His/her Dex went up by 3, though, which makes him/her harder to hit, and he/she got back the point in Str he lost to middle age.
Also, referring to Jask in the third person just got immensely more complicated.
His Con used to be 7, so now it's 6, which will have no effect on hit points luckily.
And yes, pronouns just got confusing--at least until he/she decides what he/she wants to be called.
6 Con?! I'm amazed he/she hasn't been done in by the chicken pox yet. Now Douena feels even more protective. :P
That's why he was always sick while we were on the island.

That's actually a pretty good take on Lorenz, Navior. Sounds a lot like him from what I remember. Well done. :)
Thanks! I realized I'd left Lorenz pretty silent recently, so felt I should have him do something. :)
I think if I'm to have any chance of getting your party up anywhere near the WBL guidelines, I'm just going to have to have some treasure lying on the ground in front of you as you travel. Even then, you'll probably just go around it. ;)

Because it's obviously a trap. If you want to make sure someone goes to look at it, have a tiny bear sleeping on it. :)
Well, the AP can't have it both ways: We can't simultaneously be in a desperate race to get to a lost city before our nefarious rivals and have the time for unrelated side treks along the way. :P
I am fully in favor of finding a swarm of Tiny bears, however.
If we do find a swarm of tiny bears, Urza will get one and name it Douena.
Makoa will name his "Rations".
Is there something we're waiting on other than you having time to make a travel post, Navior?
No, we're just waiting for me to have the time. I've been caught up in a lot of work projects the last few days. There will definitely be a travel post up by tomorrow. :)
Now that I've had chance to work on maps myself, I am even more impressed with yours.

I don't have access to the map, Navior. Do you still have my gmail account or do I need to send it to you?
Oh, oops! I forgot to add you to this game! I've have now done so, you should have access to the map now. Sorry about that!

You always roll a 1 for me. :P
Goes to show how often Douena makes an attack roll, that a rogue can forget about sneak attack damage. I was really just planning to give Pezock a flank so he could be sure to finish him off.

[ooc]Tar'kanas & Sasha
Tar'kanas wrote: Sounds good. And Operation: Replace Lorenz proceeds apace. First, his combat role is filled by another archer; next, Tar'kanas moves in on Sasha with all his elf-y charm. ;)
Navior wrote: Sorry for the delays. It's taken time to get the next encounter ready... So... is the encounter hidden in that post somewhere? Are we waiting on Dax to react?
Heh, it's not actually the encounter yet. :)
I had intended to wait briefly to see if there was a reaction and then continue on. However, life set in and I've been kept really busy. In fact, I probably won't get a chance to post tomorrow either, but things should be back to normal on Friday.
Why Dax? Urza got the low roll.
Because it's just you and two NPCs awake? I presume noticing the moment of silence is a Perception DC 0, so you're aware of it. Don't know what you can really do other than ask Lorenz and Shokambe, "Wonder what that's all about?" though. :D
I haven't been on Paizo nearly as often as IN used too... It's nice to see a white background again.
I have got to learn to stop saying that things will be back to normal on a specific day. It never quite works out that way. Sigh.
Anyway, sorry for the delay. Things really are back to normal now! (I think.)
I've found that the best way to ensure unexpected emergencies pop up is to say that I expect to have some uninterrupted free time at a specific point.
Ooh, Douena wants a Fine lizard now. Better yet, a swarm of them....
FYI: My wireless connection is not working right and my posting will be less consistant for a short time.
510 new avatars! At long last!
Joana wrote: 510 new avatars! At long last! Hooray! Unfortunately, it's going to take awhile before I can find time to go through all of them. I did take a quick glance, though, and noticed that there's an Ameiko avatar now that I don't need it. :)
If they ever put up the "real" Sandru avatar, I missed it. They're supposed to be caught up with all their new products now. There's finally some choice for gnomes that aren't Lini and quite a few extra halflings and half-orcs.
For what its worth I got the wireless working.

