Merry Christmas Everyone!

Male Gnoll Paladin (Divine Hunter) / 10 HP: 85/85 AC:24/14/20

Merry Christmas

Female Human (Taldane) Fighter (Trench Fighter) 3, Paladin (Divine Hunter) 7

Hi All!

Just to give you guys a heads-up, I'm super busy because of the holidays and haven't been on the Internet outside of my phone in a few days. I'll be delayed in updating things till this weekend, most likely, though if I manage to steal a little time here and there I will!

I hope you all had an excellent week! :D

Sorry to hear that Barek is out. Jelani, do you have plans/thoughts for a replacement? The front line is looking pretty lean, even with a new summoner to bring his friends along.

Well...I supposed I could recruit a frontliner. I know someone who wants to play in this game.

I'm not sure if I really want to go back to eight players though. Maybe the frontline is lean, but with two animal companions and a metric s+*+-ton of ranged damage I'm not sure you really need another frontliner. Especially now that Thaddeus will be able to call up herds of celesial aurochs and such to clog the battlefield, and Tik will be controlling the battlefield with ease. Lets see how a couple combats go before we try to introduce anyone else. Now that you guys can teleport relatively easily it shouldn't be such an ordeal getting back to Kenabres.

Kenan, don't forget to call your new mount. If you want a new mount that is.

Thaddeus - Everyone is back in the Watchful Blade, please post to ask to join up.

Everyone - I want to get this moving, please post any questions you have for the commune within 24 hours. After that I'm going to take the questions people have agreed upon and have Aroden make up the rest if I have to. He's evil but he's also curious what he's getting into, and mainly this game has been stagnant for way too long now.

Glad to see things moving :)

Male Gnoll Paladin (Divine Hunter) / 10 HP: 85/85 AC:24/14/20

Rock on, let's get rolling

Male Human (Brevic) Master Summoner 10

Sounds good, i'll work hard on something in the morning.

Awesome.

Re, Questions for communing, a couple changes I'd suggest:

  • I'd start with the spying question(s), because if we get a YES we'll want to devote some questions to followup on details.
  • I'd change these two Qs from "Are the fiendish desert giant followers of Lamashtu in the Worldwound magically spying on us? Is the nymph Sibyle magically spying on us?" to "Have the fiendish desert giant followers of Lamashtu in the Worldwound spied on us since we've returned to Kenabres?" and "Have the nymph Sibyle or her minions spied on any of us? since we've returned to Kenabres?" (removing 'magically', in case they've used other means, changing 'are they' since it might suggest 'right this moment', and adding Sibyle's minions in case she's outsourced the spying.
  • If we get a YES for either of these, we want to ask follow up questions, trying to identify how, and what they've learned, and what they can detect. e.g.:
    - Have they been spying through magical means?
    - Is there anything on one or more of us that is enabling this spying? (or some better Q(s) to help us figure out if/how we can counter their spying)
    - Can they hear us? Can they see us? (or some other Q(s) to determine what they do/n't know or can/t find out)
  • I don't think "Are the Order of the Nail looking for the mace?" gives us much value, though if we can't think of anything better I suppose it's fine as a final question (and Tiknesr won't argue if someone wants it sooner).
  • I'd put spying clarification above any others, if we have to knock any off the list...though hopefully the answer is that noone is spying on us.

  • That sounds great Tiknesr!

    Happy New Year!

    Happy New Year.

I'm back. I had a very busy start in the new year, but now it has calmed down.

I had mentioned, that I wrote a letter to my people, asking for a new mount, when we arrived at the keep. In it I told them, that we had problems with flying enemies. Is there any answer to it?

I guess I missed/forgot about that. What specific mount do you want?

We talked once about a roc.

Yeah, you can have a roc. I’ll let you describe it’s arrival.

Btw, if needed, Abigail could call a flying companion as well. I was waiting to see how we would be traveling.

Tiknesr has 10 min/day flying (and at will feather fall as insurance). He actually wasn't kidding about riding an even bigger rat -- though it's got no better means of survival than a mule so the first AoE spell will likely kill it.

Depending on party tactics it might make sense for him to fly behind someone on their mount instead. The key thing for me is that he'll often want to spend his move action cackling and his standard casting or hexing, so riding along with someone on a mount that gets him close-but-not-too-close to foes might work great...if that's anyone else's strategy.

Mmmh... Come to think of it, I don't it it will work with Mammoth Rider though. Something to keep in mind.

Male Human (Brevic) Master Summoner 10

I possess Phantom Chariot and Teleport; we should be able to get some nifty movement out of those.

Female Human (Taldane) Fighter (Trench Fighter) 3, Paladin (Divine Hunter) 7

Liette's had s&$& luck with horses, so I think she'll wind up sticking with Thad and the Phantom Chariot. The less she has to walk the more she can pew pew pew. If Kenan's Roc is big enough to hold two riders I could go for that too. DRONE STRIKE, SKREEE.

It's only large, so it might be able to fit two people, but as for flying with two people, that' defies physics too much for my taste.

