I can see wanting transportation aboard ship. Vyre is in the region, and we may well want to go there.
Having the captain or first mate accompany us on a day's adventures would be help with an unforeseen emergency, such as a PC being captured.
We may think of something specific When we get news of Rexus.
We'll likely want to save a favor or two for "other specific favors written into future adventures".
A favor for cash to buy equipment would be more valuable now than later; 2000 GP is a significant amount at 6th lvl, not so much at 12th.

Given that we have eight favors, should we use one now for 2000 GP? Lubella is certainly a bit light on cash for equipment. Interested to hear everyone's opinion.

Getting some cash now wouldn't hurt, and it's an easy way for the captain to prove that he indeed wants to help us. Talvek could also use a mithral chain shirt, and once we clear out the Lucky Bones we'll need some funds to fix it up.

A mithral chain shirt is definitely the right armor for Talvek. An important point to note: the rebellion needs 35 more supporters to reach rank 8; at that point, each PC gets a gift: "At rank 8, the gift is a piece of armor or wand worth 1,200 gp or less." Lubella will be using that for a mithral chain shirt. My sense is that freeing the Shellet twins (and possibly Marquel) will give us a surge in new supporters, so I'm hoping rank 8 is not too far away in game time. In the meantime, Talvek can get Mage Armor from Lubella's wand; the purpose of the wand is to bridge the gap until we get to rank 8.

Another thing to consider for Talvek is a mithil rapier (cost 1020 GP), to overcome DR/mithral. Note that a mithral weapon is automatically masterwork.

We could consider an Oil of Magic Weapon for Talvek to overcome DR/ magic and to damage incorporeal creatures. Lubella doesn't need a magic weapon for a while, since she has Arcane Strike (note that a FAQ confirms that arcane strike allows non-magical weapons to damage incorporeal creatures).

Also note that Lubella borrowed Talvek's amulet of natural armor +1 for the Lucky Bones, but I haven't written it on her sheet. I forgot to explicitly say she was returning it afterwards.


Slides/maps

The gold may not be bad idea at this point. You may have a few other things to sell. Loot has been a bit thin (so far) and some missed. The rebellion check is a couple days away. Supporters may go up or down, depending on certain actions, but generally has been going up. In-character, it may be worth waiting a couple days and adjudicate the team actions etc.

The favors are there for using but may come in handy later too.

Some of the favors have a time factor, so you may not be able to collect on more than one (per week etc).

I will wait for Arcos and Aldren to update their status lines before we continue in any event.

Can a witch learn new spells from a wizard's spellbook? The rules that I can find cover only learning from a scroll, or another witch's familiar.

In contrast, an Investigator can learn spells from a wizard's spell book. I'm not 100% sure if Talvek would be able to learn spells from Arcos' spellbook — the warlock spellbook is specified as working like a magus spellbook, but is that close enough?

Since we're discussing accommodations, I'll point out that Arcos has the Safe House social vigilante talent. I don't know if the location has been specified or not, but it's something we should keep in mind. Of course, it would be up to Arcos to decide if he wants to mention it at all. In any case, we should be careful to keep the location a secret.

Re: Rexus -- One option that occurs to me is Helping Hand. I don't think I'd be able to follow the hand (and nobody else can see it except for the target), but it could accomplish three things:

1. If Rexus isn't within 5 miles, the hand returns and displays an outstretched palm. In other words, we knows he's either not in the area or he's dead.
2. If Rexus is within 5 miles, the had will continue to beckon him for the duration then disappear. Put another way, the hand will not come back to me if he is alive, in the city, and refuses (or is unable) to come back.
3. Theoretically, if Rexus is curious, he'll follow the hand. (Very unlikely given that he has hidden his plans from us but theoretically possible.)

I can also memorize another Locate Object.

Are there non-spell related solutions we're not thinking of? Gather Information?

