GM Mort |

But again, since it's a wedding and there's drinking involved(I'm not saying no to free drinks ^^) , I might not be in any condition to post after everything =P

GM Mort |

I have some family stuff to do tomorrow(picking brother up from airport) , so I'll get things moving here on Monday morning.

Seamus Passeri |
What's Thanksgiving? =)
We don't have it here, heh.
It's a holiday for eating a lot, and being thankful you get to eat a lot.
I'm surprised they haven't instituted it in Singapore. As gastronomically diverse and eclectic as the city is; I would think they would love it :-)

Vincent Arazeiros |

GM Mort |

We're trying to cut down on public holidays and parties so as to improve productivity ;)
Nah, it's probably because we're not an agrarian society and Thanksgiving is associated with harvest.

GM Mort |

Interesting Thanksgiving background story. But yeah there's a lot uncomplimentary things to be said about humans. And religious fanatics.

Vincent Arazeiros |

Everyone is a fanatic, they just ascribe to different things.

GM Mort |

I would disagree with that statement. You really need to show some tolerance for things here and there or it just makes life hard on yourself.

Seamus Passeri |
Interesting conversation, which I don't want to get in the middle of because I'm not looking for a theological or political debate. But now that I reread my following sentence I may be asking for a philosophical one :-)
But interestingly, I don't know anyone who's not fanatical about something. Ie. religion, sports, cars, money, food, work, social status, politics, whatever. Everyone has something they are fanatical about.
If they say they don't, maybe their fanatical about being tolerant...

GM Mort |

Hmm... Vincent, I have an idea. Since you're complaining about the way I'm running Dakash, please bot him from now on using his current character sheet, using his level 5 BAB and save bonus. Note that he has used 4 arcane pool points out of his 6 thus far. He also has some dex damage, I'll leave you to figure out how much.
You may not add any feats, and may only use his current spell selection. You cannot add in new spells.
All attacks using spell combat are at a - 2,you're using the weapon one handed. You are required to make a DC 15 concentration check for a cantrip for defensive casting of cantrips should he do it in threatened squares. His concentration mod is +9.
If it's a level 1 spell, it's DC 17.
The format will be first attack, followed by concentration check, followed by second attack.
Alternatively you may do your concentration check first, then deliver the spell strike + standard attack. Take ye pick.
Happy botting^^

Vincent Arazeiros |

You know what? I'm really not in the mood for that kind of sarcasm or snark or whatever. I'm not going to bot him. If you don't want to and he's not returning get rid of the character...
And if I am upsetting you as much as it seems I am feel free to ask me to drop the game, otherwise let's play. Do what you want with Dakash, I was just trying to help since it seemed like you didn't know that touch of fatigue can target undead. And you said you like to play by RAW strict.
I will say I have been enjoying this game a lot, aside from the little acrobatics thing. So it's purely up to you if you want me to drop or you want me to stay, as long as I don't keep getting accused of random crap.

GM Mort |

K. I'll say I can use some help botting, to whoever who wants to do it, because editing for the concentration check is hard on me on phone and I need to track other things at the moment.
Otherwise I can bot him but whether I use spellcombat or not will depend on how much time I have on the particular post.

GM Mort |

My fellow Hydrahead, Tomorbataar has agreed to join us in Strange Aeons. He’s still busy creating his character – so it’ll take him a while before he actually pops.
For Dakash – now that I am not being strained by recruitment (I had to electronically stalk potential candidates), and explain the ruleset to them individually – I can run him fine.
This will be the plan:
- I can bot Dakash till the end of this dungeon, then I’ll park him with the Brairstone asylum refugees so to speak. If he chooses to return, I can run the game with 5 players and I will find a way to insert him into the adventure.
I have given Tomorbaatar two choices – he can join the party early if he is fast enough with character creation – you’ll find him somewhere in Fort Hailcourse, or alternatively he can wait until you go back to the Sleepless Agency in town, and catch up with all of you there. Either way – he’ll still lose 3 years of his memories for me to play around with.
Out of game – I will say he’s also one of the Count’s former helpers…

GM Mort |

Also Vincent - your mutagen + heroism is going to run out soon. Either after this or the next fight.
That's about 2 levels of dungeon cleared...

Gaurwaith |

The aforementioned Tomorbataar checking in. I'll be joining you quite soon, I've been reading through the existing thread and it looks like fun.
As I understand it, there are three characters.
An investigator/magus multiclass.
The most intelligent bard ever.
Soon, I'll be finished with a bladebound magus.
Looking forward to joining you.

