Bewitched? I Dream of Jeanie? You're showing your age with those. I'm showing my age by not only getting the referrences, but also remembering the episodes.
Hey, I didn't say I watched them first-run in prime time. They've been all over syndication for decades. ;)
Just out of interest, are we approaching a level-up?
We last leveled up in September of 2012. It was just before the party reached Kalabuto, so we've had the assassins who killed Jask, the Mzali warriors, the giant vampire monkeys, the spriggans, and the succubus. I think that's everything we've fought since then.

LoreKeeper |

You missed out on the recent dream encounter. Just because a lucky stun nerfed the fight, doesn't mean she wasn't a significant (CR6?) encounter. Not to mention our social encounters in Kalabuto.
September 2012... okay, we had some bouts of fairly slow postings too. Still... Navior? *nudgenudge*bambieyes*

Navior |

Are we waiting on something?
You're waiting on me. I've been caught up in a ton of stuff the last week and have gotten very little done as a consequence. My apologies to everyone--again!
Good news though! I am now on holiday for a couple of weeks and I think...(don't want to jinx things here)...I should actually have free time again! At last! On with the game!

Yeah, quite a few bouts of slow posting, many of which have been my fault, alas.
You already got XP for everything in Kalabuto--at least, I'm pretty sure you did. I've actually managed to misplace my notes on time passage, so I'm going to have to trawl back through the thread to recreate them. I do still have your current XP total, which is still quite a ways from a level gain. Even with XP from the spirit dancers and Zakiyya, I don't think it'll be enough for a level gain. That said, I didn't realize it had been quite so long since the last one. I may just artificially inflate the XP to let you go up, since I have left out some parts of this adventure and I want you to be at the right level by the end.

Navior |

You realize XP inflation is just going to put us even farther behind Wealth By Level. ;)
Shush, you! No pointing out the flaws in my plans! ;)
Seriously though, I'll be adding some extra treasure into the next section of this adventure. I intend to see you at (or very very near) wealth by level by the end.
So with that said, I hereby grant everybody 5001 xp, which will put you at exactly 23000 and 6th level. Feel free to level up!

Navior |

You could always double up on treasure: "This fallen foe is wearing two sets of armor and carrying two magic swords. No, he's not a two-weapon-fighter; he's just ... afraid of rust monsters and sundering."
Why stop at doubling? Given that most of the foes in this adventure carry absolutely nothing of any value, just giving them anything at all would multiply their wealth by infinity! :)

You realize that means it's all Douena's fault, don't you? ;)

That wasn't obvious to everyone already?
Navior, I have a question. Can I Wild Shape at level four as a Wolf Shaman? The designer of the Shaman archetypes has said WS was meant to be delayed until level six, but there's been no errata/FAQ that I could find.

Hmmm...
There does seem to be some weirdness there.
Wild Shape (Su): At 6th level, a wolf shaman’s wild shape ability functions at her druid level –2. If she takes on the form of a canine, she instead uses her druid level + 2.
The text doesn't specify that wild shape is delayed until 6th level. However, it wouldn't make much sense if it's not. The -2 clearly applies starting at 6th level, so if the wolf shaman could wild shape at 4th, the ability would function at level 4, then 5, then 4 again when the shaman reached 6th level. It really does look to me like wild shape is meant to be delayed entirely until 6th level. It could definitely be written more clearly though.

There isn't a difference in Wildshape between 4th and 5th level, though being able to turn into something other than a wolf once a day and into a wolf, or just a wolf twice a day does seem weird. I'm fine with it being at 6th though.
1d8 ⇒ 5

It doesn't affect the number of times per day, true, but it does affect duration (1 hour/level), which would go from 4 hours to 5, then back to 4 again. :)

Navior! Dude. How in the WORLD do you find time to run pbp's? I mean, seriously!
Man I went to the main Paizo page because I was curious about this Mummy Mask AP coming out. Well after reading all the blurbs of the first 5, I decided to look at Reign of Winter.
Well, I clicked on it. Then I scrolled down and saw a few folks with some reviews. I saw the, "You can find my review on Of Dice and Pen", or something like that.
Anyway, what I didn't realize is, is that was you until I saw your pic in the top corner. So I'm thinking that's pretty cool. So I read your reviews on the Reign AP. Just the unspoilered part of course. And then I click on one of the spoilers on one of the parts to the AP and there's this GIGANTIC REVIEW! I'm like, "Daaaang that's a lot of writing!"
And THEN, I saw Doctor Who. And then I find this SUPER MASSIVE review on sexism. I didn't read all of this because there's just no way. But then I see ALL those other reviews on tons of other stuff and I'm like, "How in the crappin' heck does he find time to do all of this?"
Dude! I cannot begin to fathom how you can run ANY pbp's and keep up with all those reviews at the same time. Do you have any time whatsoever to like: Breathe? Sleep? Anything?
That's pretty amazing. Or insane. I'm not sure which. ;) I mean, the time involved with all of it is beyond my comprehension. And when I say that I mean that LITERALLY. Just trying to figure it out hurts my head. I just cannot see where you get the time. I can't. I just can't. You could probably explain it to me in great detail, and I still wouldn't be able to understand how you do it.
I'm just gonna roll with, "It's a timey-wimey, wibbly-wobbly issue." Why? Because it's Doctor Who even though I don't understand that either. But I like it because it answers nothing -- and everything. :)

