Additional task: cleanse the Fort's hill of the stain of undeath. Properly burying the bodies of the hill-dead, figuring out how to put the child-spirits to rest, and lots of prayers and holy water.

RPGGGM |

I've seen this done lots of times in movies.. Zokon rolls barrels of explosives out of the door of the keep with a lit fuse or he shoots em with arrows and they blow up all the bandits.. hopefully not us too... BOOM!
I would like to point out that logically most people camp on higher ground for the view and to avoid rain run-off, but logic's never stopped some directors.

Speaking of leveling up Posh, you are supposed to be 4th level just now.

The wanted poster asks for evidence, the ghost wants the man. You could probably drop the body off at the river and just hand the Stag Lord's more notable accoutrements (I recommend the helm, and not the kilt) to the Brevic authorities (probably the Magister of Restov). The Stag Lord's helm (which he wore constantly) would be more recognizable than his mangled face.

Scarlet Scarab |

Oh! I need to find out what happened to the Company after they left with lord what's his face.

RPGGGM |

There is a lot of mostly unstructured downtime in the group's immediate future, some of which can be tackled by individuals or smaller groups. So if Scarlet wants to head down to Mivon alone or with a small party (of PCs or NPCs) she can.
For now, it would be good to decide how you want to tackle the Stag Lord's "Army". I have no problem with the Michael Bay barrels-roll-uphill-just-so-long-as-they-explode-cinematically option if that's what people want to do. This is not really a fight. It's more of a mopping up. If folks have any other thoughts now is the time to voice them.
If asked, Akiros, or any of the other surviving former bandits (like Byron Benzen) might have some input.

Scarlet Scarab |

How to handle the Stag Lord's remnants:
Scarlet would ask them to turn legit and guard the fort. Tell them Restov will forgive their crimes in exchange for becoming guardsmen. A steady wage and steady source of food should be enough for most to turn legit.
If they don't want to surrender, Scarlet will gladly display a show of force and Intimidate them into submission.

Durgan Far-Walker |

Durgan is good with that.
While Abadar hates banditry, he also frowns on needless wastes of resources. And Durgan understands that these people turned to banditry out of desperation.
And if a show of force is needed, Durgan will be by Scarlet's side.

Illthir Winlowe |

So step one is say hi to the rest of the bandits? Let's see how that works out then : )

DM Aron Marczylo |

Just saw that there's apparently a Pathfinder second edition.

Illthir Winlowe |

Yeah they've been playtesting it a bunch. Is it out now?

RPGGGM |

It comes out during Gen Con. I'm not sure I like it. The play-test period did not leave me feeling hopeful for myself at least. I think Chadius likes it though, so maybe there's hope. ;)

Illthir Winlowe |

Haven't looked too closely at it tbh but I feel pretty meh myself. Part of the 3.5/pathfinder charm is that everything is built from modular blocks and that seems to be missing. So now it has to beat out all the other rpgs out there instead of having it's own niche.

Scarlet Scarab |

Oh yeah, I liked the playtest, except for resonance. I'll definitely play some 2nd ed games when the pdf comes out. There are many PCs I just can't make in 1st ed without gimping myself to an unhealthy degree. And simplifying the action economy was very useful.
But hey, I think we're pretty comfortable with the rules we know. And it ain't broke, so we're not gonna change it.
It won't matter here, though. Even though they announced a 2nd ed conversion of Kingmaker I doubt it will be ready in a reasonable amount of time.

Zokon Santyev |

The initial version was awful, basically unplayable in it's complexity, I assume it's changed a bit since the initial play test, but It probably hasn't changed enough to save it. I'd have to get my hands on the latest rules to be able to make a fair judgement.

Victoria Velasco |

I did like the magic system of P2E. It was nice to have cantrips that are not only useful, but crucially so, throughout your levels. I like the addition of the 'occult' magic for bards (and presumably others to come). I liked that bards are full spellcasters. It was nice to reduce the number of knowledge skills. There are some good changes. I agree tht resonance sucked, but they acknowledged that and made significant changes. I felt like the playtest was very interactive with them taking in a lot of feedback and adjusting rules as they went. We'll see what the final version has.