GM Mort |

Investigator is using magus variant multiclass. He doesn't really have any magus levels per se.

GM Mort |

Rather humourous plot summary of the story so far:
Strange Aeons Prequel:
The party meets to prove themselves to a mysterious Count whom they all want to get something out off. They are told to prove themselves in which they are sent on various errands around the town, involving burglary, providing someone’s noon entertainment and delicate negotiations. Of course, a crazy brawl occurs as the day’s finale, but that’s life for you, and they’re accepted into the Count’s service.
In search of Sanity:
The party wakes up in a prison cell, gearless, with no idea how they got there, after being murderhoboed by something that shouldn’t exist somewhere else. Nasty doppelgansta is threatening to engrave more tattoos on them, along with an orderly. The party doesn’t like it, so when the opportunity comes, they do a jail break, rescue the orderly and the doppelgangsta runs for the hills.
They pull themselves out of their jail cell and find that the place they’re now in – Brairstone Asylum – has totally gone crazy. Or maybe not, since it’s an asylum. They mosey around the place, finding a group of fellow survivors trying to make a living in the asylum gone mad. There’s all that thick fog around the place with strange things lurking in it. Not wanting to go out and get eaten by a Grue, the party resolves to find a way to get rid of the fog so they can get out of the madhouse.
*After repeated doses of murderhobo later…*
The party finds out they were all sent to this Asylum by a man called Count Lowls Hasteron – who’s last location known is in Thrushmoor. And that the fog has something to do with a man named Zandalus. So they murderhobo their way to his den of crazy cultists and murderhobo him for good measure, getting rid of the fog. The problem is after they murder him, out pops out the thing that shouldn’t exist, and they run away screaming.
…Fastfoward to Thrushmoor
After dropping off their friendly neighbourhood Voonith and realizing that whatever infected the asylum seems to be following them like as if they were doomsday magnets, they decide to clean up the town, and at the same time, look for Count Lowls (who’s last known location is Iris Hill) – the person who dumped them in the asylum in the first place – to have words.
I will admit I am not the best GM for Strange Aeons, as I’ve said before, being too cheerful and good humoured. I probably need to cultivate my aura of mystery and threat. But I don’t think it’ll happen – mainly because at the pace I am pushing gameplay – players need to know what they’re doing, and mystery doesn’t help for quick decision making.

Leonard Giles Neithan |

Thanks for the summary, the repeated use of the word murderhobo is funnier than it should be. Maybe I'm just tired.
Leonard grew up in an orphanage in Lastwall. He was mostly socially isolated, except for a child named David. They prayed together. David eventually got recruited by paladins.
Leonard started practicing with weapons to become a paladin. Eventually, he stopped wanting to be a paladin, but kept trying to perfect himself. He still wants to help people, sortof like a paladin (strongly LN).
Iomedae stopped answering Leonard’s prayers. He joined the guard to pay for arcane training at the academy, and is becoming increasingly self-centred. (Closer to LN, but still LG).
Leonard finds a magical sword possessed by cultists, which names itself Angiliath and tells him to go wander the world. He listens. (Sudden ethical shift, now CG/CN)
Leonard becomes a professional murderhobo. Like, he literally is a homeless wanderer who kills things for money. He stops praying and becomes more cynical. (CN)
Eventually, Leonard kills a bandit, who reveals himself as David as he dies. It’s a mystery why he isn’t a paladin anymore.
An uncle named Adam Neithan introduces himself, and tells Leonard that he’s a noble child cast from his family on account of a prophecy from a respected seer. Leonard goes back to their estate, now the head of the house since his father has died. He grows to love his family (and also sleeping in a bed is nice). (N, closer to NG then NE, but still N)
Leonard and Adam begin to investigate Angiliath, a name which means “iron of the stars”. It’s a sentient sword found in the cellar of some cultists, just so we’re clear. Leonard’s memories are unclear past this point, except that the seer told him the prophecy had come true, and that he was covered in blood at the time.
I haven't finished my build yet, I still have all my money to spend, and to pick a few traits, and some background skills.
But I am officially out of midnight oil. Also it's like...8 AM...hehe.
Let me know if you need anything else background wise, otherwise I consider that section done enough.

