Next level you can afford it. You'll then have 3000 left over. I'm not sure if you can pray in advance so you only need to pray for 3 (or 2,5) hours next level.

CaveToad |

@CT: How does it work to spent FPP? Does it just happen instantly? Are there coming more rules for FPP, the choices now are rather limited? If there aren't going to come further customization in that area I think I'll just spend the points on +2 EP for Cryxial.
The FPP are a byproduct of spending the creation pool points so they could be part of that ritual, or say you had them banked, and spend them later, it would take I will say about 10 minutes to 'activate' them.
I don't have any specific ideas to expand the FPP currently, though I am welcome to considering ideas people may have. I have to try and keep things somewhat balanced, but I do want to offer options.

CaveToad |

ah didn't realize you were multi classing. Makes sense. Just making sure I wasn't doing feats wrong and that we get 2 on the levels when we normally get one :)
Xanya: You can't do Furious this level. I was going to do Fortuitous.
Base: Weapon is 2000 gp. Staying with the same bonus or improving the numeric bonus is normal cost so going to +2 is 6000 more making it 8000gp. What I'm doing. Adding a different bonus cost 50% more in the rules CT put up so adding Furious or Keen or what ever is 6000gp + 50% or 3000gp for 9000gp+2000=11000gp. 5th level wealth by level is 10,500gp so 500 short.
Edit: Yeah marching chant is the plan pretty much for now on while out here. It seems doing everything a bit faster is good when the attack is imminent.
The 50% tax is only for things that don't normally go on that item. For weapons, adding enchantmenats like flaming or keen or whatever are normal so, no tax, just the +X equivalent, (or in some cases just raw gold value).
If say you wanted to add +2 strength to a weapon then it costs 50% more since this is usually a belt slot bonus.

CaveToad |

Those are normal item creation rules. CT explained adding anything that was not a numeric bonus would be 50% more. We will need him to chime in here and make sure. I'm all for it I hope I have it wrong. I want to add Fortuitous to my sword. Sweeping Attack will be sweet with the the sweep damage then a free hit followed by another. Then vicious stomp and Greater improved trip. Soon It will be trip and 3 sword hits and a stomp :).
Yes you have it slightly wrong, and it could be I did not clarify well enough. In any event, if the enchantment belongs on the item slot/type, there is no tax.

Goliath, War Scion of Ragathiel |

Sweet it all makes sense now. Maybe down the line I will add Righteous to the sword. Then one day by holding his sword into the air and shouting "By the Power of Ragathiel"

Xanya Zellor |

Evolution points are much more flexible than other options, even if it's duplicated by a feat. Much more fun than say extra panache. I'll just go with that for now.
Now I'm unsure if I should pick energy attacks or flight for cryxial with the 2 extra evolution points... Flight would finally make him into a true dragon, but energy attacks is quite good as well...
@Goliath: I'm looking at picking up paired opportunist for Xanya/Cryxial (shared through the saddle), will you be picking that up at some point as well (maybe after greater trip)?

Goliath, War Scion of Ragathiel |

maybe??? As things go now we can spread out. I may shy away from teamwork feats as we can go on opposite ends of the battlefield and handle tough challenges. I just don't see the benefit of it as CT will not be giving us just one super bad guy to focus on most of the time I don't think. It makes sense with you as you can do them with your mount, but we will see. Greater trip is still a few levels away.

Xanya Zellor |

I imagine that fights will be varied, some with one huge enemy (like the troll), others with enemies with varying powelevel (like the giant fights so far) and yet others with several of the same kind of enemy (like the mimics). You are probably correct
@Kiki, CT: I think you can get menacing armor spikes +1 for 8000 gold, right? If so it's not worth putting menacing on your main weapon as you won't be able to change your weapon abilities down the line. Though it's a long time until that matters I guess so you could go for menacing and just not worry about it being slightly inefficient in 10 levels or so.
I might pick up menacing myself as Cryxial is having some problems hitting. A Furious Amulet of Might Fists would help him out quite a bit.

Kiki Bitterdew wrote:What were the rules for duplicating the effects of specific magic weapons? Can you elaborate what you mean exactly? are you talking like Dagger of Venom or Sunblade type weapons?
Enchanting my personal magic item to have the effect of a specific magic item, like enchanting a ring to funktion as a ring of protection or in my case my wakazashi to funktion as a bloodletting kukri ( I would have a +1 wakazashi that deals bleed damage on hits and all the other stuff that a bloodletting kukri does on hit).