RPGGGM |

Before we go too much further, does anyone want to be the group treasurer. Sans Numalar (who I suspect liked this sort of thing) we are in need of one, I can do it if I must (at the very least I can update the current tally for the next person.
Any takers?
Also, did folks distribute the wealth from the last time? Remember if as a group you don't want to bother with an item you can decide to make part of the "bank".
In case I hadn't mentioned it before, Victoria's items can be found in Stag Lord's chambers, along with the bulk of the bandits' treasure, and if you have been saving up your character's bank for something special it could be placed here too.

RPGGGM |

Other Notes:
The Stag Lord's bow is truly broken.
The Zombie horde rises up from the hill to attack anyone who does not follow the well-marked pathway that leads up to the fort. This info can be gotten from any surviving bandit (or if you wait long enough maybe some of the dead ones). Their point of origin can be revealed with a little in-world elbow grease.
The gunpowder stored in the cellar is mostly-damp (all the moisture and the slime on the walls). The only viable stuff was in the upstairs room that no longer exists. This can be discovered through the use of alchemy (or by hiring an alchemist).
And the rest of the ground floor of the fort stands revealed at last.

Durgan Far-Walker |

Durgan will hang on to the remains of the Stag Lord's bow to eventually cast Make Whole on it once his caster level is high enough to restore the magical properties. Or Greater Make Whole. Then he could sell it.
The Great Stag Helm is best used by Zokon, I would think. If he likes the aesthetics.
Durgan has the best AC so doesn't need the protective items. They would be great for Scarlet, Illthir, or Alia, all of whom are normally AC 17-18 without buffs.
The armor I guess Posh could use, or we could sell it.
Durgan does not have the best skills for finding the source of the necromantic effect animating the hill-dead, but if he can get some help tracking the magic to its source he can probably put an end to it.
Taking over as treasure-tracker would not be my first choice, but I could do it. It is in character after all.

Shepherd Jhod Kavken |

The Great Stag Helm is best used by Zokon, I would think. If he likes the aesthetics.
The big fangs and such are add-ons the actual helm looks more like a lightly adorned elk's skull.
And you don't have to "sell" the stuff in-game you can just leave it, and it magically disappears form the campaign and the gold gets divided between everyone's bank and then when you have saved up enough for something you want let me know and it will magically appear in the next appropriate treasure horde. Now the bow, because it was actually broken in-game, would need to be fixed before you could get anything from it. That said it was (thus far) the best bow in the campaign.
Also, there is another cleric in the game for Durgan to confer with back at the outpost.
Thanks for offer as Lootkeeper. I'll keep it open for now. Give other folks some time to check in. There will soon be another clerical opening that will need to be filled soon: Kingdom Bookkeeper!

2 people marked this as a favorite. |

I walk among you, once more.
Been spending 2 weeks in a hospital, then recuperating. Been home for a bit, back at the computer for a few days.
Back here, now, going through discussions at least to let people know they are not getting rid of me so easily.
Catching up in-game will take a bit more, I'll try to do so over the next couple days - but I'm back now.
As for plans: Search the whole of the Stag Fort for the map stolen from my associate when my original entourage was killed/taken prisoner. The map leading to the hidden elven stronghold containing an unknown macguffin(totally not the Crown of Bethmora) my brother needs for totally not nefarious purposes.

Zokon Santyev |

Zokons bow is pretty good so he'd probably look to getting that enchanted.
The stag Lord helm if it's able to be cut down would be cool.
I'm a bit sick atm, nasty flu/chest infection so i'm a bit slow.

RPGGGM |

Second that, and hope you get better soon, Z.

Illthir Winlowe |

A bit frazzled today. Nothing major but the thinky parts of the brain went to sleep early. I'll strive to make a post tomorrow instead. Hopefully there's nothing critical for Illthir to deal with - but if there is - sorry!

Serena will offer to take the pre-dawn watch. That will give her ample time to rest and replenish spells, and some "alone" time to pray.
**Wink!**

RPGGGM |

Just realised I haven't leveled up Posh. I've cleared my hard disks a few times, but should rebuild him sometime.
I had mentioned it a few times, but so long as as everyone in the party is within a level, or so of each other it's fine with me if you are aiming for HARD mode. If it ever gets to the point where I need to add three levels of druid and a level of mystic theurge to a PC then we would really need to talk.