GM Mort |

Eh I'm fine - I need to digest your background abit too. So do you want to do your own version of jail breaking? Otherwise you can meet the party back in town.
Or maybe you need some sleep? ;)
BTW Howard the quartermaster says you've got 7400 gp to spend instead.

Leonard Giles Neithan |

I think I'd rather meet the party back in town. Let me know if you think something in the background doesn't make sense or is convoluted or something, and also what you think of my "why he's doing some evil occult stuff" reasoning.
Also, another thing to do is build a spellbook.

GM Mort |

You mind being a newly wed for the purposes of occult business? (So the 3 years lost were that of those of you getting married)
Honestly I'm not for superlong backstories, what I prize more is activity and reliability of the player in question.
Also, please help open doors and decide where the party should go =P
Meeting in town is fine, I'll set up the post later.

GM Mort |

Happy thanksgiving everyone!
Leonard - feel free to respond to spoilered stuff. I'll push your part of the plot further later so that you can meet the party should they decide to pop out of the dungeon.

GM Mort |

Re:Claude
If a familiar is dismissed, lost, or dies, it can be replaced 1 week later through a specialized ritual that costs 200 gp per wizard level. The ritual takes 8 hours to complete.
If I were you - I'd pick up his body. Raise Companion is a thing. Otherwise Claude probably won't be available for the rest of this book.

Leonard Giles Neithan |

I think the newlywed thing is great, I don't mind at all.

GM Mort |

I think the rate you're going you'll probably get to the place to meet the party before they pop out, so you'll have to wait for them. I was thinking of adding in extra stuff but it was a little on short notice. Also I haven't really got your measure so to speak.
A magus with nothing to lose can really dish a lot of damage. Of course you can't
really sustain it, but somethings gotta give.

Leonard Giles Neithan |

Yeah, I do worry about running out of steam. I think I actually want to swap out the extra arcana feat for some extra arcane pool points.
I've also got favored class bonus, which I think I'm also going to put into arcane pool instead of HP. It's probably better for my defense, though it does tax my AoOs and swifts to be constantly using flamboyant arcana.
Also, I'm about to have gear. The major purchases are a +1 mithral chain shirt, +2 belt of dex, and +1 cloak of resistance. I'm pretty sure I want all of those things. That leaves me with like 500ish gold to spend on mundane gear and some scrolls.

Leonard Giles Neithan |

Are you okay with me taking the auspicious tattoo trait even though I'm not Shoanti? It's a tatoo that gives +1 to will saves, both of which are things that I quite like.
Otherwise I'm sure I will find a use for the trait.

GM Mort |

I will be watching a PFS game tonight – and the art of Zen Archery at low levels. I will be at my niece’s baby showers tomorrow, so expect activity to dip then. Again I think most Americans are happily celebrating Thanksgiving, so its no loss.

Leonard Giles Neithan |

I could, but uh...Leonard isn't really faithful anymore. I do get that auspicious tattoo has a requirement of Shoanti. Maybe there's some line advising the GM that they're allowed to be loose with that? I'm not sure, and I don't mind taking something else, there are plenty of solid traits out there.
Also...I just had a funny moment envisioning Leonard's actions.

GM Mort |

I don't really like reskinning of traits unless they are due to a problem I caused, I.e like trapfinder. Since there are no PC rogues in game.
Like if you want wisdom in flesh, go worship Irori. Inner peace =)
A question: Seamus - how would Usawoti feel about random non clan people picking up auspicious tattoos?
Sorry for delay in post - was at gym. Trying to get improved unarmed strike as a feat :P

Leonard Giles Neithan |

Fair enough.
Wanted to ask just to be certain what I can do with preconstructed spellbooks, specifically the ritual from the book of harms. Can I just slap that on my spellbook for 365gp? Do I have to buy all the spells in the book? Is there something I'm missing that keeps me from using it?
Also, I've decided a belt is too expensive.

GM Mort |

Seamus actually rolled up a Shoanti(Usawoti) in another game. If the true blue slim shady says yes, then by all means go ahead.
My character was kicked out of the Shoanti through no fault of his own so he's in no position to judge.
I also rather not tweak with items so just go buy the book normally as opposed to slapping it on your spellbook.
Tweaking items starts to open up cans of worms which I don't want to touch. You know what they say about lawful neutrals.

