So I'm reading part 3 of Wrath of the Righteous, and the Worldwound has patrols of rift drakes with incubus fighters for riders. Reminded me of this campaign a little!

Heh nice! No more WoTR spoilers though please, I am playing in it.

It'll be five years before we get to part 3 at the rate it's going, but yeah.

Lantern Lodge RPG Superstar 2014 Top 4

Oh, you are? That's awesome! I'll lay off the spoilers then :D

Yeah, Teladon organized something before he dropped off the boards. The dude Fanguar is running it. But we've only been getting like maybe one GM post a week or something.

DM, can we discuss what should be done here, or do you prefer we keep it IC? I don't mind either way. I just want to know what are our options.

Talk OOC all you want, but it needs to come to resolution IC.

Female Human (Taldane) Fighter (Trench Fighter) 3, Paladin (Divine Hunter) 7

So, there's a lot that could be going on here. Nymphs aren't typically evil, so it's possibly a demon in disguise or a corrupted fey that was twisted when the worldwound opened.

Jelani: Are there any knowledge checks we can make to help arm us better in the decision? Demons aren't usually about pacts and bargains (at least the upheld kind), so it raises some alarm flags.

Can someone closer to the Nymph with detect evil scan the area to see if she really does have "friends" nearby or if it's a bluff? We should assess this as best as possible.

I suppose I could allow a knowledge (planes) check to gather some info, but since none of you rolled the knowledge nature, none of you recognize her nymph aspect in character.

Demons aren't usually about bargains, no, but the fact that she's a demon is an assumption on the group's part. Also, she could be lying, or using some other kind of magic like the Glabrezu did. The only information gathering action a PC has taken so far is Crissor discovering that she's evil (which he never actually said out loud). If he does it again he can check 60' to either side of the road, or go swimming to look further. Anyone can roll sense motive, or any other kind of thing they can think of.

I'm not giving away any freebies :P

Female Human (Taldane) Fighter (Trench Fighter) 3, Paladin (Divine Hunter) 7

Yeah, I don't have the Nature skill to make the check. Does Abigail? Somebody's gotta. I'll throw out the Sense Motive in a post in a moment.

@Viorel- I use a Chrome Extension called Lazarus, it saves all text typed into boxes like forum posts, very handy.

I'm ok with the agreement.

I actually did say if she pinged evil he'd let out a warning, otherwise he'd be eating with her right now. I'll check the side of the roads, but no way is Crissor going swimming, if he doesn't have to.

Ah, sorry, I missed that. It's a somewhat moot point now since you know she's got critters out there and we've got a majority for the deal.

Female Human (Taldane) Fighter (Trench Fighter) 3, Paladin (Divine Hunter) 7

Oh my God, the desire to throw that DEVILMACE to Barek and have him turn her into a jelly lump is growing.

Awesome job of making her obnoxious as all hell Jelani. If we survive that far, defeating her is going to be sooooo satisfying.

-evil smile-

Female Human (Taldane) Fighter (Trench Fighter) 3, Paladin (Divine Hunter) 7

Uuuuuuuugh this is so hard. The more I think about this situation, the more I honestly don't think Liette would willingly sign that contract, given that the loophole allowing Paladins to work with evil forces is that it is against a greater evil, and-- I'm honestly not sure which evil is greater.

Compounding the fact is that we don't know if this is just some slobbering chaotic-evil demon in disguise who will just "lol" at the -4 penalty applied by the contract when he invariably breaks it.

But, the alternative is being instakilled, exploding into giblets, and writing up a new character. This on top of the fact that we can't actually negotiate with her for better terms/one time passage through because Diplomacy/Intimidate is locked out.

I honestly don't know what to do now.

I don't mind you playing Liette as you see fit. We all will do that. Of course, we could all die, but that's never a certainty, and it makes for great drama!

You could take more steps to prove she's not a demon. A slice with a demon-bane weapon? Detect magic? Dispel magic?

I will not instakill you, but she did come well prepared for a fight.

Edit: Another thing you could do is touch her. If she's under an illusion spell that would give you a save to disbelieve. Or even more mundane, ask her what she is.

