In the days before the Twin Cataclysms, the Blessedstone clan of dwarves lived in a great stronghold in the mountains now known as The Hellfurnaces. They were a respected clan, making some of the best weapons and armor available in Oerth at that time.
When the cataclysms struck, and the volcanoes started to erupt, the clan was forced to flee into the tunnels connecting the stronghold to the Underdark. Most of the clan's wealth and nearly half of its people were lost in the flight or to the various horrors of the deep tunnels.
Several times, the clan attempted to resettle, each time eventually forced to abandon the settlement either by swarms of refugees, bands of raiding orc mercenaries, or other misfortunes.
Eventually, they found a place in the Yatil Mountains in present day Perrenland. The stronghold was unattractive, but defensible making it a perfect place to kepp the clan safe while they attempted to reassert themselves.
Many years later, the clan is once again gaining some fame and respect. Mining produces much of value and raw materials for the smiths.
Reidog, and his family line, have always been defenders of the stronghold. His father Dedmun trained Reidog and his brothers Brulgumin and Nomroir in the arts of axe and shield as soon as they were strong enough to pick up a wooden practice blade, and each was entered into the army in short order.
Relative safety and growing wealth has led to a life of some boredom and Reidog has begun to dream of glory. Named after one of the greatest warriors of Blessedstone lore, Reidog the Red, he has often dreamed of himself accomplishing great deeds. Setting his pragmatism aside, he decided to set out in an attempt to learn more of where his ancestors came from. He now dreams of one day finding what remains of the ancient Blessedstone tunnels and the wealth that must remain there still.
