Several days later, you hear the familiar voice of Dr. Destruction come in over your comms :
“I have another assignment for you. First, contact a former V’sori
battlelord in Southpoint; his location and details on his situation have been uploaded to your commlinks. You may be able to convince him to aid you in your real quest: Penetrate the fortress of Hydra, the Mutant Mastermind and recover a particular device for me. It looks much like a silver and blue phone booth, but is much, much more, I can assure you.
Hydra’s base has already been taken by the aliens, so you’ll need to approach with caution and cunning. It would be best if the lab were destroyed. Hydra had quite a number of experiments I’d rather the V’sori
not get their hands on. It’s also imperative they don’t know what you took.”
Everyone has heard of Hydra, the Mutant Mastermind, one of Earth’s greatest villains. You heard rumors that Hydra died several weeks ago in an attack on his base by the V'Sori.
What do you do?
Professor Paradigm
Call the Doctor :-)
Paradigm, on hearing the word experiments, raises a bare eyebrow and shows a rare smile. "Destroyed or relocated?", he says to no one in particular. Paradigm goes through his memory regarding Hydra and anything about him he can muster up on any databases he can easily get into. As he sets a macro-program to do that, he goes to speak with the others.
"This sounds like a more complicated snatch and grab. This time we get to destroy something. I would like to preserve some of Hydra's research before we erase it from existence. Before that, having an inside idea on what defenses the V'sori have set up before we go in would be nice. This former battlelord may be able to tell us, or even, with a bit of convincing, use his influence to remove some of the obstacles in our way."
Thomas Roland
|
"Can you tell us HOW he might aid us?" Thomas calls up to the air.
We waits a moment, but then getting response mutters, "Would it help if I dropped my pants?
Giving up on getting any more from their enigmatic leader, he posits, "Anyone have a 20 on a buggy battlelord that really really wants to help us soft, squishy humans?
Also, good attitude, Bio-guy. But are you able to destroy an entire lab?
You can get some, but I think we should get a hold of some big big explosives too.
Just in case."
Crackerjack, Jonathan Crayke
"I wonder if we could get our hands on a sufficiently large disintegration field generator? V'Sori technology may be capable of figuring out what was destroyed by the leftover parts ." Crackerjack muses.

You all hear Dr. Destruction's voices in your ears again : "When I say I want something *destroyed*, it shall be destroyed. Do not do anything more or less or different than what I tell you to do, or you shall suffer dire consequences."
You all know enough about Dr. Destruction's reputation to know that he means what he says, and that no matter where you hide, he'd find you.
Kathrine 'Hellion' Mordonus
Kathrine laughed "Destruction is like my thirty seventh middle name i think... things get a bit complex when translating lengthy lineage names in the infernal tongue. But I have to ask Doctor, what if we find something that will actually help us against the V'sori." She rolled her hand knowing all well that he couldn't see it. Then shrugged at the others when he threatened consequence.
"I mean Hydra was a pretty bad cat, and if he's dead then we'd be getting rid of historically ingenious devices of destruction... Which could go straight into your own arsenal of well.. Destruction." She blew a raspberry and sized Biohazard up for a few moments, "In any case any specific way you want us to dispose of it all, explosives might not be enough to destroy these devices meant to stand up to super strength."
Thomas Roland

Thomas makes a calming motion at Kat. "Let's not wind ourselves in knots before we've even seen the place.
Now that I had a moment to think on it, I find myself trusting more to Bio-guy's ability to destroy things than to conventional explosives--or, at least, the minor kind we could whistle up in any kind of soon-ish time.
Let's at least hit this guy up and see what he has to say. Who knows? Maybe he has a tactical nuke in his pocket.
Or he'll just be happy to see us. Either way win-win!"
Thomas turns and checks his commlink for the details aforementioned.
Enkїdu
Enkidu pipes up from his usual spot on the couch. He's still wrapped up in that old leather tome he's been reading so much of lately.
"Thermite. Simple to make, simple to use. Powdered aluminium and iron oxide in the right proportions. Burns at a temperature of over 3000 kelven. Only thing that won't melt at that temperature is pure Tungston, and even that will be warped at those temperatures. No matter what whatshisface had in the lab, it is pretty much impossible to differentiate one pile of a slag from another."
"Better yet, we pull some chemical strings an get our hands on an industrial oxygenator, like Barium Nitrate, or whathaveyou. All of a sudden, our destructive substance burns even hotter, and the rush of gas and metal slab gets displaced by the reaction, even as the fires continue burn."