Sorry for multiple posts but I'm looking at picking spells and was wondering if anyone needs special healing (e.g., restoration, disease, etc.) Tentatively leaning towards the following (with a heavy lean into more Enchantment spells):

I like the idea of another locate object, and scanning Redroof. He at least is familiar with the abandoned Fair Fortune Livery (all though the feral dogs may still be there).

If Rexus has been captured, he might be imprisoned at Castle Kintargo.

We could spend a day searching through the cultist headquarters and cleaning it. I would imagine there is a fair amount of stuff there to go through and clear out. We could make preparation to unseal the door the following day; that way we wouldn't have to worry about memorizing combat spells.

I should explain about the dogs at the Fair Fortune Livery, since only Acros and myself were in the game at that point. There were three feral dogs living there, who all failed their save against Rexus' color spray, and were knocked unconscious. We tied them up, and untied them on our way out (we had heard rumors about Barzillai Thrune's new 'doghousing' torture, so we weren't about to turn them in for the reward). So they could still be there, unless someone else later captured them and collected the reward.

I think Rexus should be the priority, especially since we think he might do something rash (and therefore risk us all), or has already attempted to do so and is now captured (see earlier risk).

That said, clearing out the cultists and setting up a new HQ (with the Torrent showing us what's behind the door) would also be good.

With eight favors and if 2000gp is a benchmark, it might be feasible to ask him to free his slaves, too. At the risk of being insensitive but just talking about rules and mechanics, a “specialized” slave is the most expensive at 500 gold per person. Asking to to free all three would still be less than the equivalent of 2000gp.

It’s not something Aldren would think of on his own, but I think he’d support it.

Lubella did enquire with Scourge of Belial about the halflings on the Scourge of Belial, trying to confirm if they are slaves. Hopefully she got some sense of his attitude towards them, and perhaps what it might take to obtain their freedom.

We don't know for sure where Rexus got his medicine. He was known to visit Songbird Hall, the Newt Market and the Alabaster Academy when he was sick. We asked at all those locations, but didn't learn much (read the posts following the linked one for a couple of pages). We also checked Crissali’s Fine Tomes; Rexus tried to buy a scroll of lightning bolt there. We seemed to always be a couple of days behind Rexus.

Here's our initial to-do list as I see it:

1. Move the Order of the Torrent to the Lucky Bones. Sweep the area again for danger, just in case. I can't remember if there's an alter that we haven't checked. Clean up the bodies. Optionally, do a quick search for things we might have missed.

2.Examine the body at the Devil's Threads. Get details on where other murders occurred.

3. Scan the Castle District for Rexus' cane.

4. Go to the Wasp's Nest and give teams detailed instructions on how to get into the Lucky Bones.

We don't necessarily all have to go together for all of these. For example, Lubella can handle the trip to the Wasp's Nest. I'm thinking that we should do 1 first, possibly sending one PC to escort Hetamon back to the Devil's Threads. Then maybe all meet up at the Devil's Threads?

Just to confirm/clarify, the only penetration issue I'm aware of with Locate Object is a sheet of lead. Is there something else?

DESCRIPTION

You sense the direction of a well-known or clearly visualized object. You can search for general items, in which case you locate the nearest of its kind if more than one is within range. The Vigilante Safe House social talent blocks locate object (meaning that Arcos' Safe House could be used to hide known items). Discern Location seems to be the most powerful divination along those lines, but that's an 8th lvl spell.

I suppose there could be AP specific effects.

Of course, there's no guarantee that Rexus and his cane are in the same spot — his jailers could have taken it.

For sure there are other spells/effects that would block it; I just want to make sure under the terms of the spell itself we’re all on the same page. Like, detect magic can only penetrate 1 foot of stone, but the only corollary here seems to be the sheet of lead.

@Aldren, correct. As far as the Locate Object and physical (non-magical) obstacles and range.

The Helping Hand has other limitations and does not (directly) convey if it found its target. But you can make some assumptions based on what happens to the spell.
