As the pathfinders watch, a Huge Sized dire bear leaps out of the forest and begins attacking the giants! It tears and rends with teeth and claw, and the giants seem to be having a tough go of it!

Think you guys will interfere or let nature run it's course? More bloodthirst pathfinders end up getting attacked from behind by the bear while the giants attack from the front.

As the team tries to decide what to do, the bear and the giants continue their pitched battle. Two stay back and lob stones, which glance harmlessly off the giant bear, while 4 engage in close combat, swinging clubs at the bear to painful effect. However, the bear has one of the giants in his teeth and is painfully ripping him apart, though he is not dead yet... more than likely, the bear will be killed but will take out a giant or two before he falls.

No map, since your backing up the bear, these giants are going to be chump change, we'll just theatre of the mind this real quick. The tricky part is going to be not killing the bear/not letting the bear die. I'll say you guys hid behind a mount 50 feet away. Vermin, your gonna wanna work in a wild empathy check at some point. Have fun.

The 4 giants surrounding the bear are to busy hammering the bear to notice the incoming elemental and dino about to rip them to shreds. Mr. Proudefeets takes to the air, and calls upon his god to tell him the hearts of the giants. The creatures glow with a faint evil.

Vermin drops a wall or thorns to cut off the bear from the giant rock throwers as Sparky pounces in.

Wall of thorns is nine 10X10X10 cubes of dense thorn vegetation. So lets make it 20' high in a 40' semi circle around the bear to shield it, and us, from any giants not in melee and at the same time capturing a couple of the melee giants in the thorns. Their AC is such that it might not hurt a lot - likely 4 points a round to fight in the wall.

I think you could consider that a deliberate fall, since he was dismounting intentionally. It says, "When you deliberately fall any distance, even as a result of a missed jump, a DC 15 Acrobatics skill check allows you to ignore the first 10 feet fallen, although you still end up prone if you take damage from a fall." Substitute dismount for jump and it fits the bill. If so I believe Bauble can use acrobatics to reduce the damage and land on his feet. Just in case...

Hmm.... I'll let it slide this time bauble, and say you tumbled and rolled. Normally the failed ride check would be all you'd get. Lucija, the trick with grapple and constricts is that constricts activate when the grapple activates, so to make them stack you have to release the first grapple as a free action then attempt to activate it again. Upside does more damage, downside if the last grapple misses you don't end the turn grappled.

Scorpians, flying griffins with paladins on them, and worse, a dwarf with a grudge are all these things are NOT things the giants where planning on handling today. Their lack shows as they die one after the other, the two rock throwers seeing the massacre and turning to RUN AWAY!

The bear however, snaps in anger at the others, but it's wounded and has no intention of continuing the fight. It swipes and bats at the others, attempting to slowly withdraw from the team.

They are soon eaten by FLAME scorpions, an angry raptor who begins a tug of war with Farkas, and one of them is even shot in the shoulder just for the indignity of it as it's torn to shreds.

Bloody hell, you actually beat the check! What is this, a zoo?!

The bear whimpers a bit as Vermin approaches, but a few healing touches and soothing words from the druid soon put the great beast at ease, and it doesn't run off right away as you might expect. It still seems wary, but definitely more at ease with him.

Vermin will take his own form as he administers to great ursine. I think you for your help my friends. This is a majestic bear we have saved. He will now live to father many cubs and his genes will strengthen the species. Few natural animals are a threat to the giants and the world would be a darker place without them.

Farkas finishes nomming and the bear ambles off, more than happy to get away from the nonsense that's going on.

The group marches for another day before they reach the Hill Giant's Camp.

Ahead is an ugly, simple camp of crude, hide tents gathered around the side of a rocky, barren hill. A few illkept fires burn lazily in pits, roasting large haunches of meat or boiling pots of stew whose contents are better left unknown. By human standards, the tents are large, but the giants that live here likely find them barely big enough to
sleep in. Piles of crudely painted stones lie near a pile ofvarious weapons; most of the weapons are immense clubs, but there are also a few massive axes, swords, and spears. A few giants wander slowly about the camp, not terribly vigilant or energetic. The entire area stinks of dung, rancid meat, wet leather, old iron, and offal.

A trio of giants stands at the edge of camp. Although such things
are not always easy to tell with the brutish creatures, one appears
to be a young male and another a young female. They talk excitedly with each other and with the third giant, who stands two feet taller than the others and has two heads—one head appears to be male while the other might actually be female.

Knowlege Local 16:
The two headed giant is a Ettin, though it is odd to see one with different sexes for it's heads. You also notice that the other giants are particularly young, perhaps only late teens by giant standards.

Mr. P- Not particularly, other than they where a hunting party, not a war band. Important difference, and they where all killed outright. The only one that had a survival chance was the one sparky attacked, and the bear ate that one. Their gear is mostly trash or ceremonial, and the new giants have the same markings as the others, though the two headed giant is a bit of a oddball thing.

Lucija, who had been silently judging her party with an imperious gaze up until now, appears pleased with what she now hears! She projects the power of her own ego into a magical shield, then speaks words of power so terrible as to breach the walls between the planes themselves, and calling forth a terrifying demon, who bows deeply before her.

"Dispose of them all - with my blessing!" She says in address to the rest of the party just as much as the demon, as she wills the 4th dimension open its gates to them all!

The demon grins widely and nods deeply, all without a word, before creeping (at an unnervingly rapid pace) toward its quarry....