Mahjik the Flink wrote: Quote: A panicked creature must drop anything it holds and flee at top speed from the source of its fear, as well as any other dangers it encounters, along a random path. Merely a desire to "get away"? That random path bit is going to cause havoc. Yeah, it's basically DM-controls-your-PC time for the next x rounds. And then it takes a second x rounds to get back once the fear wears off. And Douena has expeditious retreat on, so she'll be a mile away and weaponless and lost in the jungle. And she doesn't have Survival so she can't find her way back but will have to wait for someone to come look for her.
Hence, why I hate fear effects. :P
Fortunately Shokambe also happens to be a level 8 cleric with a couple of calm emotions prepared
For some reason the boards aren't letting me post in the main game thread. Last time something like this happened, it cleared up after somebody else posted. So, would somebody mind doing a quick little meaningless post to see if it will then let me post? Thanks. :)
Is it letting you Preview but not Submit? That's usually because you're using the same text as in another post on the page, as a spam/double-post preventer.
EDIT: Although I can't imagine which of the posts you'd be repeating. Can you post over here and then reply and copy/paste to the main thread?
Nope, won't let me preview either. Any attempt to preview or submit just sends me back to the main messageboards page.
Woohoo! Replying to Douena's post worked! Thanks, Joana! :)
Sorry guys. I'm having internet issues again. This time I even made sure I paid the bill. Hopefully, it will be fixed by Thursday.
Hey, LoreKeeper, you know Mahjik's still first level on his profile? :P
I just got my wireless fixed and I swear it is more broken now than before. Why can't they just get it right?

I hate fear spells. Just hate 'em.
I'm sick of them being used as random "You randomly don't get to participate in this encounter for a random reason but as soon as combat's over you're magically teleported back to your party and ready to move forward to the next planned encounter" effects. If I'm going to be inconvenienced, then everyone's going to be inconvenienced. :P
Well it depends on where you're at, but in this case, I agree. Douena is a fair distance from the rest of us in unforgiving jungle. Even considering that she is one of the most wilderness savvy of the group, that is not a good thing. I think it would be a missed opportunity if she were to just reappear at the party. By the way, I feel the same about Pezock, but at least he can be done 'off screen' as he is an NPC.

She's not wilderness-savvy at all. She has no ranks in Survival or Knowledge (geography). But, yeah, exactly how dangerous and trackless can this jungle be if someone can just go tearing off into it along a random path and then simply saunter back at his leisure, with no chance of running into anything hazardous along the way? Might as well be the bunny slope of a featureless plane.
You say "there are times" when the actual rules on getting lost should be disregarded; quite frankly, in 15 years of playing, I've never seen them regarded. Gygax no doubt meant the random path of fear effects to screw the players by making them blunder into traps or into wandering monsters, but most DMs are jerks enough to send them toward spiked pits or break out the random encounter tables, no matter how many rounds the PCs are running or what sort of hazards they're surrounded by. The panicked condition ought merely to be replaced with text that reads "Characters are out of phase with normal existence for two times caster level number of rounds, during which time they can take no actions and nothing can affect them." Because the only effect of the condition generally enforced is a meta-effect on the player disallowing them from taking part in the game for x number of rounds. The actual distance travelled and what might be encountered in between is handwaved.

We handwave huge portions of the journey every day. This is only a few minutes being handwaved here. Douena was only fleeing for a minute. With expeditious retreat, the best she could manage in a single round is 240 feet, but once she's away from the river's edge and into the jungle, she would be encountering difficult terrain, lowering her to just 60 feet per round. At most, she travelled 2400 feet total, but only if she stayed right beside the river, in which case she can find her way back easily. Otherwise, she travelled around 600 feet, which would still keep her relatively close to the river. There is absolutely no way it would take nine hours for her to find the others or for them to find her. I don't care what the rules as written say. And if you're encountering hazards and/or monsters every 600 feet through the jungle, you'll never get through it. :)
Now, I do accept that the fear spell is unfair, and I very much regret using it (it has reminded me why I so rarely use the given tactics for monsters). I won't be using it again any time soon.
Add in Makoa's ability to track by scent in addition to ignoring vegetation based difficult terrain...
