Gorkhan Trask |

Probably going to be offline until Tuesday as I'll be away for the long weekend. Gorkhan will continue his spring attack/hide behind a pillar routine. If he's forced to wait around for some reason, he'll regain his psionic focus (even though he still has one with his psicrystal). Might do that anyhow after another round or so, and attack every other round using the assassin's strike for more damage.

Tenro |

posting this in all 28 of my games (although some of them are dead, i am pretty sure... and others are quite slow so my absence will not be missed overmuch):
There are two hurricanes heading for Hawaii, where I live. One is supposed to land on Friday after being downgraded to a tropical depression, the other is supposed to land Sunday with experts unsure as to how much it'll be downgraded after colliding with the mountains.
I'm sure everything will be fine, so no need to worry. People are freaking out for some reason, but I remain in a state of relative readiness.
I anticipate a loss of internet, at a minimum (they can barely keep it together under optimal conditions). Likely loss of power as well. A time without electricity could last anywhere from four days to four months (with some time around one to two weeks being more realistic).
I'll be on between now and then, but if i just disappear, check the news, hahaha.

Grit |

Indeed. Best of luck to you. And keep us posted.
Here in Alabama a few years back we had an April day to remember. Over 300 tornados touched down across the state. Some did very little damage, Other destroyed a lot of property. A few killed. I think we lost about 60 people. 17 or these were on the street my mother's oldest sister lives on. In fact everything north of her house for a half mile was destroy.
but I digress. Even though the tornadoes did not strike my town directly they destroyed the trunk lines from TVA that brought power to northwest Alabama. We were without power for a full week. It was a long week.
I am sure none of this stuff is for sale now but I recommend getting a crank charger for you cell phone (or a solar one, or both). I resorted to running my car to charge my cell phone. lol. Not very efficient. I was lucky that I had a full tank of gas. Everything was closed for an entire week. Luckily I had plenty of canned food. I have more now.

DM Under a Dark Sun |

Take care, Tenro!
Also, I'm bringing some of the ooc discussion about loot in here.
Regarding the Seeker's blade: You have to have a hand on the sword to benefit from its abilities, but it can remain sheathed. You can't use Quick Draw to draw something other than the sword, however. Note that, per the house rules, a bastard sword is a martial weapon that does 1d8 when wielded one-handed, 1d10 when used two-handed. As a steel weapon, the Seeker's blade does 1d10/2d6.
Regarding the iron fists of El: They will function in wildshape, but the bonus damage applies only to the hands (or paws, talons, etc.) on which the gauntlets were worn. So you'd get it on up to two claw attacks, but not a bite or tail slap. (Same idea as the deliquescent gloves from Ultimate Equipment.)
Regarding the amulet of shadows: Unnamed bonus to speed, racial bonus to Stealth. Slight revision for clarity: Fort saves required if active more than 1 minute (10 rounds) per hour, whether consecutively or not. If you become a shadow (which are not technically undead on Athas) you become an NPC. Sanet was just wearing the amulet, and that summoned shadow wasn't very nice to him ...
Heavy hide armor is on the equipment list linked on the Campaign tab. It is medium armor, base +6 armor bonus, +1 max Dex, -5 ACP.
As for the Seeker's reliquary, Nnn will need to do some meditating with it before he can assess the damage. But it stands to reason it could be bonded with like the others. And yes, the reliquary and the sword reference the same Seeker. The sword is the broken blade you took from the Seeker's tomb in the Maw, mended and had re-enchanted by the earth shaman that led the slave-tribe nearby. Using the weaponsmith Grik as a middleman, you sold it to Sanet, who was able to restore some more of its previous enchantments.

Grit |

Grit would be interested in bonding with a reliquary IF it matched him.
The Iron Fists of El are nice, and it makes good sense to only work on the fore-claws of an animal. Even so, Grit would get twice the use from them than anyone else.
The breastplate is better than the heavy hide. It is +3 max Dex and -3 ACP. The only thing I can think to do with this, other than sell it, is to have it enchanted with the Wild enchant. This is a +3 equivalent enchant that would cost 15000 IF we could find someone to cast it. I'd rather have that enchant on the breastplate, but it may be that it will take a long time to get done. So Grit could have it done to this set, or wear this set of armor while the enchant is done to the other. Likely not worth keeping really.

Gorkhan Trask |

I hadn't realized the bastard sword was martial. Cool. We need to sell it again and kill off the new owner so it can be further enchanted ;)
I also noticed we have the Seeker's Belt. Probably also related to the same Seeker. I'm now curious if there's an interaction between these three items.

