I'm wasted, sorry for not replying much this week... Finally found the energy to catch up to things, though since there was so much I missed my post is kinda responding to several different things.
@Longirus: I believe you can't start with it off your base intelligence, but have to buy it through linguistics. I could be wrong and later joinees are allowed to get it off the bat. Most of the useful languages we know we've learned after coming here. Old Sylvan and Celstial still work though.

As linked to a bit back your lantern will stop giving off light while inside Xanya's magical darkness, but it's abilities will still function as normal. Xanya usually keeps up darkness on herself and Quassine all day to ward away the harsh effects of the sun.

Longirus, if you put a point in Linguistics as Xanya noted, you could have learned modern Common ( or at least enough to speak it passably, given that you have only been in this time two-three weeks ). You can retro a point in skills if you want this.
I have five ranks in linguistics.
As linked to a bit back your lantern will stop giving off light while inside Xanya's magical darkness, but it's abilities will still function as normal. Xanya usually keeps up darkness on herself and Quassine all day to ward away the harsh effects of the sun.
What's the radius? I physically need sunlight to live so you and I will be away from each other more often than not. Also, my lantern's light is a supernatural ability. Not sure if it'd be suppressed.

It's the knight-chandler that gives of light with it's soul candle ability, not the lantern itself. I believe it's a supernatural ability, sorry for not being clear. I did get an official answer though: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=20600718&postcount= 745
It'll be extinguished as answered here. The light doesn't actually count as sunlight though.
The radius of darkness is 20 feet.
And yeah the sunlight dependency with two of our members not being able to stand it is kinda a bummer and might create some awkward moments with very differing incentives (Xanya can survive in sunlight for a bit under 20 hours, but then she has to rest for 20 days or so).

            there is the penumbra cantrip.
a more creative out of combat solution would be (under the assuption that darkness radiates like light) to build some kind of bullseye-anti-lantern and mount it above Xanya(like on a sick or inside a parasol.

Unfortunately, there was an errata that moved Penumbra from a Cantrip to rare cantrip (aka you don't automatically receive it like the others) or a second level spell called Protective Penumbra. I found this out when I was going to memorize it.
So next level for me. There is a note at the top of Rare Cantrips,
These cantrips are not legal in official organized play. Note that the spell penumbra was changed into the higher-level spell protective penumbra. The cantrip version is similar, but does not replace its higher-level counterpart.

Well they both have 10 min/level but the real problem is cantrip compared to spell slot, and you know the difference between the two so I will not elaborate.

Xanya can cast darkness at will. It feels like a bit of a waste to learn a 2nd level spell as well as using spellslots on basically the same effect. Anyway Ghoran's just need sun daily, not every hour like Derro, so darkness should be possible to still use.

The Darkness at will is definitely better. The only thing better about Protective Penumbra is that it isn't as noticeable as Darkness.

This encounter feels odd. I get that we get open ends, but I'm much more interested in finding more about the scepters and the giants. Though I'm not sure what to do next down that path. We should find and seek out a greater scepter. Maybe the loremaster has some way of scrying for one?
@CT: Did we pay in advance for the belt? Or can we just not go and get it and use the money for our own crafting instead?

You would have paid half for the belt up front, and the rest paid upon delivery. Did you also order wakizashis for Kiki? I looked back and it was discussed but I guess never clear if that occurred or not. If it was assumed so, then those would be ready to pick up.
If you just ditched on the belt you would be out half the cost, and also in bad favor with Jopple's master.

if I remember correctly it was a belt of dexterity and Quassine crafted one too, so we have one for him and one for Kiki, I see no problem, unless I have forgotten something (again).

Then we are better off paying. The idea was to use the money for crafting instead since we didn't actually get any treasure to craft with this time.
I'm pretty sure we ordered wakizashis with the idea to use masterwork transformation on them. I guess we have to pay for all 3 as Kiki forgot to get two at the start (rather than get one for free)?

Goliath was a slave to Giants before coming to Goodwin. They are evil and cruel. Fire giants are evil. Loyal but evil. They can have a deal with the dwarf as long as it is in then favor. Goliath is going to try and hero this up and take her out save the man and destroy the scepter all in one go.

ah, I was going under the assumption it was sonic (concussive). Fire doesn't actually cause a lot of damage to structure in flashes like that in real life, but yeah that makes a big difference. Though Goliath would still try and get her to release the man before attacking to save him. Goliath has no intention to surrender to this thing or let it leave with the scepter so if someone else has a different plan now would be the time to step in and say something.

Optimally if I had planned it better, it would be a mix of fire, sonic and maybe magic/force, but I had just written fire on my notes because that is what makes sense if you are fire giant who will detonate the scepter, even if it does have a delay (things go wrong ;)).
You suspect that maybe the scepter isn't designed out structures, but just start a lot of fires and make a lot of smoke, and burn a lot of people, perhaps creating an environment that fire giants and hell hounds etc walk through with no harm.

I thought it was because we were going to use it on the giant and you changed it ... nah ... <joking>. It makes sense to me it would be fire only too. I mean after all that is what selective metamagic feat is for, drop an AOE spell around you without getting hurt.

So, are there any summons that are rideable? Summoning is standard (hero point) and mounting is free, so should still possible to charge. Can Xanya for example ride on a dire boar?

| CaveToad |

" It attacks your opponents to the best of its ability. If you can communicate with the creature, you can direct it not to attack, to attack particular enemies, or to perform other actions."
So in order for it to do anything special, you have to be able to communicate with it. I would rule that a horse/pony (MS I) would allow you to ride it and let you charge (a stretch since it doesn't necessarily say its a trained horse). Anything else won't work unless you have speak with animals or a way to communicate to it what you want to do. Unintelligent animals or monsters aren't trained with riders or charging so it would take some extra magic or the like to get that to work.

| Goliath, War Scion of Ragathiel |

Good questions. The Boar is big enough for you to ride. The issue is it's not combat trained. And the Ride skill says:
"Fight with a Combat-Trained Mount: If you direct your war-trained mount to attack in battle, you can still make your own attack or attacks normally. This usage is a free action."
So while you can normally command summon creatures to do your bidding I'm not sure if you can ride it as a mount. You may want to do a search and see what you can find.

I've read that it's usually a handle animal check a few places, but fair enough, horse or pony is better than nothing. What about a hell hound or blink dog for example, those can both understand languages.
