Sorry everyone! My area got hit by a hurricane and I've been without power since thursday! it was supposed to go 60+miles west of our area but we got hit dead on. Caught folks by surprise. I also cant login to my account from my phones web browser for some reason. I finally managed to get access to a computer for a day though. And I wanted to let you all know. I hope to have power again by Friday, though it could be as long as next Thursday. If I have time today i'll try to post, but its doubtful.

Illthir Winlowe |

Sorry to hear that. Best of luck and I hope the damage is manageable :/
If it was a really long time since you used the phone browser, it might be a cookie issue. Some screwup from a year or two ago? If you can clear those it might work. Or there might be a new and shiny issue :p

Serena Mistcastle |

Been there. I was in the aftermath of Katrina for 14 days without power, so I feel you. My heart goes out to those affected and I wish you better fortune.

No worries. Hurricanes take precedence over pretty much everything. I hope everyone's alright down there.

RPGGGM |

Everyone alive and have power?

Illthir Winlowe |

Am alive, have power. It's very nice to live somewhere without major weather issues though it is looking like there'll be a handful of leaves on the train tracks soon :p

RPGGGM |

Roger that.
We already have leaves on the ground here.

RPGGGM |

Is everyone just waiting for the US election to be over? ;)

Serena Mistcastle |

Actually, yes. The stress of the election is causing my depression to flare up. I'm sorry. I will try to be more responsive.

Illthir Winlowe |

It's like watching a train laden with explosives heading for a rickety bridge above several orphanages.
I wish you the best of luck, but I am worried.
And weirded out by the "let's explode the orphans!" segment of society.

I myself have already voted from the state that looks like it is waving at you (if you happened to be in space) about a month ago.
Fun fact: I haven't been able to bring myself to vote for a Republican since they allowed Newt into the club back in the 90's when he had that C-SPAN After Dark show on after midnight in the empty House Chamber. Where he pretended to argue against people who weren't actually there--like Clint Eastwood and the chair.
Anyhow, I'm glad of my decision back then.
Now I just wear my 'VOTE' shirt around the factory every day and guilt people into voting until election day. The shirt is like my version of a playoff beard. ;)
Personally, I am not too worried about Trump winning the election, it's all of his Mini-Mes that concern me. When you top out at about 45% of an electorate and then go out of your way to alienate more than 50% of the same total electorate you've pretty much doomed yourself (even with an Electoral College). Generic Republican politicians however ran ahead of him in 2020 and the only way to teach the party that they need to do things for our votes is to enforce some electoral consequences when they don't. They are not our rulers, they are our employees.
And in closing: I feel that the GOP should be forced to take their Presidential candidate's campaign to term regardless of the danger to the life of the party.
;)

PS In case I am deported (I am, genetically speaking: German, Polish, Scottish, Native American) there's a chance I might end up living near you so we should get together and have an in-person game.

RPGGGM |

Well, f%@@.

Illthir Winlowe |

My understanding of things is that they could have gone better, yes. Sorry about the whole mess for what it's worth :/

RPGGGM |

Not your fault.
Although Europe is now going to have face Russia on it's own for a while. Give what you can to Gondor.

Illthir Winlowe |

Not our fault, but it's still sad to see :)
I saw a stat, on reddit mind so accuracy not guaranteed, that it costs europe about two coffe cups per capita and month to help. We are near the top though at about five cups. But I dare say I could go as far as ten before complaining, so there's resources to give.
Just hope this kick in the arse will get the gears turning a bit faster. But we'll see - let's not give us too much credit either. We know how that sort of thinking has worked out lately :p

Serena Mistcastle |

Once again, my wife and I are on our way to Walt Disney World, Dec 1-6. If necessary, please bot me during that time. Thank you!

Illthir Winlowe |

Have fun at Disney World :)
Though we've been slow even for us, so not sure if you'll need botting.

RPGGGM |

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving to folks who celebrate the day.
And even to those who don't, because that's how Americans roll. ;)

Serena Mistcastle |

Sorry for the delay. I got back on the 6th and walked right into a hornet's nest of busy times getting ready for the holiday.

Illthir Winlowe |

Thanks, happygiving :p
And welcome back Serena :)

Illthir Winlowe |

Oh darn. Mephits! One of the coolest critter of the Improved Familiar family. (And dust mephits are like the perfect familiar for a cobwebbed wizard and their vast library :D)
Would Illthir's knowledge roll be good enough to know that mephits are 1) usually not evil and 2) often do speak common?
(Assuming these are still true here of course :))

See the gameplay thread.
I am personally a fan of mephits as they appeared in the Planescape setting with the idea that they are used as a secret language all on their own when presented to someone else like gifting someone flowers.
'In the complex social code of some lower-planar spellcasters, the gift of a dust mephit symbolizes a subtle threat, with the connotation that the giver has recognized some plot of the recipient against them.'
I could not believe when all four of the little blighters succeeded at their 25% chance to summon another one. ;)
Also 'elemental scamps'? I hope the change Paizo made is more one of a rights and/or branding thing than 'mephit' being a bad word in a context I am not familiar with. Alas they don't seem to have a more detailed explanation. So I am guessing the former. I don't think Hasbro/Wizards has changed their name.

