GM Mort |
My weekend activity is usually even better then my weekday unless I'm nephew sitting, or these days, getting distracted by path of exile.
Robert Henry |
I got 3 kids and the wife and I work a lot. :) I get to check games while working but not spend time with the family, so they tend to consume my free time on weekends lol
It sounds like a good use of free time to me! I post less if I get to spend time with my daughters, but they live an hours drive out of town...
GM Mort |
I am nephew sitting now. No kids, living with my family still, so I'm probably (as usual) youngest of you lot.
Go encourage your kids to pick up D&D for the next generation of gamers!
GM Mort |
You know whats the scary part? Next time showing up at someone's house for a D&D session and his 5 year old kid walks in, looks at the combat map, and starts facepalming saying, "Why are you letting the baddies flank you? You should have 5-ft stepped there"
Then you'll be like OMG, a 5-year old kid can outthink me...

I want the two headed wolf!
I lost my dice and didnt get new ones because I usually play online :(
GM Mort |
I'm worried that the recent storms may have knocked out King of Anything's internet, especially so since TL told us he's going to get screwed over by the hurricane.
GM Mort |
Will start on weds, 9am at +8 GMT, then. I will give all of you some time(24hish?)on mod start to start introducing yourselves to each other.
Robert Henry |
I think I've narrowed it down to a couple of ideas: If we need a ranged combatant with potential heal spells and communication skills, a bard with the Arrowsong Minstrel archetype. probably aasimar
If we need a melee/frontliner then some form of summoner.
I'm going with unarchetyped magus. Focus on the melee ranged combat.
So it looks like I should go with the summoner, since KOA is going archer, need to stop working on the arrowsong Minstrel and go with the summoner...
I'm thinking synthesist or blood god disciple
unless anyone thinks that a bard or second archer is necessary.
edit: So which of us will be able to swing a clw wand at low levels?
GM Mort |
I'd say let KOA state if he's going archer or not, since I'm parsing the statement focus on melee ranged combat differently, before you start thinking on switching characters.
Seamus Passeri |
Well, without the bard, we won't have anyone who can use CLW.
I've been looking at summoner and not finding anything I like.
If we need a melee character I think I will just make Seamus a skald and focus on melee, using oratory to get the versatile performance for diplomacy and sense motive.
I'll wait and see what KOA tells us, before we make it official...
Seamus Passeri |
I shouldn't stay up so late when composing posts. By "melee ranged" I meant "melee", not archery.
Thanks KOA, Mort thought that's what you meant, but I wanted to make sure before I started to work on Seamus' backstory. The Sad thing is after giving up on summoner I realized Seamus's backstory could be the same whether he was ranged or melee.
Anyway, sticking with the bow and playing Seamus as a lovable balladeer who's as dumb as a box of rocks...
looking forward to getting started!
Just a Mort |
I told you so, Robert!
*smug cat*
Sorry. I could not resist.
Don't mind us. Me likes tweaking Robert's nose.
On the other hand, it gave me the opportunity to explain the principles of summoners to him.

If any of you need help mechanics wise on character building - I. E you have the concept but have no idea how to make it take form, feel free to ask me for help.
Also Evandariel raised an interesting point - it doesn't make sense story line wise to have campaign traits before campaign start, so create your characters as per normal for prequel, you just don't get benefit of the campaign trait until you start Strange Aeons proper.
GM Mort |
Trapfinder for this purpose you may strip the campaign connotation on it and refluff it however you like - I may have caused a problem of magic trapfinding by saying arcane casters only, so it'd be unfair of me to not make the solution easy.
GM Mort |
Go ahead. But the one from the AP player guide only kicks in on AP start. And if you want to find your kin, I'll let you find her! But since this is Strange Aeons, expect the worst.
Howard Phillips Lovecraft |
Mort, remind me to tell you about a local player who played an Int 7, Wis 7 Paladin named 'Safeword', and another who had an Int 7, Wis 7, Cha 7 Barbarian, some time... ;-)
FYI, if 'Finding Haleen' (which is what I assume Evandariel is referring to) is a legal trait, I may need to work it into my build, as well :-P
GM Mort |
Noooooooo!*covers ears with paws*
Technically it is... I don't really want to restrict you to picking only Strange Aeons campaign traits etc.
I really do try to give players freedom. Of course if they are going to squabble on ethics of animating dead and trapping souls, I'll ban it for the sake of keeping peace.
Strange Aeons starts in 14h from this post so please get your characters ready.

Finishing up now :)
I was super excited about taking bonded investigator with an imp (at 7th level) with the figment archetype until I noticed it removed their SLAs. The idea of having an abberant, usually invisible 'figment of my imagination' whispering in my ear for this game was so cool!
Instead it looks like base imp will have to do.

Happy RPing introducing yourselves, while you wait for KOA to show up. I aim to update same time tomorrow morning, but it will depend on KOA popping into game.
I did it 1h early because my train is popping into a no wifi zone.
GM Mort |
Done. Feel free to dump yourself into Thrushmoor, Iris Hill guesthouse, describing how you got there and how you look and introduce yourself to the party.
Vincent Arazeiros |
Hey finished my character for the most part except for background. I will finish and paste that in in the morning. Already lost 2 hours of sleep lol.
And since no one posted yet I'll probably do that in about 6 hours also :)

The city of Karcau (pronounced KAHR-cow) is the only major population center in the land of Sinaria in Ustalav. It is renowned as a shining light of civilisation in a region of dark, dreary wilderness. The city is most famous for the Karcau Opera and has a reputation as a place that both produces musical genius and fosters it, it is this reputation that has lead to Karcau's nickname of the Village of Voices. Karcau is nestled on the banks of Lake Prophyria and its waters cut their way through the city, criss-crossing it in various canals. These canals mirror the situation below the city as Karcau was built atop an underground lake and its foundations are shot through with underwater tunnels creating a mostly submerged labyrinth.
Hey Mort, Seamus is from Karcau, it looks like Thrushmoor is 600 to 700 km, south of there, so he will finish he last leg of his journey by carriage. I trust that the expense of transportation can be hand waived, if not he will have less gear or just walk...
Vincent Arazeiros |
I hand waived my ship passage to Thrushmoor also so let me know if not, he will jog around the lake from Nirmathas :)

Directions guys? I want to know if you're going as a group, individuals or whatever, and which tasks you want to do first.