Gorkhan Trask |

It also occurs to me that the Seeker reliquary, assuming it is intact, will likely be offering bonuses to Dex and Int (considering the Warden is Con and Wis while Champion is Str and Cha).

Raun |

So seems like the bastard sword is either for Raun or to sell again? How would the bastard sword work for her as far as one-hand, two hand etc? It sounds like an upgrade to the earthbreaker, but only if she can wield it two-handed, otherwise it's a very expensive backup weapon :p She'll try it out regardless to get a feel for it, and see if there's any sort of resonance with the other seeker items or something :) (@Gorkhan, Raun's helm of contemplation was also taken from the Seeker's tomb)
I can't help but want the amulet, it just seems incredibly funny to me to have a half giant that can hide in plain sight :p It would give her a +7 stealth, and provide incentive to put some ranks in it (not that she has many, sadly. Really would like some more skill ranks :( This is why I don't normally like playing low intelligence characters. Hmm, maybe I could get a +2 Int headband with ranks in Stealth...). It would also mean her bone warrior's fetish (+1 natural armor, +1 saves, +2 Perception) would be up for grabs. I understand if the group decides this would be better for Gorkhan :p
The cloak would also be handy for Raun. Sounds like gloves are going to Grit which is fine with me.

Raun |

Oh, and could I get an idea of what feats our recent opponents have had that Raun might find useful? Thanks :)

Raun |

I reckon Gorkhan's probably going to get the amulet :p

DM Under a Dark Sun |

None of the items are necessarily meant for anyone specifically. The sword, for example, could be used by either Raun or Gorkhan. It doesn't have any special synergy with the belt, but may interact with the Seeker's reliquary... It's probably a downgrade for Raun compared to her hammer unless she decides to use it with a shield.
If anyone is feeling like they are falling behind others loot-wise, don't worry too much. I'm going to be rebalancing equipment a bit when this story arc is over (relatively soon). In the meantime, feel free to divvy things up based on flavor or based on wha you really want. We will get everything evened out soon.

Raun |

So she couldn't wield the sword two-handed then? Makes sense I suppose, just wasn't quite sure with it being a 'hand and a half' sword whether that would let her do it despite the size difference :) Didn't realize Gorkhan got Martial Weapons (what with not being familiar with psionic classes), so if he can use it then he should probably take it :) That does lean me more towards wanting the Amulet (or at least the cloak) though :p
Good to know you'll be looking at that, since I really have no idea what most of these items are worth since they've got like... 2 to 3 different effects each (more for the amulet. That thing is crazy)
If Raun does get the amulet I'll want to get an int headband to go with it to give her Stealth ranks. That would boost her up to a +13 Stealth, which would be pretty damn good for a half giant :p So much fun too, all fear the kinda-invisible barbarian!

Raun |

mmm but it's +2, and has those other funky abilities...

Grit |

Average damage between 2d6 and 2d8 is only 2 points. The +2 makes up for one of those. and with +2 you will hit more often.
On the other hand we can sell it and use the money to either enchant your weapon to + or buy you a new weapon...

Raun |

Well, what about Gorkhan, does he want it?

Gorkhan Trask |

I actually am thinking on giving the amulet a pass. Limited uses, some of the same abilities I get elsewhere, dangerous if over used and seems to attract the ire of shadows. I'm mildly interested in the cape but only for the ac rather than the extra abilities. I'd really like to see if/what the interaction between the sword and the reliquary may be. The sword interests me for the extra damage over my longsword (the mini-haste is less useful since we're getting hasted on a regular basis), although I'd miss the keen property, so I'll have to think on things a bit more.

Raun |

Raun would be better suited to using the amulet over longer periods, what with her +8 fort (needs a 4 for her first roll, and then even after 8 minutes of continuous use (I don't see her doing this unless under some extreme conditions) she'd still have a 50/50 chance of passing :p) Happy to pass on the cloak since I'll want to get the headband to go with the amulet as stated previously.
Woki gets full restoration next level right? Just in case... (drain sucks...)

Grit |

I wanted to give a heads up that I'll be traveling from Wednesday through Sunday (going to Gen Con) and my posting will be limited. I'll still try to check this game at least once a day, but will likely be posting from a phone when I do post.