Somehow none of those options occurred to me. I have an idea for a post, I'll get it up today after lunch.

Please note that I'll be unable to reliably post until Tuesday. DMPC as needed.

So if I got this figured right 65,000 - Crissor's gear I counted up and it equals 18,030 so he gets 46970 gp worth in platinum.

Definitely still here. I've been reading the thread, enjoying the Sybelle quandry (she's a fun, wicked NPC) and am looking forward to entering the fray.

As far as introducing my character, in game, is the addition of one or more new members something the existing party will decide? Would the party be keeping their eyes open for worthy additions to the team? Is there some official means by which they'd seek new members? Or is it as simple as striking up a conversation at the bar and saying "hey, would you like to join forces"?

Yes.

Sounds right buddy, minus your share of the items sold. Though in the end it will work out to the same amount, so I guess there isn't really a need to even sell the items. Yay meta-game systems that I invented to keep my life easy :P

Staff of master.

So that is a bit too expensive right now, even if I would have the money. But I am contemplating on saving chunk of my money to get it later. Anyways the question is that would you be willing to stat up one for evocation? I mean it is a custom item but even the description says that there is one for each school they are just not statted up. Basicly pick 1st, 2nd and 3rd level evocation spells and done.

I suppose I could do that, yes.

Male Gnoll Paladin (Divine Hunter) / 10 HP: 85/85 AC:24/14/20

Oh goody, Ring of Sustenance, A Cloak of Resistance +2, Greater Bracers of Archery, and a Headband of Alluring Charisma +2 is what's on my mind for shopping items. Anybody got any other advice?

Female Human (Taldane) Fighter (Trench Fighter) 3, Paladin (Divine Hunter) 7

So I have some things I want to do with Liette, but I want to check with you first on them.

1) Bringing Sigmund to the cathedral of the Inheritor to have him tended to long-term while the group is out adventuring (and until Liette can get her next feat to take Leadership and claim Sig as a cohort.) I could easily write that out as a vignette, unless you'd rather GM the scene itself. Also, anyone who would like to accompany Liette to the cathedral is welcome.

2) Once I assess how much cash on hand we have, purchase some upgrades for Liette's equipment. Specifically, I'm looking at getting holy on both of her firearms, which would be expensive (and take time), but would boost her damage output versus DR/Evil significantly. For the party: How long are we planning on spending in Kenebraes? Are we in a hurry?

3) ELEMENTAL POWER: I don't know how feasible this is, but if we can pitch in for a scroll of greater planar ally, could we conjure and bind the services of an Elder Air Elemental for the purposes of serving as a locomotion for our glider? Basically, instead of it being Nathaniel-powered, we have it elemental powered. Air elementals aren't incorporeal, Elders have a 28 strength (and we could get Muleback cords for it) and can fly like a motherf*cker. Does this seem like a worthwhile idea? Would it be cool to have a mobile elemental assault platform?

Female Human (Taldane) Fighter (Trench Fighter) 3, Paladin (Divine Hunter) 7

Also, Jelani I forget, are we in Commonplace Guns or Guns Everywhere?

The glider has muleback cords built in, and you can get a belt of ant haul for relatively cheap

1) Yes please! One of your vignettes would be awesome.

2) Stay as long as you like, I won't activate the curse on your contracts unless you actively start planning to do something other than kill the giants.

3) What would you offer it in return for permanent service? Or are there mechanics somewhere for binding it permanently? (Not aware of any off the top of my head.)

AOO:
[dice=AOO Unarmed]1d20+13[/dice] [dice=Damage]1d6+4[/dice] #1
Group Boni:
+1 morale bonus to attacks rolls while charging; +2 morale bonus on saving throws against fear
Human Cavalier (Luring Cavalier) 7 / Monk (Zen Archer) 3 (HP 81/81; AC 25/20/23; F+13/R+10/W+15; CMD 33; Perc +26; Init +2)

Kenan will buy the following items:
-Enchant his bow to holy
-Enchant his gelt of giant strenght to Belt of physical might (Str&Con +2)
-Cloak of Resistance +3
-Amulet of natural armor +1
-Enchant his Ring of protection +2 to Ring of protection +2 and sustenance

Female Human (Taldane) Fighter (Trench Fighter) 3, Paladin (Divine Hunter) 7

So I just looked up both planar binding and planar ally and it looks like they top off at one day per caster level. B#$##~+s! The only other option there would be to actually find an elder elemental in the wild and use diplomacy or charm monster on it to compel it to be out friend/getaway car.

