Norveg is mostly done. 2 questions:
1. I bought a hook hand and iron holy symbol, but I'd love to have them smithed into one item, so I can either attack with the hook or brandish it as a holy symbol. Is that cool?
2. I picked the spell murderous crow before I tried to stat the crow. Geez, they screwed the pooch on that spell. It modifies crow stats - there are no crow stats. The terminology isn't even right in the spell text. They talk about eye rend ability if both claws hit, but birds have talons, not claws. Anyway, I used the rules in the spell on a base creature of hawk to build the murderous entropic crow. I can only summon it for 1 round at first level, so it was a bunch of danged work for 6 seconds! Anyhoo, I put the crow stats after Norveg so they'd be handy, if you want to check the build. Not guaranteeing total accuracy.

Treppa there are stats for a Raven if that helps?
No reason at all why I should know that...

Dot.
A couple ideas Pat, let me know if you have no preference or aversion to these, I'll probably just roll dice to pick as all are equally as interesting to me if you are neutral on them.
1. Elan Psion
2. Aasimar Swashbuckler
3. Minotaur Wizard (Transmuter)

Let the dice Gods decide.
1 to 33 % Option 1,
34 to 66 % Option 2,
67 to 99% Option 3,
100% Rogue.
1d100 ⇒ 90

I'm beefing up Norveg so he doesn't have to have a sneak attacking flanking buddy, but we still don't have a skill monkey or a healbot.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. We'll get by with whatever we have. Should be very interesting!
I’ll make a healbot. It’s easy enough to tag along

Hello Pat! Thanks for the invite!
Hello everyone! :)
Need I even say it? I'm In! :)
Now, what do we have so far? and what do we need?
Sounds like we need a skill monkey?
And we're doing a swashbuckly adventure?
(Everyone already is well-aware of my obsession with magic) ;P
LUV the Minotaur Wiz! :)
Maybe instead of Magus I'll go a rough-ish swashy type, with either dual class as cleric or sorc. depending on what we have so far with others.
Time to brain-storm!
(Sometimes I think I have more fun making these guys up than I do playing them!) ;P

I can use wands of cure, so that's helpful.

I have an idea for an NPC healer who is a native. I can use him to act as an exposition narrator as well.

I think I’m sticking with the corsair, then. As I’ve mentioned to Mark, Treppa, and Flash before - I rarely plan my characters out too many levels in advance. This time, though, the wheels are turning and I’m contemplating a multiclass dip into barbarian. I will have to see how he plays out as a fighter, and I will get a feel for how badly he wants to rage :) I’m going TWF, so he might need all the fighter feats he can get.

Meet your new friend 13 Spider, a cleric of Quetzalcoatl
Awesome. I'll be your One Eye.
I've been in campaigns where the rule was everyone bought a wand of cure for themselves and carried it in their belt pouch. After the battle, someone with UMD would use their wand on them. People could bargain for wand charges as they liked IC.
When healing hits you in the pocketbook, you pay more attention to saving your own skin. No universal health care in those games!

It's coming together!
Fun fact - I built Tragon thinking he can also serve as something of a party "face" if need be. When's the last time you met a half-orc fighter with a +8 Diplomacy at level 1? Although I suspect Rags's character might wind up with some social skills as well.

Do they give any type of credit to tank-types who soak up hits to defend others?
If I have to pay for my own healing, I’m not taking any hits for you ;)
Ragadolf |
LOL! If I did want to tank before, THAT would cure cure me of any altruistic motives! ;P
Huh, I'm not familiar with the corsair,... Must, remedy,...
SO what do we have so far?
Minotaur Wizard
RAtfolk Cleric
"13 Spider" Cleric (NPC)
Corvidea the raven (TBD?)
Is this right so far? Am I missing something/one?

