Lucija is silent...but there is a certain BURNING look in her eyes as Thedan describes the power of the orb...and the possibility that it can be taken....

Any reason it would still be worth it to share personal stories with Thedan? Though this player is in a prolonged weakened state, this PC would be MORE than willing to boast about herself.

So long as someone shares a story for the trade, that's all that's needed to progress. Feel free to do a retcon bragging story later when your feeling more up to it. :)

Proudefeets laughs goodnaturedly. "Chaldira is a mighty goddess of battle, but she teaches us to turn more in the direction of luck and mischief, instead of an emotion as coarse as vengeance. I will not fear to wield the Orb to close the portal if that is what is needed to send these Pale Ones back to whence they came."

Thedan listens and pulls down his books again.

Many things can be found in history. Let's see what I can find in your giant's history.

He begins thumbing through the book.

Giants of note... giants of note... Ah! Here we are, a record from the traveler Testudo of the Jade Turtle. Zoarth. Giant wizard. Quiet good at his job. Known obsession with cats. Hm.... "Forsooth, for the Bird Maven and the Cat Wizard of the Mount did live together for many years. Their work was splendid, but beware oh reader, for tragedy strikes all regardless of might. For I awoke to find the Cat Wizard filled with grief that the Bird Maven was struck down by sickness, and her birds where eaten by a horde of cats." Well that's.... certainly unpleasant.

He makes a face as he frowns.

I mean... cats gotta eat, but yeesh, letting your cats eat your dead friend's pets seems rather cold to me. Not that a escaped bird would be able to wield the orb.

He chuckles at the thought.

Polly want vengeance perhaps? I'm sorry. It seems to be a dead end according to this tome.

The cloud moves at the speed of plot, and reaches the city as the pathfinder team does. As they pull up the front gates, they feel a few drips and drops of rain.

Ulfgran is at the gate, guarding it and waves at you with a smile as he steps under a canopy at the entrance to protect himself from the rain.

Howdy! Good to see you back! I hope Thedan was helpful!

Before further pleasantries however, a small whistling sound is heard, and a "SLAP" above Ulfgran up the wall. He turns and looks the spot of the sound with curiosity. It's a reddish gelatinous goo in a clump the size of a fist. Before you get much chance to comment on it, another splats down. One hits a traveler nearby... and seems not to affect him much, other than the look of disgust.

What in all the levels of hell... mutters Ulfgran in confusion as more and more fist sized globs of red goo begin to slam down, impossible to avoid in number, but even as the heroes might be struck, it feels like nothing worse than being splattered with red gelatin that someone has thrown at you.

EVERYBODY UNDER COVER! Ulfgran yells as another batch of goo hits his shoulder, splattering all over. He reaches back to the door to his gate house and opens it up, trying to usher the team, and anyone else who can fit, inside.

Pathfinders, it's not initiative, but time doing things does matter. Feel free to tell me what your doing and such as everyone is drenched in what can only be described as red jello. Avoiding it completely is impossible while outside... think of it like being in a hail storm. It doesn't hurt you, but "Heavy Rain" conditions apply.

Vermin and Lucija study the goop as it splatters down on them. "Not Natural" may be the understatement of the year. Lucija is able to determine... sort of, that the stuff has a slight acidity to it, but not enough to hurt anyone.

As people begin to pack the street edges, trying to huddle under any shelter they can, the gel that seems to be covering everything...

quivers.

Great bundles of it start to run together, turning into bigger piles of goop as the rain begins to poor down the great blobs of red.

Ulfgran looks at the slowly forming bundles and mutters out...

What in all the...

before he can speak, one of the bigger bundles of goop launches itself onto a woman. Her screams are cut off as the thing wraps itself around her head, more blobs jumping in and joining until a large blob is formed. More and more form simultaneously.

Seeing the blobs form together, Lucija has a smash of disturbing insight.

These blobs... remind her of the same gelatinous ooze that gelatinous cubes are made of. Just... not cubed.

Ulfgran shouts out as he snags his pole arm and rushes one of the piles of ooze as it captures another citizen!

No map, this is theatre of the mind, but keep in mind your currently fighting on 20 foot wide streets, with the edges being crammed with people trying to escape the rain. These things are a variant gelatinous cube.... with all the trouble that implies. Good luck pathfinders, you have a city to save.

Plunder and Peril Ship 1 Plunder and Peril Ship 2

Sorry, this part is a little... ill defined.

Okay, so the only relevant knowledge would be dungeoneering to identify it as something equivalent to gelatinous cube. We're technically in initiative, but the initiative is "Pathfinders" then "Things". This is more of a set piece situation than a actual combat, because the creatures are going to be amusingly easy for you to kill, but you have an entire city that is now filled with these things.

Sorry, let me give some more flavor.

Bauble holds out his hands, flames issuing forth as he cackles at the pint size blobs, which sizzle and pop under the torrent of flames.

Lucija sees that fire seems to work, and drops in a horde of fire elementals, who begin body slamming blobs this way and that.

Everyone notices that the rain is letting up some, but the blobs are still far to numerous and the panic caused by their attacks is putting people in almost as much danger as the blobs themselves.

Anyone with a decent intimidate or diplomacy want to try some crowd control actions? Bauble can aid, but he sucks at both skills. But he will try!