Illthir Winlowe |

I did look into Mephits a while back. My findings were that there no monster called a Mephit anywhere except dnd or dnd derived stuff. The word is approximately "noxious vapours" and connected to some goddess somewhere (that, unless I missed something; were not a tiny elemental spirit .p).
So that a "mephit" is an elemental annoyance spirit is probably a dnd original creation (or some other game dnd stole/borrowed from; but couldn't find it if so).
So if one wants their IP to be distinct from wizards dnd changing the name makes sense. But "Mephit" > "Elemental Scamp" any day of the week :)
And merry christmass, happy holidays or just a generic nice time to you all!
---
Oh and hmm so these mephits may be angry flowers from our boney friend? Or perhaps intended for someone else and stumbled upon by us, but that seems too much of a coincidence.
...Still, Mephits are cool; if this can be solved non-violently that may be good. But perhaps a bit of violence is needed to make sure we aren't murdered first :p

RPGGGM |

Happy holidays (whichever ones you specifically celebrate)!! All rights unreserved.

RPGGGM |

Happy New Year everybody!

Illthir Winlowe |

Happy (delayed) new year to you too:)
I hope 2025 is treating you all right so far.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I'm going camping off the grid this weekend and will not have Internet access, so please bot me as necessary.

Illthir Winlowe |

It looks like Serena and Jhod is still bolded, but I'm guessing Illthir is up :)?

RPGGGM |

My bad!
Fixed!

Illthir Winlowe |

Re mending + hair - that's an interesting question...

RPGGGM |

Re mending + hair - that's an interesting question...
It is technically hp damage, and Serena was only damaged not 'destroyed,' but aligning all the individual hairs to their original stems.... ;p
Fortunately Serena keeps her hair numbered for just such a situation.
At present her hair probably looks like a really lopsided pageboy cut. The sort of thing that would have looked really cool in the 90's.
"Whoa! Your mom let you do that!?"

RPGGGM |

If you like your eggs scrambled hand them over to a rabbit to deliver. ;)

Illthir Winlowe |

Down under the weather but I'll try and pull myself together asap. (And no, not quite sure if I had the brainpower to pick the correct weapon but looks like it didn't matter much :D)

RPGGGM |

Yeah, I'm "under the weather" too, although the high-temperature I working my way through is purely external. Whew!
Get well soon! (And everyone keep cool if you need to. ;))

Illthir Winlowe |

Well, I'm better but now get got that actual weather too :p
(Not terribly hot compared to the continent but hot for this place!)

Illthir Winlowe |

Let's see. Looking back into the past:
Stirred from his meditation over the pipe-smoke map, Eldiocesan says "Oh, here and there. Wandering wizard you know." he smile brightly. "Since you and your friends helped smoked out Szam Tass's agent in the Stolen Land I have had quite bit to keep me busy. Perhaps I'll take a break from the hunt and look into this troll business." Then he grows serious and takes Alia's hand in his. "This is serious now" he says looking into her eyes with a piercing stare. "You have made a grim, implacable enemy in Tass. He is ageless, and never forgets a slight. Be on your guard. Now if you will both excuse me? I should be away by morning and the campaigner in me tells me it is time for rest." With a wink Eldiocesan, kisses the back of Alia's hand and leaves for the night.
Tamis is friends/companions with the dappled wolf plot that I think was just before I joined.
Illthir has met the wizard at least, unsure about Tamis. (Not on screen at least, from what I could find/recall!)

Illthir Winlowe |

Eldioceasan may either be looking into the trolls (unlikely, why would they be here?) or Szam Tass. If we are lucky!
If we are not; well doppelgangers and illusions exist :p

Illthir Winlowe |

apologies all, I've had a recent issue where I lost access to the boards. I should be back now though.
Welcome back!
The paizo boards are a little flimsy at times, though I haven't had any issues on that end for a while. Let's hope it lasts :D

Illthir Winlowe |

Oh hmm right, wasn't there drows somewhere? Was it this place?
I need to refresh my memory but perhaps there might be multiple reasons to station some armed people here ...

RPGGGM |

There was a passage (with a Temple of Doom-style mine cart chase) beneath the Sootscale Kobolds' silver mine lair about 12 miles south of your present position (see the Regional Map).
The party chased Tartuk, the tribe's sorcerer down into the Darklands beneath the Narlmarches where he disappeared through the gates of what looked to be a huge underground settlement, though whether or not he found any sort of help within is unknown as he didn't look happy as the heavily armored troglodyte guards dragged him inside.
According to a journal that party member Numalar had discovered, Tartuk was originally a gnome who was killed when his village was attacked by a giant. The villagers (not really knowing what a monster he was yet) had him reincarnated. He returned as a kobold (a species Tartuk deeply hates).
As revenge for this humiliation, he roused a tribe of kobolds into attacking the gnomes. The resulting battle ended with both sides nearly wiped out and both of their settlements abandoned. Since then he has been traveling the Stolen Land, ingratiating himself into various groups of kobolds, raising to a position of power using his magic, and then rousing the kobolds into suicidal wars against their neighbors.
He had set the Sootscale kobolds against the Mites of the Ol' Sycamore Tree (see Illthir's earliest posts), and probably would have (if he hadn't already) set them against the people of Samuel Renault's farming settlement to the north.

Illthir Winlowe |

Mm right. So we have a second entrance down to the Darklands here (potentially). Might explain why this place repopulates so quickly with monsters

Illthir Winlowe |

Little rough on my timelines, but if I remember correctly it ought to be more then a couple of weeks since the manor attack? Though news may not travel fast or far.

RPGGGM |

That's about right. You had to hang around for the construction crews to show up and then it would have been about week to travel back from Brevoy to the outpost, and then a couple of days since.

Illthir Winlowe |

Note to future selves!
Stroon might be a sorcerer or even arcanist. Someclass that can throw around a lot of lightning but not a wizard. Heck, they could even be a bard - but then they'd have a bit more sense of style :p
