Pádraig Henry shouts out a warning, "They're _______! And their special defenses are _________!"
GM Red |
Pádraig Henry sees the wretched creatures, and recalls them from a children's picture book authored by someone with a cruel sense of humor. He recognizes them as chokers, and knows that they lack any appreciable special defenses.
Geoffrey is up!

Geoffrey grunts in reply, "Chokers eh? Okay let's see how they stand against my blade..." as he moves to attack!

Retcon: I'd like to retcon the Choker climbing across the ceiling. Though they have a climb speed, this does not make them able to climb just anything, and a slick, smooth sewer ceiling is easily a DC 30 check. I therefore will give Pádraig Henry back his reroll, and have moved the choker back to his original position.
The red-eyed choker steps forward, its broody gaze set on Pádraig Henry. It mumbles something in another language...

Jay trots further ahead, peering into the fork from which you came. "Nothin' there. All clear. Looks like that was a close call, huh? Come on, let's hurry back to the Nest. Korva will get you cleaned up."

Your favorite faerie dragon, Vendalfek, flutters in, plugging his nose. "Nasty. Hey, do you think they had treasure on them?!" He eyes the choker corpses with a coy grin.

Turning his attention to the new arrivals he gives a nod of thanks, "Glad you guys heard our call. I shudder to think what would have happened had they discovered the Wasp. Now let's get out of here. I have to wash off this grease, as I don't think it goes away on its own."

"I am fine," Morvena sighs as the tension visibly leaves her frame, shoulders slumping a bit. "Physically, at any rate. Padraig learns a thing or two at the Tooth and Nail. A half-elven warrior tells his companion, "I'm certain I saw two noblewomen sewer diving the other night. Has Barzillai caused so much unrest that even the nobles have taken to the sewers for safety?"
Padraig earns 1d6 ⇒ 3 gold and 3d10 ⇒ (3, 6, 5) = 14 silver pieces for his private tutoring lessons. One half-elf, a short, well-dressed woman with neatly tied hair by the name of Marta takes a particular liking to the halfling, and offers him an additional five gold pieces after finally mastering her soprano voice.
Issil buys some fancy outfits and restocks her supply of holy water. She then earns 1d10 ⇒ 3 silver for her modest dancing lesson, but she isn't able to glean any information from the students.
You can do all your shopping in one day, Issil.
Morvena hears something about the attacks on the unfortunate victims at the Devil's Nursery. A tiefling merchant explains. "I saw it, I did. A woman... Some kind of human witch with a face tattoo, she started all of this, releasing the tooth fairies into Kintargo as if opening a jar full of demonic butterflies!"
At one of the attack sites, she hears something entirely conflicting from another tiefling, this one decrepit and begging for copper. "It was an Asmodean priest that performed the rites on that body! Saw him with my own eyes. Murdered a child and summoned those ... things. Used dark magic."
Chuko takes Geoffrey up on the offer of training, and Geoffrey earns 2d10 ⇒ (6, 8) = 14 copper for his efforts. Chuko isn't completely impressed, and says Geoffrey might fare better by purchasing his +1 frost lucerne hammer, the "best weapon this side of the Yolubilis!"

He hears a different sort of rumor from an elven fisherman.
"I hear Crisalli, I think? Yeah, I hear her husband caught her, um, embracing a much younger man in the backroom of her bookstore. That lady's as old as the hills, but hey, whatever hooks your fish, right?"
And that should round out our week. Lots going on here, so let me know if I'd forgotten anything. I'll pause here to head to Discussion and determine your next steps.
Pádraig Henry |
When Pádraig Henry returns to the Nest with a pocket full of shiny coins and fond memories of the lovely Marta, he shares what he learned at the Tooth and Nail.
"A half-elven warrior was telling his companion, 'I'm certain I saw two noblewomen sewer diving the other night. Has Barzillai caused so much unrest that even the nobles have taken to the sewers for safety?'"
"Do you think he saw Issil and Morvena, or do you think they could have been some other noblewomen? Probably the latter, but we might not be the only ones daring the sewers to avoid the curfew. Better keep our eyes open."
He grabs some buttered cornbread and looks around his companions gathered at the dinner table, "You guys hear anything interesting?"
Morvena Sarini |
"At this point I am not sure if seeing Barzillai Thrune himself down in those sewers would surprise me," Morvena remarks wearily as she slumps into her seat, clearly tired from her day of poking around in the Redroof District. "Caution is always a wise idea, however."
"More conflicting rumors about who is responsible for the murders in the Devil's Nest," she sighs. "The only two leads I have been able to pick up completely contradict each other. One rumor states that the culprit is a human witch bearing a ghastly face tattoo and the other that the one responsible is a man, an Asmodean priest."
"Personally, I believe that the latter rumor is more likely to have some grain of truth to it, but currently have no evidence for that beyond my own intuition," Morvena finishes, reaching for a piece of the cornbread and devouring it hungrily. "Did any of the rest of you fare any better for news?"
Pádraig Henry |
Pádraig Henry shakes his head. "Sorry, I misspoke earlier. I meant to say that I think the warrior might have seen Morvena and Issil, but we can't be sure. Best you two avoid the Tooth and Nail for a while. We need to be careful people don't start getting familiar with our faces and associating them with suspicious behavior."
"A human witch with a ghastly face tattoo should be easy to spot." The bard licks his fingers and wipes them on a cloth napkin. "Asmodean priests, however, are probably an increasing demographic in this town."
Issil Tanessen |
"Aww, people still consider me nobility? That's cute!" Issil arrives with a new outfit; a collection of red ribbons and pink threads hang from the shoulders and mostly cover a leather corset and a long black skirt.
"The students at the school are doing well. It's... nice to see them improve. If I can get them a good head start they can stay out of the gutter. Personally I'm hoping they will become a personal rumor mill, but not this week. I'll have to try better next time."
Roger Schmitt |
Victor comes in later, rubbing some clean water on some small bite marks on his ankles "Eh, not great. Other than a few coins all I could come up with is from this fisherman fella..
"I hear Crisalli, I think? Yeah, I hear her husband caught her, um, embracing a much younger man in the backroom of her bookstore. That lady's as old as the hills, but hey, whatever hooks your fish, right?"
But again, that could just have been one of us.. or Rexus maybe? You aren't trying to hook that fish are you?"