DM Under a Dark Sun |

Oh, and could I get an idea of what feats our recent opponents have had that Raun might find useful? Thanks :)
Missed this question earlier. Sanet had the following feats that might be useful:
Alertness, Power Attack, Skill Focus (Intimidate), Toughness, Vital Strike, Weapon Focus (bastard sword)I'll have a post up in the gameplay thread tonight - sounds like everyone is ready to head back to the warehouse to talk to Nell?

Däina |

Raging Vitality. Best survivability feat for a barbarian ever.

Raun |

Yeah that is a nice one Daina :) If I don't have that by level 8 then knocking me out will kill me. The fun of Barbarian rage hitpoints :)
Hmm so I think I already have most of those feats. Heh, oh well.
To the warehouse!

DM Under a Dark Sun |

Grit mentioned loot. Here's what you have at this point from the campaign tab and Sanet's dungeon. The Alliance has promised an undefined reward but is too busy to pay up immediately. I'll get some more details up about the Seeker's reliquary when you have time to rest and Nnn can meditate.
Fen's satchel: sheaf of documents written in house code; two glazed ceramic tokens, one of which identified Fen as a merchant of Urik, another marking him as a merchant in Tyr
Bone key to warehouse off Iron Square
(3) potions of invisibility
(2) potions of fly
(2) potions of alter self
potion of expeditious retreat in crystal flask
(3) intact stormcatcher amulets
(20) doses of curative salve (functions as wand of cure light wounds)
(2) potions of cure moderate wounds
Still several question marks here:
scroll of fireball (CL 8) (Daina)
Spellbook with: all 0-level spells; comprehend languages, disguise self, frostbite, magic missile, mount, protection from good, ray of enfeeblement, shield, shocking grasp, unseen servant; bear's endurance, blood transcription, blur, elemental touch, invisibility, scorching ray; arcane sight, dispel magic, hold person, lightning bolt, vampiric touch (Daina)
Seeker’s blade (Gorkhan? Raun?)
shroud of night (??)
amulet of shadows (Raun? ??)
iron fists of El (Grit)
lesser metamagic rod of reach (Woki)
The Seeker's reliquary (Gorkhan? Daina?)
You’ll get less for some of this stuff (especially the weapons and armor) in order to sell/trade it quickly in the Elven Market.
Altogether, it comes out to about 24,000 cp.
169 cp
1,055 sp
11 gp
half a dozen gold, iron and silver rings (2,000 cp total)
+1 chitin breastplate (1,350 cp)
+1 cruel iron morningstar (9,100 cp)
+1 stone bastard sword (2,300 cp)
+1 heavy hide armor (1,200 cp)
masterwork iron longsword (1,800 cp)
masterwork whip (300 cp)
Six iron spears (200 cp each)
Pair of masterwork bone tridents (300 cp each)
A pair of masterwork bone halberds (300 cp each)
bone handfork
obsidian dagger
Enough bladed carapace for a suit of spiked armor or two, plus several weapons

Grit |

Some general comments:
Grit still owes Nnn 300 cp and will pay him from this loot.
Lets divvy up the consumables above in the "Stuff I assume you'll keep" spoiler.
The spell book can be sold once Daina is done copying from it.
I would be opposed to reselling the Seeker's blade until after the big game in 3 days. I think it would draw too much attention.
I will put the iron fists of El on Grit's character sheet, at least for now.

Gorkhan Trask |

My interest in the reliquary would depend on any interaction between it and the sword (in which case, I might want both) or if it happened to have something meaningful to the character concept. Otherwise, although I haven't really been playing it up of late, Gorkhan already has a voice in his head (his psicrystal).
I think both Daina and I were interested in the shroud, but who gets may depend on the reliquary situation.
Although I'm not interested in armor, I'd be curious to what kind can be made from the carapace, if it can be better than the ones the party currently wears.
I wouldn't want to sell the Seeker's blade, but maybe get keen added to it at some point (if Gorkhan is getting it).
Like Grit, Gorkhan will pay off his debt to Nnn with his share. Maybe Nnn should invest in real estate.

Grit |

I had wondered the same thing about the bladed carapace. If medium armor could be made for it that is better than a breastplate then Grit would certainly want to pursue that.

