Ting lulls his tongue out of his beak, in a tengue smile and nodding toward Las he answers "Wroight you's are gov'n'r, we's'l 'ead up tha steppy-stairs an poke around's a bit, wroight." ting returns to the stairs and begins carefully ascending them, keeping his eyes peeled for danger.

I am going to assume that he did not make it all the way upstairs the first time but returned to the lower level when called. So I reposted this here, I hope that's ok. I assume the party got up there unimpeded, if not ignore this second half.

GM Chyro wrote:

A set of graceful spiral stairs, constructed of black marble veined with scarlet, wind upward.

The bonfire in the entry hall sends waves of intense heat flowing upwards, along with thick black smoke. Directly above the flame, at the level of the chamber’s ceiling, is a wide capstone concealing the interior of the hall’s large minaret.

The stairs wrap around the capstone and end in a small landing adjacent to an egg-shaped enclosure suspended inside the minaret.
The chamber’s exterior walls are wreathed in smoke flowing in wide ribbons toward the minaret’s peak. A squat stone door leads inside.

You don't know what exactly, but something looks slightly off about the door, as you stand within proper sight to see it.

ting moves carefully about the minaret looking at the egg-shaped enclosure suspended inside, "You's don't bloody wells see 'at everyday do ya's." He then carefully inspects the door for locks, traps or any other curiosities.

take 20(30) on perception looking for locks or traps, if it is locked he will take 20 (39) unlocking it, if it is trapped he will "disable device" the trap.

disable device: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (18) + 21 = 39

Save roll time....

You all ascend the stairs towards the scene above. as i assume Joseph's not eager to remain alone in a possibly spooked room?

As Ting Tang takes out his tools to work on the door....the thing swings open by itself.

Tricky stuff:

1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35
Ouch....none manage that check.

<Click>

An explosion of fire flies out, hitting all at the top of the stairs.
Fire dmg: 6d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 3, 6, 1) = 16
----------------------
Brallenera: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Joseph: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Las Lajas: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Ting Tang: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Of all, it Brallenera who avoids most of the damage, mostly because she's shielded behind the bigger folk.

Within the room it is dark and bare of any furnishings, although the walls are decorated with a large mural of the Qadiran desert and a second large mural that’s of a battle tapestry.

Likely it depicts of the followers against the crusaders.

Ting Tang, disable device is one skill take 20 is not applicable to, when facing a trap. Locks are open game, traps not so much....as those involve risk for failure.

I think you can take 10 for lockpicking, but I know you can't do take 20 for locks or traps because taking 20 means you're doing every number on the dice. E.g. 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on and obviously if you fail on a trap so badly it activates.

Joseph leers at the bird-man for a moment.
"I don't believe you disarmed it..." he states, clearly struggling to hold his composure.

GM Chyro wrote:

right, I think I am still trying to describe too much at one time. Ting can take 10/20 for locks as long as there is no distraction, but for traps will have to roll no matter what. I said:

ting wrote:

take 20(30) on perception looking for locks or traps, if it is locked he will take 20 (39) unlocking it, if it is trapped he will "disable device" the trap.

disable device: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (18) + 21 = 39

so he was looking for something and has a 30 on perception: if he found a "lock" he took 20 (30) to disable the lock: if he found a trap he made a "disable device" roll of 18 adding his 21 for disabling traps so his total was 39.

So when you rolled "tricky stuff" of 35 I assumed that was the number to "perceive" the trap, which a 30 would have failed, If it was the number to "disable" the trap, then tings "rolled" of 39 would have disabled it.

but I think we all agree, take 10/20 on perception or locks (f not being distracted) but always roll on traps. If it messes things up for saying what he will do if he finds something I will stop and wait to see what he finds. (I hope that makes sense.)

reflex save: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 9 + 1 = 11

Ting, smoke coming from his singed feathers, turns to Brallenera shrugging his shoulders. "I ain't sure's, Missy. I thoughts I had it, wroight" Placing his 'Ioun torch' spinning around his straw hat (to combat the darkness of the room) he then toddles inside the room and carefully looks around.

he will take 20 (30) on perception inspecting the room.

Nah, i can't roll a stealth check for a trap, now can i? :)
It's the spookiness playing here.

Liberty's Edge

Ok, it's official, this place is spookier than I thought. So, new plan! Las can be Fred, Brallenera can be Velma and Joseph can be Daphne or "Shaggy": (or maybe both depending on which personality is in control at the time), but ting gets to be Scooby Doo, Just sayin'

fort: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 6 - 4 = 4 wow a one for reflex and a two for fortitude, well at least he was hitting in combat...

Liberty's Edge

After looking under the tapestry seeing the pretty picture, ting moves to the nearest doors, telling his fellow pathfinders "Well's I's'l check out tha doors an' 'en we's'l decide where's ta go, wroight" So ting carefully inspects the double doors on the north east corner and then he moves to the doors on the south east corner and inspects them.

"Let's put out this bonfire. Perhaps we can use one of the tapestries to smother it.

Is there any pictorial information on the tapestries?

Loot sheet No plunder, no pay Battle map--Misc info slides

The tapestries have pictures of fights, between the cult and the crusaders, with the winning side the cultists.

Tricky stuff:

1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25
Las Lajas: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Ting Tang inspects both sets of doors, and finds no traps on them.
They are fine craftsmanship, however.

The small stone earlier bounces across the floor towards Ting Tang.

Which doors will you take?
Likewise, can i get perception rolls for the first room you want to enter?
Since stuff is going on, these rooms won't be safe to take 10/20.

Liberty's Edge

were the doors unlocked?

Ting looks nervously at the small stone bouncing towards him, leaving the doors he returns to the pathfinders, pointing back to the stone; ” ’is place is givin me’s tha 'eebee-geebees, ‘at's fer bloody well sure."

ting scratches his head and asks the team as he head toward the north eastern doors. "Do we's want's ta mess wit tha fire er can we's just 'ead through tha doors an keep lookin' fer shinies, wroight."

It seems that Las wants to put out the fire, ting wants out of this room. If anyone tells him they are ready to leave he will open the north-eastern door, if it is locked he will disable device taking 20 (39); then he will quickly look inside. If no one tells him to go he will wait nervously by the north-eastern doors watching them attempt to put out the fire. Once someone from the team tells him they are ready to leave he will then open the north-eastern door, if it is locked he will disable device taking 20 (39) then he will quickly look inside.

Was thinking more about separating the logs or using dirt from outside to smother it.

Loot sheet No plunder, no pay Battle map--Misc info slides

The edge of the bonfire is encircled, separating the logs would be possible if lifting, but pretty painful if unprotected.
It would involve strength checks and fire dmg.
If you're going with dirt, it will take some time, unless you've got a container for a haul big enough to quickly smother the fire? :)

Ting Tang notices nothing unusual, as he opens the doors and peers inside.

The room is lit by 2 torches, and the walls of this room are lined with weapons: crossed halberds, spears, and longswords, all decorated with flame motifs.
Two shields with portraits of Moloch towering over the Citadel of Flame sit near the ceiling.

A plain obsidian bench sits on the floor, with a skeleton splayed across it.
The skeleton’s armor is bedecked in stylized flames, and its scimitar’s hilt is shaped like an idol of Moloch.

DC 10 Craft weapons/armor / Perception 20:

The nothing unusual changes, however, as he sets foot inside.