"The problem is that thermite is a very focused burn, is hard to ignite, and doesn't lend itself well to demolitions work on a large scale...unless you believe in certain conspiracy theories for the simple minded, of course."
Enkїdu
"Thus the Barium Nitrate. Thermite becomes Thermate. Metals are sublimated directly into gas, massively increasing the conductivity of heat. Military anti-materiel devices use thermate for exactly that reason.
"If we had some sort of super-science dude, he could probably come up with a Thermate based napalm. Flame throwers are also very simple devices. A thermate flame thrower seems ideal for this kind of job."
Professor Paradigm
Furrowing his brow line, Paradigm sets up a macro in his systems to record what he sees. At least I will have something left. Then he goes about trying to uncover a way to make what Enkidu goes on about. "Dr. Crayke, if you'll assist me in the lab, I believe we can come up with such a device while the others see about convincing the traitor to hand over the keys." He then rubs his temples as a massive headache starts to come on.
Super Sorcery Super Science!: 1d10 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -11d6 ⇒ 3
Backlash, Mystic Feedback: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 61d6 ⇒ 6
Science!: 1d8 ⇒ 61d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + (5) = 11
6 hours, no powers. 11 on the Science roll.

At the first part, Crackerjack gets a bit annoyed; it doesn't really solve the main problem of practicality and thoroughness, but at the second he pauses.
"From the mouths of babes and monsters..." he mutters, already moving toward the lab before Paradigm says anything.
I'm not 100% sure what to roll for this. I'm going to be putting a couple more points into Invent (I haven't applied the Advance yet), but maybe Kn. Engineering or Repair would be better if this is a "mundane" item?
Kathrine 'Hellion' Mordonus
Kat looked to Bio, "Ya know your sheer straightforwardness would be admirable if we were just a thuggish outfit."
She then yelled towards the docs, "So what should we do while you do your thing?"
Professor Paradigm
Paradigm says back, sardonically, "As I already said, go and get the traitor to give us the keys to the base. It shouldn't betoo difficult." He then closes the door so he and Dr. Crayke can get to work.

Apologies. Mondays and Tuesdays are my busy work days. Kudos on all the roleplaying! Everyone gets an extra Benny.
I wonder if we could get our hands on a sufficiently large disintegration field generator?
There are no such things as disintegrators in this world to your knowledge.
Paradigm, can you please tell me what game-system process you were rolling for? And describe exactly what results you were going for.
Crackerjack - since Paradigm rolled Science, I believe according to the rules you can only aid him with a Science roll of your own.
ALL - the information that shows up on your screens is this :
A V’sori special operations Battlelord named Ikaran was recently publicly shamed and demoted by his boss, who is now in charge of Hydra's fortress. Ikaran has just been demoted from field work to riding a desk in a communications relay station somewhere in Star City’s Southpoint section of town. Through subtle inquiries Destruction has surmised that Ikaran may be willing to cooperate with you if it means revenge against his rival. You should try and convince Ikaran to use his intimate knowledge of the V’sori base and sabotage skills to blackout the area around the bunker, allowing a strike team to get past the defenses and grab the "telephone booth" with minimal resistance. His communications bunker is located on the top floor of an old tenement in Southpoint (GPS coordinates provided).
Professor Paradigm
Researching how to build a thermate flamethrower, as Enkidu suggested, to burn the base and all its contents to Cinders.
Kathrine 'Hellion' Mordonus
Kat threw on a good shirt a not so good pair of ripped up jeans and a trusty jacket, holstering her weapons she looked to Thomas. "Guess we get to go have a talk with the fish, probably best to go in a bit quieter. As much as i'd love to drive my new baby right into the thick of things." She gave a glance at everyone else, "Anyone else for coming to go star on Sharktank?"
Guess Kat and Tom are on conversation duty with the v'sori, unless anyone else wants to come to.

