Umberto takes charge and authoritatively chases the feckless drunks away from their small caravan. Grumbling, but not wishing to aggravate the warpriest, the drunks wander off to find their next watering hole.

The party continues on their way to the designated location. Once again, they come upon a barrier to their egress.

A wagon loaded with over a dozen chicken cages has toppled onto its side ahead, and a farmer and a local vendor are arguing loudly over whose fault it was rather than clearing the alley.

Before he can sound the alarm, he feels a shimmering unnatural haze assault his mind.

The woman's eyes go wild as she is suddenly surrounded. Looking back and forth, she narrowly avoids Umberto's mace. In desperation, she begins the working of a spell, keeping the pathfidners at bay as she does. The presence of the agents distracts her concentration and the magical energies fade without taking effect.

The other woman can be seen hiding around the corner, she darts around the corner, straight for Newmark. The woman touches the dwarf on the head and he begins to laugh uncontrollably. Newmark can take a shot at the woman with his readied action. Obviously if he drops her, she is unable to make her touch attack. Otherwise, Newmark is under a laughing compulsion for one round. Edit: Umberto, I am not sure you can make both a melee attack and attempt to perform a dirty trick at the same time. I believe a dirty trick itself is a standard action. Dirty Fighting forgoes the AOO. I have not encountered someone using a dirty trick before, so if I am mistaken, please let me know. Otherwise, pick either the melee attack or the dirty trick (blinding). The northern woman's action will be relatively the same either way. Also, you may elect to sue the dirty trick as your AOO, in which case I will rule she is blinded for the round as Umberto hits her with some ale as she flees.

Just want to make sure I clearly articulate what happened withe Lumo and myself. I struck twice on my turn with Two Weapon Fighting. The first strike was a Dirty Trick to blind at 18 which probably landed, blinding the woman.

relevant feat text: You can wield a tankard (or mug) as a weapon, treating it in all ways as a light mace appropriate for your size. If you engage in two-weapon fighting with a rapier or light weapon in one hand and a tankard in the other, you can drink a potion or other liquid from the tankard or attempt to toss liquid from the tankard as a dirty trickcombat maneuver (such as to blind a foe) in place of attacking with it. You do not provoke attacks of opportunity for attempting a dirty trick maneuver with a tankard.

My second strike was my mace in the off hand. I should have applied a penalty and got a net 9 to-hit. Perhaps missing although she is now deprived of DEX to AC and has an additional -2 to AC.

Lumo has a 12 to hit but I'm not sure you applied the Blinded penalty to the woman.

Just wanted to be clear.

Umberto, sorry I did not see that you made two attacks. I think my problem is I am used to seeing attacks and damage rolls stacked as opposed to side by side so I am speed reading your dice expressions and just looking to the end number, so I will be on the look out for that from now on. Resolving this updated attack, Umberto does manage the dirty trick but misses with the mace despite blinded condition. Lumo also still misses attack. Northern woman is able to clear blinded condition and moves as previously posted. This should resolve the round and I will now move on to finish round 3.

Newmark attempts to wrangle the assailant but she is able to dodge his clumsy attack.

Brax attempts to hammer the woman, but his attack flies wide. I do not believe Brax currently flanks the southern woman unless he repositions. Either way the attack still misses.

Umberto gives the woman a good clock with his mace as she speeds away from him, dazing her a moment before she is able to flee their area. The warpriest gives chase, right on her heels.

Reidog attempts to trip the woman. She is able to strike at him as he makes the attempt but her hand misses the dwarf's cheek. His trip lands home, sending the woman to the ground.

Lumo joins Umberto's chase of the northern woman.

The northern woman, holding her shoulder in pain from Umberto's earlier strike, grits her teeth as she sees two agents on her heels. She takes a cautious step back from Umberto and waves her hands in very precise gestures, speaking strange arcane words as she does so. She snaps her hands apart and disappears from view!

On her back and surrounded by foes, the southern woman looks about frantically. Desperate, she attempts to summon arcane magics to aid her. Doing her best to hold the agents at bay, she attempts to work a spell but she is unable to execute the required precise gesture and her magical energies fizzle about her, ineffective.

Sorry lost track of which one got the keg...the one on the ground or the one fleeing?either way Newmark will try to remember what he saw and try to recall what happened to the keg Newmark spends the round picking up his crossbow and starting to re-load it (it will be loaded the middle of my next round). Newmark is obviously embarrassed he didn't manage to grapple the woman with the keg..he mutters a reply when Reidog ask;

Does he hit something?

Acrobatics: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1 Wow, if she is there, he definitely bounced off and took an AoO.