Woo Hoo, Rags is in da House! This game is gonna be off the chain good!
I'm definitely going to be playing a fighty type, I'm still combing through possibilities though (I'm a hold the book guy, and reading it all on the computer isn't my ideal way to create a character; I'm at my Girlfriend's so don't have access to my books until I head home on the weekend, just my .pdfs).
Its definitely going to be some kind of Stealthy Fighter, I'm just not sure which way I'm going to head with it.
Tossing up between:
Magus (some may say I have already exhausted my allotment of playing a Magus, but to them I say Pish Posh)
Fighter
Swashbuckler
Slayer
(any of those combinations could also be paired with Rogue)

Oh boy oh boy oh boy! I think I may have found exactly what I'm after <3
EDIT: Yep, I love it! As long as Pat says it's OK, this is definitely what I'm gonna go with.

Will get Jakun de-powered later tonight.
This is the standard in Dragonlance for a build of this race Pat. There is also an option to take the Scent feat which I may at some point take but not at first level.
Should we spitball how and why an exotic race like his has decided to come to the land of man or leave that shrouded in mystery? :-)
Patrick Curtin |
Well, Opal attracts a lot of immigrants of all styles. I haven’t put much thought into Minotaurs as a race, but on the continent of Dragora there was an interesting history that might explain things:
Ages ago Dragons rules the continent, giving it its name. These dragons built a sophisticated civilization, but on the whole they were cruel and arrogant. They became versed in planar travel, and eventually brought several dozen sentient species to Arcaia to act as their servants/slaves. Eventually, for reasons lost to time this empire fell, and the dragons retreated into solitary existences.
The age of Concord came next, when the newly-freed species forged a civilization based on respect and mutual assistance. This age lasted until the giant races became upset with the dwarves and their penchant for claiming territory for their cities the giants felt was theirs. The Concord split into two warring factions during the Giant Wars. Eventually the continent of Dragora was laid waste and many of the cities were destroyed.
I would say the Minotaurs would have been on the Giant side of the battles. As such, they probably fled the continent after the Giant Wars cane to an end. One safe harbor was the continent of Fimbulia, where many of the giant-allied races ended up settling. Fimbulia is a sub-Arctic continent currently ruled by a patchwork of khans. I could see Minotaurs being valuable as troops or bodyguards in this scenario.
Your character might be a bit out of the mold, and maybe he has a bit of wanderlust. He might be in Opal looking to make money or perhaps study ancient sorcery

Yep. I *really* like the Shadowdancer, but I‘ve never successfully been able to pull off a build to my satisfaction. I was contemplating trying to utilise it in Corvidae’s build, but it looks like I may not have to.

THAT is so cool Flash! Nice find! :)
So far, in order to satisyfy my usual lust craving for magic, AND be useful as a skill monkey, the only thing I;ve thought of so far was either a straight Investigator, (maybe dual class as sorc/or wiz) or some multi class combo of (insert things I havent figured out yet) maybe Alchemist, Rogue, Wiz/Sorc. But some combo that wont make him worthless at mid/high lvls. >_<
Yeah,... I'm still looking,... ;P

Hey Pat, It seems like in Opal & area, there really isn't too much that's off-limits, far as races go.
Perusing your long and excellent history of Opal, are there any races that YOU'D like to see? Or think that they dont get enough attention usually? Except as set dressing?
Dragon born, Lizard folk(ish), etc etc,... ?
I'd like to take that into consideration as well with everything percolating in my brain. :)
(Makes me think of things I wouldn't have otherwise thought of. It's worked before with my best bud/GM and it never failed to work out great!)
:)

And really, can there, ever, REALLY be TOO much Magus, magi, Wizzies, Sorcerers,...etc etc??? REALLY?!?:D
Just sayin'! ;)

I built an investigator for another campaign. It has interesting possibilities. I’m not sure what types of archetypes are out there that would be a good fit for the campaign.
Or there’s the old arcane trickster standby!

Yeah,... I never understood Arcane trickster. In ANY of the games' versions. When I look at it, it just seems like a whole lotta nuthin'. (?)
Yet, I see others rave about about it in various threads, and such, so there must be something I am missing.