DM, I have a question: I've seen some people use the spell Greater Magic Weapon to add qualities like Flaming, to an already magical (let's say +1) weapon, or the other way around, with a +2 enchantment used to turn a +1 flaming into a +2 flaming.

Is that possible? When I read it, it doesn't seem so.

In my case, I'm wondering if I can use the spell to turn a +1 weapon into a +1 Bane (that seems possible), or into a +1 Holy (really not sure), or to turn a +1 Holy into a +2 Holy (really not sure).

Let me know what you prefer.

You could Greater Planar Ally an angel/good outsider of enough power to have an Elder Air Elemental in his employ, and ask for its services. At level 10 in a demon crusade, it's not impossible.

Lantern Lodge RPG Superstar 2014 Top 4

Iiiiiinteresting idea.

Female Human (Taldane) Fighter (Trench Fighter) 3, Paladin (Divine Hunter) 7

Also, repeating in case it was missed, are we using Commonplace Guns or Guns Everywhere? I can't calculate Liettes gear value until I'm sure how much her revolvers cost. I forgot >_>

GM Arkwright wrote:

All obviously OOC since my character still hasn't met y'al

At that point, are there any angels/achons/azatas who would pull it? Or assign one (or a team) under their command to pull it?

Depending on the weight involved, a Bralani might do just as well (and still has 100' perfect flight) though they only have 20 STR. Don't know if that + chords + ant haul belt would do the trick, but if not maybe a small team of Bralani?

I also don't know anything about this glider but how exposed is the party, assuming the drivers get taken out? (He asks after one of y'all recently fell to his death.)

AoO:
[dice=AOO (large cold-iron demon-bane bastard sword)]1d20+16[/dice [dice=Damage]2d8+10[/dice 1
Warped Demonspawn (custom tiefling) Invulnerable Rager 10

Adding Furious Enchantment to Sword
Selling Agile BP+1
Buying Adamantine Demon-Defiant Light Fortification Agile Breastplate +3

Commonplace guns, it's on the campaign info tab under the character creation spoiler.

As for employing an outsider who's then going to permanently lease you an air elemental powerful enough to lift the glider, unlikely.

The glider is a wooden framework shaped like a manta ray with netting inside it. The passengers would strap themselves to the netting. On the bottom there is a backpack thing for a humanoid to strap into and lift the glider.

Two new guys, insert yourselves into The Watchful Blade (a prototypical fantasy tavern with a buxom red head dwarven bartender who worships Cayden Caliean? However you spell that s$@*). Then RP your way into the party. Right now I think Viorel is the only one in the tavern, but I'd encourage the rest of you to congregate.

Once everyone has their purchases finished please list everything on your sheet along with its value, and any gold left over, so I can make sure it's right if I need to.

Female Human (Taldane) Fighter (Trench Fighter) 3, Paladin (Divine Hunter) 7

Thanks!

I'm ready to intro my new character anytime, just waiting to see the party show up in the tavern. I imagine hearing y'all talking about your successes (or woes or shiny new glider) and then for my character to come introduce himself and win his way into your hearts.

Same as gyrfalcon.

Note that my new character does have another travel option for the group, one as fast as an elder air elemental but not flying.

No, the spell works RAW. So at 10th level it would add a +2 enhancement bonus to a weapon. If the weapon is already enchanted it would overlap with the weapon's enchantments taking whichever is better.

Ie, if you cast it on a +1 flaming longsword, it will become a +2 flaming longsword for the duration of the spell. I'm not sure if that's written down anywhere, but that's how I'd run it.

Grrr...a friend of my dad's from his childhood passed away in Bama so I have to drive him down, so I won't be back until Wednesday, maybe Thursday.

Sure, we're not in a hurry right now.