Yeah...Crackerjack doesn't have Arcane Background: Super Science. He has Engineering and Repair, which is what's usually used for stuff like this to my knowledge.
GM_ZenFox42
Crackerjack - please note, I said Paradigm rolled "Science", not Super-Science (well, actually he did roll Super-Science but failed, then tried Science and succeeded. So according to the cooperative rules, you'd need to roll Science as well.
Paradigm - what specific game mechanic (by name) are you using? Like "build a device", if there is such a thing described in the rules.
Kathrine 'Hellion' Mordonus
Kathrine and Thomas make their way to the V'sori defector by mode of walking downtown, "So you think this guy thing is gonna try to stab us in the back or do you think there could actually be disruption in the system? Figured that a world dominating super culture would be able to keep everything under control, but there's always someone who'll want for more."
Thomas Roland
|
"Oh no, I'm quite sure that he'll be willing to help us.
They're not robots and they don't have a hive-mind, so you'll always have outliers that are sick of the system because they got screwed out of something, or want something they can't or don't have, or just had other things in their life go astray and want to get some kind of feelings of importance some other way.
The V'Sori have more power than us, but that doesn't mean they're omnipotent."
Kathrine 'Hellion' Mordonus
Kat shrugged, "Yeah I suppose, haven't really stopped to think about them as people too." She flapped her hand tossing the subject away, "Can't go in there with that on the brain though, so how do we wanna play this. Scope it out first then go in and talk, bad cop, worse cop. Good cop, bad cop, or just see where life takes us?"
She cracked her neck, "Dealing in demons hasn't really left me with much people skills."
Thomas Roland
|
"Meh. Let's just talk to the guy. We got a hot lead from The Man himself, so this isn't like we're trying to crack an unknown.
Don't forget that we're doing this guy a favor, taking down thems that wronged him. Enemy of my enemy and what not.
He's gonna be as anxious to help us as we are to...let him. So I think we can just walk right in."
GM_ZenFox42
Hellion and Thomas get to a neighborhood in Southpoint, which is pretty much a slum. The GPS directions indicate a 30-story crumbling old tenement building, and they say to go up.
As you're standing outside the building, near the entrance, the two of you please make a Notice roll, at -2.
I'm concerned the other players will get bored while Hellion and Thomas do their thing. If there's anything you want your PC to be doing this day (while this will only take a day of "game" time, it could take a week or more of "real" time), please let me know.
Professor Paradigm
Paradigm will spend his time perfecting the device he and Crackerjack developed. It has to be tested, for Scientific Reasons, of course. Otherwise, he is content to wait until the others return.
Kathrine 'Hellion' Mordonus
Kat looked up the building and let out a whistle.
"Time aure hasn't done this thing any favors but i bet it's plenty stable. You do you though, not like i can take the same precaution. Let's figure out where this fish dude lives. I guess if anything i can gead down the side if we really need to escape fast."
notice: 1d6 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
wild: 1d6 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3
Kathrine 'Hellion' Mordonus
Kathrine gives a side glance to the elevator but steps in. "You know, this is setting up to be one hell of a scene. We'll barely get to the floor we need, the elevator will give out half-way. Then we're gonna be forced to make a quick escape and the elevator won't work or some s+$+." She waited for Thomas to enter and then pressed the button for the thirteenth floor just as a hunch. The demoness found herself leaning on the back wall tail whipping from one side to the other more out of boredom than anything, lightly slapping the insides of the rickety box.
"Would be nice if we had a bit more to go off of than, disgruntled employee wants revenge on the boss."
Were there any nearby buildings/non dilapidated ones or is this one pretty much isolated from the rest of the block?
