Incorrect.

In short, here is how it works.

You figure out the cost of special material ammunition the normal way (or look it up on the table of page 141). If you have the Gunsmithing feat you can craft non-alchemical cartridge ammunition for 10% of the cost. If you have at least 1 rank in Craft (alchemy) you can craft alchemical cartridges for half the price of the cartridge.

You pay to "craft" non-alchemical ammo for 1/10 of the normal price, and 1/2 of the price for alchemical cartridge.

Has anyone else been having trouble with this site?

Slow to react, pages claiming to be broken or inaccessible (I don't get the Maintenance Rat, I get The Golem), buttons needing to be clicked multiple times before they work, that sort of thing?

Yes. I'm getting a lot of 504 (Gateway Timeout) errors, more than usual.

But, on the bright side, I haven't noticed posts disappearing, which is the most infuriating bug and what often happens when the other things happen.

Yes, and it's kind of annoying. :-(

ATTENTION ALL PATHFINDERS
(and potential skittermanders)!

As noted in recent blog post for the August 2025 Organized Play Monthly Update, the deadline is September 5th for players to register their first Starfinder Society (second edition) game and unlock a skittermander character in Pathfinder Society! For play-by-post community, this applies specifically to games begun on or before September 5th!

If you haven't tried Pathfinder 2e and/or Starfinder, now's a great time to get started. It's a great system in a great setting and not a few familiar faces have had a hand in putting it together.

My thoughts precisely (I just didn't feel hopeful enough about the answer to ask).

PFS1 multi-table specials work in the same way as other non-evergreen scenarios (i.e. you would need to use a replay to play it more than once under the same campaign).

Gota be here somewhere, but what is the current online lodge reporting number? I used to report using my own, but seem to recall we were asked to use a lodge number a while back.

Liberty's Edge

I don't think there's a number for Flaxseed/1E; you just have to report your session using the form linked in the thread header. If there was a reporting number, it would've been in the header (like the one for Cottonseed/2E).

Silver Crusade

Human Male | VA | Auckland, New Zealand | UTC+12 | 124312 | PFS2e 6-12 | PFS1e 7-01 | PFS1e 1-46

There is a number for the Starfinder Lodge but I don't recall one for the PFS1e lodge. I've always used my own for reporting but there's a form somewhere that needs to be completed so there is a count of games through the Lodge.

Lantern Lodge

Silent tide map

I did the form. I used to use my own, but found a 2022 chronicle I cut that had a 2022 lodge number. I'll give the hive-mind (or our local friendly VC) 24 hours, and then go and use my own.

Venture Lieutenant, Play by Post (online)

There is not, and has never been, a shared reporting event for Flaxseed other than convention games (or OSP, but that was another whole can of worms). GMs report to their own events and also fill out our quick form so that we can know how many games have been run from the lodge.

I was looking at 2699708 - 2020 Online Support Program PbP.

But I have used my own since then, so back to that. Thanks.

OK, I have a problem that seems to be all-new as of the last 24 hours: GoogleDocs has decided my browser isn't good enough anymore, and demands I "upgrade"; now I can't use the GoogleDocs toolbar. The problem is, I don't know just what kind of "upgrade" it's demanding.

I am contemplating plans for a Ninja character; could/would anyone remind me whether "Alternative" Classes (E.G. Ninja and Samurai) are permitted to take Archetypes meant for their "parent" classes so long as they have the corresponding Class Features the Archetype replaces? This would open up an awful lot of options for Ninja especially.

They are not. Technically they're their own classes so aren't able to take archetypes for their Alternative classes.

Venture-Agent, Wisconsin

While Jason Bulmahn said that alternative classes are archetypes...

Jason Bulmahn wrote:

Hi there all,

James does a pretty good job explaining the point behind alternate classes here, but I want to further explain a few points.

- Alternate classes are really just expanded archtypes. The distinction is that for an alternate class, we represent all of the rules needed to run the class. It is similar to its base, but has a significant number of swaps. There are certainly some archtypes that could have received this treatment, but we chose to leave them as more abbreviated write ups.

- Alternate classes live in the same design niche as their base class. This is the most important part. Although the ninja and the rogue, for example, have a number of differences, they have a number of conceptual and rules niches in common. We did not want to have to invent another version of sneak attack, for example, when the current one works fine for both. Had we invented another, it would have been similar but undoubtedly different in power to sneak attack, which is a bad place to be.