CaveToad |

Kiki, let me ponder that. I may consider several options, obviously of varying degree of friendliness to the players:
1. Not allow it since these custom weapons are designed for a specific weapon, and may incur balance issues by allowing it on other weapons. Not sure I totally buy this, but it could have ramifications for some of the more potent items.
2. Allow it but at a 50% tax increase in case the weapon is not the same as the item. (Not sure if I like this either, I swear somewhere once I saw in the rules, or maybe it was a forum discussion someone wanting to create something like a spear of venom vs a dagger etc.) Again it can be a balance issue. A dagger of venom is an easily duplicated effect within the rules. Something like a sunblade is a bit trickier since it is custom.
3. Allow the weapon type swap as normal without tax or restriction. Inclined to go with this, but I need to caveat it with DM review, in case there is some potential loophole that can be exploited. Probably would be ok most of the time, but I might need to keep an eye on things.
insert time for pondering here....
In terms of the kukri vs wakizashi for Kiki, I think it probably would be fine. I think they have the same crit range, maybe kukri is even better, I forget without looking.

wakazashis are a bit better, higher damage dice, but exotic

Goliath, War Scion of Ragathiel |

I leave for vacation today. Won't be posting till the 21st I will post Goliath's level 5 sheet here so he can be DMPC'd and will update when I get back.
My only need is to retrain and swap the 2 feats around. Again not learning anything new just rearranging so my weapon qualifies for Greater weapon focus next level. Thanks.

I am done updating my individual sheet.
CT, Is there enough time to continue working on the other non-signature magic items.
Also did we get the magic ingredients from turning in the scepter because looking at what we had available, we didn't have enough coin?

Xanya Zellor |

You spent 4 hours praying. Some of us spent 8 hours. Hence you have 4 hours left. Did you sleep?

Quassine Alator |

No, I will use by (2) hours for sleep.

Xanya Zellor |

Yes, we are ready for level 5.

I believe you spent some money from gems or something on raw ingredients for magic creation. Time wise, how much you spend is up to the group, as long as you all map out the hours spent. You would spend 4 hours resting and reflecting for level up. Any additional can be for crafting, sleeping, recovering expendables/daily use/spells and so forth. Keep in mind some considerable time was spent collecting bodies, burning, etc. Well, probably no more than 1 hour though for that to deal with post battle clean up and interrogation of the harpy and what not.

How is everyone's characters coming?

Quassine Alator |

I am good to go character wise just cleaning up coin transactions, ok I think this is how it went:
We paid 4,000 gold for bracers of dexterity +2, and 5000 gps enchanting materials was donated to us because of the equipment turn in and we let them have the scepter to study because we did not have the money 9,000 worth of suff.

Xanya Zellor |

Did you check the spreadsheet Quassine? The crafting materials should be listed there. So far you've used 2500 (well will have after finishing the headband). We had something like 9000 cash before heading out, more than enough for what we wanted to do. I'll get updated numbers this evening.

Quassine Alator |

No, most of the time, I don't have access to spreadsheets. I can try on my cell phone. Is that 9,000 remaining after we purchase that other dex item?

Xanya Zellor |

SUM 11468.55
3 tiny wakazakis 52.5
Small Compisite Longbow +7 800
40 small arrows 2
Pearl of Power I 1000
Beer 10
scribe invisbility, Ablative Sphere 80
Ink 8
2 tiny longbow strings 7.5
Craft Quick Runner's Shirt 500
Craft Headband of Charisma 2000
Craft Belt of Dexterity 2000
Buy Belt of Dexterity 4000
Remaining 1008.55
Here is the relevant part of the calculations. Though we haven't used the pearl of power at all. If no one wants to use it... Getting it is kinda a waste. In short we set aside 4500 for crafting and have about 1000 left over.
@CT: Does that time resting and reflecting come on top of the praying? Or can we rest and reflect while praying?

Quassine Alator |

Thank you!
I thought we chose not to purchase or take the Pearl of Power because no one found any real value in it?
By any chanced, did you add our new stuff we captured?
@CT - Can I craft 500 gps worth to finish up the headband in (2) hours ... lol? If not how much of that can I finish? 250?

