Smilodon. Nice imagery! It's still Big Cat as far as Animal Companion, right?
Thanks for the instant summon! I fear it means hard times ahead though...
Yeah, it would just be a big cat stat wise.
I'm not that cruel. I already killed one PC, an animal companion, and made you guys blow the majority of your hero points today.

And almost all my spells!!! Not sure how I'll cure myself...

I'm at the moment in vacation in austria. Unfortunately the web access is very limited. I'll try to be online every other day. The only place where I can go online is the lobby of the hotel.
I'll update Kenan tomorrow.

So I just got my copies of the Worldwound/Demon Hunter's Handbook yesterday. Jelani: How much of the Worldwound book are we going to be using? Some of the geographical stuff is really awesome, especially the random encounter tables/weather.

Probably not much, but the weather especially was one thing I was considering using after this current trip back to Clydwell.

As I'm moving towards a heavier investment in my animal companion, and since I'm realizing that the next feat it will get is when I am level 13, I'm thinking of two things:
1. Reviewing my AC list of feats. No implications as it hasn't really started acting yet.
2. Reviewing my last feat taken at level 9: Combat casting.
I'm thinking it might be interesting to take a teamwork feat with my companion. I'm not finished exploring what this could be, but it's a project I have.
DM, could I retrain Abigail's last feat? Any feat?
Any feedback is welcome!

Kenan is now up to date.
He has taken another level of cavalier.

Would you be so kind as to update the map with the locations of the enemies since they should be now visible? Since I got my breath weapon ability back, I would like to know if I have the opportunity to catch multiple ones in it or where I need to move to get into range for the ray.
Might be even more important for the melee folks since difficult terrain is most of the terrain.

I have no problem with another player.

Hi gyrfalcon here. Robert, hopefully seeing who the mysterious new player is doesn't change your vote. ;-)
Rolling stats now. I'll draft a character in the next few days to be slotted in whenever makes sense.
6d6 - 1 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 5, 2, 1) - 1 - 2 - 4 = 14
6d6 - 3 - 3 - 3 ⇒ (5, 3, 3, 4, 3, 3) - 3 - 3 - 3 = 12
6d6 - 1 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (6, 4, 6, 2, 2, 1) - 1 - 2 - 2 = 16
6d6 - 1 - 2 - 3 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 3, 2, 4) - 1 - 2 - 3 = 15
6d6 - 2 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 4, 6, 2) - 2 - 2 - 2 = 14
6d6 - 3 - 3 - 4 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 6, 5, 3) - 3 - 3 - 4 = 15
Well, that set of rolls is a strong incentive to go for a MAD class...but we'll see what ideas take hold.
Looking forward to joining y'all!

I'm a big fan of oracles, flavorwise, and haven't played one before so that's a definite possibility. I *love* druids but I'm playing one (Unafe Two-Hearted) in Crusty's Road to Damnation.
Jelani mentioned off-thread that some more serious battlefield control wouldn't hurt -- and I've never played a witch or wizard in Pathfinder -- so I'm also thinking about a witch. Ideal stats for that would have included *something* above a 16...and wouldn't need so many other above average roles...but I could certainly make a strong witch with those stats (possibly going for a bigger headband than I normally would at 10th level).
So far I've been bouncing between foggy ideas for mechanics & backstory/personality (as I often do) and haven't settled yet on either for certain. I've found more than once that -- as a personality takes hold -- the class or race for the final character changes completely. That said, today I've been smiling at the image of a ratfolk with a ratling familiar. I love how (while next to a person a ratling looks quite ratlike) on the shoulder of a ratfolk the familiar's human face and hands would make it seem more like a rat with a human familiar. Maybe he's call it a "manling".
And alternately, a rat with a cat (silvanee) familiar would have some nice irony as well. ;0)

One thing that'll help as I play around with ideas:
I've been reading the gameplay thread (and there's a lot of fun reading there) but holy crow, y'all have been going a long time! Given that there's no recruitment thread (and even if there was one, the character of the party and it's goals might've drifted over time) I'd like to make sure I've got the big picture. If any of y'all want to write a short intro/summary, I'd love to read it. Especially,
- What your overall goal is, or what ties the group together. Are you still a chartered team of crusaders, under the auspices of the larger crusade?
- Anything else you think would be useful to hear in terms of crafting a character to join in (less around mechanics, more around story)
Thanks!

Right now, they are still working on clearing enough land for a wardstone. They've got 2.x hexes/4 cleared. The biggest issue they've run into recently is a clan of fiendish desert giants and their demonic, and draconic allies (whose leader had a brief window of seeing through Nathaniel's eyes/ears, which led to a whole s%@&storm of consequences).
They are still chartered under the Crusades, but they haven't been back to Kenabres in a while. In my version of Golarion (for this game anyway), the crusades are basically over as far as armies of soldiers are concerned. Queen Galfrey is just trying to get as many adventurers (or anyone else who can fight) into the wound on the promise of rich rewards for killing fiends, and the possibility of being granted title should a group manage to clear enough land for a new wardstone.
Practically speaking, your party is the only awesome one, and everyone else dies off or quits shortly after entering the Wound. So there's a enough traffic to sort of maintain the progress the party has made, and keep those lands mostly clear, but you guys are going to have to do all the hard work.
Other than that there's no real plot.

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed.
Next question: can you give me guidance on how many spells I/my familiar will know? I know the default/minimum is
A witch’s familiar begins play storing all of the 0-level witch spells plus three 1st level spells of the witch’s choice. The witch also selects a number of additional 1st-level spells equal to her Intelligence modifier to store in her familiar. At each new witch level, she adds two new spells of any spell level or levels that she can cast (based on her new witch level) to her familiar.
And that
A witch’s familiar can learn spells from another witch’s familiar. To accomplish this, the familiars must spend one hour per level of the spell being taught in communion with one another. At the end of this time, the witch whose familiar is learning a spell must make a Spellcraft check (DC 15 + spell level). If the check succeeds, the familiar has learned the spell and the witch may utilize it the next time she prepares spells. If the check fails, the familiar has failed to learn the spell and cannot try to learn that spell again until the witch has gained another rank in Spellcraft. Most witches require a spell of equal or greater level in return for this service. If a familiar belongs to a witch that has died, it only retains its knowledge of spells for 24 hours, during which time it is possible to coerce or bribe the familiar into teaching its spells to another, subject to GM discretion.
It seems likely that at 10th level I've learned some spells from other witches (and/or scrolls)...but how many extra at what levels?
| DM Jelani |
To keep it even with wizards and because I don't really know how else to do it, I'm going to say that you can just pay scroll prices to learn as many spells as you want. Any witches you might have learned from just happened to demand an amount of money equal to a scroll of the spell they taught you.
