It's silly something without legs can be tripped, but there's no trip immunity in their stats. :)
The whip somehow puts the living flame off balance, and it drops onto the ground.

Being aflame is proving a nuisance for Brallenera, as the flames caused her to narrow her eyes against the heat, and her axe lands in the sand.

No organs exist in a fire elemental ;)
With a swift attack, Ting Tang defeats the second elemental, which dissipates in a bright FWOOSH.
---------Combat over------------
With now a proper pause to look at the arch at the east end of the canyon, you notice it has a multitude of faint runes carved on its front.
Several of these glyphs were carved recently.
Most are prayers to Moloch, begging for the grace of immolation.
A few of the more ancient glyphs are written in Kelish and have been partially rubbed out recently.
Several sand scorched remains of crusaders lay upon the grounds, their ancient bones a testament to a mission that never bore fruit.
Beyond the arch, the red stone hoodoos open up to a massive citadel. The stronghold appears to have two parts: the nearest is a squat, square fortress covered in decaying plaster and topped by an enormous minaret from which a thin plume of smoke escapes.
The plaster walls are richly decorated with intricate geometric carvings of dancing flames, and smaller minarets rise from the corners. At the east end of that building, the valley floor drops suddenly and a windowless second structure perches on a plateau beyond, rising gracefully from the void in a tangle of minarets and spires.
Even though centuries of sand have scoured away most of the gold leaf
that once decorated the structure, the sunlight reflecting off the deep red stone of the citadel makes the entire structure glow like a massive bonfire.
A delicate, red, enclosed bridge links the first fortress with the second one beyond. A pair of massive brass doors covered in a flowing decorative script blocks access to the near fortress.
-------------------------------------
The brass doors are propped against the entryway and must be moved manually (DC 20 Strength check)

Ting watches the fire-man dissipate with a FWOOSH shaking his head, ”You’s don’t see’s ‘at every day’s wroight.” turning to Brallenera, noticing the fire damage, he asks ”Is you’s OK? Er is ya gonna need’s some fixen up?” He then looks to Joseph and Las hopefully.
Ting then inspects the ground and the doors, nodding his head as Las shares what he knows, then touching the door he adds, as if to himself, ”Shame about ‘at ‘air shiny gold leaf, wroight.”
ting would take 20 (30) inspecting the door, if he found a lock he would take 20(39) to disable it. I am assuming that since you gave us a strength check that these do not apply, if they do please use the strength roll for any traps.
Eventually ting puts his shoulder to the door and tries to push it open. crap, just realized that I forgot to buy ting a crowbar.

Rest coming later, as i'd be late for work otherwise. :)
GM Chyro |
The entry hall is clearly meant to impress visitors.
Many rows of stout pillars, carved to resemble writhing flames, surround the center of the room where a spiral staircase, devoid of rails or walls, leads up to the minaret above.
A large bonfire burns in the middle of the staircase, casting normal illumination throughout the room.
The walls are covered with written prayers carved in gold filigree.
The writings preach surrender to the purifying flame.
A carving of an efreeti face hangs above on the other side of the room.
There are quickened footsteps coming from up the stairs, as you enter.
Ting Tang |
as the doors swing open, ting, sword drawn, steps into the large hall, quickly looking and listening around.
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Momentarily distracted by the gold filigree, ting then nods to the staircase and asks "Does you's blokes want's ta foller tha footy-steps up tha stairs er does you's want's ta eyeballs down 'ear foist?"
Las Lajas |
"A bonfire? Was someone expecting us?"
Las' voice trails off as he invokes his jade wayfinder and begins to study the gold writing.
Linguistics: 1d20 + 9 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 9 + (3) = 15
Las hears the footsteps as well and draws his whip, moving himself to the back of the room.
Ting Tang |
Ting nods his head at Las and Brallenera, heading toward the stairs, "You's blokes can keeps readin' if'n you's want's too, I's'l poke me beak upstairs an see wats wat, wroight"
So Ting, bastard sword in claw, proceeds up the stairs carefully, keeping a keen eye out, to take a peak at what is on the second floor.
ting will take 10 (20) on stealth and take 20 (30) on perception going up the stairs and peaking at the second floor.
GM Chyro |
Tricky stuff: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30
Yeah...nobody can beat the check....but i don't mind :)
With Ting Tang being busy this will factor in all of this, to cautiously explore the stairs and the second floor, the other three see something else.
Did the tapestry over at the wall move just now?
This place is either still occupied....or haunted? :/
A set of graceful spiral stairs, constructed of black marble veined with scarlet, wind upward.
The bonfire in the entry hall sends waves of intense heat flowing upwards, along with thick black smoke. Directly above the flame, at the level of the chamber’s ceiling, is a wide capstone concealing the interior of the hall’s large minaret.
The stairs wrap around the capstone and end in a small landing adjacent to an egg-shaped enclosure suspended inside the minaret.
The chamber’s exterior walls are wreathed in smoke flowing in wide ribbons toward the minaret’s peak. A squat stone door leads inside.
You don't know what exactly, but something looks slightly off about the door, as you stand within proper sight to see it.
Las Lajas |
Could you be more specific about which wall and how big the tapestry is?
Las focuses on the tapestry,
"I"ve read chronicles of creatures that can appear to be inanimate objects..."
Las invokes his wayfinder once again,
Knowledge Arcana (Take 10): 10 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ 10 + 11 + (6) = 27 Trying to identify tapestry as a construct or an aberration