Raun |

Raun also owes Nnn 300cp/3gp which she will repay. He may as well open a bank instead, although then he might charge interest :p
So sounds like Raun is taking the amulet, which is cool, and also means that her bone warrior's fetish (+1 natural armor, +1 saves, +2 Perception) is up for grabs. She'll probably need to find something else to replace that, some good defensive bonuses there... Or could she maybe get it modified to take up a different slot? Maybe the wrist slot, turn it into a bracer?
She could upgrade some of her backup weapons but... eh she doesn't really use most of those anyway, she's just become a bit of a pack rat. In fact while we're trading stuff...
how much would it be to upgrade to some iron arrows? - 20 bone arrows (-1 to hit)
sell - Large bone impaler (-1 to hit, 1d10 damage)
sell/ditch - large bone club (1d8 damage)
sell - (4) large stone javelins (-1 to hit, 1d8 damage)
sell - (2) obsidian spears (-1 to hit, 1d8 damage)
if those spears in the sell spoiler are medium longspears she might want to trade up for two of those (which would become large shortspears). She doesn't really need em, but it couldn't hurt to have some backup ranged stuff. potentially do more damage at close range than her bow too, since that is only +4 str.
sell - spare set of large studded leather armor
As for the potions, Raun already has one for invisibility, but wouldn't mind a fly and a cure moderate, though that last might be better for someone else.

Woki |

Woki would be happy with any trophies of battle but has little use for coin that isn't edible or do something. He's still too fresh from the Forest Ridge to be corrupted by your strange Tyrian ways.

Raun |

Grit |

Grit needs to start magicing up his tigone, Animals do not have many item slots but neck is one of them. If no one else needs that warrior's fetish I'd love to get it for Kitty.

Nnn'tkklik'l |

just lemme know what Nnn gets in the way of total cash.
he can't really use most of the items we have found, other than maybe some potions just in case
he could also use some salve, since he could smear it on himself and redirect the healing to people. it wouldn't be as great as his abilities, but it wouldn't cost him his precious PP.
Nnn would also be interested in some shopping. maybe for real estate :D

Nnn'tkklik'l |

also, given the fact the gates are reinforced from the outside, Nnn is interested in getting some spell/power/item that would effect rapid escape. turning into a bird, gas, ghost, insect, dimension door, dimension slide, jaunt, teleport, passwall, etc. Preferably something that can take some people with him.
inability to cast noticeable spells? he can manifest without displays, but how odd would it be to have a kreen out there just standing around? no blasts from his spear either
i've read the prism pentad, so i have a good idea of what i think theyll be doing. but ill keep silent on the matter, especially since you could easily have changed it more than you have already

Raun |

oooh, nice combo with reliquary and sword.

Gorkhan Trask |

This blue crystal glows with a sapphire light. The crystal functions as a psionic reliquary, housing the consciousness of an ancient warrior known as the Seeker. It can store up to 3 PP as a psionic reservoir. If bonded to its owner's brow chakra (occupying the headband slot) or heart chakra (occupying the chest slot), it grants a +2 enhancement bonus to Dexterity and a +2 enhancement bonus to Intelligence.
By spending 1 PP or expending psionic focus, a bonded user may treat all or a portion part of her normal movement in a round as teleportation - the total distance is unchanged but the character does not actually pass through the intervening space, which must be in sight but may contain matter than normally would block access.
NOTE: The Seeker's psyche currently is damaged, causing the bonded user to suffer a -2 penalty to Will saving throws. This could disappear in time as the Seeker mentally heals. It also could be stabilized in other ways. Bathing the crystal in repeated treatments of id fiend blood, or bonding it to an ioun stone or a psicrystal could work. Other remedies are possible.
As for connections with the Seeker's other possessions: The Seeker's belt was a spoil of war and carries no special significance to the spirit. A bonded user who wields the Seeker's blade can spend 3 PP as a swift action to imbue the sword with the speed of thought. For one minute, the wielder may treat the blade as a finesse weapon with the agile property, applying his or her Dexterity bonus to attack and damage in place of Strength. The damage bonus is not increased if the sword is wielded with two hands.
Ummm... Yeah. Dibs. It actually fits quite thematically with my character, and Gorkhan has a psicrystal, PP to spend (or put in the reservoir), and Agile weapon? Yes please. Do I need to actually get weapon finesse for this to work?
So if Gorkhan gets the reliquary and sword then, despite the enjoyable AC bonuses, I'll forgo any claim on the shroud (which can go to Daina who had seemed interested) and Raun's old necklace.

