I actually had a system back in the 3.0/3.5 days, derived from the method that a friend used to handle critical hits. If you rolled a 20 on your confirmation check, you not only confirmed, but you now get a chance to increase the multiplier. So, your x2 weapon could go to a x3 if you confirmed that roll. And, yes, this was open ended, so theoretically, you could get like a x100 multiplier, but the chances of that are so small, they may as well be non-existent.
I used that same idea. If you rolled a 1, it was an "error," and you had to roll an "error check," the same way you'd confirm a threat. If you hit your opponent's AC on the error check, then it's just a normal miss. If you missed, then it was a critical miss, and I'd make something up. And if you rolled a 1 on the error check, then you'd have to make a critical error check, and go from there.
Again, I stopped using it after I decided it didn't add much fun, and slowed down the game even more. And, as I said in main chat, critical misses and such affect PCs far more than NPCs, since PCs appear in 100% of the fights that happen in the game, and any given NPC appears in a tiny fraction of that.
So, this would be the time I would hand out XP for that scene. Do you guys want to use XP or not? I'm perfectly fine with letting you know when to level up if you are. Then again, while tracking XP is another bit of bookkeeping, at least you know that you're getting closer to leveling.
I'm fine with just leveling at appropriate story points. I have no objection to tracking XP, but I'm just as happy without it.
I think Lubella used up all of my good luck in this encounter! In my irl game today I rolled four critical fumbles in one fight (although I was rolling for an NPC as well as my own character). Lots of dropped weapons - thankfully no crit self! It's a relief not to have fumbles in this game.
Same. Only issue is that there is no longer incentive not to run away from or avoid certain fights. However, that does sometimes make it easier to play in character and avoid senseless violence ^_^
... ... I'm just not British enough to understand why "boll ocks" was Censored by paizo...
I keep imagining Billie Piper when thinking about what Felicia's accent sounds like. Now I just picture Billie Piper with cat ears and a sword for her o_o
It's probably easier to shoot over/around Lubella than Felicia: Lubella is only 3'0" tall. In some circumstances the target might have only partial cover (+2 AC instead of +4)
Don't be so sure that you missed your latest shot, Arcos - I left a clear line of fire (no cover for the enemy). You have Precise Shot, so you can hit up to a 15 AC, assuming you move over for the shot.
Question for when we level, will K arcana or Spellcraft be more useful to make use of detect magic? Doesn't quite make sense that arcana would identify divine spells haha.
It would be nice if, since this isn't directly relevant to my class, it counted as a background skill. However I suppose I have made it relevant to the character, so no real reason for special exception.
Spellcraft with Detect Magic allows you to determine the properties of a magic item - smells like a Cloak of Resistance +1, or perhaps you lick the item? :)
Actually in my live group I have a cat with this ability as an npc. Abjuration makes him sneeze and smells like a metallic burning odor. Generally I let the Alchemist translate what he says he smells into actual auras.
As per detect magic, it's Knowledge (arcana) to identify the school of magic from a lingering spell (like the color spray Rexus cast), and Spellcraft to identify the properties of a magic item, as Lubella notes. So, both.
And that's not how background skills work. Background skills are more or less the "less important" skills for an adventurer - such as the job skills and the Knowledge skills that don't have a monster type attached to them.
I was planning on updating yesterday, but with the messageboard's recent fragility, I lost a post to the jinkins. I'll try updating again this evening.
My first thought, Maybe translocation would smell like jet fuel.
Second thought, How would someone who has never smelled fuel describe that? Musky, spicy, sweet, uhhhhh.... Black pepper and sweet flowers. yeah, that should work
- 150 gp
- a signet ring with the Victocora family crest (Appraise check required)
- a masterwork silver dagger
- the aforementioned bracers of armor +1
It is, but I've long ago made my peace that weapon sizes make little to no sense in 3.X/PF. Since there's mechanically no difference between a Small shortsword and a Medium dagger, Lubella can use it as a shortsword at no penalty.
Daggers suit Swashbucklers pretty well as they are light piercing weapons when thrown. Felicia will ask for it, but she'll certainly relinquish it to anyone who can make better use of it.
They're also a piercing weapon when used in melee. "P or S" means you can choose which you want. Technically, this means that you could choose to do slashing damage when you throw the dagger, but I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Also, keep in mind that as an alchemically silvered weapon, the dagger actually has a base damage value of 1d4-1.
Against DR 5/silver, Felicia's average damage per hit (ignoring criticals) would improve from 0.75 (Falchata) to 1.75 (Dagger).
Lubella's average damage per hit (assuming Battle Dance) would improve from 3.5 (Scimitar), to 7.75 (Dagger)
I humbly suggest that Lubella might be the best person to use the dagger for now.
Lubella will eventually want to get a mithril scimitar, but that's a ways off. If I understand correctly, the book price for a small mithril scimitar would be 1015 GP.
That's fine I just didn't think you could use it with all if your class features. I've already got a couple daggers for range, nothing else. Even against Dr 5 I'd still use my Falcata after 3 because of other feats
My class features aren't limited by weapon type. Mind you, I find the idea of dancing enhancing crossbow attacks a bit ridiculous, so I think I'll refrain from that.
I now immediately want to make a crossbow dervish xD
Also, once I hit my stride, we'll both be dealing tons of damage with dexterity and grace. People won't just be dying, they'll be dying freaking beautifully.
Yeah. It didn't really matter in Aria Park or the streets, since that's all stuff where discovery doesn't matter all that much, but I wasn't happy with the Fog of War solution to revealing maps. Line of Sight/Dynamic Lighting will help immensely.