One last thing.. the adversarial tone in this thread (and a few others) can stop now. I don't want to have to close down threads.

Jason Bulmahn

And James Jacobs said that alternative classes are essentially archetypes...

James Jacobs wrote:
Alternate classes like the antipaladin, ninja, and samurai ARE essentially archetypes. They're just archetypes for which we went through and gave you the full level advancement chart for. And artwork too! So as long as they didn't give up a class feature that is a requirement for a feat or whatever... yup... they still can take that feat/trait/thing.

but those two are not venture-agent, are they? I'm sure you know who you should listen to.

Does this have anything to do with my question/problem above?:

I just want to issue another blanket-apology for my sub-par attendance in many of the games I'm presently in (or in one case, DMing!); I've been busy, I've been struggling, I've been tired, I've been distracted, I just got two fillings yesterday, other medical horseshit, various conflicts and disappointments and fretting and other things to do, all that jazz. SEMPER ALIQUID.

Real life, though often annoying, must always come first. Handle your business and this world will be waiting for you when you get back.

Opal of Bhopan Games I've Played (Session Tracker)

The announcement about the launch of the new paizo store may have some people concerned about what will happen to the forums and how that will impact play here in general and PBP Gameday XIV games in particular. There is no expected impact other than the "couple of days" downtime for the games that are being run off the forums. However, we all know that tech upgrades rarely go smoothly, so we will need to be flexible and roll with whatever happens.

For standard scenarios being run on the Paizo Forums, that means just checking in on your games regularly and waiting for the site to come back up. If technical glitches keep games from being finished before the end date of Gameday, we will work with you to finish up and get some late reporting in.

For those running or playing in the PFS1, PFS2, or SFS1 Multi-Table Specials, we will likely pause ALL games (both on the forums and in the discords) until the forums players are able to rejoin.

Keep Calm and remember you have a +2 bonus to Will Saves against fear (of the forums breaking) effects.

What new Paizo store? Is there a link somewhere for the announcement?

Ansha wrote:

Hi everyone,
I hope you’re all doing well.

Just came back from a long Pathfinder break of more than two years. Actually tried to join a pbp Gameday game in March but had not realized that it’s a Core game so it didn’t happen.

Just wanted to know if Pathfinder 1st edition games are still being played at all on these forums? I saw that the Recruitment page is quite empty.

Have a great week!

Best,
Noral / GM Nowruz

There’s actually a GameDay going on right now, and I’m running a standard PFS1 game in it. Enjoyed our GM rotation group way back when, so I decided to try my hand at pbp GMing again.

Venture-Agent, Wisconsin

There aren't many new games starting up right now because we are in the middle of a convention, Gameday XIV. PFS1 is still being played here. Welcome back.

Thank you both for the quick reply!

@Ansha: Ohh, I can remember Way of the Kirin! :-D

@Colin: Your name sounds familiar, but I’m honestly not sure if we played together.

I’ll definitely wait to see if anyone starts a game in the near future.

aka GM Kaervek, male human Buerocrat 1

Welcome back, noral!

Yes, PFS1 is still here - we're not going anywhere. ;-)

After Gameday XIV - which ends at November 26th - I'm sure you'll find a few recruiting posts here in Flaxseed.

Looking forward to playing with you again! :-D

Hey noral, glad to see you back…

Sadly, I think 1e is slowly fading away but remnants of us will probably be around for quite a while yet; I’m part of a GM rotation and we might be down one. We took a break since it’s Gameday but are likely to get things rolling when it’s over. I’ll give you a holler if I hear of a game starting up or if I GM one anytime soon…

I still GM 1e, either here or online for the Silicon Valley crowd since their Friday evening matches with my Saturday afternoon. I actually have a few games on the go at the moment but I'm willing to take requests for when they're done.

If you offer, they will come (me included).

Liberty's Edge

Not sure about PFS1E, but we're coming off of at least two PF1E AP recruitments in the past couple of weeks--so that's still a thing.

Thanks for the nice welcome and the information!

I’ll definitely check out the sites here regularly now. ;-)

I played in your Heroes of Highdelve game back in 2022, and was invited to your GM rotation game. But I guess that's when you start your PFS hiatus so there wasn't any new game (that I'm aware of).

I was a PFS newbie last time we talked, and now I'm 5 stars GM + Venture Agent. How time flies...
