I live in Virginia at the very northern end of what was considered "the South" in the Civil War. I moved here in the 2nd grade and thought people talked funny, but I chose to use "y'all" because it means "you plural", and regular English doesn't differentiate between "you singular" and "you plural". :)

Since it's probably going to be a slow week, Kathrine can go meet her friends, and she and I can role-play that if she wants. Anyone who's around (IRL) can tag along (in the game) if you want.

Apparently there's no roll for Invent, so Crackerjack gets the money (and himself) cleaned up pretty quickly.

Thomas, what are you doing?

So, Kathrine takes the vehicle, and drives to a sketchy part of Star City, where you have to be pretty tough (or crazy) to go, even not by yourself. She parks somewhere, walks a couple of blocks, goes up to a run-down building, and knocks in a certain pattern. Pretty soon someone on the other side knocks in a different pattern, and she replies with yet another pattern. The door opens, and a large man with a bald head and a beard, whose arms (at least) are covered in tattoos, says "Kate! Good to see you! Whatcha been up to?"

Kat throws her arms wide in greeting, "Charlie, how's it been. Fine for me ya know getting into as much trouble as possible and causing even more for the trouts if ya know what i mean. How's the leg, heard you had an incident with a satyr? Are the kids in or are they out playing already, need to see about some extra speeding tickets."
She leaned into the door and waited for him to respond, or for anyone else(if they came with) to pipe up.

...Is there really not? I've been holding off on making an "I did the thing" because I didn't have time to lok up what kinds of rolls I needed.

Crackerjack tinkers in his lab for a bit, then vindictively shoves a bomb into the stack of cash. There is an extraordinarily loud *BOOM*, and then everything is squeaky clean.

Well, technically there's a roll to *use* the invention, but since this was a one-off... I suppose something interesting would have happened had you critically failed, but...

Charlie says "Yeah, well, that satyr got worse than it gave. I haven't seen the kids in a while, they're in a safe place. Come on down and meet the rest of the gang." He takes you down some stairs to a room where several people are either lying about, or talking with each other, and there appears to be a card game going on in the corner. When Charlie says "Hey guys, Kate's here!", you get various greetings from "Yo!" to "Hey!" to being ignored. Apparently Charlie is your closest friend in the group.

"So, what you really want?" Charlie says, friendily.

Female Half-demon, Benny:3/4 |Wounds:1 |Pace: 6 Parry: 8/12(13) RATN: 7 Toughness: 17(6 armor) | Notice:D6

Kathrine laughed which seemed off point for her current getup. "Yeah you sure showed him, sorry I couldn't stay around to help ya know how it goes."

She returns a few of the greetings with casual waves and "Yo"'s of her own as well as a few "Whaz'up"s. The lack of fanfare is pretty fair considering how little she's been around recently. "Well i'd really like for the V'sori to get their asses off our planet, but i don't think you've just got a spare universe layin' around sooo... i'm lookin' for some sick wheels, or hover wheels. Ya see i've got a new gig with some O-types and well all they've got is this junky van. We're gonna start putting the twist on and making some sushi, but we need to make sure we don't get chopped before we even get our boots on the ground."

She flashed a fat wad of her share of the bank loot, "We've got cash, and you know i've got the skill to keep it running. Just need a good hookup and an actual invitation to the next party, I was lucky enough to find the last sign ya left. So do you think you can find me a hotrod for seven?"

Charlie ponders your request for a few moments, then says, rapid-fire "Ground or hover? Max speed? How many passengers? How much room for equipment? Built-in weapons?"

Female Half-demon, Benny:3/4 |Wounds:1 |Pace: 6 Parry: 8/12(13) RATN: 7 Toughness: 17(6 armor) | Notice:D6

Almost as if the two had gone through this before, more than once, she responds in kind. "Ground works i understand how hard hover can be to find. Fast enough to give a V'sori cruiser a run for it's money. I'd like for seven but we have at least one porter. I'm the only one who really carries gear but a bit of space would be nice for our victory haul. I'd have to ask the others about weapons you know i'm pretty up close and personal, but a reinforced raming plate always goes a long way." She knew that if anyone she knew could get a crazy set of wheels then Charlie was her guy, but in the state of the world, she wondered if there would still be machines like that around.

Charlie thinks for a couple of minutes, then says "I can get you what you want, but to be able to outrun a V'Sori cruiser is going to cost you double the basic vehicle. With high-speed, $400k - without, $200k."

Female Half-demon, Benny:3/4 |Wounds:1 |Pace: 6 Parry: 8/12(13) RATN: 7 Toughness: 17(6 armor) | Notice:D6

was our payout 500k for everyone or 500k all together, plus bails jewelry etc?

$500k all together (as opposed to per person), plus whatever's in the safe deposit boxes.

Kathrine bit her lip and stepped away for a moment, "Gonna have to ring this one in on the new crew Charlie." she walked a little ways away from Charlie before she pulled up her communicater.