Xanya Zellor |

I haven't added the new stuff yet, hopefully I'll find time to do so today. It wasn't much at all though...
@Quassine: How much progress have you made so far on the headband?
@Kiki: How are you coming along with your sheet?

Quassine Alator |

Ok Cool! Nope, but every bit counts.
Due to the movement on this group, I am idled at 75% completed so either it will be completed after this rest or next.

CaveToad |

Thank you!

I thought the crafting had to be in at least 4 hours blocks.

CaveToad |

@CT: Does that time resting and reflecting come on top of the praying? Or can we rest and reflect while praying?
praying over your items is a mutually exclusive event. They need to happen independently. You can do other minor tasks like cooking, eating, milling about while resting and reflecting though. No chopping down trees or major crafting though.

Here is the relevant part of the rules, up to you to interpret it. In order to get full effect you need 4 continuous hours:
The caster can work for up to 8 hours each day. He cannot rush the process by working longer each day, but the days need not be consecutive, and the caster can use the rest of his time as he sees fit. If the caster is out adventuring, he can devote 4 hours each day to item creation, although he nets only 2 hours' worth of work. This time is not spent in one continuous period, but rather during lunch, morning preparation, and during watches at night. If time is dedicated to creation, it must be spent in uninterrupted 4-hour blocks. This work is generally done in a controlled environment, where distractions are at a minimum, such as a laboratory or shrine. Work that is performed in a distracting or dangerous environment nets only half the amount of progress (just as with the adventuring caster).

Quassine Alator |

Ok, tomorrow night in game, Quassine will get back to it since there is only 2 hours after Quassine sleeps.

Xanya Zellor |

We haven't really discussed it, but Xanya wants to move at full speed after our companions, using Nature's Path + Chant + forced march... Though the huge holdup from all the praying and resting might make it impossible to catch them...
I definitely want to pick up the spell planetarium at some point. It won't actually do something though... I think I'm picking up lesser evolution surge this level. It'll let me skimp on flight for a while and instead get energy attacks for Cryxial (I can use it to gain flight in a pinch, or +8 to a skill, or a number of other things).
@Simon: How goes leveling? You can probably try to use glitterdust to detect your little follower...
Xanya is planning to learn Sylvan this level, hopefully Simon and Kiki can help out. I thought there was another language I wanted to learn, but I can't remember it right now...

Quassine Alator |

I am agree with Xanya, force march to our companions since there is a second Giant patrol after them.

Xanya Zellor |

Terran was the other language. I'm still very unsure about maneuvers. I kinda want to pick two scarlet throne maneuvers just so I'm ready to pick Sanguine Perception once that becomes available... Anyway here are the results of the levelup. I moved it into her sheet.

The disadvantage of running concurrent tables in different timelines with global effects where it's not only possible that we might interact, but are actually incentivized to do so...
I thought we were further along than 16-17 though?
Has anyone heard from Kiki? I'm getting worried.

Xanya Zellor |

I would have much rather prefer that we were in parallel universes. Though that's a bit late to change now :(. Minor Dream is only the first step. This will get much worse once we aquire sending and teleport. As things are now, either we screw up space and time or we do things that are directly against what our characters want. Another alternative could be to disallow global effects, but that hole has already been opened... Forcing perfect synchronization could similarly lead to a lot of waiting...

CaveToad |

Not that it really matters, but I have decided that harpies have separate arm and wing limbs ( which makes them 6 limbs creatures in a sense ). At least these specific harpies that use bows. Would be hard to use a bow aerially while flapping your arms if they were the same as your wings.
Pics in the net seem to be about 50/50.

Quassine Alator |

Makes more sense to me.

Kiki Bitterdew |

Shooting bows with taloned feet sounds awfully impractical

Quassine Alator |

Isn't there a race or something that has a footbow? I thought one of those other flying races?
There is but I forgot what race? The Avariel (Flying Elves)?

Xanya Zellor |

Things will work out fine.
Sorry for worrying
Shooting bows with taloned feet sounds awfully impractical
Glad to see you back. How is leveling along to level 5 coming along?

Kiki Bitterdew |

@Xanya :I probably will upload it today