DM Under a Dark Sun |

@Gorkhan: You'll need Weapon Finesse to take advantage of the agile ability. Luckily, a feat level is coming up ...
Others, I will update the loot list to reflect the current "who gets what" and also post about what types of items might be available on short notice. I'll move the bladed carapace into the keep column - you don't have time to get anything crafted now, but it could be used make spiked breastplates, etc. that would be slightly better than stock.
I've got a busy day and evening ahead, so may not have another post up until late tonight or tomorrow. I know we have a couple of people heading to Gen Con, so I'm not planning on advancing to the arena before Sunday/Monday, so feel free to plan, post stuff you want to buy, etc.

Raun |

Raun will be looking for stuff to make her better at sneaking, she'll probably need someone else to point her in the direction of a headband of int, especially if she starts thinking about it as having another person in her head :p I don't see that being a big deal though. I need to go look up how hide in plain sight works too.
As for preparations, if Woki could prepare some make whole spells to fix the shortsword Raun broke back in the catacombs under the arena that'd be good.
and...
How much would it be to upgrade to some iron arrows? - 20 bone arrows (-1 to hit)
If those spears in the sell spoiler are medium longspears she might want to trade up for two of those (which would become large shortspears). She doesn't really need em, but it couldn't hurt to have some backup ranged stuff. potentially do more damage at close range than her bow too, since that is only +4 str.
There's nothing wrong/no problems with showing off magical items right?

DM Under a Dark Sun |

You don't have time to have custom armor crafted now, but I've moved the bladed carapace into the keep pile so you can do that later.
Fen's satchel: sheaf of documents written in house code; two glazed ceramic tokens, one of which identified Fen as a merchant of Urik, another marking him as a merchant in Tyr
Bone key to warehouse off Iron Square
(3) potions of invisibility
(2) potions of fly
(2) potions of alter self
potion of expeditious retreat in crystal flask
(3) intact stormcatcher amulets
(20) doses of curative salve (functions as wand of cure light wounds)
(2) potions of cure moderate wounds
Enough bladed carapace for a suit of spiked armor or two, plus several weapons
scroll of fireball (CL 8) (Daina)
Spellbook with: all 0-level spells; comprehend languages, disguise self, frostbite, magic missile, mount, protection from good, ray of enfeeblement, shield, shocking grasp, unseen servant; bear's endurance, blood transcription, blur, elemental touch, invisibility, scorching ray; arcane sight, dispel magic, hold person, lightning bolt, vampiric touch (Daina)
Seeker’s blade (Gorkhan)
shroud of night (Daina)
amulet of shadows (Raun)
iron fists of El (Grit)
lesser metamagic rod of reach (Woki)
The Seeker's reliquary (Gorkhan)
169 cp
1,055 sp
11 gp
half a dozen gold, iron and silver rings (2,000 cp total)
+1 chitin breastplate (1,350 cp)
+1 cruel iron morningstar (9,100 cp)
+1 stone bastard sword (2,300 cp)
+1 heavy hide armor (1,200 cp)
masterwork iron longsword (1,800 cp)
masterwork whip (300 cp)
Six iron spears (200 cp each)
Pair of masterwork bone tridents (300 cp each)
A pair of masterwork bone halberds (300 cp each)
bone handfork
obsidian dagger
As for Raun: her bone short sword is repaired without any trouble. She gets rid of all the excess weapons listed in her spoiler above and keeps (2) iron spears (no penalty to hit, 1d8 damage), and buys 20 masterwork iron arrows. (Total cost ~500 cp). She also pays back Nnn (300 cp). Let's say Grit pays her 1,000 cp so he can have the battle fetish for his kitty. Combined with the 4,000 cp everyone gets, that gives Raun enough for a headband of vast intelligence +2 (keyed to Stealth) with 200 cp leftover.
For Grit: After paying back Nnn and paying off Raun, Grit has 2,700 cp and the battle fetish (plus the fists as noted above).
Daina gets 4,000 cp. She, too, could buy a headband of vast intelligence +2 for 4,000 cp. A headband of aerial agility + 2 (4,500 cp) or headband of ponderous recollection +2 (5,100 cp) also would be available if she wants them and can borrow the extra coin from someone.
Woki takes his share in trophies: 2,000 cp worth of rings from the dead dwarf templar, Vackus, as well as a templar's iron longsword (1,800 cp) and an iron spear (200 cp).
Gorkhan gets 2,400 cp after paying his debt to the Bank of Nnn.
Nnn gets 6,200 cp altogether. As for items that might be available, possibilities include a belt of levitation (as boots of levitation), a rope of knots, or an insistent doorknocker (made of bronze, rather than iron).