It's a tapestry at the southern wall.
Las Lajas doesn't get the impression the tapestry is a creature, though animated chairs, tables or mimics pass through his mind.

"If there's someone here, I suggest you show your self."

Everything remains silent.....
Las Lajas |
Las moves away from the stone.
"Ting, you may want to come down here."
Ting Tang |
Ting stops his exploration of the stairs and looking at Las answers "Abso-floggin'-lutly gov'n'r, I's'l be wroight down, wroight" sword in hand, he begins to toddle down the steps back to where his fellow pathfinders are, keeping a keen eye out for anything odd.

GM Chyro |
A couple, nothing too fancy.
Ting Tang doesn't see any tapestries moving as he comes down.

Las Lajas: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Another little stone from a damaged wall, comes bouncing towards Las Lajas' feet from another direction.
Ting Tang |
As ting gets to the bottom, remaining by the stairs, looking first over his left shoulder, pivoting his head to almost 360 degrees, to look over his right. Then cocking his head sideways he returns his gaze to Las shrugging his shoulders. "I's bloody well down 'ear, so's what did'ja see's?"

"If it truly is something invisible and it hasn't attacked, it could be trying to send us a message or scare us off. We should put our backs together."
Invoking, his wayfinder, Las tries to recall what he knows about haunts
K. Religion (Take 10): 10 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ 10 + 8 + (2) = 20
Ting Tang |
Ting shrugs his shoulders and approach's Las. Facing away from Las, making sure his tail feathers don't brush up against anyone, leaving plenty of room for Brallenera and Joseph, he stands sword in talon looking around carefully. "Well's 'is'l keeps us from gettin' bush-whacked all wroight, but how's do we's go about findin' any sparly's 'is a way's?"
can't do any worse than before. perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
GM Chyro |
Haunts are (usually) invisible restless spirits, tied to a location or object for some reason or another. Some could even be bound to a creature or person, to protect or torment in some cases.
Some linger from great injustice, others could manifest from lingering desires. Strong emotions or curses are the most common element among haunts.
The haunts' capabilities are different on a case by case basis.
This can vary from telekinesis to swings in temperature, or even affecting the minds of those daring enough to enter the haunt's domain.
Las Lajas |
Las shares what he knows.
"Well, I'm a bit stumped...What did you see upstairs, Ting?"
Las tries to get sense of how damaged the walls are using his wayfinder.
Knowledge Engineering (T10): 10 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ 10 + 8 + (6) = 24
Las then tries to determine if there are any spell effects in place.
K Arcana: 1d20 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 11 + (5) = 17
GM Chyro |
The walls show only the slightest signs of wear, but not too much an one would have expected.
No spells Las Lajas knows of, would do this to the walls, at least not without more considerable damage.
Las Lajas |
"I suppose someone could try and pull the tapestry down? Or better yet, someone fire an arrow at the tapestry."
Las will poke at the rock that came from the wall with his shortsword.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Las Lajas |
I'm wondering how many perception you guys are going to roll on the same room. :)
** spoiler omitted **
How many more checks do we have left?
GM Chyro |
Was that a serious question? :D
I usually only see perception checks once per room, Ting's been rolling 4 times.
----------------
Joke aside, you've not found anything, but there's rooms left in this place and the stuff upstairs to explore.
Ting Tang |
ting adjusts his goggles and shakes his head; pointing toward the stairs and then the two doorways. "Oh, I's been lookin' abouts 'is room fer a whiles now, an all I's seen is 'at 'air bloody rock, an it ain't shiney, wroight. So's does you's blokes want's ta go upstairs er through one of 'em 'air doors?"
Las Lajas |
Las raises an eyebrow at Ting,
"I heard something about a bloody rock and upstairs. So between the two, I vote we go upstairs."
Las follows Ting and Barbarella upstairs.
