CORE character.

I don't, it's not the same character.
Benevolence went through her confirmation and it was an epic story.
Hydris Bane, the Halfling Medium had an uninteresting Confirmation and comes on screen as a fully confirmed level 2 Pathfinder Agent. Thanks to some GM credit in addition to that confirmation game
They are both -12, but are not the same character.

This. When I rebuild a character it's because I didn't like the concept I was playing with or the way I was trying to reach that concept. To me they're different characters.

Ironically when I clicked the link for the website went down. It is significantly more stable however, as when I can get on at least I'm logged in and able to post.

I rebuilt a Ranger to a sorcerer so I could use a boon she got at first level. In her backstory her powers suddenly manifest making her previous profession no longer a good fit. She still carries a sword even though she can't use it well.

I was playing in a low-level module, the only character I had with <3 XP was not appropriate at all, we needed someone with better than starting equipment, and I didn't have any GM credit to use. So I did a rebuild on my inappropriate character to make her a better fit, went through the adventure, and did a restore at the end. The flavor text description I used involved her physically transforming at the start and transforming back at the end, referring to taking advantage of "...a certain plasticity of form that comes with youth...."

CyberMephit hasn't been around for a couple of weeks.
His Stolen Heir game: http://paizo.com/campaigns/TheStolenHeir/gameplay
is essentially over. We think that the game is at the point where we just need someone to close it out and issue chronicle sheets, although it is possible there is another conversation to be had.
Can someone give us a hand?

Thank you, Redelia. For those who didn’t get a chance to read the blog about Online becoming a region, Redelia is our new Flaxseed VA. Magabeus is the new VL of Play-by-Post, and I recently got a promotion to Venture Captain. There are other Online PBP VOs as well. Woodenman is the new VA for RPGgeek, Zinou for Pathfinder-FR, and Mike Hallet remains the awesome VA for Mythweavers. Our Online team has greatly expanded as a result of Tonya’s post.
Back to the abandoned game of Wounded Wisp... It started out as a PBP Gameday game, and because of the abandonment, I am willing to give the new GM and players a time extension for that game and still allow it to be part of the gameday if it is reported in advance by November 17th, with all boons rolled! Given that they are only in the first encounter, new players could join at this point for full credit if they join right now.
Yours,
Hmm

Ninja'd!
I have taken over the game, but I have a few questions.
First, is there a way to give me GM status in the campaign? I'm not quite sure how adopting them works, but it would be helpful if it could be done. I can do without, though. Secondly, Hmm, does your above post mean I should report the game once all players are checked in? I believe I can edit the session once we finish and figure out how everyone did (and if they survive...*break to maniacal laughter*), but until then should I just put in their names and numbers?
Did you inherit a play-by-post?
If you are the GM for a play-by-post campaign but didn't start the thread, please email customer.service@paizo.com.
We need:
A link to your profile page (click on your name at the top where it says "Welcome, your name!"
A link to the gameplay and discussion threads for the campaigns you have inherited.Just copy and paste these links from the address bar in your browser, please.
Hope this helps.