If she's there, that's an Acrobatics to get through her square. If she's around but not there, it's an Acrobatics to avoid AoO. If she's not around... well this turn doesn't matter anyway!

The northern woman did take a move action to clear the condition then a standard to move which would have put her last appearance a bit closer, I have adjusted position on the map.

Newmark recalls his extensive arcane schooling to attempt to recognize the actions of the southern woman. Though distracted, the skillful wizard is able to determine the spell.

Newmark:

Shrink Object

Reidog seizes the opportunity and jumps on the prone opponent. The prone woman attempts to hold off the dwarf. She is able to touch the dwarfs face, which sends him into a fit of laugher. The dwarf rolls off the woman onto his back and holds his ale full belly as he chortles on the ground.

Lumo tries to strike at the disappeared northern woman, but he is unable to land a blow, his strike finding nothin but air.

Umberto up, then on to round 3.

If whatever that effect is happens to be magical (not sure how it could be without provoking) she will need to defeat my SR 7

Seriously... it doesn't provoke and doesn't provide a save?? What the heck type of ability is that. If it bypasses SR as well, and only requires a touch attack... Well, I don't know what to say about that

Nat 20 is the only way she could have touched me too... LOL

touch attacks often don’t need saves and since her hand is considered a weapon when it holds a charge she wouldn’t provoke either. You having SR isn’t a normal thing Reidog so probably an ok oversight. Lastly, is your touch AC really 16? Because she’s only at a -4 to attack when prone, why would she need a 20? Unless your touch AC was 16 or higher? ( this of coarse assumes her BAB is 0 and she has no STR. Bonus to attack). I think maybe the only thing overlooked here was your SR and like I said that’s a rare thing to have, especially at this level.

on the other hand if this is a spell- like ability, how did she summon another so quickly? She cast shrink item last round and used a “ held charge” on Newmark the round before. Does she have quicken spell like ability? She’d need to wait till her turn to cast the spell ( or spell like ability). Furthermore, she be subject to any grapple or threatened penalties while using the ability. I assume this is a wizard school ability or a sorcerer bloodline ability? Yeah those are spell- like abilities she shouldn’t have had time to cast another now that I think about it. Also if you ruled that Reidog’s grapple automatically ‘let’s the charge in the sorceress hand hit the Dwarf because the Dwarf initiated contact... well that’s not supported by RAW either ( it would be to unbalanced, no one could ever grapple a magus or they’d take a shocking grasp every time!) Anyway , my 2 cents for what it’s worth.

I figured out what the ability is. They fey-blooded sorceror power, which apparently doesn't actually require casting, just an attack, and the attack during the AoO provoked by my grapple is apparently enough. Though... does she technically threaten with an empty hand that happens to be able to touch someone and make them laugh? Regardless, I am fine with the ruling.

Never seen it before. I had forgotten that it was a touch attack in my flippant comment. No, my touch is only 12 without my shield out, so yes, she would have hit me with a much lower roll.

Was simply venting, not complaining.

Anyways SR still applies, I think (but is unlikely to matter)

apologies for crowding the game-play thread btw. Reidog and I are GM and player in a regular game. We have 6 very well versed Pathfinder players in that game so we sometimes have fun vetting the rules on our board because we find it constructive and even fun sometimes. Having said that, you won’t find a group of more dedicated roll-players, willing to hand wave rules for the sake of story. A truelly remarkable ensemble! Anyway, please don’t pay attention to our musings, we’re constantly challenging each other in our other game in order to become better players and GMs but we all love the game and respect the game and GMs directives. So thx in advance for suffering through our little dialogue , I’ve really enjoyed your run of this scenario so far... hip hip hooray! For the GM!

Guys, sorry about the confusion. As you guys probably know, I am only a one star GM, so my apologies to you vets our there. I am certainly doing my best to make sure the rules are followed and combat is run as close to RAW as possible. Just so you know, I run the combats much like writing fiction. I place myself in the position of the character and do what I think they would do. As for the touch attack, yeah, its crazy that there is no save, but it is what it is. Reidog, I was unaware of your SR, but I do not think SR would apply as the laughing compulsion is not a spell. In any event, thank you for rolling with everything. I think it is making the run smooth and enjoyable. That being said, on to the show.

Umberto swings at an empty space, mace finding air as well.

Umberto and Lumo can hear footsteps leading away from them, but their foe remains unseesn

The southern woman rolls away from the laughing Reidog and reaches out to touch Newmark on an exposed shin. She is able to find an exposed spot of skin and once again sends Newmark into a fit of laughter. The woman smirks and stands up, getting to her feet.