Technically it's carrying capacity might be enough, but that totally wouldn't work. You know, gravity and all. If it were flying through magical means I'd probably allow it, but since it's not.... :/

    Roc Animal companion (HP 66/66; AC 33/15/27; F+9/R+12/W+5*; CMD 30; Perc +9; Init +5)

    Roc ready. Arrival will follow.

Hehehehe, applying physics to fantasy birds big enough to carry off elephants seems like a slippery slope. See this week's What If? blog (and in particular the reference to the square-cube law).

I'm not actually disputing you saying a roc companion can't carry two passengers...but any line you draw there other than it lying on the ground gasping for air isn't going to be terribly rooted in physics.

...which (going further afield) reminds me of Samuel Delany's Tales of Neveryon series: a brilliant twist on/deconstruction of Sword & Sorcery books. It includes dragon riders...but in his world dragons are tragic misfits of evolution & breeding, completely unsuited to life in the wild. They can glide down from cliffs but need to be carried back up there, and if they land anywhere other than smooth ground, their wings are likely to get ripped like a kite.

    I love those articles!

On the square-cube law, the book Newton Rules Biology is quite informative.

Hey, if it was a huge or larger Roc I'd totally be fine with it holding more people. But this one is only horse sized.

...and I really wasn't trying to argue for a particular carrying capacity, just pointing out that looking too closely at the physics of monsters is a bit of a rabbit hole.

Yarp. I try to do it as little as the little science guy in the back of my head will allow me to. :p

    No problem, Jelani.
I know this litte science guy. Unfortunately 6 semester of studying material sciences let him grow to abnormal sizes.

Kenan, sorry your post got eated!

I really try nowadays to compose in a Google doc so that even if my computer shuts down suddenly what I've written is saved in the cloud.

Alternately, if you're using Firefox, the Lazarus form recovery extension works well too.

Thanks. Yes I use firefox. I'll test Lazarus.

Anyone have something else to discuss with our new bestie, the paralictor? If not...what do y'all want to do with the 70K? I'm not assuming that Tiknesr gets a stake in it, since he just joined and wasn't part of rescuing the mace. However folks decide to use/divide it though, let's spend it.

After that...We have a hot lead on where to try to track down the desert giants. Is there anything else left to do before we head out? Is there something to roleplay out about Barak leaving, or anything else?

Looking forward to sending Tiknesr into the hell of war with y'all.

From my end you guys are ready to go after the giants.

Male Human (Brevic) Master Summoner 10

Thaddy hasn't much to say; not sure how to split 70k, but Thad does have Craft Wand so there's a possible channel for capital direction.

I intended the loot to be split seven ways to take you to half y0ur next WBL.

Female Human (Taldane) Fighter (Trench Fighter) 3, Paladin (Divine Hunter) 7

I'm honestly thinking we should invest some of that 70k in scrolls of resurrection. At least one per party member.

Also, I agree we're probably ready to head out after the giants. But we should probably try to ICky resolve Barek's disappearance before we depart.

What resolution are you looking for? ICly, he just left without telling anyone. He’s probably holed up somewhere suffering the effects of breaking his contract.

That’s not necessarily satisfying but I’m not really keen to RP him. I’d rather just outright kill him if that more satisfactory.

Lantern Lodge RPG Superstar 2014 Top 4

As long as we know where he went and I guess why. I can't imagine any of these characters letting someone disappear without investigating a little bit, given how tight they've had to become--and because Barek's an essential part of the team, too.

I agree that we wouldn't let him off so simply, but we would also understand if we heard that he just left and not disappeared.

This can be dealt through narration from the DM: "Having found out that... the compadres..."

Not sure about resurrection scrolls. But I'm willing to rally, depending on the opinions of others.

Liette, how many scrolls are you suggesting? I could see us wanting 1 or 2 total. You mentioned 1+ per party member, but just the diamond dust is 10K/scroll, so we couldn't afford that much even if we wanted to.

Jelani, how do you feel about +1 stat boost belts/headbands? The item creation rules just say "Ability bonus (enhancement) Bonus squared × 1,000 gp". The only items listed in the books are +2/4/6. I've heard arguments for and against allowing them. Given that +1 tomes exist, and plenty of things exist that give -1 (or -1d6) to an ability, I don't see a reason to disallow them...except that they are a cheap way to get a score barely high enough for an additional bonus. If allowed, Tiknesr may get a belt of +1 dex (or dex+con).

Female Human (Taldane) Fighter (Trench Fighter) 3, Paladin (Divine Hunter) 7

Gods, I forgot how much the diamond dust cost. I guess two could be a good investment in that case, unless anyone has some spare cash to make up the difference for a Staff of Life (90k ish).

Oh hey, it looks like I made it in as an alternate for the Top 32 of RPG Superstar this year!

If you're following the contest, keep an eye out for me :)

Cool! I had to luck up what the contest is, but now that I kno about it (and know that you're a contenter!) I'll be following along.

    Good luck!

Due to a disqualification of another competitor, I'm now in the top 32!

Grats man :) Your item was pretty creative.

I entered one year but I wasn't a very good writer back then. I need to start working on ideas for next year now.

You totally do, I think you'd do great. You've got a really solid head for cool mechanics.