GM Mort |

Actually you can transcribe the preparation ritual into your spellbook.
Here are the rules for it:
Preparation rituals (Pathfinder RPG Ultimate Magic 121) grant a unique boon to anyone who prepares at least three spells from the associated spellbook. Like spells, preparation rituals can be copied into new spellbooks. To imbue a spellbook with a preparation ritual, you must have the Scribe Scroll feat, as well as a number of ranks in Spellcraft and a caster level each equal to double the highest spell level in the original spellbook. You also must have scribed at least three spells from the original spellbook into the new spellbook; at least one of these spells must be of the highest spell level found in the original spellbook. You must prepare those three spells (or know them, if you cast spells spontaneously) and perform an 8-hour creation ritual that requires supplies costing half as much as the value of the preparation ritual (the difference in the spellbook’s value with and without the preparation ritual). At the ritual’s end, attempt a Spellcraft check (DC = 10 + double the highest spell level in the original spellbook). If you succeed, the new spellbook gains that preparation ritual. If you fail, the supplies are wasted to no effect. Formula book preparation rituals are similarly imbued, but use extracts rather than spells, and instead of Scribe Scroll, you must have Brew Potion. A spellbook can have multiple preparation rituals, but it must meet the requirements for each. This does not affect the number of preparation rituals from which a character can benefit.
You do need scribe scroll feat though. And you do have to buy the original book. Afterwards pay the extra 365 gp and we'll say the task is done.
I didn't realize it was possible until I did some research.

Leonard Giles Neithan |

Awesome, thanks for the approval.
I'll go ahead and buy the spellbook anyway, and then just buy a second one with most of my actual spells and carry two around.
Edit: and it looks like that's cheaper than transcription, anyway.
I think a 1/day nova ability is worth the price, especially since as a magus it's my job to be able to kill anything with enough resource expenditure. Plus I like the flavorful 1d4 points of damage.
And also that's about it for tonight. I'm almost completely done with the character, just gotta do the spellbook and then summarize my activated abilities somewhere.

GM Mort |

You need to change one of your feats to be scribe scroll. Something for something...

Leonard Giles Neithan |

Just so we're all on the same page, I'm buying two spellbooks and preparing spells from both. As long as I prepare three from the one with the preparation ritual, I should still be able to use it. And I don't think I need to worry about transcription in that case.
Right?

GM Mort |

Yes you don't need to worry about transcription in that case. But everyday that you want to use the preparation ritual you need to prepare 3 spells from the book of harms.
Preparation ritual:
When a spellcaster who prepares spells uses a spellbook or formula book with a preparation ritual, as long as he prepares at least three spells (not including cantrips) or formulae from the spellbooks, he gains a temporary boon granted by the ritual. The boon lasts until its effect is spent (as specified by the boon description) or the spellcaster prepares spells again (at which time it can be reapplied by preparing at least three spells from the book).
But if you really wanted to transcribe I was just showing you how its done.

Vincent Arazeiros |

Hello new guy!
Holiday vacation and crappy signal so kind of quiet aside from posting actions.

GM Mort |

In melee combat, you can help a friend attack or defend by distracting or interfering with an opponent. If you’re in position to make a melee attack on an opponent that is engaging a friend in melee combat, you can attempt to aid your friend as a standard action. You make an attack roll against AC 10. If you succeed, your friend gains either a +2 bonus on his next attack roll against that opponent or a +2 bonus to AC against that opponent’s next attack (your choice), as long as that attack comes before the beginning of your next turn.
Reach required to aid AC or attack is the same. Tell me if you need another token for your familiar so he can be placed in a different square from you.

Leonard Giles Neithan |

Hello right back!
Leonard will pause just before opening the door he thinks the sounds of combat are coming from to use his wand of shield, and to drop his backpack, leaving just the gear listed under combat gear in his possession.

Leonard Giles Neithan |

I'm actually about to make a dramatic entrance, I think.
Or maybe I'm just being deceived by a willy GM. Only one way to find out.

GM Mort |

Yeah go ahead lol...its funny. But I'm still at my nieces baby shower so I'll update later.

Leonard Giles Neithan |

Okay, let's see if I can figure out what's going on...

Leonard Giles Neithan |

I'm not sure what the combat map here is. The most likely candidate seems to be slide six, but from the gameplay thread Seamus is healing Vincent, and they aren't adjacent on that slide.
I can tell you that Leonard will most likely use a point of magus arcana to enchant his weapon with keen and flaming (unless it looks like the skum is voulnerable to something else) and cast bladed dash.