"So i can get us a kick-ass ride that'll outrun cruisers... but it's gonna be most of our haul, and we'll need to have a place in the base for it. We're running four-hundred kays if we want super fast and half that if we wanna leave avoiding them to good ol' fashion police chases down deadly narrow passages. What do ya think?"

Everyone chime in with your opinion!

"A faster vehicle would help us stay clear of V'sori ships. I will get to work on clearing a space to create a garage for the inevitable repairs that will be needed. "

When the original players created the base, they included a "garage" that's got a tunnel that comes out some distance away, so that you can come and go undetected.

Enkidu shrugs when asked.

"I prefer to fly most of the time, so I don't much care. Does this vehicle do aerial? Ground based vehicles wont get us very far if we need to outrun a hover ship. Hell, I've watched enough COPS over the years to know even a Helecopter can keep close enough tabs on a ground based vehicle that you're pretty unlikely to escape, unless you know a network of tunnels or another kind of escape route."

That's 3 clear votes for the faster vehicle. Kathrine, if you want it as well, that's a majority and you can go ahead.

Kathrine finished with her multi-way call and turned back to address Charlie. "Alright we'll take it, think we can make it hover for an extra hundred grand? If not i don't mind, and I don't have all of the cash on me right now, so if we need to dead drop or just meet up later or with the dealer that's fine by me." With a roll of the shoulder she slid her backpack towards the front of her arm and produced twenty grand, holding it in her off-hand as she reached out to finalize the deal. "And don't forget to give me a ring-up when the rest of the gang is in town. Might have some work for em myself."

Charlie takes the cash, and says, "Sorry, but hover would cost $200k, and it would only get you a yard off the ground. We don't have access to the V'Sori tech that allows their vehicles to actually fly. I'll give you a call if any of the old gang shows up. It'll take me some time to get your new ride myself, so let's each of us call the other when we're ready, ok?"

after that she'll make small talk with Charlie and a few more people around and then head on her way back to base. Ready to continue the story-story when ya'll are.

If we're worried about the capabilities of these flying V'sori cruisers, why dont we set up an op to steal one, and then spend our money suping it up and retrofitting it?

Female Half-demon, Benny:3/4 |Wounds:1 |Pace: 6 Parry: 8/12(13) RATN: 7 Toughness: 17(6 armor) | Notice:D6

"I don't know how to fix any v'sori tech... I bet even Paradigm and Crackerjack would have a hard time with keeping that stuff running let alone making it even better. Not to mention hiding it, not saying stealing one wouldn't be useful or fun. I just don't think we're quite there yet on our teamwork ya know."

Kat paused for a bit and let the idea of flying a literal space ship sink in for a moment, it sent chills down her spine. "That'd be so cool..."

Sorry, I missed your question to Charlie...

"Hard to say - could be a couple of days to a couple of weeks."

So, how are you (all) going to go about converting the stuff from the safe deposit boxes into cash?

Female Half-demon, Benny:3/4 |Wounds:1 |Pace: 6 Parry: 8/12(13) RATN: 7 Toughness: 17(6 armor) | Notice:D6

OK, EVERYBODY, TIME TO GET BACK IN THE GAME! Your Christmas-turkey-induced stupors and your New Year's Eve hangovers should be long gone, let's get this game back in action! :)

One thing I'm worried about is that since the bank heist and converting the goods to cash only involved a few players, the other players may be losing interest.
Is it time to get back to a Dr. Destruction-ordered mission, so that everyone can be involved again?

Now that the bank heist is done, Paradigm is focused on getting his hands on the McGuffin at the museum that will give him insight into his powers. I.e., a story reason he can spend his points on powers when he gets them.

Katherine:

Thomas materializes next to you at some harmless-seeming time. "Hey there," he says sheepishly. "So, I would be much better at helping you guys if I had another vibro-blade, and I can pay for one, but I don't "technically" know a lot of people.

You do seem to know people, so could you help me out with someone that can get my something better than this dumb switchblade that I'm running around with?"

He displays his tiny tiny switchblade that has had much trouble hurting people in the recent history.

Catching her just before she heads into the basic training room Kathrine almost instinctively reaches for her blade but stops herself. "Damnit Tom, your lucky i'm not green, I know some who eoulda stabbed the crap outta you for appearing like that."

She mulled his question over a bit, "I can see if we can add Magic cheese knife to the order, dunno if it'll be quick on the delivery. Ya know with the new postal employees and what not."

Up to the GM on this one, but Kat would try to get ahold of Charlie and see about getting Tom a new jabber.

Kathrine would spend the remaining downtime cleaning up the workshop for their new vehicle and making use of the training room.

sorry for the double post missed the edit window

Thomas:

Kathrine smirked at Thomas's switchblade, "Bit of an antique these days i'd wager your lucky to be able to open a rusted can of beans or a slot for kidney donations. So what are you in the market for, vibrating sushi knife, magical meat clever, archangel's face razor? Wanna stick with pokers or do you wanna move up to a big kid weapon? " She tapped her own sword with a fingernail at the question a sly smile forming on her lips.

