I would say yes from the square Lubella is in, but probably not from outside the door (the two doors/frames are also partially blocking but not precisely shown on map. Keep in mind, Sidius does not know where the leader (or wasp for that matter) is at the start of his turn.
Quote:FAQ on Confusion:
The latter interpretation is correct: protection from evil only works on charm and compulsion effects where the caster is able to exercise control over the target, such as command, charm person, and dominate person; it doesn't work on sleep or confusion. (Sleep is a border case for this issue, but the designers feel that "this spell overrides your brain's sleep centers" is different enough than "this spell overrides your resistance to commands from others.")
Oof! I'd quibble, but that's the official FAQ so that's the rule. Sorry, Talvek. :(
GM Aarvid |
Yeah, I am not a fan of this either. Ironically, that does work to Sidius's benefit with his sleep/slumber hex being exempt as well.
Aldren Halfblood |
Totally. And I get confusion as a domain spell eventually.
Lubella Heathertoes |
Can you confirm the DC vs Hex? I think it was higher than 15?
I think Sidius' hex DC is 17 (10+5 (int bonus)+2 (1/2 Witch level).
Sidius Consano |
17, sorry.
GM Aarvid |
Its all good. :)
BTW - Fhingle is still around, but moving this week. I will bot him another round or two to keep kids safe.
Lubella Heathertoes |
With the AoO damage, Fhingle could end up taking a fair bit of damage from the Life Links.
Life Link (Su): As a standard action, you may create a bond between yourself and another creature. Each round at the start of your turn, if the bonded creature is wounded for 5 or more hit points below its maximum hit points, it heals 5 hit points and you take 5 hit points of damage. You may have one bond active per oracle level. This bond continues until the bonded creature dies, you die, the distance between you and the other creature exceeds medium range, or you end it as an immediate action (if you have multiple bonds active, you may end as many as you want as part of the same immediate action).
Lubella has 40 health left, so Fhingle could drop her Life Link if the incoming damage becomes a major issue.
GM Aarvid |
Thanks - I just could not remember how many of the party he established bonds with...a few or all.
I will have him heal himself if he can since he is botting for the next couple rounds and really hasn't taken an action.
GM Aarvid |
Too much happened today with Independence Day and family. I will post tomorrow. Stay safe.

Murderous Command on the Wasp. It affects one "creature" so hopefully will work. Will Save DC 16
Unless it counts as vermin:
Vermin possess the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature’s entry).
Mindless: No Intelligence score, and immunity to all mindaffecting effects (charms, compulsions, morale effects, patterns, and phantasms). A vermin-like creature with an Intelligence score is usually either an animal or a magical beast, depending on its other abilities.
Also, may not stack if you have a deflection bonus from another source, but don't forget Protection from Evil on Lubella, Talvek and Aldy.
Good point! If the giant wasp is evil (it did smite good after all), then I think it missed Lubella (her AC would be 24: 10+4 mage armor+6 dex+1 natural armor+1 size+2 deflection). In that case, she didn't take 17 damage, and doesn't have enough wounds to trigger Life Link.
Aldren Halfblood |
GAH! Well... probably a lost turn then. If Aarvid lets me do something else, then great, but understandable if not. Aldren does not have any knowledge nature so...
Sidius Consano |
If she's CL 12, then I'd have expected a level 5 or 6 spell to blow us into itty bits.
Aldren Halfblood |
Nah, she’s just buttering us up. ;-) I’m guessing CL 15 or 16. What’s the cleric spell that rips your heart out of your chest (that Aldren is really looking forward to getting)? Yeah... that’s coming next round, I’m sure of it.
Seriously, nice roll. Hopefully we can put the pressure back on her now.
Lubella Heathertoes |
Attack masked woman: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18 Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
The masked woman probably gets some cover, but perhaps only -2 for partial (Lubella is 3 ft tall)?
Sidius Consano |
Two things:
- Per the rules, the eagle attacks as soon as it appears, so I don't think it can benefit from the hex (Not that it matters with those rolls, I imagine).
- I'm assuming that as a spellcaster with levels, she's got a good will save - so I figure it's better to slow and weaken her than to waste a round on having her make her save v. slumber -- defaulting to AC to make it easier to harm her, but I can go after her attacks or saves if people would prefer - just let me know.
Lubella Heathertoes |
The eagle may well have taken out the duplicate image (mirror image is 5 easier to hit, for example).
AC doesn't matter much to Lubella — she might be hitting on a 2 anyway.