Navior |

Heh, I actually often berate myself for not accomplishing enough. Numerous days go by where I don't get as much writing done as I planned, or don't complete a new review/blog post, or don't get the latest pbp map ready, and so on. I end up feeling incredibly unproductive.
A good example is my last blog post (my review of the Inner Sea NPC Codex) was four days ago. Since then I had intended to post two more reviews (one of the season premiere of Sherlock and one of a couple episodes of Wizards Vs Aliens). Neither are completed yet. I've spent much of this evening agonizing over not having at least one up yet (although the Sherlock review is nearly ready and will be up sometime tomorrow).
However, reading a response like yours helps me realize that I'm often much too hard on myself, so thank you so much for that! It's nice to have someone throw a little reality at me sometimes! :)

Makoa Wolf'sKin |

So many irl distractions! >.<
I'll try and get Makoa his Druid level sometime soonish. Probably between tweaking RotRL for my players...
A half-fiend, a half-gold dragon, three humans(pole arm fighter, paladin/sorceress, nature oracle npc) with crazy stats(you start with a six in each stat, then roll any number of d6 from a pool of twenty and add the result, with no stat going over 18 before racial mods).
I'm really having trouble challenging them. It doesn't help the sorceress has Antagonize and a huge Diplomacy modifier.

LoreKeeper |

@Makao: Antagonize flounders against big groups.
Also try to set up encounters that encourage party-splitting (either by incentive, "to get the most treasure all these things have to be achieved at the same time"; or alternatively by NPC manipulations or straight up magic such as wall of force). Especially multi-layered encounters work well to challenge a party; by that I mean multiple encounters happen simultaneously or start while the prior encounter isn't done yet.

Makoa Wolf'sKin |

One such multi-encounter is actually coming up soon, and the halfers will be the only ones able to
I can tell you now the final boss of the whole adventure is definitely getting the Mighty template.

Heh, it does kind of sound like that, doesn't it? ;)
"The ancient evil will not stand in our way!" Pezock declares. "It shall fall before our might and its treasures will be ours!"
For whatever reason, I imagined this in Brian Blessed's voice as I wrote it.

Joana |

"Right. ...hmmm... I don't supposed one of you got a spirit animal that would help with this, ya?
The spirit animal boon only gives a bonus to a single skill check; we're in a situation where we'll be taking 10 or 20 over an extended period of time. Doesn't seem applicable.
Frankly I don't know what we're supposed to do to find the city. Perception checks? Survival checks? It's been twenty days real-time, and we haven't progressed at all.

Joana |

I meant it's been twenty days in real-life since Shokambe suggested we start searching in a spiral pattern, but we still seem to be standing around and talking about it. We're making progress in character, but we're stalled out in real time. Navior's got to advance the action; there's nothing we can do about it. Unless I just have Douena say, "Oh, look, there it is! And there's a little girl at the front gates with a box of Tiny bears to give away to good homes!"

Navior |

Joana's absolutely right. There's really nothing else you need to do in-game to reach your destination. We're stalled in real life due to my pathetic posting rate of late. I keep hoping to turn that around and then something else keeps getting in the way. I still hope to turn things around, but I have to admit that I'm starting to wonder if I should end one or both of my games. I don't want to do that, but it's also not fair to you all that I keep you waiting all the time.
At any rate, there will be a new post up in both games shortly. I'm going to see how things go for me over the next week or so before I make any drastic decisions.

Joana |

Douena purposefully doesn't have Knowledge ranks so that she comes into every encounter unbiased. (Knowledge (religion) is a concession to her character class, but she doesn't have any animus toward the undead, just pity for them and a desire to lay them to rest.) The problem arises at higher levels, however, when the party is expected to attack things on sight that you just can't afford to let get the drop on you. Eventually she's going to meet something with a save-or-die that goes off in the first round. :P
DB3, are you paying attention to us, or have you forgotten about this thread again?