RPGGGM |

DA LOOT!
So this is the remaining loot in the Stag lord's Fort.
Amid the three chests in the Stag Lord's room are the following items:
Two of the chests hold bedding and other miscellaneous items, including a bolt of burlap cloth, old clothing, an iron ring, and three crudely stitched leather masks.
In the third chest, the Stag Lord keeps his best treasures. This consists of 282 gp, a polished azurite crystal worth 18 gp, a carnelian worth 160 gp, a piece of hematite worth 26 gp, a shard of obsidian worth 28 gp, a red garnet worth 200 gp, a pewter belt buckle depicting a pair of entwined succubi worth 60 gp, and a silver charm bracelet worth 120 gp.
large amount of stolen wealth can be found in cellar. The bandits have been stockpiling their ill-gotten goods for months. The majority of the wealth kept here consists of mundane trade goods like pelts, furs, tobacco, iron, bronze, miscellaneous weapons and armor (none masterwork or magic), and miscellaneous adventuring gear and tools worth a combined total of 11,987 gp!
In addition, one chest in area contains 7,875 cp, 3,596 sp, 1,564 gp, and 36 pp, while a large bag contains 5,075 gp in various pieces of stolen jewelry.
I am giving out the prices this time because there is no immediate need (or even place) to divest yourselves of these items. Unlike items 'taken in battle' these are items from a treasure hoard, and cannot be 'banked'. If you want to liquidate them you have to sell or trade them via the usual methods. And again, if there are any special items you have been saving your PC's individual bank funds up for they can be found here.
So you folks must really trust this Akiros guy. ;)

RPGGGM |

Though I'm not sure what the exchange rate for burlap sacks is. And does anyone have change for a shovel? I'm a few trowels short.

Durgan Far-Walker |

Can you put up a Google Sheet with the existing loot?
I don't know if Numalar's old sheet was kind of subsumed into the disbursement of 2,000 gp each here, at Vsevolod Manor.
The new loot is Staggie and bandits' gear plus the general loot you posted above.
I can take over with future tracking after that.
It looks like it will be on the order of 2,000 gp each again. Haven't done all the math on selling items from the bandit loot.

Alia of the Blade |

1500 you mean after a more accurate assessment by our steward. *Akiros nervously shouting orders in background as we return to the Keep*
Well, 1000 after the sign-on-bonus and initial payments, including specialists needed to work on the fort.
And 500 after deduction of necessary equipment and materials for the repair of the keep.
Ups, almost forgot the Brevoy tax on treasures and liberated goods on the base value....with looks like a final payout of
"One shiny Golden Coin"
for each of us. :D
More seriously:
@Trade goods: Would they fluctuate in value? E.g. would waiting for autumn to sell furs fetch a higher price than doing so in spring?(payoff inmediate availability of funds versus bigger return later)
Would it make sense to keep the arms and armor for our own troops? Just putting a heraldic sign on them seems the more cost-efficient option over selling them and then getting new stuff custom-made?

RPGGGM |

D&D 3.X (which includes the Pathfinder RPG) probably has the worst economic system in all of RPG history. Do you know how much a gold coin of a certain weight is worth now as opposed to 10,000 years ago? One gold coin. Or even better--how much technology has improved in all that time in Golarion? Zilch. Oh yeah? What about gunpowder huh? Well, 10,000 years ago there was a crashed spaceship full of laser rifles and giant CR 16 robots. Real world political history is only slightly better considering that much of the world looks like it did back in the 1930's.
Well, that ended darker than I was hoping for.

Illthir Winlowe |

@Trusting NPCs - Yeah. It's a bit silly, but leaving someone trustworthy in charge would probably be splitting the party at this point. Which can be fun at times. Or just *hmm* exciting :P

RPGGGM |

Roger that.

Illthir Winlowe |

I usually don't anger caterpillars so I'll have to check some educational videos to see if they bob and weave in the way I imagine :P
Also! Hopefully it's okay that I go ahead and make a spellcraft roll on that bardiche - just in case : )
Spellcraft!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Edit: Aha! It's clearly an oversized wand of summon bigger fish. Excellent ...

Durgan Far-Walker wrote:Durgan also listens to his intuition, coming to the same conclusion as Scarlet.

Since folks are already actually taking actions those who haven't can take a rounds worth of action.
** spoiler omitted **
Last time I did not take actions and missed out on pre-buffing while others got loaded up. I decided not to take chances this time around.
