GM Chyro |
It doesn't drop it. In fact, this creature can even grapple with hands full.
Ting Tang's chakram hits the magaav, but it seems to harm it little.
Joseph
Brallenera & Las Lajas
GM Chyro |
Not with that weapon. :)
Though a gibbering mouther another party fought some time ago, did cause the cavalier to smack himself with his greatsword. :D
GM Chyro |
Botting.
Joseph keeps his inspire up, and draws his wand of healing.
Assuming it still has charges left.
He keeps it ready to use if Brallenera would come close.
Brallenera (bleeds 2 at the start of her turn) & Las Lajas
Las Lajas |
Las returns to the doorway with the holy symbol and calls out to Ting and Brallenera.
"Withdraw, and let's regroup!"
GM Chyro |
Botting.
With doorway i assume the one at the bridge.
Brallenera bleeds for 2, and takes withdraw action to Joseph, who had a tap ready.
Clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
--------------------------
Host devil, round 3
The host devil grins, and flies upwards, before descending to 10 feet above the doorway. From there, it makes a strike at Ting Tang.
Swish, high ground: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 12 + 2 = 322d4 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 = 14
Tearing a mean wound on him.
-------------------------
Ting Tang
Joseph
Brallenera & Las Lajas
Ting Tang |
"Squawk" Seeing his fellow pathfinders retreat, just as the flying creature attacks him, Ting decides to follow their example and he retreats to the other side of the hidden door. Stopping near the entrance to attack the demon if it comes through he asks: "So's what do we's bloody well do's now?
full round action: withdraw
GM Chyro |
Ting Tang leaves the 1st threatened square safely.
But as he is about to leave the second, the devil strikes at him.
"Ah, you're no going anywhere, birdbrain."
Trip, high ground: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 11 + 2 = 29
The devil sticks the end of its guisarme between Ting Tang's legs, who drops prone.
"Hehehe..hahaha"
Joseph
Brallenera & Las Lajas (you guys post ahead)
Las Lajas |
The reach is 15 feet?
GM Chyro |
There's a table on the map.
It's got normal reach, but still enough to attack him.
Las Lajas |
What is the red line?
Las Lajas |
Can I reach the devil with my whip from where I am at?
Las Lajas |
Speeding things up.
Las takes a 5' step back, drops the holy symbol and pulls one of the retrieved smokesticks from his haversack and throws it into Ting's square.
Throw stick: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Las Lajas |
Did Ting start his withdraw at the doorway or 5' past the doorway?
Las Lajas |
Okay, let's see what happens next. We need to break away from combat so we can heal people up. I don't think Joseph and I can keep up with the damage using CLW wands.
Ting Tang |
retrieved smokesticks ... throws it into Ting's square...Throw stick 14
Las how can ting use this to his advantage? I hate to state the obvious but If ting gets up to make a run for it he will give the demon two opportunities to attack him at + 14, with just 19HP it could be touch and go. What will keep the creature from following through the door? Or are you thinking that getting it on the ground is the only way we can beat it?
GM Chyro |
Of note, after a check. High ground gives +1, instead of +2.
Still enough for the devil to hit on all accounts.
Botting.
Joseph uses another round of inspire, and taps Brallenera once more.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Las Lajas takes out a nice stick and throws it towards Ting Tang.
Brallenera
Las Lajas |
Could you outline where the smoke is? Thanks.
GM Chyro |
When/if Ting Tang successfully lights it.
Smokesticks must be lit.
Las Lajas |
Hunh? In the 4+ years of playing PFS, I've never seen a GM require an action to light a smokestick when using it.. PFS also introduced smokestick arrows, and they don't even mention that they have to be lit to take effect. However, if that's your ruling, then Las will use a smoke pellet instead.
GM Chyro |
The cube of mist is marked on the map.
Las Lajas, seeing Ting Tang's perilous situation, quickly rummages in his bag. He takes out an odd looking stick, and scrapes it on the floor, igniting the tip.
He drops it, and a smoke flows from it, engulfing him and Ting Tang in a hazy smoke.
Brallenera steps forward, and readies an attack in case the creature comes onto view.
-------------------------
"What trickery is thissss? Hmpf, i will find you yet, none shall pass this bridge!"
Host devil, round 4
The devil descends 5 feet, and Brallenera sees the partial shape, and swings her axe at it.
Raging axe, Axe to Grind: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 9 + 1 = 221d10 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
21+ good: 1d100 ⇒ 93
Her aim was good, but the surprised devil was only just fast enough to dodge.
The devil sees Ting Tang.
"Aha!"
Claw, high ground, vs prone: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 11 + 1 + 4 = 26Dmg: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
21+ good: 1d100 ⇒ 32
Claw, high ground, vs prone: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 11 + 1 + 4 = 17Dmg: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
21+ good: 1d100 ⇒ 61
The first claw hits Ting Tang's flank, but the second claw aim was too poor to hit even a bug.
Ting Tang bleeds 2 at the start of his turn.