FYI Heading on a vacation out of town for the week. I will try to keep up with posting, but will not have usual desktop/wifi etc. So it could be slower or limited posting for this week due to remote area and cell coverage.
GM Aarvid |
Driving back home tomorrow. I will post tomorrow evening if I do not get one up tonight due to packing etc.
Aldren Halfblood |
If the tripping proves helpful, I'll try to remember it in the future. I honestly bought the whip as a thematic flavor piece for the Calistrian and just tripping with it was an option.
Aldren Halfblood |
And FYI, I just went over my posts and I am all out of channels. Just a couple spells left that I'll convert to healing once we're done. In the meantime, don't get dead. ;)
Aldren Halfblood |
Sidius, I don't suppose you have any summons left? Something that has scent, maybe?
Sidius Consano |
I don't - but i do have a pearl of power and could recall Summon I.
Aldren Halfblood |
Hey all. Got some not so great health news which knocked the wind out of my sails. Aiming to have an update up tomorrow morning.
Aldren Halfblood |
Thanks. In retrospect, that was a little dark, though I had originally started typing that as "getting my house in order" which sounded REALLY dark and overblown. Should be easily managed; just was a rude wake-up call that as a middle-aged male I can't keep living the way I did when I was 20 and expect to be here for my son in 15 years. Spent the last couple days figuring out realistic ways to change my habits and routines and taking care of all the homework I got from the doctor. Getting old sucks but it beats the alternative.
GM Aarvid |
And being there for your son is one of the best reasons to motivate change. :)
You can do it!
We will be here thinking of you, but take whatever time you need to adjust. That is way more important.
And collectively, if we need to take a break for people to deal with back to school activities or whatever, just let me know.
Sidius Consano |
Glad I got here at the end of this discussion so I didn't need to worry about Aldren. ;)
GM Aarvid |
Wow. Well, that was quite the battle. Actually a pair of them combined. I really didn't need to beef them up to account for the 6-person party, but was well fought. Strong work!
Lubella Heathertoes |
My posting will be reduced for the next few days. I'm helping my sister move 600 km.
Aldren Halfblood |
I'm also finding myself a bit spotty on my connection here. We're on vacation and the cabins are supposed to have wifi but it's been pretty spotty.
Aldren Halfblood |
GM, that was a fun dungeon crawl! Kudos and thank you!
All, seems we've got a few items on our agenda. In no particular order:
* Finish clearing AND searching the rooms in this place (there are some double-doors off the hallway to the north we haven't opened yet, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are more secret doors/rooms).
* Get the boys out of here.
* Find Rexus -- I have a third-level spell slot that I need to fill.
* Heal? Does anyone need healing (other than poor Fhingle)?
Unless someone else does something, I'm about to have Aldren walk over to Fhingle and the boys to escort them back to the surface but (a) I don't want to rush ahead too much, (b) Aldren's idea of post-trauma counseling may be a bit unorthodox, and (c) am unclear what Fhingle's status is going to be going forward. It seems like his player has disappeared?
Lubella Heathertoes |
I think we need to get the boys back to their parents before we spend much time exploring any further.
We do need to resume our search for Rexus. I'm very uncomfortable that we seem to have lost his trail.
We could do some limited searching of the cult headquarter, but we can't let it distract us from finding Rexus, IMHO.
Lubella is OK for healing.
I'll post something tomorrow. Right now I'm burnt out after spending the last few days helping my sister move.
Lubella Heathertoes |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Time to divide some of the loot.
Lubella already has a cloak of protection.
The +1 chain shirt, in addition to being too big for her, has too low a max dex bonus. Looking ahead she's will get a mithril chain shirt with the Rebellion rank 8 gift (Talvek may want to do that too).
She is interested in the ring of protection.
Aldren, Fhingle and Sidius can use the scroll.
The potions are good for anyone.
The mwk sickle and net are likely best sold for cash.
I'm not sure what to do with the Mahathallah items. Maybe melt them down for gold content?
Lubella Heathertoes |
Delivering a letter to Marquel Aulorian is also on our to-do list.
Aldren Halfblood |

Unless folks want to role play this, I’m inclined to agree with Talvek in that we can have Fhingle take them back and trust nothing more foul will befall them. But I don’t have strong feelings, particularly if it’s on our way to something else.

Same. The HQ isn’t going anywhere. Maybe check those double-doors to the north, check the cells in the entry hall, and then come back later.
On loot, I really need to get some mithral breastplate but that’s not happening. Only thing Aldy wants from this is gold. Happy to carry a scroll as a designated caster.
Congrats on being done with the move!
GM Aarvid |
Sorry - things got crazy with kids school starting this week and finalizing the selling of my wife’s aunts vacant house. Should be able to get a better post tonight or tomorrow morning.
Aldren Halfblood |
No worries. I was going to wait at least two more days before writing that Aldren walked into the Opera House and single-handedly killed Thrune.
Seriously, that’s a lot. Hope back to school goes smoothly.
Arcos Vadreis |
I'd take that cloak of resistance. I could also make good use of that ring. Given that I can regularly score sneak attacks if I'm flanking, getting my AC a bit better so I can last in melee is a priority of mine.
Sidius Consano |
Like everyone else, the ring and cloak are appealing - though (hopefully), I'm not usually in a situation where I need the AC from the ring too often.
I could feed the scroll to my familiar to gain the spell, but that seems like a waste given that we have a cleric who can just ask for the spell any morning we need it. I'd say we're better to keep it as a 'party' type of item to use as needed (or throw it on the sell pile).
Given that we need to use magic to find Rexus (I thought?) I was assuming finishing a walking tour of the HQ was doable now - with any set-up/purification/defenses/whatever being on the list of things for "later".
