Hi All!
Just to give you guys a heads-up, I'm super busy because of the holidays and haven't been on the Internet outside of my phone in a few days. I'll be delayed in updating things till this weekend, most likely, though if I manage to steal a little time here and there I will!
I hope you all had an excellent week! :D

Well...I supposed I could recruit a frontliner. I know someone who wants to play in this game.
I'm not sure if I really want to go back to eight players though. Maybe the frontline is lean, but with two animal companions and a metric s+*+-ton of ranged damage I'm not sure you really need another frontliner. Especially now that Thaddeus will be able to call up herds of celesial aurochs and such to clog the battlefield, and Tik will be controlling the battlefield with ease. Lets see how a couple combats go before we try to introduce anyone else. Now that you guys can teleport relatively easily it shouldn't be such an ordeal getting back to Kenabres.
Kenan, don't forget to call your new mount. If you want a new mount that is.
Thaddeus - Everyone is back in the Watchful Blade, please post to ask to join up.
Everyone - I want to get this moving, please post any questions you have for the commune within 24 hours. After that I'm going to take the questions people have agreed upon and have Aroden make up the rest if I have to. He's evil but he's also curious what he's getting into, and mainly this game has been stagnant for way too long now.

Re, Questions for communing, a couple changes I'd suggest:
- Have they been spying through magical means?
- Is there anything on one or more of us that is enabling this spying? (or some better Q(s) to help us figure out if/how we can counter their spying)
- Can they hear us? Can they see us? (or some other Q(s) to determine what they do/n't know or can/t find out)

Happy New Year.
I'm back. I had a very busy start in the new year, but now it has calmed down.
Kenan Borjigon |
I had mentioned, that I wrote a letter to my people, asking for a new mount, when we arrived at the keep. In it I told them, that we had problems with flying enemies. Is there any answer to it?
Kenan Borjigon |
We talked once about a roc.
Tiknesr Th'th'th'th'slifp |
Tiknesr has 10 min/day flying (and at will feather fall as insurance). He actually wasn't kidding about riding an even bigger rat -- though it's got no better means of survival than a mule so the first AoE spell will likely kill it.
Depending on party tactics it might make sense for him to fly behind someone on their mount instead. The key thing for me is that he'll often want to spend his move action cackling and his standard casting or hexing, so riding along with someone on a mount that gets him close-but-not-too-close to foes might work great...if that's anyone else's strategy.
Liette d'Argent |
Liette's had s&$& luck with horses, so I think she'll wind up sticking with Thad and the Phantom Chariot. The less she has to walk the more she can pew pew pew. If Kenan's Roc is big enough to hold two riders I could go for that too. DRONE STRIKE, SKREEE.
DM Jelani |
It's only large, so it might be able to fit two people, but as for flying with two people, that' defies physics too much for my taste.
Technically it's carrying capacity might be enough, but that totally wouldn't work. You know, gravity and all. If it were flying through magical means I'd probably allow it, but since it's not.... :/

Hehehehe, applying physics to fantasy birds big enough to carry off elephants seems like a slippery slope. See this week's What If? blog (and in particular the reference to the square-cube law).
I'm not actually disputing you saying a roc companion can't carry two passengers...but any line you draw there other than it lying on the ground gasping for air isn't going to be terribly rooted in physics.
...which (going further afield) reminds me of Samuel Delany's Tales of Neveryon series: a brilliant twist on/deconstruction of Sword & Sorcery books. It includes dragon riders...but in his world dragons are tragic misfits of evolution & breeding, completely unsuited to life in the wild. They can glide down from cliffs but need to be carried back up there, and if they land anywhere other than smooth ground, their wings are likely to get ripped like a kite.
Kenan Borjigon |
No problem, Jelani.
I know this litte science guy. Unfortunately 6 semester of studying material sciences let him grow to abnormal sizes.

Kenan, sorry your post got eated!
I really try nowadays to compose in a Google doc so that even if my computer shuts down suddenly what I've written is saved in the cloud.
Alternately, if you're using Firefox, the Lazarus form recovery extension works well too.
Kenan Borjigon |
Thanks. Yes I use firefox. I'll test Lazarus.

Anyone have something else to discuss with our new bestie, the paralictor? If not...what do y'all want to do with the 70K? I'm not assuming that Tiknesr gets a stake in it, since he just joined and wasn't part of rescuing the mace. However folks decide to use/divide it though, let's spend it.
After that...We have a hot lead on where to try to track down the desert giants. Is there anything else left to do before we head out? Is there something to roleplay out about Barak leaving, or anything else?
Looking forward to sending Tiknesr into the hell of war with y'all.
Liette d'Argent |
I'm honestly thinking we should invest some of that 70k in scrolls of resurrection. At least one per party member.
Also, I agree we're probably ready to head out after the giants. But we should probably try to ICky resolve Barek's disappearance before we depart.

Liette, how many scrolls are you suggesting? I could see us wanting 1 or 2 total. You mentioned 1+ per party member, but just the diamond dust is 10K/scroll, so we couldn't afford that much even if we wanted to.
Jelani, how do you feel about +1 stat boost belts/headbands? The item creation rules just say "Ability bonus (enhancement) Bonus squared × 1,000 gp". The only items listed in the books are +2/4/6. I've heard arguments for and against allowing them. Given that +1 tomes exist, and plenty of things exist that give -1 (or -1d6) to an ability, I don't see a reason to disallow them...except that they are a cheap way to get a score barely high enough for an additional bonus. If allowed, Tiknesr may get a belt of +1 dex (or dex+con).