"I think your more of a sneaky stabby myself so i'll ask him about that. But that also raises a question if i may." her features softened a bit. "How did you get in the whole sneaky, stealing, stabbing business? Like, I didn't really get much choice, join with SIF or be incinerated not really much choice for a young kid. But surely you had sone choices where to best use your powers?"

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Katherine:

"Heh, yeah, I kinda got into the habit of just sneaking up on people and haven't...not stopped doing it. Sorry."

As Kat actually -asks- what he wants, Tom loses focus and stares at the floor for a bit.

"Whoa. I just...I just sort of assumed all I could get was another knife. But no, yeah, I guess...I guess I can -ask- for anything I wanted."

His eyes get dreamy and he gets a stupid grin on his face. "Y'know. What I've always _really_ wanted was a katana!" He starts making childish cutting motions and...lightsaber noises? "If I could get a Molecular Blade-katana that would be EPIC!

No, cut that.

Two katanas.

Failing that, I guess a Molecular Bladed sword would be good too?

Other than that, knives are nice, and I like Powered or Energy weapons. Just not chain-things. Too loud. If I wanted to make all the noise I'd just make myself a bangstick and have done.

Oh, and can your people do stunsticks? Basically I think its a billy club (or, really, any stick) that carries a stun charger. I've never had one--or, two, again--but I can see it might be useful?"

At her other question Tom loses much of his previous energy. "How did I get here? I dunno. I've never been a very loud person. It's been just me and mom since as long as I remember and she's always needed help with...y'know.

It just seems that since no one has ever noticed me before its just something I kinda got used to. And then, one day, I guess I cultivated it to a point where I got super good at it."

Thomas(and now that I think of it anyone in the training room honestly):

Kathrine laughed at Thomas getting excited about the idea of a Molecular bladed-katana, "I didn't take you for a samurai, but hey I'll see what Charlie can scrounge up. You wanna give a Non-vibrating sword a try to see if you're up for it? I promise Lex isn't, that, heavy."

She nodded with his telling of how he'd gotten to being well a villain and folded her arms, "Can't say I know exactly, but family is family and that counts for a lot... not that I exactly know what a mother does, but she seems to take care of all of us so clearly she's a good one ey? Well it's good that Doctor Destruction noticed your handy talents... ehh that was bad, but seriously Tom having someone who can just phase through walls is super handy, just gotta work a little on the stabbing arm."

I'm doing this quick, so we can move on to other heists...

Kathrine:
You contact Charlie, and he says he can get you a vibro-knife for $5000 or a vibro-sword for $10000. No vibro-katanas, sorry - they are very rare and VERY expensive. Stun wands are $2000. Ask Thomas how many of each he wants.

So, those of you who are interested in the museum heist - start discussing plans!

When the time comes to discuss plans for the museum heist, Paradigm is easily taken from his experiments in the lab.

"It appears the bank job went off without too much of a problem. This should go just as smooth if similar procedures occur. I only want one thing. There is a book that contains information regarding the history of my... kind. Researching it would allow me to greatly expand my powers." As he is speaking, he holds up his hand and a holographic image of the book appears. It looks old and tattered, but otherwise intact. "Anything else with it will most likely be valuable to the right buyer, but the book is all I want. I will set about shutting down the building's electronic security, the rest I leave to your capable hands."

"So dO you want me to just jump in and grab the book and leave?" Thomas asks sheepishly.

"Surprisingly enough, I don't think it necessarily defeats our dual purpose." Crackerjack admits, with some reluctance.

"If you believe you can take a heavily guarded target without being detected, it sends a message to our adversaries that we have the ability to hit any target we wish with impunity. We'd need to leave behind some kind of calling card in place of the book of course; a bit basic, but the classics cannot ever be truly discarded. They've stood the test of time for a reason."

Paradigm raises a missing eyebrow towards Thomas. "As you put it so, pedestrian, yes. If all you wish to grab is my book, then take it and leave. As for a calling card. I believe anyone watching us, should they be able to get through our hacking of the security systems, will know it was us. Unless there is another of my kind out there, this book will be useless to anyone else." He pauses and thinks for a brief moment. "Perhaps one of the kid's comics would suffice for a 'calling card'."

While Thomas could do the job by himself, it would still be a good idea to have backup nearby in case anything goes south. Who wants to be a part of that backup is up to each player.

Kathrine laid out Thomas's options in choice of weaponry and theur approximate pricing, shooting a little high for a 'finder's fee'.

When the crew gathered for the deliberation on the museum heist.

"I'm sure we can all attest to Thomas's abilities in infiltration, but do we want to just assume things'll go as smoothly as the bank heist. No doubt everyone will beef up their security after the flawless break in."