Brallenera & Las Lajas
Las Lajas |
So has the devil gripped the weapon with two hands to wield it, or leaving a hand off to use its claws?
GM Chyro |
Going by the picture, it looks like it can use the claws on its hands and feet, it can use those for grappling while holding its weapon with 2 hands.
I could be wrong, and it has to let 1 hand go from its weapon, but that is merely how it appears to me. Birds use talons too, after all.
Las Lajas |
As it so happens, here is a FAQ on the subject: http://paizo.com/paizo/faq/v5748nruor1fo#v5748eaic9rdk
GM Chyro |
Ok, thanks for the ref. In that case he'd have to let one hand go to make his attacks.
GM Chyro |
Ting Tang, a stealth check in direct melee combat won't work as intended, as the devil is aware of you, being in close combat with you.
GM Chyro |
Pass that comment.
[Stuff on own playing and reading up :)], i'll roll for perception, and hope for the best.
Does the devil notice Ting Tang?: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
"Trying to run, eh?"
AoO vs standing up, vs prone: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 11 + 1 + 4 = 331d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
21+ is hit: 1d100 ⇒ 20
Ting Tang narrowly dodges the claw going past his head.
When he goes to move inside, another attack comes his way.
Yes...this nasty thing has combat reflexes.
Claw: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 11 + 1 = 221d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
21+ is hit: 1d100 ⇒ 25
The claw is just enough to make Ting Tang pass out.
Joseph
Brallenera & Las Lajas
GM Chyro |
You bleed 2, negating the 1 from normal unstable.
On the other question, yes she could try a maneuver, but will take an aoo if she doesn't have the 'improved [insert]', and she's got to drop her held items for it.
Looking at her sheet, she doesn't.
GM Chyro |
I do see a possibility, however, to get Ting Tang to safety. But it will involve Brallenera taking 1 aoo.
Hint: look carefully in Brallenera's inventory, what could be something to improvise with.
Las Lajas |
You botted Brallenera to charge the devil when she had no way to fly, no good aligned weapons, it was in total defense, and she had no reach weapon, and no support around her, and was apparently not fully healed. Might as well keep botting her now.
GM Chyro |
Her charging head on is what she's been doing from level 1.
Even against better knowing...
But the healing is in your hands.
Brallenera looks boldly at the devil, at its shape anyway.
She rummages in her pack, and takes out a blanket.
AoO: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 11 + 1 = 171d100 ⇒ 67
Miss
She makes a swing with it.
AoO: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 11 + 1 = 171d100 ⇒ 79
Ranged touch, improvised, lights out: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 5 - 4 = 211d100 ⇒ 33
The thick blanket covers the devil.
It is now considered blinded, essentially, with all its effects.
With a sizeable thick blanket, it will also have to spend a full round to take it off.
Las Lajas |
Nice! Will post when I'm not on my phone.
Las Lajas |
Las moves forward, reaches out and drags Ting as far as he can.
GM Chyro |
Moved your tokens.
Joseph
Brallenera will do a cover up.
Las Lajas evacuates Ting Tang.
Las Lajas |
Las calls out to Joesph, "Can you stabilize Ting? He's bleeding out. "
Lord Joseph Wraitheart |
Las calls out to Joesph, "Can you stabilize Ting? He's bleeding out. "
Joseph heads over and uses his hand in an attempt to stabilise their birdfriend.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3GM Chyro |
After Brallenera successfully blinds the devil by throwing her blanket over it, Las Lajas drags away the KO'ed body of Ting Tang, after which Joseph heals him to disabled state.
-------------------------------------
Host devil, round 5
The host devil stumbles, letting out an angry screech, as it wrestles the thick blanket from its head and wings.
--------------------
Joseph
Brallenera & Las Lajas Go ahead with an in advance post.
Las Lajas |
Las locates Ting's wand of CLW and proceed to heal him.
UMD: 1d20 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (20) + 10 + (3) = 33
Heal Ting: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Las then takes a step.
"Joseph, you work on Brallenera and I'll work on Ting"
Las Lajas |
Does Ting get an action this round? If so...
"Ting get on you feet. Brallenera don't let that thing hit you Go Total Defense. I've got a plan.
GM Chyro |
Ah, i did mean to mention his turn. My bad, of course he can act again.
GM Chyro |
Brallenera nods.
On her turn, she steps 5 feet back, drops rage, and goes total defense.
AC 24
Ting Tang |
ting was still unconscious before the 7 points so I assume he is at 6
Sqwak so's is we's 'eadin' out tha way's we's come in?' Ting stands up and quickly moves out the doors they came in. As he runs out he asks, "Is we's fortin' up 'ear's er is we's 'eadin' out tha door?"
move action: stand up, Move action: 30 ft retreat
GM Chyro |
[ooc]No, actually Joseph healed you back to disabled, after which Las Lajas healed you for 7.p/ooc]
Lord Joseph Wraitheart |
Wish I had added SoundStriker to this character. Then atleast I could do some damage with my performance...errataed so it'd only be 4d6 sonic.
Joseph nods and heads over quickly to the brave dwarf.
