Overlain has reminded me: I need to tweak Malaswyn’s back story now that Paizo have ret-conned away Taldor’s ban on Sarenrae worship.
Maybe Nidal instead, or Rahadoum?

I'm curious: Why can't you stay with Sarenrae? I mean, what does "ret-conned away Taldor's ban on Sarenrae worship" have anything to do with it? Because personally, I think she's pretty fitting for Mal. Just my opinion though.
And just to be clear, that Taldor ban issue is absolute Greek to me so that's why I ask.
Malaswyn Tyddewi |
Mal is definitely still a Sarenrae worshipper.
His back-story includes a period as a lay preacher in Taldor, a country where worship of Sarenrae was banned.
The ban was stupid and has been ret-conned out of the lore for Taldor.
So, now I need a new country where Sarenrae worship might be frowned upon:
Nidal has a state-sanctioned worship of Zon-Kuthon.
Rahadoum outlaws religious devotion.
Razmiran has a state religion devoted to Razmir.
Rahadoum works best because Nidal is such a harrowing place to live (which does not fit the experience) and Razmiran is just full of awkward elements which I would rather avoid.
Rahadoum fits.

Ohhhhhh okay. You actually need a new city. Gotcha. I was thinking you had to choose a new deity which I was thinking, "But Sarenrae is so perfect for him".
Well cool. And that totally does not make sense at all. Why in the heck would they ban Sarenrae out of Taldor in the first place? That's like one of the last places I would expect her to be banned.
Ustalav? Would not surprise me in the least. Taldor? Yeah I totally don't get that one. Just weird.

It was meant to reflect a clash of cultures: sarenrae being popular in Qadira.
But the idea of ‘Western civilisation’ (which Taldor represents in some ways) banning the god of ‘not-arabia’ feels a bit off.
And in game terms it makes no sense, the Gods aren’t even tied to specific planets, let alone nations.

Davor Mason was a Half-orc meat shield(well, without the shield) played by Overfiend_87 who I believe is long gone from the boards by now.
He is one of the MANY folks who have been in this game in the past. Click on the "players" tab and look at the crew at the bottom of the page.
A slew of folks. DW took this game over when Scipion had to call it quits.

Okay, here's what Kriger has that might help.
Pass without trace
Chameleon Stride, Grtr
Blessing of the mole
Unfortunately, those don't help the non-stealthy folks.
Outside of that, this is a head scratcher, folks.
Unless Oberlin has mass invisibility(which I think is a far higher level spell) not sure how we're gonna get this one done.

The only problem with Invis sphere and the carpet would be the captives. What would keep them from crying out in fear(or responding in an "attention getting way" of any form really) when an invisible "something" started talking to them?
It's a cool idea but it would require complete trust from folks we don't know. So it would be quite the tricky to pull off to say the least, I believe.

I was more thinking of getting us all to the waterfall, as Oberlin and I cannot currently teleport / word of recall the entire party (not until level 12, when you can take 4 people with you).

Ohhhhhhh, okay. My bad. I totally misunderstood that one.
Yeah that would work for sure.
As per taking down Armag, while I think eliminating him would be awesome, I think that's a tall task. How do we know where he's at exactly? Is he guarded? Are there alarms? Because if an alarm goes off at all, then we're surrounded by an army of everything. :P
And I'd be willing to bet he's NOT gonna be that easy to eliminate. With him being the leader of this band then I think it's a safe bet he will be somewhat tough. :P

And do we actually need to defeat him to defeat him? If he took the captives, getting them back somehow might be enough to keep him from completing whatever ritual or whatnot he is doing.
@OM - thank you! I will take you up on that.

From a metagaming perspective, I think the hostages are more of a complication than the actual mission. I think stopping Armag from getting the artifact is the actual mission. I don't know that they need the hostages for a ritual (though they might). Originally, the hostages were just to keep the forces at Fort Drelev compliant.

I agree with this. And as much as I hate to say it, if you take the metagame thing to its extreme then stopping Armag from getting an evil(?) artifact is paramount - even if the hostages are lost in the process. The damage he can do with that and a rampaging tribe (plus monsters) far outweighs their loss. And remember, he's right on our doorstep.
What I'm hoping is that we can bring out Armag's head and do the 'raise his head and claim victory' thing and disperse the tribe. Maybe even claim the tribe? Kriger the Barbarian!

If I may add: the waterfall looks to you like the entrance of an underground complex within the hill. It is possible that venturing there takes a while. Now, you also know that Armag has a head start.
Finally, there was little movement beside a single individual moving up the waterfall, so perhaps there is also little communication between those the camp and the waterfall.