Bauble sees a nice big cathedral being protected well and tries to scare the plebs into entering the safe zone. He screams at the annoying citizens, "Bauble see stupid people! Stupid people should stay away from icky blobs. Go there!"

Intimidate: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

But just ends up looking stupid himself.

Plunder and Peril Ship 1 Plunder and Peril Ship 2

Vermin, Clandelve, and Mr. P slash, hack, and smash blobs, Vermin and Lucija's summoned creatures burning and smashing blobs left and right. Even bauble gets in on the action, though he causes more confusion than he seems to help.

As the rain continues to lighten however, the pathfinders realize something with dawning dread.... the whole city is undoubtedly filled with blobs. The screams of dying civilians and war cries of the town guard attest to it. Ulfgran himself is soon sweating with efforts as he hacks and directs people to safety... or what would be safety, but the blobs are even crawling under windows and door frames, leaving no where safe... it is going to be a very long day.

Choice time pathfinders! Feel free to discuss it in the discussion thread if needbe, but post your final vote here.

You can stick around and save as many civilians as possible. You will end up fighting for hours straight against the blobs, taking very little damage but running yourselves ragged doing so. Checks and saves will need to be made to stay standing.

You can also try and attack the source... you will need a way to fly up into the cloud, but the time you spend flying up there and whatever happens from that point forward will mean that the civilians won't have you to help them, and many will be killed, horribly as the blobs dissolve them. A fly potion won't be enough to cover the distance, as you need to go into the actual storm cloud many thousands of feet up.

Vermin can fly for hours in Air elemental form. He can air walk one other creature (Maybe a mount?). If someone has a Pearl of Power level IV he could cast that again. He would prefer to attack the source, but if we cannot get everyone up there then he is happy to stay below and help people.Vermin is of Neutral alignment and is not specifically driven to save people for moral reasons any more than he would want to save all life. He finds the blobs unnatural and would like to end their source.

Lucija could care less about the lives of commoners, is already mounted on Naghamadi, who could care less about gravity, is VERY interested in this strange and unnatural cloud and its progeny, and is a raging egomaniac who seldom fears for her safety. I'll let you guess what her choice is.

As a Paladin, Mr. P of course cares about saving the people of the city. However, he's quite dumb, so he can easily be persuaded that in order to save the city, the party needs to attack the source of the blobs. Doubtless, he will grieve the many lives lost as a result, but also celebrate the many lives saved as a result. In short, while his vote would be to stay and save the citizens, if the party chooses otherwise it won't be hard to persuade him that this is also the Paladin-ly thing to do.

Mounted on Griff, he can fly indefinitely. It's not clear whether Griff could also carry another party member - he has ample STR to do so, but Pathfinder doesn't really have rules for a mount carrying more than one rider. GM, any opinions, if that's the only way we can get the whole party up there?

Plunder and Peril Ship 1 Plunder and Peril Ship 2

As a GM, so long as Griff can carry the pathfinder and their equipment, I'm willing to let it go, but I will be stingy about making sure that Griff can do it, and will give associate penalties if over light weight. They won't be mounted, just carried.

Using Herolab to calculate his encumbrance: Griff (STR 22) can carry up to 346 lbs and still be at light load. He's currently carrying 149 lbs (of which 54 come from carrying Mr. P, his halfling rider). So: Griff can carry another 197 lbs without getting encumbered. He won't be offering Farkas a lift, but he can probably carry someone in the party, though probably not a heavily armored martial...

Clandelve's only flying source is a potion of fly. So I'm happy to go to the source, but would need help getting all the way there.

So, we have two characters and a large pet that cannot fly. Vermin can cast Air Walk on one creature. Perhaps Bauble can cast Fly more than once? I note that he has 5 third level spells/day but only 4 memorized. Perhaps Griff can carry another rider but I bet both fighters are too heavy to ride. Perhaps Sparky could carry a rider, but does not have the training to do so. Hmm. What about the huge wolf? Could he carry both fighters? Just thinking out loud here.

Looks like we have 3 PCs (Jothas, Clandelve, and Bauble) with no way to fly all the way up to the storm? Even if Griff carries one (likely Bauble is the only option due to encumbrance) and Vermin casts Air Walk on another, that still leaves us one short. Clandelve has a potion of fly but I think we've already determined that will be insufficient to get all the way there. Any other options? If not, maybe we should simply pursue the other option (scouring the city of blobs to save the populace)?

Mr. P and Griff continue to kill blobs while the group figures out its approach.

Is it possible to air walk the huge wolf and they non flyers ride it? If not then we are on blob clearance.

Plunder and Peril Ship 1 Plunder and Peril Ship 2

I will rule that you can have Farkas air walk to carry the non-flyers up. However, due to Farkas being a unwilling participant in these shenanigans, I will need some Handle animal checks, and if you run into anything in the air, you will be stuck on Farkas, being carried and at a disadvantage. But I will, in theory, allow it.

Does anyone have feather fall or some other means of aiding a falling PC if this all goes wrong?

Mr. P's Handle Animal is +16 but I don't know if he can make the checks given that he'll be riding Griff. At the very least he should be able to auto-aid.

I believe Bauble has Fly memorized. This would last considerably longer than a potion - 10 minutes versus 3 minutes. Perhaps this is long enough?
